Ridiculous battery drainage. - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I have noticed (forced to notice) that the battery drains incredibly fast. First I thought it was a problem of the battery itself but reading a forum from Spain (I speak Spanish as first language) I learned that many people have the same problem. This appeared some time ago, I think from the last software update (v20e). Are you experiencing this problem? Has any of you figured it out? Thanks!!

I have the same problem, i have a 20-30% drain/hour

Use wakelock detector, and/or experiment with kernel setting apps, like ex kernel manager (If you dont know what youre doing, than just try some different governors, CPU frequencys and IO schedulers)
Uninstall unneeded apps, freeze some apps with titanium, heres a list of some apps you can freeze https://m.imgur.com/gallery/joPDj
You can even try and disable fastboot (Hidden settings menu) if you use 3G https://youtu.be/O8L50sCY7CI hope I could help
Or, read a tip of a reddit member (gen10) in this link https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg5/comments/6fhqsr/tmobile_h830_and_phone_idle/

This is totally abnormal - I have 0.3% per hour when the phone is idling.
You have something installed which prevents your phone from sleeping. Check with Better Battery Stats or GSAM Battery Monitor. Or perform a factory reset.
Or root your phone and debloat it.

- factory reset/full wipe
- Flash again ROM and also tried different ROMs with different bases
- Used different kernels
- used ODIN to put original firmware
everything was unsuccessfull... i dont know what to think anymore
never happend before and i tried really a lot of different ROMs..

How did you check that is not entering deep sleep?
Did you restore/reinstall your apps before checking?
If you used BetterBatteryStats you can view what is waking up you device and how often/long.
If you didn't restore your apps then I don't have any idea what is going on. If you did probably one of them is at fault and you should get a tool to check which is. If you don't want to buy an app like the one mentioned before you could remove recent installed apps one by one and check if the problem in gone.

BetterBatteryStats is available free to XDA members here.
You can also still buy it from Google Play to support the developer, which is what I did.
well I could see no deep sleep using CPU spy but ot was the only app I installed, to avoid other apps to interfere...
no deep sleep at all.... 200Mhz instead of deep sleep...
Just checking bbattery stats...
The most using in "partial wakelocks" is "PhoneWindowManager.mBroadcastWakelock" .. what is it?.. no app istalled but CPUspy and Bbattery stats

There's one app or device calling for a wakelock and due to a possible malfunction it doesn't get released. My programming skills are very limited, maybe there's something wrong with the hardware itself, maybe try disabling Wifi and your GPS module and observe BetterBatteryStats.

Thanks for answer ... hope no hardware failure but i fear it is... i deep cleaned my S3 but problem still here
I have been having the same problem on my S3, running an unmodified, non-rooted factory stock ROM.
I've done a full factory reset a few times with no improvement, although I am guilty of not running without any downloaded apps to eliminate that variable.
I did manage to make this problem go away for a few days and get normal awake time vs. screen on time ratios. PhoneWindowManager.mBroadcastWakeLock even disappeared from BetterBatteryStats' Partial Wakelocks list, instead of being at the top of this list as the worst offender by a large margin.
This happened after I "disabled" a number of unwanted, seemingly safe to disable built-in apps using Settings/Application Manager/All. I first had to uninstall any updates that had loaded over the built-in apps I was trying to disable, since the Uninstall Updates button replaces the Disable button. After that, most of these built-ins then gave me a choice to disable, although some ended up with a disabled Disable button once updates were uninstalled. Those that didn't have a disable option were allowed to redownload their updates, if any.
While the Google Play Books and Google Play Movies & TV apps were re-enabled right away (my guess is that the Google Play Store app re-enabled them, but there could be some other safeguard doing so), the other built-ins that allowed me to disable them stayed disabled.
At this point, I'm not sure why this problem has returned.
Because I didn't log which apps I ended up disabling, I can't tell if one re-enabled itself as the Google apps did. I tend to doubt that this is the case; if an app was going to do this, I doubt it would wait beyond the first reboot at the latest to do so.
Since I haven't downloaded any apps to cause PhoneWindowManager.mBroadcastWakeLock to suddenly resume keeping my phone awake, all that I can think of is either an automatically downloaded update or a changed setting.
The most significant setting change that I made before this problem resume was in BetterBatteryStats (purchased version). I had previously not enabled the watchdog settings, and had recently turned them on. (One benefit of having done that is getting Kernel Wakelocks captured for the first time since moving from Gingerbread on a Droid X to ICS on my Galaxy S3.)
This isn't a "phantom" problem in reported awake time only. While this problem was fixed, I had very noticeably improved battery life.
As much as I hate factory resetting my phone, and would hate even more not having my usual stable of apps loaded for a while, I may be forced into doing some organized research and experimentation if nobody else comes up with a fix.
I hope the above helps shed some light on what is happening so that we can get rid of this problem.
BTW: Any suggestions of what tests should be included if I decide to do a deep dive on this?
Any and all help with this problem is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Simcha-Yitzchak Lerner

Do you think it cold be an hardware issue?
Maybe i could try to unroot my device and root it back?
Any other ideas?

