I'm looking for a secondary phone primarily so that I can use it for playing around with custom Android ROMs. This means the phone must be cheap since I'm not super rich and can't spend lots of money on a secondary "toy phone". It also has to be supported by a bunch of ROMS, so that there is something to play with I don't really have an overview of the ROM world and that's why I'm asking for help here.
That's pretty much the only requirements that I have it definitely doesn't have to be a new nor well speced phone. Since the availability of second hand phones where I live obviously will vary I'd like as many suggestions as possible.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into it and keep it in mind. What ROMs are available for it? I can see that Cyanogenmod 9 is available for it. Thats nice!
Ok. So currently I'm mainly considering HTC Legend. There's a ICS rom available for it, and I can get it rather cheap 2nd hand where I live.
Any other suggestions?

Still, they are too expensive. Then I'd rather buy a HTC Desire which is slitly cheaper but still pretty decent with great moding support.

That's a good suggestion! I didn't know about that phone at all. But isn't it a bit underpowered? The resolution is pretty high for a low end phone but the processor is not that powerful? But I've found someone who's selling it second hand for a fair price which is most important. I might buy it.
Thanks to both of you! Any other suggestions?

Well, your only after a phone to mess around with right? so I don't think speed should be your main concern. Its decent, not terribly as slow as you'd think. The resolution is a killer. The screen is very vibrant, especially if you manage to pick up a AMOLED version. My brother has one of these, and he recommends it. Its got decent dev support too!

You're right. And I BOUGHT IT! I got it second hand for what would have been 82$ (converted from my local currency). For a Wildfire S or a Legend I would've had to pay around 120$. They are similarly speced except the Blade has a much better screen that is larger and with significantly higher resolution plus I got the AMOLED version For a Desire or a Nexus One i would have had to pay around 160$.
So all in all I think I made a very good purchase and thanks a lot for drawing my attention to this neat phone which should soon land in my mailbox! It will be a nice companion for my Xperia S which I have no intention of flashing.
Also having a ZTE phone is totally hipster! Now one in my country knows that brand.
Hi Folks!!!
I wanted to start a thread for potential aspirants from India interested in purchasing this amazing device!! Let us discuss prices and local availability, also if you can give a reason to move over to this device, would be a interesting to read
The product as of now is listed in SAHOLIC for 40,499 and will be available on 30th September! Anyone going for it? I myself wanted to but it through Flipkart!
Now let us fill this thread up, with the colors of India :good:
Congratulations. Lucky, you have white too unlike AT&T.
Now this is just a suggestion, you will find AT&T phones in ebay for around $575.If you do the currency conversion it is relatively cheaper. AT&T phones work 100% in India. You can sim unlock for a little price in ebay(around $2) too. All of this only if you don't care about warranty.
I will be moving from the US to India for a couple years (Delhi) this next month and plan on taking my att g2 with me, just need to find a carrier and get Sim unlock.
thinking of buying this...looks good :good:
I am anxiously waiting for the release. Flpikart has posted 42,490 for 32 GB model, and 40,490 for 16 GB. Other websites are quoting 40,390 for 32 GB model.... I don't understand why the escalated price on flipkart!!!

Hmmm Looks like not many are interested to buy this AMAZING device from India, it is majorly due to poor advertisement by LG.
Its getting launched tomorrow, i want the 32gb version because i dont want to later regret not having enough space. Price is 43k, i think we should wait a month to see if they reduce price.

Most people go by brand rather than actually check out specs and features, i on the other hand dont give a crap about brand as long as the phone delivers.
But yeah the advertisement has been poor...i dont think ive seen its ad on tv yet
Im quiet interested in this phone. But 40k for a LG phone seems a heavy price to pay considering how many issues i have had with my previous LG phone (nexus 4).. Though i had it shipped from the Uk and had no warranty what so ever the screen cracked twice and the charging port malfunctioned once.. I ended up paying a lot for a 'cheap' Nexus phone. WIll wait for the early adopters to post reviews and will wait for a price drop as well.. And with the nexus 5 around the corner i would advice to wait and watch till you drop your money on this speck heavy phone.

Even I had Nexus 4, and i guess was lucky, i dropped the phone couple of times, and there were no cracks or anything as such. But now I sold my Nexus 4 and anxiously waiting for lg g2.
Nexus 5 has a 5" screen and 2300 mah battery.. so i think would be going with G2.
Its out in India.. Prices in showrooms for 32 Gigs is Rs40490.

