S8 output to portable monitor - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

Hi!
I am planning to grab a portable monitor (8-10 inch) to be used with my S8 when I'm going somewhere I can't use my Samsung Dex.
Are there any good portable monitor with battery embedded?
If possible, I want to use my S8 a bit like Asus Padfone S...

i bought this one to use with dex. it's a bit bigger than you wanted, but seems quality...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XSVRVD4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ah, yes... Ive seen that... Sadly too bulky for me, and most important, need to be plugged in to a power adapter to power on...
I'm wondering if its possible to use a padfone S dock as an extender...
With a MicroUSB to USB C adapter as well though xD

to me, it wasn't any worse than a laptop in total. downside is requiring 2 power sources.

You can use This, Or this

Wow!!! Thank you very much for those two!
It is exactly as I needed!!
The only thing is to wait for those to be released. If ever.

Thanks
That was 2 great links i was looking for a solution.:good:

You can also use the ASUS mb169b+ which is USB Type A
However you'll need the DisplayLink Presenter app. However I find that the DisplayLink Desktop (Demo) (Unreleased) works better as it enabled the scroll whell as well.
The monitor uses the phone as battery, so you might need to grep a usb-c dongle with a integrated usb-c charge port and usb-a port.

you can use GeChic 1503H 15.6-inch IPS 1080p because its best in quality and reasonally priced also have all the features.
one of my friend suggested me to read this article because they have mention top 10 best portable monitor with all the features and comparsion table with prices.

Just imagine, a CASE that adds another screen to your phone so ou have 2 screens of the same size and portable. but imagine this to work on any phone with MHL . is not difficult and the technology already exist. so you can have a note 2, s6, note 8 etc whatvere and just attach the case to it.

i had an idea guys. did you saw the new LG dual screen phone? is just a flip case with a screen atached to the cover.
now remember samsung GROUP PLAY ? you can put 2, 3, 4 or 5 phones together forming an extended desktop experience.
i would just use 2 Note 4 phones together with a 3d printed case. think now how awesome would be to use 2 note 9 phones togheter.
dual or 4 sim, dual battery, dual superamoled screen, double processors etc. everything double.

you can try ASUS MB168B and vinpok split touch screen monitor

This should work fine if you plug it in to a Battery pack
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CH2HRLP/
I own the 15.6" non touch and it works quite well on my laptop. The one linked is the smaller 11.6" one for only $106
Comes with a micro hdmi to hdmi cable and uses micro usb for power.

[Q] DROID DNA MicroUSB Port 11-pin? 5-pin?

Okay I have asked around everywhere I can, and I can not get a straight answer from anyone. I would really like to get to the bottom of this if possible. It is my final deciding factor on if I buy this device or the Galaxy Note 2.
I want to know how many pins the HTC Droid DNA has in the MicroUSB Port. I am asking because I want the phone to be able to handle both HDMI out + OTG at the same time. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has an 11-pin port which when used with the Samsung Smart Dock allows simultaneous HDMI + OTG. If it does ill buy the DNA + the Smart Dock and get the best of both!
Please let me know!

As there is no mention of HDMI support of any kind (and the USB port comes covered, as they want you to use wireless charging) my inclination is no. That it'll only support pure USB (5-pin)
yes it does...
According to this line on phonearena.com... phonearena.com/phones/HTC-DROID-DNA_id7498_ (sorry not sure if we're allowed to post specific links or not), yes, the Droid DNA micro USB is capable of sending an HDMI out signal.

Wow why can no one answer my question. Of course it handles HDMI out I knew that like a week ago. How does no on care about the phone being able to do both HDMI + OTG at the SAME TIME. What the hell do I have to do to get a straight answer? I want to know, how many pins the MicroUSB port has in it, 5 ? or 11? 11 Means that you can use the phone essentially as a portable computer and not only hook it up to your flatscreen but also run an external flash/hard drive, charge, use a usb hub, use mouse & keyboard, ETC. Out of this many people with Android smartphones how is it that only like 10 care if a device has this capability.
HDMI + OTG SIMULTANEOUS YES OR NO ? ANYONE? PLEASE!

Been using smartphones for a long time, never tried to do all that. The only reason I would hdmi out my phone is home videos and YouTube.

While we're on the subject of wireless, we should note that the Droid DNA also features dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n, NFC and compatibility with HTC's Media Link HD for wireless HDMI mirroring.
If you don't mind going the wired route, a MHL adapter will easily work here in its place. Sadly, USB OTG isn't officially supported.

