Xiaomi redmi note 3 Kate variant questions - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone I hope everything is going great ...
I just want to know why there is a limited custom roms for the Kate version. And is there any thing to do to move apps to SD card ...
And is there any kernels that work good to the Kate variant . I am speaking about the 2 GB RAM device .

Every ROM that works for Kenzo also works for Kate. In some cases you will need to flash Kate firmware before flashing a Kenzo ROM.
Apps cannot be moved to SD card anymore. It was Google's decision. Some apps will allow you to save data on your SD card (like navigation apps, music or video apps).
You have to find out which kernel suits you best. It depends whether you prefer battery life or performance and which features are important for you.

Thanks man

considering buying a honor 5x

i currently use metro pcs . i would like to buy a good phone.
ive been considering the samsung j7 but the specs on the honor 5x look better.
ive been reading up and it looks like it accepts the metro pcs sims.
according to various reviews, the main issue with the honor 5x is the android interface.
i would like to know which is the best way to get a stock android rom while keeping the phone functional. ??
would installing a stock android be alot better than the current interface the phone comes with ? { is it worth it }
also .. can i play games like hitman sniper on the honor 5x ??
Got Modacco rom no problems or lags i camera from almost stock android
i just bought the phone from new egg, now im looking for a tutorial that shows how to change to a custom rom.
also... instead of custom rom, will i be able to increase performance by using another launcher instead of emui ??
or
am i better off installing a custom rom for maximum performance ?

Nova Launcher is considerably better than the stock EMUI launcher, though I'm not sure that would increase performance... If a faster phone's what you're looking for, then flash a custom ROM, preferrably one that's debloated and as close to AOSP (stock) as possible, so you don't have Huawei's apps slowing down your device. I'm currently using EMUI and fine with it until fingerprint support comes to stock ROMs, but many people agree that customs are much better, faster and stable than EMUI.
Since you didn't specify wether it's your first time flashing a ROM or doing advanced stuff, I'll advise you to read up carefully and thoroughly about what you're getting into - step-by-step guides are nice, but knowing what you're actually doing will most definitely come in handy in the future!
ive flashed a couple of tablets and phones.
theres two so far im willing to try , cm12 and modaco
ive been doing some research and I have some questions....
1- with cm12 does every thing work fine ? ex. fingerprint hdr etc..
2- with modaco does everything work fine ? ex. fingerprint hdr etc..
i want all of the phones features without any compromise

only the stock base roms have FP support ...Modaco is a stock base rom
none of the CM based roms have FP support - bliss - crdroid - aokp - RR - cm12 and cm13 all fall in this category

Hey. I have the honor 5x too. I installed a rom called resurrection remix os.
It is a really solid ROM and increases your performance greatly. It is based on cm 13. Everything works and is stable (on my phone at least). The only thing that doesn't work is the FP scanner. I only tried this ROM so I don't know how the other ROMs for this device perform. So far this has been a really stable option for me. Try it if you want.
Sent from my KIW-L21 using XDA-Developers mobile app
jimandroidnerd thncx for the input , i will try it first to see the best performance the honor 5x can give.
im mainly looking at "modaco" rom or the " rom-stock-b151-stock-rooted-deodexed-t3355130 " because they are either the stock or based on the stock rom.
also i want that fp scanner to work.
WAIT... i just noticed that modaco is only for the KIW-L21 ???
im getting a KIW-L24. what are my best options now with fp support??

Honestly, if you so desperately want FP support, stay on stock, or debloated which would be the most "custom" you'd get afaik. I'm also waiting for FP support so I know the feeling... There are some nice features in EMUI (that Themes customization app is a great thing honestly, I love it, for example) but I would like to run a custom ROM someday. We'll have to wait for the security base release I guess...
ima put in a stock.debloated.root rom and call it a wrap.
if im unsatisfied with the performance ill try resurrection remix os
and just not use the fingerprint.
im getting a KIW-L24 { as mentioned in post #8}
modaco is only for KIW-L21 { as far as i know }
i want a debloated rom that is stable , no glitches .
all reviews i read so far for this phone are positive,
except the emui interface and the preloaded bloatware .
i know im buying a budget phone , but i want it to work as smooth it possibly can

My bad, I missed the conjunction "or" in your sentence : "im mainly looking at "modaco" rom or the " rom-stock-b151-stock-rooted-deodexed-t3355130 ""...
But nobody than you can say what is a bloatware or not so even though Clsa's rom is good better create your own ROM removing what YOU consider as bloatwares.
Since Xposed framework v83 you can also install it by yourself without the need of a deodex firmware : you just have to consider the pros & cons of "deodex vs odex firmwares". Actual working version of Xposed framework for the Honor 5x is v85.
The other problem except EMUI is the lack of OTG feature as default and some other few stuffs...

