Mock Location Issue under Dev options. - Verizon LG V10

Ok yes this is for a common game but I figured I'd challenge some awesome minds and see if there is a way around this.
Basically when selecting an app for mock gps location, instead of showing the selected app it shows "Call management"
So any ideas, and no my v10 is not rooted.
Thanks.

[Q] Please enable a MY Location source in system settings

i have google maps 5.9.0 when trying to use wifi location or network location i get please enable a my location source from system settings. i also updated to maps 6.1.0 and its the same thing. i cleared data and cleared cache, also cleared google services framework nothing works. I know we dont have GPS on this tablet. but it should be able to use course navigation or wifi location. in 2.1 and 2.2 froyo it worked now on gingerbread its not working for me. does anyone have the same issue or no how to resolve without using a location spoofer?
I have found the same problem and I have not found any answers searching here and on other sites. I understand that the Hidden Settings app available here lists all of the settings that can be changed, and enabling My Locations is not one of them. I am wondering if the setting can be changed by editing a file on a rooted NT. Maybe one of the developers or the moderator knows where the file is located and how it should be edited. My guess is that Root Explorer would allow someone to find the setting file and, once you find it, you probably need to change the state from "0" to "1."
Same problem
You still need wifi for the directions function to work. At best in your car the NT acts as a dumb map, aerial or roads.
I have allow mock locations checked in devleopment. i also noticed that in the default prop it says ro.allow.mock.location=0.
i tried to change to 1. it reverts back to 0 upon boot up. i dont know that would help anyway
I'm not sure this is a mock location solution. I am wanting the NT to allow Google Maps to pull an address/location from the IP address like the iPad and iPod do. In Gingerbread (which I think is the base for the NT) it is under Location and Security and is the setting for "Use Wireless Networks" as a source for location information.
To Miniblue, I agree that you need WiFi to pull maps if you are mobile, but this would be nice when traveling and using the NT at any WiFi enabled location to find local information and for running directions. It is also a nice feature to use with the weather apps that can automatically pull local forecasts based on the Location Services.
Location services work with Yandex Maps (Russian). It means, it is app problem.
I also need this to work, I am trying to set up "Square Up" and it needs locations turned on.

I have downloaded Yandex and get a different error message: "Unable to determine location" compared to "Please enable a My Location source in system settings." I am not sure if that means that Yandix is able to access location, but I am not in am area covered by the maps or something else. I will play with some other map apps to see what I get.
In the mean time, does anyone know where the My Locations setting is on the NT? We ought to be able to find it and change it with Root Explorer on a rooted device. I have been looking through the various root folders and have not found it yet.
The nook color can enable Location Services, how is it done on that device and can we do it the same way on the NT?
Until we figure out how to enable the "Use wireless networks" setting, a near-term, very limited workaround is to use the "my fake location" apk, which allows you to manually set a mock location by entering a lat-long or slewing a map.

Yeah, kinda stinks that the NC was able to do this with just the rooted stock rom, and we can't.
Edit: just noticed the OP had the caveat "without using a location spoofer"...sorry I didn't contribute anything useful!

Looked again at Yandex maps - first click at locating button produced the same error you mention. Second click located me instantly.
If you get "We have no data for this area", just click minus botton several times.

using my fake location allows square up to work, now to get the card reader to work....
Tried that approach with the same result. The Market doesn't show My Fake Location as compatible with theNT. I will need to load it on my phone and export the apk for my NT. I'll be back if I find any helpful information.

Here you go:
Thank you, Conundrum768. My Fake Location will be a good work around for now. It even works with Yandex, though I can't read Russian. We will probably need to wait until there is a version of CM9 for the NT to have access to the My Locations setting. The NT is potentially a great tablet once we get the crippled software off of it.
ok this is what ive done so far
make sure you have sqlite and root explorer on your tablet can get it on market.
navigate to data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db/secure make a backup and put it on your sd card just in case(copy the whole folder if you like)
find where it says 61 location_providers_allowed. press on the value side
you can either change it to network, gps
or change gps to network
save
then reboot
now when you go to maps the enable my location in system settings does not pop up now.
press the gps icon on the top right
now youll get waiting for location followed by your location is temporary not available.
this is a little more progress so far. location spoofer now works. we need to dig in more to find out what else can be done
i dont know if we can add or need to add <boolean name="location_wifi" value="true" />
to the com.android.settings_preferences.xml at the bottom.
This is helpful information. I made the change to the settings.db/secure using Root Explorer and added the line to com.android.settings_preferences.xml. I get the same messages: Waiting for Location and Your current location is temporarily unavailable. I have been doing some research on Android location services, but haven't found anything helpful yet.
right now i have mapquest and that works and sees your location.
i also have trying by changing permissions on
com.google.android.maps.jar
com.google.android.maps.xml
com.android.location.provider.jar
com.android.location.provider.xml
No Luck on any
we need somebody who knows the inner workings of Gmaps to find why it doesnt see your location while others do. such as mapquest
I will download MapQuest to my phone and move it to the NT. As an aside, have you done anything to your NT to increase compatibility with the Amazon Market? I assume you were not able to install MapQuest directly from the market. I am wondering if I need to change the Build Properties screen resolution to 160 or make other changes so that these apps will show up.
EDIT: Transferred MapQuest to the NT and it picks up my location from the WiFi. I am wondering what server MapQuest uses to render an geolocation from an IP address. I will look around to see what was added to the settings table. It may be possible to direct Google Maps to a different server. Also tried Waze, but get a FC when the app opens.