Not sure that answers your question specifically, but maybe indirectly?
I believe the HTC Droid DNA has a 5 pin layout. I just bought it today, and I can see that it has 5 pins on the center piece, just like my Samsung Galaxy S2, which I know is a 5 pin layout for MHL.

Did you even read the OPs post before responding?? How 'bout his follow up questions??
He wants to know if the phone has USB OTG technology. As in 'can it read a flash drive?'
He's addressing the exact same question that you tried to offer to my comment in another thread, but it appears your reply to that thread was misinformed.
Do you actually put any thought into your replies, or are you simply trying to get the high score on post count??

Not the best pics, but does this help?
I am using a 4 port hub but built cable to otg and plug into HTC bb g600 for power so it doesn't drain power from the DNA. My first attempt is successful in powering usb device and transfering data rather quick compared to using the DNA for power. I have a cable on order that will allow me to otg and plug charger in to charge phone since the built one didn't come from HTC it won't charge it. Don't know if this is useful to anyone else but me, but it does resolve needing external power plugged to wall or laptop etc. Still not sure how many pins. It does power a thumb drive just with otg cable and 32 gig sd plugged to usb adapter but I don't like the draw it has on battery performance without battery pack.
Ps...hdmi adapter on way as well so will let know if otg plus hdmi work together.
Pss... I know the hdmi adapter works on DNA still haven't tested both at same time will post this evening.

Dock?

I am using the dock I got for my note 1 almost 2 years ago for this behemoth. It fits, and works, but it's got a slight wobble from not having a flat bottom like the Note had. I also feel like the phone shouldn't hang over every edge of it's dock. Muffin top is not a becoming look.
Anybody know of a decent dock that won't make me sad in the wallet?

Samsung Galaxy Mega Docks Ebay
Hi
My question is whether Multimedia Smart Dock EDD-S20EWEGSTD will match Galaxy Mega GT-i9205 ?
Propably should work, it has the same 11-pin connector at Note 2, SGS 3 and SGS 4 .
This corresponded to what I can connect to the dock . I read on the net that works well with Note 8.0 , it would be for me to purchase a universal . Only new Galaxy Note 3 Others have looked like a connector USB 3 available in portable drives as if consisting of two parts . That him certainly will not be fit, but it would not buy a shame because the money for the stylus and the programs that and so I did not use . The size of the Mega scares me a little but I think about it more and more, and probably this week I'll go and get him to the store replaced by Note 8 which I forgave her daughter and well-worn SGS II.
Maybe someone tried to effect the Dock of the Galaxy Mega?
If so, please provide all the links, images and videos on the topic .
Ps.: Mega ordered in white reception on Tuesday.
I could not resist This mega cool phone that up dreaming up all night
Had only one item on display because that was no longer mine.
I can verify that the mega works fine with the note 2 smart dock. I watched some videos last night using it.I haven't tried the usb capabilities yet but I'm assuming they would work done.

Ive been testing these dock in Samsung's outlet with 2 old usb 2.0 HDDs (flash type ones), and EDD-S20EWEGSTD showed itself from a bad side at least with one of them, it couldnt supply enough power to feed it up. So as i remember, I was forced to coneect it using additional Y cable to dock and to another additional usb power port (from one another adapter) to make it finally working .... whatta ff*uck?! #1

i have the dock my self, first time i connected it didnt work(scared the hell out of me, cause i've readed something about different versions of the dock) but after i rebooted my phone it worked excelent. still using it.
specs are: 720p video output and the good thing about it is that its charging with 2a charger instead of being stocked with 500ma from an mhl cable.
when you connect wireless mouse/keyboard, the screen of the mega(i9205 i have) goes black and the screen output goes landscape.
people say audio jack doesnt work.. dont believe it thats BULLS**T. look at settings > accessory of youre phone and then check "Audio Output Mode" box to get audio from the jack.
if you have any further questions about information on the dock just pm me ill will get to ya as soon as possible
PS. i found the image on XDA Forums so pls dont blame me for using pictures or whatever, its just for helping purposes.
What about battery discharge rate during use of hdmi function? How is its max 720 p on a big screen? Im using a copy of et-10fau adapter mhl2.0 and it's output is 1080p 60fps. And battery discharge rate is close to 4-5% per hour...

i've got it from a second hand(used by someone else) but its already confirmed that its working.
you can also order on ebay(but be sure its the original samsung one with 11 pins)
EDD-S20 E WEGST D looks as quite obsolete because of its mhl. Its worth to find EDD-S20 J WEGST A. Comparing video output its 720 vs 1080p. And as it is later product = less risks with it.