Well, you actually CAN tell what is bloatware and what isn't, the only difference would be wether you find a particular app useful enough to not consider it a bother on the system...
There's basically no theoretical downside to deodexed ROMs or files, apart from boot time if you wipe dalvik. A question: is Xposed v85 a flashable .zip like normal Xposed? I read somewhere on here that you had to modify system files to do that, but I'f be very happy to know that the Honor 5X now has proper and easy Xposed installation available.
Arobase40 said:
Well I won't argue on what is bloatware or not as this is mainly personal to one another and I won't argue either against deodex vs odex ROM as as I said we now have the choice between apps customizations and ROM performance...
What only matter is your question : you can flash any Xposed Framework zip file with TWRP, but since v83 till v85 you can flash them whether you have deodex or odex firmware and the only change you have to do is to modify the build.prop file.
I actually have Xposed Framework v85 on my odex firmware and it works pretty well.

So by flashing v85, I still have to change the build.prop file? Is there any guide on doing this? Honestly I'd rather wait for v86 if it means not having to edit system files, but if it's unavoidable, then I guess it can't be helped...
just got the phone yesterday. after i deleted some apps and changed emui to "google now launcher"
it seems to run fine. ill give it a week before i start changing the rom
Arobase40 said:
I don't think a v86 would be of any help, just a new Xposed framework installer app...
Otherwise you simply need a root explorer (or kind of same app with root rights).
If you don't want to do the changes directly into your system, you can copy the build.prop file to your Sd Card (keep an unmodified copy somewhere just in case), and do the changes from there with a notepad or such. Then copy the modified build.prop back to the system folder keeping the same permissions and reboot... That's it !

I'm actually reluctant to modify system files if at all possible not to do so since I almost bricked my 5X doing just that (well, kind of, stupid mistake but still...). I'm missing the easy Xposed framework installer honestly. I really hope someone creates an installer for this, or a single flashable zip that also modifies build.prop...
I also just got the device yesterday. Was surprised it allowed me to delete the bloatware on it! I guess they were nice and did not install them on the system partition.
ALso interested in any performance tweaks. Like the phone and os in general but with "budget" processor it would be good to have it running as light on resources as possible.

For performance there are custom, stock or debloated ROMs, and in case you're looking for something in addition to EMUI in order to make it faster I recommend you the apps "L Speed", "Greenify" (guessing you already know this one), and "Kernel Adiutor" if you're into kernel tweaking. Putting your cores on Performance governor should speed the device like hell, at the cost of battery life, but you can tweak it to a smaller degree and find your balance.

Wrote a post on the thread that was ignored, lol. It says on the FAQ that there can be problems with Huawei/Xiaomi as they are chinese manufacturers and do things differently to, say, Motorola, so I'm guessing I won't get a reply no matter how loud I cry out.

But I was polite though... I think. It's probably got more to do with the fact that it's the general Xposed thread so your message gets buried behind bug reports and other questions, I guess. I was searching for other ways of contacting the dev but desisted upon finding that in the FAQ.