Just another consideration...
If i enable airplane mode deepsleep works...
?..
Really first time i face such a strage problem and i ha ve ISEF and flashed hundred of roms on a lot of devices
May be a solution ...
Hi everyone,
I got the same problem for a long time : phonewindowmanager.mbroadcastwakelock (seen on better battery stats) and no more deep sleep
or sometimes my phone was in deep sleep and another time it did not. I wasn't able to know exactly why ...
May be you'll think my solution is a little bit 'funny' but I'm convinced that my case is guilty !
I explain myself ...
I got a Sena Case made in real good leather and it fits perfectly to the SGS3 ... so perfectly that when I listen to music, the 'Volume Down' button
is 'pressed' by the side of this pouch and it's not possible to listen music anymore 'cause volume goes down to zero ...
And I fortuitously I made the connection between those 2 facts this morning : when my phone is out the pouch, no more partial wakelocks due to phonewindowmanager.mbroadcastwakelock ! And it goes normally in deep sleep mode.
I tested it by another way : I noticed the time spent in partial wakelocks, I put the phone in standby and pressed the 'vol down' button : the time spent in wakelock of type "phonewindowmanager.mbroadcastwakelock" incresead !
Same thing without pressing the volume button and no wakelock ...
My conclusion is that my Sena case continually press this button and causes those wakelocks. Since this morning (from 6.30 to 11.30) battery is at 77% ... Usually, it was between 50 and 60 % max.
Sorry for my poor english and all the mistakes I made.
I don't know if my experience could help someone .. let me know !

Wakelock questions

Hi, I have a few questions regarding various wakelocks that I hope somebody will be able to advise on. Whether they are normal or not Im not sure.
I'm in the UK, my phone is a standard GS3, ie not routed or anything. I had battery life problems but have used Better Battery Stats and GSAM Battery Monitor and found the problem so now all is well and the battery is lasting exceptionally well indeed.
Whilst spending hours finding the original battery drain problem and removing the rogue apps, I came across these and just wondered; are they normal, is there anything I can do to improve them?
1) Android system - Seems to be causing quite a lot of wake locks, particularly running a lot are the Accelerometer, gyroscope & light. What exactly are they, and is it normal for them to be running a lot and cause wakelocks?
2) Facebook - I have turned sync frequency and notifications to 'Never' within the app, and set to not sync contacts, yet its still always in my list of running applications and causing wakelocks. Why? Is that normal, and what can I do to stop it? I only want it to turn on and refresh when I use it (very rarely) - which is what I have set it to. But it keeps running and starting itself even after I force stop it.
Thanks, John
Anybody able to advise? Particularly point 1) above.
John

1) Can you post here the "Dump" file from BetterBatteryStats ? You can generate it with BBS > Options > Dump to file
2) Facebook is known to drain battery with background daemon and services. Try using another Facebook'apps even if it's not the genuine one.
Isnt' cross-posting generally not allowed?
Thanks lelinuxien52, yes I will do that.
Szadzik, what do you mean by cross-posting?

Ahh just googled it, yes sorry I didn't realise.

Battery Drainage Problem

I have a pretty bad battery drainage problem. Multidp and 12_hsic wakelocks are prevalent. The most noticeable is the Phone app waking up the most.
Steps I've taken to combat the High battery drainage
Disabled Fast Dormancy
Greenified Facebook, Playstore, PlayBooks and Keep
All but contacts and chrome are checked under the autosync settings
Even tried apps like Juice Defender, but the battery drainage increased to a whole new level; deleted the app
Installed a custom kernel. Undervolted by -50mv
ROM: CrDroid
Kernel: Temasek Kernel
P.S Tried the BetterBatteryStats thread, but no one did help me there. :/ Hope I solve my problem here. Attached the idle dump.
Thanks in advance.

The Problem is The ROM , not the Phone.
Android 4.3 isn't optimized for S3 yet .
That causes Battery Drain Problems.
My Recommendation is that you search another 4.3 ROM or Downgrade to 4.2.2 or lower.
Previous post is wrong.
Your two first kernel wakelocks mean network use. Search for background sync apps, check Wi-Fi advanced settings and disable Google constant search.
Greenify all apps, except the vital ones for your usage. With paid app and xposed framework you can even freeze push message ones.
All this can be found in a couple of minutes with Google.
Some can achieve .2 %/hour in deep sleep with 4.3.
The Rom is not the culprit.
You wont get good battery life on IDLE on AOKP, AOSP or CM ROMs. No matter what you do. battery life is ok while the phone is awake but when it is in deepsleep still it consumes the battery on AOKP, AOSP or CM ROMs.

