I used to run on Sultans CM13 on which I had encryption enabled and it worked fine.
Now, I have decided to try out Nougat ROMs. (LegendOS and Resurrection Remix.) In both cases all works, but when I set it to encrypt phone - I get this "encryption in progress" animation for a few seconds and then phone reboots, without applyng encryption or showing any errors.
On LegendOS I tried Arsenic kernel as well, but issue is the same.
I updated TWRP to latest as well.
Currently, I would love to use Resurrection Remix if I can get it to encrypt. All roms have been installed properly (system, data, cache, dalvik wiped before install.
I am on Gapps Pico - not sure if it matters at all.
Could anyone help me out, what am I missing here?
Thanks
Okay, I just had to run A Full Wipe and Format system partition.
Now it works.

Hi,
yesterday i went through the process of flashing custom rom and i just want to share my experience.
My daily driver was the latest MIUI7 because it was very stable and battery life was good (stock global stable, locked bootloader). But i decided to try custom rom mainly because i had strange performance issues every now and then.
1. Applied for official unlock - Unlock Page
2. I read many posts and i tought it might be best to upgrade to MIUI8 first. I updated with the official updater app.
3. Unlocking didnt work because you need a Developer Rom of MIUI installed to link the device to you Mi account and successfully unlock. I downloaded latest global dev rom and flashed with official updater app.
4. Unlocked successful with official Mi Unlock Tool.
5. Installing TWRP ZCX - worked and was easy
6. Backup System, Data, Firmware, Modem with TWRP (didnt need it so far)
7. Flash Nitrogen OS
8. Reboot to system - "to start android enter password" - surprised and shocked so i googled and found a hint to "format data" because storage might be encrypted.
9. In TWRP - Wipe i "formated data" so all files were deleted! be sure to backup everything!
10. Nitrogen OS booted (no need for Gapps - everything is built in)
11. Flash fingerprint fix - apparently i have the Goodix and need this fix for fingerprint to work
12. I was confused because there was no caller app (call worked but no UI) so i flashed new and again and tried Psy Firmware but i just had to set the caller app in settings.
13. All is working good so far :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for all the work done by this community. I greatly appreciate all the cool stuff! :highfive:
EDIT: I have FPC sensor not Goodix. The fix is for FPC! Thanks to @Denis:) for pointing that out.
You are wrong on some points ;p
Its so easy to flash roms on all snapdragon devices
Theres a need for gapps, it doesnt come preinstalled on roms, which is a good thing.
If you flashed fpc fix and it works now, it means you have FPC sensor, not goodix (which is good -like me), dev of NOS will make fpc default from now on.
For next time, you need to format data when you come from Miui MM, because it encrypts data by default.
Also I suggest formatting data, cache to F2FS, it actually makes it even faster a bit imo, but ita not a must.

I have installed LineageOS several times over MIUI but I didn't need to format data. Why does this happen in nitrogen os, any idea?

The level of difficulty may be different for different people
I flashed NitrogenOS and Gapps but then did a wipe and flashed only NiOS but in the end i had all the Google apps... Maybe this part didn't get wiped - Thanks for pointing that out.
Right, FPC sensor - my mistake
The encryption thing was confusing because there is not much info on that topic here - especially the guides. Thanks for confirming this is a thing.
This F2FS format thing is done in TWRP?
If you didnt wipe system aswell, gapps and ROM persisted.-dirty flash (update ROM)
If you want to update ROM + gapps, you must wipe System aswell with dalvik/art, cache
Then flash ROM+gapps , wipe cache and reboot
F2FS is done in twrp but you must have f2fs compatible twrp - I successfuly use rc1 latest by TheStrix, obviously if you choose to format data, cache you will lose data and you will have to clean flash ROM.
P.s By the way, when was your device made? Im just curious

If you want to experiment please try to format the partitions using f2fs and tell us your results.
I tried it but was unsuccessful since when I tried it there was no recovery that could support f2fs. Remember only dadii's TWRP works still I recommend you confirm it again.
Im using this one by thestrix and it works perfect;

currently i don't feel like tinkering with my phone any more. So i keep the F2FS in mind for some time in the future
Hm i don't know where to find the build date of my phone i bought it April 2016
I got Resurrection Remix 7.1 (official 3/15) installed and working and I have never run a custom ROM before on any phone, but I must say WOW. This work(ed) so beautifully. Very responsive and clean interface and the battery life was looking phenomenal. It was basically everything I could have wanted and then some.
Now the bad news. I was trying to run a file manager that seemed to lack root access and I clicked on SuperSu which said it needed to update, I chose "update normally" instead of via TWRP. It ran and said it succeeded but needed a reboot. Now I am in the "Get Resurrected" bootloop and I don't know if there is any way to recover at this point. I can obviously get back into TWRP and I tried wiping and re-flashing 35B bootstack and RR ROM zips. No luck.
Before this ROM I was thinking seriously of upgrading from G3 to something newer but after seeing how well this runs on the G3 hardware I don't see any reason to upgrade given how well this run, though I only had it up to test for 4-5 hours.
Any help would be appreciated. I did find another post on CM13 in bootloop from SuperSu install/update and flashing a 'make permissive selinux' fix which worked for this situation. I am wondering if it may work for RR bootloop as well? Again any help would be appreciated.
Big thanks to Rohlm who suggest system format before re-installing!
I went into the Wipe options in TWRP and selected the format data and then went through the install steps again. Data, cache, Dahlvik wipe, 35B bootstack flash, RR 7.1 flash, gapps 7.1 arm flash and I'm now "Re-Resurrected!" And I checked still have root access!
Cheers,
-Scott
Hello guys, I need a little help here, my MIUI version is out of date so I decided to try other ROMs and I picked HavocOS.
I wiped data, cache and dalvik using the latest TWRP and then installed HavocOS and OpenGApps, after a few second after rebooting, it gave me an error "Decryption Unsuccessful".
I tried to first flash the latest firmware for Kenzo and then second flash HavocOS but I got no luck. I also tried to disable passwords on MIUI but didnt work
So, would the only solution with this problem is to reformat the internal storage and change the partition type? Thanks