Please help me pick a custom Rom, overwhelmed

Finally managed to officially unlock bootloader, but since I started that process over 2 weeks ago, a lot has happened in the Rom and development forum. I was originally going for CM13, but I'm not longer sure if that's a good idea.
I mostly use my phone as a music player, and it runs most of the day while I'm at work. I occasionally send calls and text messages.
I got the RMN3 for the battery and significantly larger screen than what I had before. Phone plans in canada are god awful and as such I got literally no data on my plan, so outside of home wifi, I got no internet on it.
The reason I want a custom rom is mainly to remove bloat and improve battery life, and maybe add a few functions/ behaviours.
I don't really care about the fingerprint sensor, should it not work, but having the camera non-functional is a no-go.
I'm not really interested in constantly having to flash an update on my phone. I just want one good, stable rom with little to no bloat that will do what I'll ask it to, with a good battery life, without crashing. Updating once every month or so would be reasonable. I heard that Android 7(+) had some battery life improvements (Doze?) so I'm conflicted as to rom and android versions.
I'm pretty new to Android, and I'm completely overwhelmed by the many different types of roms, along with the many different versions of the same rom (Example: many CM14/14.1 builds).
There's a lot of guides, but most of them seem out of date.
Device: Global Dev, Kenzo
Any suggestions? (If possible, please also include which version of TWRP you would recommend)
I personnally own the Kate version and flashed the official CM13 ROM built for Kenzo on it.
Everything is working fine for me, including the fingerprint sensor and the camera.
I also use the phone to listen to music all day at work and it worked really well with good battery life.
About the TWRP version I used, honestly I don't remember very well since I tried a few and the reason was something to do with the Kate device I believe, so you may not have to use the same version of TWRP.

Hi, you mentioned stock ROM (not Cyanogen or Nexus experience, just stock). Where could I get that from?
I'm on beanstalk ROM (android 7.1) loving it!
Try krexus-CAF!
You could go for the official build of RR with Radon kernel
welcome to the race, mate
well if you want to improve battery life you are recomended to flash AOSP-Based roms . miui and cm-based roms have battery drain issue (i can't explain why, but i can say that because i tried them)
my recomendation would be Cardinal AOSP
try rr remix 5.7.4 with radon kernel...

Should I use a custom rom?

First of all : I know that this is already explained a hundred times in different topics created around poco's forums. Still, it's not very clear yet to me.
I used to like the MIUI skin and it's features, but lately, because of the bad development in global stable rom and a lot of delay in the updates, I'm planning on going to custom roms.
Last time I used a custom rom was at time of cyanogenmod 13, in my old Moto g (falcon). In that time, I didn't used bank apps, I used to like root apps, root wasn't a problem to banks/Netflix/other apps, my camera didn't had some features like the blur, infrared camera and such things. And that's exact my point. I'm afraid of those things in custom rom: safetypass on bank apps, problems in buggy camera, I'm not used to this "dfe", it's not very clear how to flash, when flash, etc. I'm afraid to lost my IR, I don't want to flash magisk also, but sounds like a very must thing in custom roms lately. I'm atraid to get play store uncertified also.
I like too many features, but I don't plan to use a rom with a lot, because I want a bug free and with good battery and performance too, so I'm going to a stable rom.
Should I use a custom rom or stay on MIUI global stable?
Yes Flash A Custom Rom!
It honestly all depends on you, however, if you are concerned with stability I wouldn't be. Poco's root community is really large and most of the custom ROMs that have been around for a while are really smooth. I personally despised using MIUI, it wouldn't have even been that bad had Xiaomi fixed their gigantic screw up with the notification system. Not to mention unnecessary bloat is on the entire OS and its not really much of a stock Android experience. When I buy new phones I only buy ones that can be rooted and romed because thats essential to me. I currently use the Pixel Experience Rom and I have found it to be the best. While the performance of the rom is on par with the other roms available for this device, its animations are much more fluid. Plus the google camera that comes preinstalled in it works flawlessly, and you can always flash the xiaomi camera zip if you want those features. However, if you want more customizability I would opt for another rom like Reserrection Remix.
When it comes to DFE from my experience you don't have to flash it, you would just have to enter in you passcode each time on boot. Not flashing DFE however can cause problems when you want to flash new updates as the device may still be encrytped. Plus the DFE zip includes magisk so you will pass safetynet. Im able to use most banking apps and netflix just fine on my phone. Plus if you are on MIUI right now and have updated to the latest you probably also have L1, which will transfer over to any custom rom you flash. Heres a typical flash process:
1. Backup Data
2. Wipe everthing on the phone except internal storage and format data if needed
3. Flash the rom zip
4. Flash GApps if needed
5. Flash DFE (Which includes magisk)

Thanks for the information. Tomorrow I'll unlock my BL, and flash probably the PE, or AOSiP. That was very clarifying to me. Just one more question: play store is certified? Because in my last Xiaomi, except for Xiaomi.eu (I didn't had roms like LOS ir RR, just MIUI based), even the MIUI based roms had problems with play store.

its Worth Using Custom ROM Or Stock Rom . Android 10. Realme XT?

