Here are my observations: The "PowerOn1.ogg" worked, but played a different sound upon booting—the 2015 Samsung boot up sound, plus my phone converted the .ogg file by itself—and if I try to change it, I'm gonna have a silent boot. Weird, huh? I assume this is a problem with the ROM
Update #1:
I tried the Lollipop boot up sound of the Note 4, and it works. I'm thinking the S8 and beyond boot up sounds will never work on Refined Nougat. Hope there's a way to fix that.

That happened to me too. If i change any ui sound name it wont work, its just silence. I tried to use huawei boot sound but because name is different phone didn't recognize the sound. Maybe Samsung did something with coding where it recognizes certain words Samsung put in. I dunno. Try downloading the s8 sound from different site. Maybe that'll help.
P.S i got those sounds from GraceRom
P.S #2 Okay this is weird. I downloaded the s8 sounds from different threads and none of the poweron.ogg worked. Only Poweroff.ogg worked. Im on marshmallow so its not a nougat bug.

1. I'll clarify something: Remember the "PowerOn1.ogg" that I mentioned? I didn't leave it like that and paste it on the UI folder, but I renamed it to "PowerOn" to replace my current boot sound. The one from GraceROM (AKA what you provided) works, but my phone converts it into a 2015 boot sound, which is bemusing if you ask me.
2. I tried flashing the S8 boot sound on Nemesis Refined (6.0.1), and it works on my mom's unused Note 4. But if I flash it on Refined Nougat, it doesn't. So I I'm still believing that Refined Nougat may have the blame here to why the S8 boot sound won't work.

Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting here so hello to everyone!
I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S5 after having iPhones for years and I haven't stopped using it since. I was looking into boot animations and I saw all the BIOS boot animations but realized that no one had created one for the Galaxy S5 yet. Because of that I made one myself specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S5 meaning that all the files are in the QMG format and not the typical bootanimation.zip style. Attached to this post are two zip archives containing the animation file. Both attachments are the same animation but one runs at 18FPS while the other runs at 22FPS. This way in-case your phone boots slower or faster than mine there will be time to completely finish the animation.
I also have it rendered at all different framerates from 5 to 60 so if you need it somewhere else let me know.
Let me know what you think as I plan on making a more unique animation in the future!
How to Install (Device Must be Rooted):
1.Download bootsamsung.qmg file to device
2. Go to system/media
3. Rename the existing bootsamsung.qmg to bootsamsungOld.qmg or something else (do not delete)
4. Rename bootsamsungloop.qmg to bootsamsungloopOld.qmg or something else (carrier animation, can delete if do not want)
5. Place the bootsamsung.qmg file you downloaded into here
6. Change the permissions of the bootsamsung.qmg file to: Owner: read, write Group: read Others: read
7. Reboot your phone and see if it works!
Since I am a new user I can't put images or a video preview here due to them being external links.
Below in attachments along with the animation files there will also be another zip archive containing a GIF preview and two pictures.
***EDIT***
Also in the attached files you will find bootanimation.zip which is the animation files for phones that dont use the Samsung .QMG file format. Note that it is still at 1080x1920 in terms of resolution and will play at 18FPS until you modify the desc.txt
Thanks, PDrizzly
Can I have one in ".zip" format please? The GS5 ROM I am using (MOAR ROM on Sprint GS5) has custom bootanimation support and uses .zip files for bootanimation!

I am having trouble getting this to work on AllianceRom. The animation stops at the 12th picture and it just freezes there until the boot cycle completes. After applying the boot animation I can look into the zip archive and every png file from number 13 on is 0kb in size.
Just for some more information I have tried applying the boot animation by flashing via Rom Manager, using Rom Toolbox (Boot Animations), and by manually placing the bootanimation.zip in the system\media directory. When I manually place the zip file in (and adjust permissions), the boot screen is just black. Nothing shows up. Every other boot animation I have tried seems to work just fine. This is the only one giving me trouble.
Any advice?
Thank you.