Format data is only option if u want to move from miui to custom roms. Custom roms cant decrypt it.
Ok, so this is what you have to do:
Go back to TRWP, wipe: data, cache, system (!!!), dalvik, than back to main menu and "wipe", tap "format data" button in the bottom right. A prompt will appear, type "Yes"
Now you can flash Havoc, and anything else you want and it will work.
Make a backup before everything you need from internal storage.
My device is redmi note 4x (mido), I've tried lots of different custom roms, i'm installing these roms as the instructions say, but I always get some problems like camera crashing, default file browser crashing, corrupted package installer where you cannot install any app where it just says app not installed. Now I'm stuck without sim card and wifi working I currently have OrangeFox-R8.3-mido twrp
I tried roms like resurrection remix, lineageos, havoc os and all of them have some issues and other users don't experience these for some reason.
I tried to wipe literally everything possible in the twrp (maybe wiped too much?) with different combinations, format data, factory reset and also advanced wipe> and tick everything form here, then I install the firmware if the rom instruction says so > flash rom without wiping cache, flash newest open gapps arm64 usually 9.0; nano and then hit the reboot and usually bit laggy(and sometimes crashy) google setup pop ups, and if it doesn't fail on the setup I get some of the problems I talked before. Anyone also had problems like these?:crying::crying:
The only wrong thing that I see in twrp is
Code:
mount: failed to mount /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/sec at /firmware: Invalid argument
it's written with white text(not red as usual errors)
I prefer u to wipe everything. And switch to orangefox r9 and wipe everything and then install any trble rom. See if thus works

I updated the orangefox and it didn't help, tried to download the normal twrp from https://dl.twrp.me/mido/ and it still doesn't work,
It doesn't see my sim card, wifi during settings and I can't even turn on the bluetooth
Hi there,
I've reinstalled my Lineage OS in May and have recently installed the latest upgrade. Today, I was using my phone just fine before a subway trip, then after it was stuck in a boot loop (lineage OS circles). My guess is that I accidentally restarted it.
What is the procedure to repair the phone without loosing the data?
I tried:
- Reinstalling recovery, lineage, MindTheGApps in that order
- Wiping the cache partition, wiping the dalvik cache
So far I have not seen any progress. Am I missing something?
I really want to avoid wiping my data as I just set the phone up two months ago.
Did you try dirty flashing the ROM zip by only Wiping the System partition but not Data? I use NikGApps and its not necessary to reflash it during a dirty flash but I flash the latest GApps build in any case. I pretty much use crDroid exclusively and dirty flashing works reliably. Not encrypted though.
Ok, so I did the following
Action -- What I think it does
Install TWRP recovery via fastboot -- to selectively wipe partitions
Wipe System -- to remove system files from the previous update
Wipe Cache & Dalvik cache -- to remove cache files that have previously been written on startup
Install lineage os -- to install a clean OS
Install MindTheGapps -- to install the Google subsystem
System reboot
Files used:
twrp-3.6.2_9-0-beryllium.img
lineage-19.1-20220618-nightly-beryllium-signed.zip
MindTheGapps-12.1.0-arm64-20220605_112439.zip
Again with:
lineage-19.1-20220716-recovery-beryllium.img
lineage-19.1-20220716-nightly-beryllium-signed.zip
MindTheGapps-12.1.0-arm64-20220605_112439.zip
Still caught in the boot loop.
I feel a bit lost here.
I did nothing special. Just installed the newest Lineage OS from the GUI and then apparently accidentally restarted it (or it crashed). This should be a common use case. I would expect there to be a guide or wiki that explains and solves this. But from my own Google searches I mostly see recommendations in the line of try wiping and reinstalling.
I am pretty sure, my data is encrypted. Does this mean I am screwed? (i.e., all not backup-ed data is lost?) Was flashing a new Lineage OS & GApps the step that doomed me?
Before the bootloop did you have TWRP installed instead of LOS recovery? Flashing the OTA update via TWRP can be problematic.
I had recovery installed. I reinstalled the Image from Lineage recovery. After this didn't work I tried it with TWRP.
Did you try flashing the build you were using before the bootloop occurred? No clue otherwise how to resolve this. Hopefully someone else can help you out.
Yes, first I tried installing only MindTheGapps, then lineageOS (last version I had) + MindTheGapps. And I tried a number of recent releases.
I also tried the most recent version and now I cannot install earlier versions anymore: "Current SPL: 2022-07-05 Target SPL: 2022-06-05 this is considered a downgrade".
I gave up. Reinstalled everything. Lost a ton of messages for which I did not have the right backup.
Depressing. Nothing I did was special. So I can expect this to happen anytime. I will improve my backup. But still, in the long term I need to find something that is reliable.
Thanks @amn1987 for the suggestions.
Use Swift Backup for backing up apps and their data, SMS, call logs etc. on a regular basis. Works very reliably. You can backup messages to Google Drive as well. Probably can schedule the backups.