[Q] Sygic stops GPS tracking in background after a while, yours too?

Hi,
recently I tried out Sygic which works really nice except for one thing:
when Sygic is running in background after a while (seems randomly) the GPS message disappears (upper message in attached pic), the Sygic message remains (lower message in attached pic).
When I click the Sygic message, the app behaves as if I restarted it (says "initializing" on top right). Luckily, it remembers the old route.
Yet sometimes I don't drive myself and would like to do other stuff and have Sygic tracking in the background.
It works fine with Google maps.Yet not with Sygic. Especially when I launch any other app (even the browser, a video or something), Sygic stops tracking immediately (not always but often) or some time later.
GPS is set to never turn off in Sygic and all settings are set to "optimal".
Could that be the Android OS turning something off for Sygic as it might believe it's no longer used or something?
Sygic is more sophisticated than Google maps and uses more ram. If you start opening other apps after Sygic then they will get higher priority in ram. Sygic doesn't really stop so much as get pushed out of memory until it gets switched to again. Not much you can do about it really.

Ah that explains the issue, already feared something like that.
The only annoying part is that it no longer tells me where to go when that happens.
Does anyone know whether this happens with other apps such as Navigon as well?
Since the newest update (at least I didn't notice it before) Sygic has an option "Run navigation in back..." under Battery management.
Haven't tested it yet but that supposedly sets the oom_adj values low enough for the app not to get killed.
Ah thanks, that is new indeed.
Yet I tried this and eventually the same thing happens sooner or later. :/
Open Sygic.... go to SETTINGS than go to BATTERY MANAGEMENT (i don't know witch is the correct option in english as my SYGIC is in ITALIAN)... the first setting that is show to you is the opportunity to deactivate the GPS signal after a definite time.... change it!
Yeah that option is now replaced, you can only check/uncheck it. I checked it so it keeps running in background but still shuts off after a while when using other apps.
You're right. I have the same problem. This is ridiculous. You are running navigation and expect it to give you the directions at the right moment, but you don't know that in the meantime, while you got a phone call and checked your messages it was turned off silently and no longer working.
Without an option to guarantee it's working and can't be stopped in the background, you're as if you have no navigation at all.
If this can not be fixed it's better not to even install Sygic, cause this takes away a major part of what this app is meant to do. So stupid.
I have tried Igo and it was the same. How serious is that?! To have a navigation, which can stop while you're using it and need it, without warning!
Did anybody find a solution to this?
Not really.
Either simply leave Sygic running in foreground / don't leave it running in background for a while or use a different app.
After I purchased it I also noticed some other annoying issues, e.g. voice says "take exit number 24" instead of how we navigate here "take next exit to A2" (our motorway navvigation signs do not show the exit numbers anyway), forcing me to look at the app way more often when there is an exit leading to 2 different motorways.
Due to such issues as well as this annoying "I die if you leave me running in background" I decided to switch to Navigon. Nicely, this app even tells you which motorway to take AND where it leads to, so I don't even need to look at it.
I haven't run a full test yet. Yet I left a video running in full screen and Navigon kept running in background navigating. Once I know more, I report back (if I don't forget). In any case, I wished I didn't have spent the money for Sygic after all. What do free map updates any good when the app isn't suiting oneself.
P.S.: I did inform Sygic support about the background issue and they requested more information as they didn't experience this issue yet. I provided that but didn't get another reply, the thread was then archived.

I agree with you also for the way Sygic works. It's s not that great. Thanks for sharing about Navigon. Please, test it and post here if the situation with "silent background death" is the same. I would appreciate it if you let me know and will be checking to see how you feel about it when you post your comments.

I have been using Sygic for quite a long time and noticed that on my Galaxy Captivate, after initialization, if you switch to some other app then return to Sygic (either from the app icon, or from the task bar) it always restart.
However on my Galaxy S3 after switch back to Sygic it just continues wherever it left off. I guess that my Captivate had less memory to run Sygic while I have plenty on the S3.
Also in Sygic, go to Settings / Notifications and Sounds / Advanced and turn "Sound always on" would let Sygic to continue to turn-by-turn announcement even if it is not in the foreground, even when the screen is off.
I have plenty of free memory (using HTC one x) and still it's killed. But this is not a problem of sygic. it's a problem of Android. Or may be indrrd sygic didn't make the right settings for the memory registration of this app (if that's something that they could do). As I see the oom values of this app are pretty high usually when I check.
Also about the voice: I have this option checked. But I never had an occasion when it spoke to me when it was killed. I'll check again. May be I didn't notice it...
Thanks for your comment on that. I'm surely going to test this.

You probably you haven't set the option to switch off GPS after a certain amount of time. Go to Settings /Battery management / Switch GPS off after... then move the slider until you see "never".