I swear I'm not just trying to be ignorant or beat you up here by saying this, but I just thought it was kind of funny because you basically just asked a question and then answered yourself all in one sentence. Anyway to answer your question (again lol) though, yes you do need to have root in order to do this because without it the directory where the files need to be pasted will be "read only", and you will not the have the access needed in order to change it. Hope it helps [emoji106].

I recently created a nice boot animation for the Honor 8, but I don't have an Honor 8. In fact, I have a Samsung, so I'm unable to test it since the formats are different. I just need someone with an Honor 8(1080x1920 display) who can test this for me and let me know if it plays properly(ie. the timing is right, etc.) before I post it.
To test YOU MUST HAVE ROOT, a custom recovery like TWRP installed & some experience with flashing zips and backing up your device in case you need to restore. Much appreciated. Thank you!

Ok. Does anyone know why you can't change the boot animation on the Honor 8 and Honor 7? It seems that even with root and TWRP it's still preventing this rather simple change. I had someone test my animation on their device and it flashes fine, but it doesn't change the animation for them, even when replacing the bootanimation.zip file with the proper permissions manually. I make animations all the time, so it should work just fine, but what could it be that's not allowing the change? Any ideas? :/
UPDATE: The person testing for me just tried deleting his bootanimation.zip completely and rebooting and it still shows the stock boot animation on boot, so there must be a master copy that it keeps copying from somewhere that's writing over my animation on boot. Any help? Ideas? :/

The boot animation on the Honor 8 is located in the following directories depending on the device:
/version/special_cust/FRD-L04/hw/usa/media
/version/special_cust/FRD-L09/hw/usa/media
/version/special_cust/FRD-L14/hw/usa/media
If you remove the bootanimation.zip located there it seems to default again to /system/media/
So if you're making a twrp script, you may want to try having it remove the bootanimation.zip located in /version/special_cust/FRD-L04/hw/usa/media

I wonder if I can just have it replace the animation in both locations, making a zip for each(L04, L09, L14, etc.) If I could identify which variants have which FRD folder, then maybe I could just list the files as such.

It really isn't that complicated. Huawei ignored using /system/media and instead made their own directory (aka special_cust) which contains bootanimations. Each device has a product name/number (aka FRD-L04, FRD-L14, FRD-L09, etc). The folders in there correspond with the product name/number of each region specific device. So, I have a FRD-L04, so my folder is /version/special_cust/FRD-L04/
My suggestion however was to simply remove the FRD-L## folder inside /special_cust/, then just apply your bootanimation to /system/media. This way it'll work on any device.

So, I have a FRD-L04, so my folder is /version/special_cust/FRD-L04/
My suggestion however was to simply remove the FRD-L## folder inside /special_cust/, then just apply your bootanimation to /system/media. This way it'll work on any device.

The guy who was testing for me actually had an Honor 7, but said he tried replacing my animation with the Huawei folder one and ended up in a bootloop. His folders were a little different though. I think his was in the "etc" folder, but it kind of had me wondering if those folders maybe need to be there. Maybe I just need to replace the one in special_ cust. If I made you one that just replaces the L04 one could you maybe test it for me?

I replaced my bootanimation.zip in special_cust with a Pixel Bootanimation and it worked fine.

Still need someone to test it before I upload it for everyone. I already made the file. I can PM you the link if you don't mind doing it. I just want to make sure that it works and that the animation runs smoothly.
[STOCK]Flash the enable zip in recovery and see if cm13 bootanimation appears or not.
if black screen appears then flash the disable zip in recovery to get back to original state.
To change bootanimations use ROM Toolbox lite etc.
The idea is to replace the working of .zip animations instead of .qmg.
Boot Sound
Users can also add custom audio to their boot animation.
Make a audio of your favourite with mp3 cutter etc that is less than 20 seconds.
Rename that audio to PowerOn with extension ogg.
Replace this in /system/media/audio/ui with permissions rw-r-r i.e., 644. REBOOT
If you want to mute the boot sound totally , simply move the PowerOn.ogg to internal/external storage or simply rename it to any other name.