Hello guys im back here again.. i left the community when i loss my Lg G4. now i have a realme xt
my quaestion is its worth to use a custom rom again? i view some custom rom here and i read some feature
But no one posting a comparison or change between the performance of realme xt
like a memory or storage that will eat the system or rom
For Example default stock rom android 10 memory eat 3.6gb
something like that
sorry for bad interpretation.

I think the original Rom is important for security reasons
While using banking apps.
And when u use a coustem rom you lose your widevine status... The only think, it improves performance a bit

Miuimi 12 sucks....

Hi guys,
this is my first experience report about my new Poco X3 NFC with Miumi 12 after 14 days in use....
To explain: 2 years ago i got my first xiaomi redmi note 6 pro global. This machine is a fine thing, but i never liked the miui surface. So i decided to unlock and root the phone and use a custom rom. This was the very best decision for me.
So far, so good... At least i bougth my new Poco X3 NFC and i got 14 days ago. I heard a lot of "good" things about the new Miui 12, so that was one reason for me to catch this deal....
After nearby 14 days using this phone with this original surface Miui 12 i can say: it sucks, nothing else but the original apps are running smooth. It is nearly impossible to run an alternative launcher, really nothing runs flawless on this terrible, awful surface! The simplest things like "notification badges" etc. are not present, they still are not in function...
Ok, Miui "spend" a launcher: Poco Launcher. Hmm, nearby, but (for me) lightyears away from any kind of personalization. Change icons? Runs partially... Want to unlink the fu..... ring- and notification sounds? Misrepresented!!! This (for me) confusing settings menu? There is no better thing than a clean android system or custom rom!
The next annoying crap is the annoying advertising - i spend a "little" time to "destroy" this really sucking "feature".....
Oh, before i forgot: i tried to run the launchair launcher, ruthless launcher, nova launcher, microsoft launcher and at least hyperion launcher. With all this launchers it is on my phone totally impossible to run all features - on every other phone with custom rom or original they run like hell!
The one and only way to operate this phone "fine and smoothly" is this: leave it in its original condition! But who wants this? Personalization? Inadequate....
But yes, there are two things they are fine: the energy options and the camera app. But thats it for me.
So, this is my experience after 14 days and the next thing i will do is unlock the bootloader, install a recovery systen (maybe twrp or orange fox) and root the phone with magisk. With this solution i hope to improve some things - i 'll keep testing this
Best wishes and greets
I'm using Nova Launcher on all devices since a couple of years. Mui has the habit of preventing background tasks and autostart(never saw this before) for all apps except Xiaomi and Google ones and probably a few other. Autostart, notifications and widgets i only need for a handful of apps(including the launcher), and none of these worked out of the box.
But all relevant options are bundled in the app's context menu, no scrolling thru huge lists including all the system apps. Simply allow autostart, disable powersaving and give the app more or less all access rights. Running pretty well now. It's only the most bloated phone i ever had, but also the most powerful, so thats not an issue at present.
Hi lecorbusier,
thanks for your answer.
With your sentence >It's only the most bloated phone i ever had, but also the most powerful< your totally right
Yesterday i unlocked my X3, flashed TWRP - and wow: System destroyed....
Turned to fastboot, flashed OrangeFox, puh, it 's not broken....
Flashed Magisk also and today i will see what happen....