Samsung Smart Dock Multimedia Hub

Just got my new Samsung Smart Dock Multimedia Hub: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009KZ3XE6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And boy is it SWEET. Got a logitech K400 wireless keyboard with touch pad, plugged the dongle into the usb port and plugged in an HDMI cable to my audio video reciever, and now I have a 55" HD monitor.

I will CHROOT a Linux image and use my new Galaxy Note 3 as my new computer!!
It comes with a 2amp charger just like the one that came with our phone. And it is compatible with the Galaxy Note 3:

This smart dock is really cool, here is another demo of it getting hooked up with a KMV cable:

The one in your link is for the N2 and S3-S4. One new feature the N3 came out with is the USB 3.0.
I'm waiting for Sammy to come out with a dedicated dock for the N3 to take advantage of the higher speeds, that is if you want to set it up as your new desktop computer with mouse/keyboard, HDMI monitor and an external HDD hooked up to it... I'll wait.
The one in the link is for the GN3 as well if you check.
I wouldn't hold my breath. Samsung doesn't seem to be in any hurry to come out with ANY accessories for the GN3, let alone a dock that is going to be pretty much the same as this one. The 3.0 usb is only faster for smaller files. There's been a couple of guys on the forums who have run some tests. I personally have found it a little faster for some things, but overall, not much. With my set up and an SSD, I'm not waiting for anything at all when I'm working on it.

It is for n3 also. You're not benefitting much from the usb3. I'd rather wait for 64bit phones to come out and mature some before I start using a desktop dock.

It should work fine, but I don't have one so I can't test it to see. By connecting the keyboard with a mouse it automatically switches the interface to the mouse instead of the phones touch screen, so It may or may not see the touch screen feature of the monitor. I would just take it to someplace like Best Buy and test it first if I were you.

Right, it's compatible with the N3, but it doesn't mean it was made for it.
So you think the end user would benefit more (see the actual speed increase) from the 64 bit computing rather than transfer speeds increase from using the USB 3.0? I'm sure the dock station mean for a light home use (internet, documents, multimedia, etc, not sure about gaming with this setup) and not for the 3D modeling and such? I honestly can't say that I was blown away from switching to 64 bit home PC and notebook, the noticeable difference on a phone would be even less.
Thinking about it, can't even say I'd see the benefits of USB 3.0 as I don't (and won't be) copying files between the phone memory and the external storage.

I'll try to get you some pics this weekend. It should fit with your case. I'm a bit concerned that case seems' significantly thinner than mine but the pics will be much appreciated It will allow me to make an informed decision and have you done the HDMI connection to a TV is there an issue with it or is everything on the dock working properly I saw the video about the KMV switcher where he forced landscape but the sizing issue is of concern I'll probably have to bite the bullet on that one.

Everything works perfectly. I watch full screen HD movies on my home theater system all the time. And the dock automatically switches the view on the HDMI connected peripheral to landscape. as long as you have daydream toggled off in display and desk home screen display toggled on in accessory. You should also set HDMI audio output to surround if you have a home theater system.
You don't need KMV switcher.
I get my movies from Showbox. Due to XDA policies, I can't post the apk for it here, but you can just Google it to download and install.
I am not getting 1080p
When I hook up the dock to the monitor it is giving me 1280x720. Any ideas?
Hello... I would buy this dock. But a question. Why have the note3 so a different usb-connector.. Micro-usb +??? My Orginal Samsung otg cable works. My non Samsung Orginal mhl-hdmi cable works. What or for What is this connector.. Another little help please. Cover and dock works together i read, is this right? I use Orginal Samsung s view Cover.
Gn3 has a usb3.0 connector. Standard 2.0 micro USB works fine
I'm really disappointed with the smart dock.
There is a lag of half a second between the action and the display on the TV screen, It's impossible to play any games in theses conditions.

There is lag from the MHL connection to the TV. I've an aftermarket MHL to HDMI cable and Samsungs own MHL connection, both which have a lag on TV screen compared to what is actually happening on the device.
Fine for Movies and Stuff, but completely unsuitable for gaming.

See NZtechfreak's YouTube vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hy3wETf5o0 here.
He plays games with the SmartDock and his PS3 controller, so "completely unsuitable for gaming" is a bit of an exaggeration.
And nobody said there was no lag. I questioned the previous poster's "half second" lag experience. The lag through the dock is closer to a tenth of a second, as is clearly visible the clip.
If that's unacceptable to you, then your choice is clear - don't get one. And not everybody plans on gaming. For me, the ability to stream Netflix to my TV justifies the SmartDock's existence.