It Will get KITKAT but not by stock rom. Bet Even 100 if you want. Get it " G2 Will Not get any KitKat in next one Year of Launch". After that even update won't matter to G2 buyers.
I have Experience: My G Pro haven't got a single update in last 3 monthsas its still at 4.1. Even when there is 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3 & Kitkat in waiting. ( Would Have never bought LG but couldn't reject the gift )
About invest lot of software engineer at korea : They all are *u**ing LG big time. CM with few great people can hold for great no. of devices but OEM suc*s big time.
After This You want to invest in LG junk """" Most Welcome, its Your Money """""

It worths the money, and it's not bad even with stock EMUI ( I am runing Android 6.0.1 on EMUI 4.0 )
This phone is for its price best there is nowadays. have it for 2 weeks and thinking of rooting it as well.
Imo, all the other phones in this price range suffer from two major flaws: 1) lack of manufacturer support post-release 2) lack of hobby developer support. Normally 2) is a direct result of 1). To Huawei's credit they allow full access to the device (bootloader unlock), they publish source code, and they engaged the developer community early on. Even further, they released a major OS update to the phone (Android 5 -> 6.0). As a result we now have a fairly active dev community including a newly minted official CM13 rom. Not many other $200 phones can say that.
If you say its a €500 euro phone with CM i would believe it.. it makes the phone so much faster you wont see a big diffrence between other phones! And the phone has a Premium look aswell. You wont notice its a mid end phone with a low end CPU.
I got this phone ($90USD) to replace my Xperia Z1 Compact and highly recommend it, even for retail $200. Best budget phone I've ever seen. My one gripe is the lack of NFC (I have tags stuck all over the place). However, it's a very well built, solid device with a surprisingly good screen and pretty good battery life. Everyone who's seen it has thought it looked like a $600 phone.
Awesome, awesome buy. Can't recommend it highly enough (assuming you put CM13 on it otherwise ignore every positive thing I've said because the stock interface is not great).
I thought I got a deal @$120! (Prime day).
But I agree, even @ $200 it's still a great value.
This it my current back up phone. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for it at this point, especially you can get the Amazon's Moto G4 for $150 and manually remove the ads.
I consider this the poor man's Nexus 6P. I think the phone is only worth it if you install Cyanogen on it, then it work just like the Nexus. I'm running the phone at 1366x768 resolution to improve the performance.

The Honor 5X, imho, is only worth getting if you flash CM13 on it. Otherwise, I wouldn't exactly consider it, especially with the new phones coming out now. You know, if you care about performance and not extra features (specifically the FPS), the LG G3 should be a better phone overall for not much more.
Also, do you not find the OnePlus 2 a better phone for $300? It's basically a souped up version of the Honor 5X, minus the expandable storage. There's also the LG G4 and Moto X Pure. All of the phones I've mentioned are objectively better than the Honor 5X for sub $300.

Agree 100% with this.
The honor 5x is OK for a backup device only because it just doesn't have the package to make it scream.

As a former huge OnePlus fan, it's time to say goodbye. I never upgraded after the 2, the phones got more expensive and the upgraded features didn't justify the additional cost. I've been running my OnePlus 2 on DU 11.5 for months now, the ROM development just never got to where we all hoped it to be. I blame OnePlus for this not giving the developers the tools needed and really hindering their success opportunities.
A huge thanks to all the devs who have and still put work into keeping this phone development alive. Until we meet again.
As for where I'm going. I'm a 2 phone guy, one for work and one for personal. I'll be switching my personal over to the Samsung A5(2017) which is an incredible phone. And my corporate phone will be an iPhone 7...
Farewell. I'm personally not buying OnePlus again.
Oneplus is still using USB 2.0 in the OP5, over 2 years after the type C spec was published. There is still issues with jpeg compression in their phone app and it is not adjustable. Not releasing decent camera blobs for devs to use in their roms, etc. Oh yeah, premium pricing too. No thanks, I am done with them too.
My carrier has the LG G6 on sale right now, I think I'm gonna try that. I love the idea of a wide angle lens, and the Google camera app with HDR+ is confirmed working on it.

Yeah, I have enjoyed my one plus 2 also but the lack of decent support from the company has turned me off from them. Around the beginning or middle of next month I will be switching to something else. Farewell OP2
OP2 is still a decent phone even in 2017. It's all about finding the right rom for your needs. But yeah.. OP is a terrible company and have forgotten what made them great in the past.

I would say yey new ROM !
There seems to be some good devs working on the phone still so would be surprised if they where all missing something.