Yes i know AOSP,AOPK & CM don't have as good an idle drain as the touchwiz ROMs, but in my case we do know the reason. So it has to some other reason

Already had Google constant search disabled. And 4.3 is not xposed framework compatible. So can't use that.
And I have disabled background syncing except for chrome and contacts. It's the phone app waking up that's probably the culprit

I use xposed framework... It's compatible.
2.1.4 apk framework works well. Some people need to use SuperSu instead of super user, you can put it with a file explorer in system/app, then reboot and run, there is even a cwm zip somewhere to flash the framework directly.

Yes I know it's just 1.1% but you gotta see that this is just an idle drain. When I start using the phone on day to day basis, it doesn't even last the whole evening let alone the whole day. I'm down to 20% by mid afternoon when i unplug my phone at 8 A.M. .
Whereas when I was on stock, as the people above have said, my battery drain was around .4% and the phone used to last around a day and a half with moderate usage. Yes I know that I can never have that good a battery, but atleast I should be able to eliminate most of the wakelocks with this ROM. But the typical methods like disabling FD, greenifying apps etc etc don't seem to work.

I am on omega rom series 8.1.AOKP
My battery doesnt last a day anymore.
Phone is way faster than stock, but battery sucks.
Are there NO AOKP/CM/AOSP roms that have more stability and better juice at all?

CM11 Anormal Battery Drain + Fixes !

/!\FOUND ONE FIX FOR SCREEN OFF BATTERY DRAIN - BOTTOM OF THE POST/!\
Hello, and thank you for reading my thread.
1. Introducing of me and my problem
I am the proud owner of a SGS3, but I'm not english so excuse my poor level of speaking. Hope you can understand me. My problem may seem quite familar, but after hours of reading I still did not find anyone with the same problem than me (I read on german, french and english - especially XDA - forums without any actual answer). Like I allready said I have a SGS3 but I had a SGS2 and a Note 1 before. Being a "Flash-addict", and tired of TouchWizz, I flashed a lot of roms, and of course CM. And here is the problem : on every CM installation I have I have terrible battery issues. Here you may think "Pfff... another n00b who didn't read the fu***** manual. (RTFM -- joke -- understood ?) So let's introduce part II :
2. My config'
If my problem is in a new thread and not in a general "Problem" thread, it is because it seems very 'unique' to me. I have :
- GPS totally off (localisation OFF in settings)
- WiFi constant refreshing OFF too
- NFC and AndoBeam OFF even if I read it has no impact on battery life
- I ALWAYS enter multi-tasking and close all apps
- WiFi and Data OFF (Data always OFF because I only have 50MB of mobile internet / month (Viva la france !) - WiFi only ON at home )
- Brightness on AUTO
- CPU governor on 'PEGASUSQ' or 'POWERSAVE' depending on usage
- Talking about usage :
- SMS and Facebook
- Apollo (sorry but I can't live without a7x or black sabbath)
- Bash (u know that weird app that eats your time)
- Internet via Chrome or default browser (at home)
- That's all (+ some games at home)
3. What I have tried
On SGS2 :
- Buying a new battery (talking about battery do you know how do be 1000000% sure you have an original battery ? Some people say about the 'Made in Taiwan / Made in Korea" etc... but I have friends why an original SGS4 w/ battery made in Korean and some w/ battery made in Japan...)
On GN :
- Buying a new battery
On SGS3 (my current one, as you may guess)
- I read it is better not to use Titanium Backup so I tried without (sooooooo long restoring all apps from Play Store)
- I read extSDcard can cause problems so I put it away - do you know where you can unmount extSDcard in CM settings ? I know this option exists in TouchWizz based roms.
- I tried all the placebo solutions like wiping battery stats and so on...
- I installed Boefla (sorry for misspeling) Kernel and used an "Extreme Battery Yank" presset.
- Always upgrading to last CM Nightly (and re-flashing Boeffla Kernel)
- Flashing Mods for battery life
- See last part for SCREEN OFF fix !!!
4. Extra Notes :
- I have no battery issues on Stock ROMs and most of Sammy based roms
- I use a 1A battery charger, Samsung Official or very well done Chinese Export
- I have an extBattery with 2A charging possibility if needed.
- I really enjoy CM11 and really wanted to use it as daily-usage ROM (and not another KK rom like SuperNexus)
- My phone heats a little bit more than on Sammy Roms
- Current Widget says my battery status is Good (not dammaged battery)
- Oh and I have the stock 2100 mAh Battery
Best stats reached : ~5 % in one night (pretty good for me) and 3% in 30 minutes video with Wifi on, samsung headsets, AUTO brightness, PowerSaving governor and synchronisation and all the stuff off.
When playing games like "Worms 2 Armaggedon" or just watching videos on YouTube in HQ by charging the phone with my 1A charger, the battery level does not move (+1 % per 40 minutes)
Thank you for reading my thread and being so awesome in modding our devices !
Edited : Solutions found
Applied this solution (from Reddit) :
After much experimentation, I realized that it is not GP services app itself that is causing the wakelocks, it's the google search app pinging the GP services app for location all the time! Especially now with the Google now launcher, google search app is always or almost always active. This setup seem to create excessive wakelocks for NlPCollectorWakeLock from the google search app (Google Now), which in turn shows up as GP services wakelocks.
The solution is to take away 2 permissions: the Google search app permissions to keep the device awake, and access location. This gets rid of the wakelocks, and still appears to keep google now etc. functional. You can do this using App Ops from the play store (needs root), or if you are on custom ROMs, through "App Privacy" menu setting. Additionally you could also turn off location history and reporting, to be on the safe side. Google Now still works, but now without the wakelocks!