HDMI disconnects (S7 AND S7+)

Hi,
I have had a Tab S7 Wifi 128 GB (returned it) and have a Tab S7+ 256 GB 6GB RAM here. I want to use it for streaming games only. I capture on my desktop pc with a AverMedia 4k capture card (but I have 4k and 1080p Elgato cars here as well to test).
I plugin the USB-C Multiport Adapter (EE-P3200) from Samsung and it shows "HDMI connected". Screen mirroring and DEX work, resolution and 60Hz are just fine. But after a few minutes - sometimes more, sometimes less the signal drops with a "HDMI disconnected" message. I have to unplug and plugin the adapter again.
- This happens all the time, on the homescreen, in apps, in games.
- It's not the monitor -> it works with all my devices I have here and I tried
- It's not the adapter -> I also have an Apple adapter, an Aukey adapter and a no-name USB-C to HDMI cable ... all four solutions have the same problem!
- It's not that particular Tab S7(+) -> a brand new S7 and S7+ do the same
- It's not the capture card(s) -> Same behaviour with all 3 cards AND I have an Android Huawei MatepadPro tablet as well as an iPad Pro here that work just fine with all adapters, all cables, all capture cards
I "reset" both the S7 and S7+ even tho both were brand new and sealed. Both were/are on the newest software update from October 1st. The problem existed on the stock software as well.
Any ideas please? The tablet itself is great and the huge screen is simply put amazing. But If I can't use the HDMI output it is useless for me.

I just got an update on my AT&T tab S7 5G with November security. Maybe there is a fix coming for this. I have seen Samsung doing USB C updates to devices recently too.

I just got that update two days ago, but it changed nothing.
I've had about 10 calls with Samsung tech levels 1 and 2. Every call I had to explain every from scratch (even with a case number lol) and every person told me "problem is not known/reported", the last guy I had on the phone told me his colleague (that he was texting with during the call) had multiple customers complain about hdmi disconnects and he (the colleague) was able to reproduce the issue on two S7's himself.
I returned the tablet now as a stable hdmi output is vital for my usecase.
For others having the problem, do you have external power connected to the adapter? Plugging a USB-PD analyzer into the S7 shows it can only source 500mA, which might not be enough for some adapters (especially the ones that are also USB hubs) to work reliably.
So after almost 4 months now I bought a brand new Galaxy Tab S7+ again. New Android version, new OneUI version, same problem.
- 4 different adapters (3 with PD) including the original Samsung EE-P3200
- different HDMI cables (including a 8k certified one)
- issues with a Thomson TV, Sony TV, Asus Monitor, Elgato 1080p capture card, AverMedia 4k capture card
- 3 brand new tablets (S7, S7+ and another S7+)
- all my adapters, cables and devices work 100% fine with: iPad Pro 2017, iPad Air 4, cheap Chinese Windows tablet
Hey yuri. You are not alone. i have the exact same problem. I tryed two different adapters, 3 power brackets. End device is my Elgato Capture card. Tryed it also on my Tv my Beamer and so on... My connection breaks randomly all the time. Its hard to find a solution for this problem.. Tab S7+ 5G

although i had a usb c hdmi hub that i bought for my s8 phone (not that long ago) i found it's actually the power source+hub that's the culprit.
i knew it does need power cable too in when hdmi out-ing however i thought that 1.5-2A charge is just fine and since it was a good build quality usb c hdmi hub that it will be just fine as well
it wasn't until i had accubattery confirm while running that even with the stock quick charge brick in, when Dexxing if the tablet screen is on too there's barely 0,4 Amps surplus charging the tablet battery after all the consumptions.
mind you i had external drive+usb mouse+usb keyb all hooked up at once.
either that (orig quick charger adapter from Samsung) did the trick or the other : LEVIN USB C hub i bought from Amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083DZ1...abc_A1006ASWRW8EZE438PK9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
but since these two changes my Dexxing is rock solid
at first i thought there's some proprietary trickery is in place that it only works with original Samsung gear (hubs) but i still found these to be too pricey so i got the aforementioned Levin which was of 15.97 gbp inc. posting
hope this helps solving it too

Well I gave up on the S7(+) long ago already. It did NOT work with the official Samsung power adapter + USB-C adapter.
Also just for testing... I had bought a cheap Samsung Galaxy S5e, and ALL adapters, ALL power bricks, ALL hdmi cables worked with that. Same on a Huawei Matepad Pro and a Lenovo P11 Pro (which I am using now). All my stuff (in every combination) works on all Android tablets (and iPads) that I tried.
And all Samsung "customer support" could tell me after 4 months was "apparently Samsung devices can not suit your needs when using capture cards" (apparently a 1.000 EUR device can not while their 400 EUR tablet can). No comment.