Never settle. Yeah right.
Some good points here, yes, OP2 is still a good phone even in 2017. OnePlus turned it's back on it in pursuit for more ka-chiiiing, and 3, 3T or 5 haven't done much to make them sooo much better. But prices, oh my. Just got OnePlus spam in my mail, new OP5 model with more memory already! What? How much?
6GB RAM + 64GB Storage
499,00 €
8GB RAM + 128GB Storage
559,00 €
So I went to see my order from february 2016. I got 64GB one at the time when 32GB was available. Mine was 345€ minus 40€ for coupon. So 305€. Guess what OnePlus, I won't be settling.

Come on, stop. OnePlus 2 was not a good phone, is not a good phone and would never be a good phone.
How can you say it's a good phone when you see User Experience is so bad with the Snapdragon 810, when there is so much thermal throttling every time you are doing something on the phone ? (don't talk about underclock / overclock / custom kernel / etc, those are elements which are flashed after by the user, and are not relevant for every users).
When you can see that you can buy a OnePlus 3T for 350E on Ebay (what I did, phone is in perfect condition), you should not even consider buying the OnePlus 2.
Never had those problems, but I am not using it for games. Phone works just fine - not saying it is (or ever was) a great phone, just a reasonably good one. Mostly let down by software and company which became greedy, and yes, while being the latest thing at the time Snapdragon 810 wasn't that good. Still it works for all basic needs, even after 2 years specs are almost impressive and user experience can be ok. *Not* a power-user experience.
Not comparing it to flagships because it never really was in that category, and you also should put it in it's price bracket, you bought used 3T for 350€ while OP2 when new was 300€. So there's that. After having it for a year and a half I am surely not considering buying another one or recommending someone to get OP2 or any OP actually. For that user experience and satisfaction should be on higher level.
Actually i will buy oneplus again. Why, because it's cheaper then the rivals much cheaper. And i really like my oneplus 2, spent 100 euros for it, really cheap and good phone.

Bought a Nexus 4 towards the end of them selling out for like £150 or something, was a brilliant phone even though I replaced god knows how many screens and back's on it but was a great great phone
Efforts will be put in getting Oreo up for the OP2, specifically halogenOS 8.0

Hahaha, made me laugh, thanks man.
I did ended up bought zenfone 5z mainly for the performance and battery life. I'm gonna keep the axon 7 for backup and sometime use for multimedia device. The dual speaker on axon 7 is one of the best feature I ever use.
For the headphone jack performance. At first, the jack output on 5z was low compare to the axon 7. But after update the output was much better and maybe on par with the axon 7.
The same case for our global axon 7 way back on android marshmellow when headphone output was limited because the EU law and it was fixed on nougat.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 inbound, to replace the 2016 ZTE Axon 7. After doing some research, it came down to the LG G7 ThinQ or the Samsung Galaxy S9. I had been holding off to wait and see the new Google Pixel 3, but I just cannot see paying $ 800 for the base model and most of the reviewers still prefer the S9. Amazon sells the 64 GB black Galaxy S9 for $ 620, and that was as good a price as I could find, with the added bonus of more points on the Amazon credit card. This is for the unlocked version, good for GSM and CDMA US carriers, and has a US warranty. I will initially switch my Cricket SIM card into it, while my wife looks into adding it to her Verizon plan. Verizon has much better service in this area than does AT&T/Cricket, and she thinks she can get some sort of family plan or discount. I wanted to have the option of a phone that I could switch between Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and their resellers as needed.
This will be my first Samsung phone, but the people I know who have that brand seem to like them. I am keeping the Axon as a backup and media device.
I'll make the switch after the Axon 9 is released in the US. At that point it will either be the A9 or the Galaxy Note 9. I've heard good things about both, it's a close tie. I'm accustomed to Samsung Android, having owned several of them, but the Note 4 was the last. I'd really like to give ZTE another chance. I just had my A7 returned from a warranty repair, working good as new. There is no real need to get rid of it, but I like to have the latest. The A9 will need to be bootloader-unlockable, rootable, and TWRP available before I'll consider it. I'm sure there will be some good Treble ROMs for both devices.
Nooo!!! Ty for everything

It's a beast to be honest but I miss the axon.
I'm facing a very annoying touch latency issue which is to be resolved soon hopefully by a software update, but until this gets solved the axon performs better.
U left right before official oreo released
Official b20 itself isn't so great but hopefully everything else from it will help with development

Eeh, **** happens some times in life.
I'm most likely going to refund the poco and get an Oneplus 6, I 'll be losing some features but at least it will be fast with good battery life and no problems.

I did hear of it having some touchscreen problems and connectivity in the US. Isn't the 6t out soon?