Lmao, who told you that MIUI is a good thing. It's ok, but compared to custom ROM it sucks.
If you want to try custom ROM, ArrowOS is the best optimized custom ROM + Void custom kernel If you want maximum fluidity/smoothness as it's optimized for minimum latency and jank. Battery life is still good in my usage, maybe 2 hours less maximum, but it's worth it. With stock kernel, SOT is a bit better.
ArrowOS gets improvements every day on ROM side with fixes & improvements + occasionally improvements & fixes to the device side.
I tried 5 other custom ROMs (crDroid, Resurrection Remix, LineageOS 17.1, CorvusOS, NitrogenOS) and that's my experience.
Everything works except fast charging information with Xiaomi charger (all custom ROMs have this issue) & Miracast (which I'm not sure if it works or not since I never used it).
So all in all, just flash custom ROM in this one too!
Devil's advocate here ( ), Xiaomi.eu with updated firmware and Stormbreaker kernel feels smooth as butter here -- but it takes some intensive tweaking.
Hi there, good morning from Germany
A short "update"....
After "repairing" (see 3 posts above) I've done the following:
Installed Lsposed (Magisk), installed CustoMIUIzer and started "playing" with the mass of settings in it....
What should I say: I'm pretty impressed.
Almost everything is going as hoped and does what it should! Till now I got no numbers on my notification badges, but this is a part I can live with.
That doesn't mean that i have changed my opinion about the MIUI-Surface, especially the terribly nested settings.... But with a bit of work you can establish a relatively well-running system that you can personalize according to your wishes.
So for the moment I'm pretty happy, but I'm still testing...
Ah, before i forget to mention: magisk and safetynet was another problem. I have found a module that works (for me), look here
So, thats it for today, many greetings and happy easter
Hello everyone,
here 's another short update for miui....
The good news first: it runs, Ruthless Launcher is working, original camera app is fine, other things: see my post above...
That 's it!
Unlock by (or with) bluetooth??? Fail! It seems that Xiaomi only supports its own devices - what a crap.... I clearly miss this function.
I stick to my opinion: miui sucks....
The only point that keeps me from installing a custom rom is the camera app (at least for the moment)...
My conclusion: to use all possibilities of this device you "must" use a custom rom, otherwise you have to live with the restrictions

My main reason to keep Xiaomi.eu, too. When LOS becomes official, I'll brace myself for intensive testing of camera alternatives...
for me, personally, i dont like miui as well. luckily we have a bunch of custom roms out there and even i found a better rom for my daily use, i still try flashing some rom to experience some other features. tho, at the end of the day, i end up using my rom that i am using daily. if you want the rom with alot of customization, have a good BB, and have miui camera, i suggest to use Ancient OS
Hi all together
@dahrel22: thanks for your tip, it seems like this is what i was looking for...
I think I'll test it out, I can't do more than break it

yes bro you better try it. im currently using the old build which is the miui verdor based. the new build comes with oss vendor but i think im not ready to flash it. i having trouble keeping my phone decrypted from oss vendor based roms. so i'll still be using the old build.
After the updates my Poco x3 NFC restarts in stand-by mode or when I'm using whatsapp, suddenly the screen goes to black..and then back to the homescreen... :/
Does anybody tried a custom rom? I would like to give a try.
Hello to everybody,
here 's my newest experience with "Miui-machine"...
I tried the tip from dahrel22 (see 4 posts above) und flashed Ancient OS 5.3 - I did everything according to the description, but in the end I had an encrypted partition on my phone....
Yesterday I had the great idea to cleam my device up und flash it again...
What can i say: it was a horrible trip
Like before I 've done everything as described - but it ends with a lot of issues like "no root" and "no system" directory, unable to mount system partion and so on and so on... This action cost me a lot of annoyance
(I tried this with two custom roms: Ancient OS 5.4 and Evolution X).
I was then able to revive the device using fastboot and the mi flashtool.
The Mi-Flashtool also ended with an error, but the system works - for whatever reason???
So at the moment I'm "driving" this damn Miui again and I'm really pissed off!
Maybe someone from you has a "smooth" idea to solve my problem??
Many greetings and thanks

im feel so sorry when i read your experience. maybe some confusion because 2 builds at the same version have different vendor based. both of them are comes with 5.3 but one comes with miui, one comes with oss. as i say i really have a hard time to keep my phone decrypted on oss when im using orange fox (now im in twrp but still no planning of flashing oss) if you flashed the old build, i mean the miui vendor based build, i think the outcome will be better.
what version of miui are you into right now?
edit: you know i feel bad for you as you need to do this "mi-flashtool" kind of stuff. next time, if you make mistake flashing something, i suggest just to flash miui rom again (miui eu will do) using recovery (i suggest twrp). i did that before many times and it never fails me.

with the newest miui 12.0.9 from xiaomi eu? have you flashed the decrypted vendor? then try to flash the oldest ancient 5.3, anyways, one more stable rom i used is PE+. the new anx cam 2.4 works pretty well.