Question How to use our s23 Ultra as an android PC ?

Hello everyone.
my phone died at the same time as my PC last month (a coalition).
I bought the s23 ultra for its power hoping to be able to use it as a phone as much as as a PC (android pc).
Could you tell me what hardware is needed for this conversion (I already have a Bluetooth keyboard + mouse) ?
Best regards
Here is my setup (plug in a monitor for Dex to get a more desktop experience)
Dock 1 - (pictured) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B095F4FZZY/
Dock 2 - (Raised) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PFC2ZW9
Both of these have HDMI out and also plenty of extra ports for connecting things.

I had something like this and it works great if you are just wanting to hook it up to Dex. I have something similar and is great to have.
I switched to the Dock style like I linked because it allows me to use the phone without the need of an external display (but has the option to use one).
Either solution would work great and the best thing is you can plug in full size Mouse and KB to either option if you do not want to stick with the BT KB if it is not full size.
Thank for answers !
I've got something like that !
so Waiting for my S23 and let's go !!!
question more,
does s23U usb-c support display port 1.4 or 1.2 ?

I don't know really what refresh rate is supported by our S23 Ultra
There are a lot of options to use S23U as an Android PC.
You can use a USB C dock. There are some docks that are more designed for desktop setup to be PC. I would suggest getting something that has passthrough power charging since there is only one USB port. Technically you can use Qi charging pad, but wireless charging tend to make batteries run hotter, which can shorten the life the battery in the long term.
Since Samsung has Dex on many of its phones, you essentially only need to hook the phone up to some kind of display. After that, it's about making it a better experience. This is connecting a keyboard, mouse, and so forth. I personally like Logitech ERGO K860 keyboard. Ergonomic, but has Bluetooth and a wireless receiver, and can be synced up to 3 devices. The Logitech MX Anywhere 3 Compact mouse it nice. Small, thus very portable. Also can synch up to 3 devices.
There are also lapdocks such as NexDock and Uperfect. These are basically like laptops but with no central processing or storage. They're a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. They're still pretty early in the product cycle and haven't gotten to a general population use. I have the Nexdock Touch and NexDock 360 wireless. They work very well, but there can be some quirks. The phone is all the CPU, GPU and storage. Most modern phones released in the last few years have the power any decent laptop; maybe more powerful in some cases. These can run $250-$600US, which some argue you can get a cheap Chromebook or laptop. The nice thing, when you upgrade your smartphone, you're "upgrading" the power of the "laptop". With NexDock, you can access the internals, which means, in theory, you can replace the battery. If true, it means you can keep/use the lapdock for years. I think YouTuber, JuanBagnell, does a good job explaining the pros and cons of lapdocks. He focuses on most people's everyday and most likely uses. He does not use the usual benchmarks; it's how certain programs actually perform. He has reviews of several Nexdock and Uperfect. YouTuber, ETA Prime, has some interesting reviews on some of them too; he is more gaming focused
You are going to want to read/watch information on Dex. It's one of the more "refined" desktop environments with smartphones. It's not like ChromeOS. Google hasn't only recently started to add a desktop environment to Android. It has a more Windows feel to it. Not apps play nice with it. Also realize, this is Android based. Thus, you're not going to be able to use Windows or MacOS applications. It has to be Andriod applications. Some apps have incorporated the desktop environment. Others not so much so they can look weird. Some applications are designed not to work in the desktop environment. On a side note, you don't have to use to Dex. There is an option to mirror your phone.
If it wasn't for a few specific Windows-based applications, I could literally ditch the home PC. This is why my home PC is very small and not a powerhouse. I recently upgraded to a Minisforum with Ryzen 9 integrated H6800 GPU from the NUC11. The GPU was an issue with a couple of applications I run and was starting to get annoying.

Looking for this answer too, did you find which DP version S23 Ultra usb-c port supports? 1.4?
I don't think the S23 is purely dependant on the USB C adapter being HDMI or not. There are USB C to DP adapters. I think it's more, does the hub support the output of the S23 into a DP signal that the display will accept.
The VGA thing, that will probably require another adapter since you're going to need to change a digital signal to analog. I haven't checked in quite some time, but you may have some luck finding an adapter with HDFury. I used them a long time ago for HDMI to Component video (RGB). It may be kind of pricey.