Thanks for trying to help. This option is set properly to "never" with me.
Hey all,
sorry for the late reply.
Sad news: Navigon dies in background as well. Just like Sygic, it doesn't always happen. But once you start using other apps actively it will eventually kill Sygic and Navigon silently. As someone already pointed out, it's likely an issue due to how Android works.
I had the relevant options ticked to never disable GPS or anything and it made no difference.
So you can use another app but you can't actively use your smartphone, e.g. I can have Poweramp run in foreground and switch tracks without Navigon dying (it also keeps talking to me via voice, even when the screen is turned off). But if you're not the driver and want to do more than just that then you'd need a second device or so.
Cheers,
Landorin
P.S.: at least now I could test both apps and personally, I'll stick with Navigon. Navigation by voice is so well developed that I don't need to look at the app while driving and if I do look at it, track assistant is better developed too (it shows you the motorway signs). With the app "Directory Bind" I was also able to move the whole big app + maps onto the external SD card.
Hopefully, the Sygic devs will listen to the community feedback and catch up in development over time.

Thanks for this elaborate report. It will be useful for many.
And yes, the navigation soft producers must make some conclusions.
If I find a good way to protect an app from being killed, I'll post it here.
You can try Fameelee - Family Locator app and you will never get such problems. 24/7 real time accurate gps location tracking, ability to see location history of your app members for the last 30 days, get notification once your app members reach some specific places (that you match by yourself), sms and call logs tracking and a lot of more. App is free and avaiable on appstore and google play market

Pokémon Go

I bought a Moto E 2nd gen for my nephew to play Pokemon Go. Turns out that it is not officially supported. I have read that some people have had luck with sideloading, but my phone just sits at the loading screen and says "gps signal not found". I've turned location settings to high, ensured that the app is up to date, and is getting proper permissions. Mock locations is off.
Can anyone help me???
try reinstalling the app & make user you have google play games installed as it require g+ login to run the game

If your device isn't getting a GPS signal, try grabbing the app "GPS status toolbox" from the play store. Often just running that (outdoors with clear sky view) will reset stuck GPS for me. It also includes tools to refresh agps data.
If your GPS is working for other apps but not Pokemon, then I don't know.

Get the XDA Labs app (https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-labs/) and install through that (It has the most recent update)
Note: Our moto E does not run the game very well.
For locations: Make sure that the highest setting is actually on, and that the phone can use the cell network to determine location as well (Separate setting) The game works for me (When it is not lagging of course)

Ok, I did ALL of these, and I'm not sure which one worked, but the game is running now. Also Google Play Services updated (thought it already had). So the game is running, but now constantly says "location not found" on the top of the screen. It zeros in on my house, though. I can't thank you guys enough, but is there any way to fix this message?

Okay so this is a work in progress, BUT...
I know how to spoof one's location to fool Pokemon Go. IDK if that is allowed here, so I will go into the less gray part of my theory. Instead of using a gps location spoofing app to fake my location, is there an app that will take my real location, and spoof the rest of the data to satisfy Pokemon Go?

Root the phone, install Xposed then install Xposed Pokemon Go module of choice (Found in XDA labs app) to do a REAL proper spoof since pokemon go can detect if mock locations is on and most xposed modules do not need that to work (since they use root access)

Mock location issue (call management)

Has anyone else tried to set a mock location app on your V10 yet? No matter what app I try or anything I do with the location settings it will not allow me to set a mock location app. Instead it just says "call management". This is very frustrating. I tried the same exact steps on my wife's mto x and it worked perfectly. Has anyone else dealt with this or figured out a fix? Please help and thanks.
Settings > General > About Phone > Software Info > Build Number
Press is about 10x's
It will let you know when you're a "Developer"
Back out to the General Sub-Menu
Find Developer Options and Click Mock Locations.

Yeah I know I am already a developer, it's under the developer options that I'm having the issue. When I try to choose a mock location app it never allows it, instead I get the mysterious "call management" message. Thank you for trying to help though.
I had to uninstall antutu benchmark for mine to work.

Hmm I don't have anything like that installed, but I guess I can use trial and error by systematically removing apps and checking if it works. I'm not sure I really want to do that though
did you manage to solve it? I have a BQ Aquaris M5 and the same problem. Besides having mock location on, some app do not recognise it because after i select one of them, the phone shows the "call management" message

What does "background restriction" actually do?

I searched for this but couldn't find anything. Hopefully it hasn't been answered before.
What doe the "Background restriction" option under "Manage Batter Usage" do for an app? I ask because I have selected this option for Instagram but as it stands, the app has been in "active use" for 4 minutes. It has been in working "while in background" for 16 minutes. It seems to me that if it is restricted, it shouldn't be active in the background at all. Am I just interpreting this incorrectly?
My goal has been to have a version of Instagram that only operates when I have it in the foreground. I have no desire to be notified of anything, nor do I want it to preload things. Is there no way to have an app prohibited from operating in the background? I thought this option would do it.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
If it matters, I have a pixel 3 xl on stock Android 10. The same issue occurred in Android Pie as well. I see this on my wife's Essential Phone too, so I don't think it is device-specific.