another method for same fix is this one :
I know a great fix, if this can get to the top it will help a lot of people. It requires the Xposed framework and the module Wakelock Terminator. The free version lets you block 1 app, and that's all we need. Open up Wakelock Terminator, choose to block Google Play services, and filter it with the following: NlpCollectorWakeLock NlpWakeLock CheckinService NetworkLocationLocator

Here is an additional fix (thanks to ivek81cro)
Ok, i did what post said and it didn't help, then i went into Privacy guard and set deny for Keep awake for Android system. Phone then cooled down and battery drain stopped. I didn't notice that anything else changed on phone (i think i didn't messed up anything with that). Today i returned permissions to default and all is ok now, no bat. drain or heating up.

I will upload images and links as soon as I am authorized
After this "fix", I had my phone SCREEN OFF two hours without loosing any percentage, with GSM on, WiFi, BT and NFC off. (just like during night)
Still looking for solutions for SCREEN ON, will tell you !
I also have the battery problems. No matter what I do it still drains fast. When I use original 1amp charger and do something on phone my battery actually dies while charging... No idea on what's going on

Battery Draining Very High When Phone is Idle

Hello Guys,
My rn3pro battery drainage is very high, it consume 20% of battery overnight. I have been having these problem from few days. I am just ignoring it, but the problem really irritates when you fully charged your phone and after using leave it on 80% and at the morning you found 60% and with open data it 58% i mean 2-3% difference. First i get this problem on miui 6.12.+ And then i use 7.1 rr unofficial and official both give me this problem and then because of no xposed i revert back to miui and now evey ver of miui has this problem, high battery drainage overnight. Then i think flashing kernel would help, so i flashed radon latest but nothing helps.
So, guys pls help me and this is happening from past few days and i have been using rn3 pro from 6 months neverhave that kind of problem. Never get the need to use apps like greenify, and when i checked battery status it shows android system and android as the culprit, but why now, why not before or from 6 months ago when i bought it. I am really irritated.
Anyone.......guys?
Try using naptime in the playstore had good results. Use kernel wakelock detector to see what's using your battery

First of all try to find a reason why battery is draining. if you are experiencing drain on every rom then there might be a common personal app you used on all of them. If you are rooted then download "better battery stats" app and leave it for over night, it will tell you which app or wake lock is draining battery , for better understanding post screens of battery usage so that we could analyze it further. One thing is sure it must be a downloaded app, sucking battery overnight.
Also there are various settings to overcome battery usage of heavy apps such as google services. always deny location permission of app in privacy / permission settings. it will save atleast 15-20 % of total battery usage. further control autostart on apps like uc browser, clock , calendar as they too start in background and suck power,(p.s. uc browser is worst)

It's clearly seen that UcBrowser eat your battery. 2.5/hr is good though, and something was downloading about 1.3 hr in Uc thats why it was running in background. If you are using xposed then go for greenify, It is very effective. Other way is, as you are on custom rom, I would suggest you to try custom kernel if you want more battery backup (I am on rr-N and radon kernel, getting around 10 hrs SOT).

You dont understand bro (i know you do) but the thing is it never happened before and i always use uc browser. Last night when i installed this app i am downloading something and i fell asleep when i woke up in middle of the night then i close my data connection. But as i said before i am on miui 6.12.xx using radol kernel latest (i think it is 3.7), why uc browser is eating battery why not before is something wrong with the hardware or restoring backup from titanium cause it or anything else, the reason why this happening now. Bro in deep sleep i never lose more than 3% of battery power in whole night and now this percentage increased upto 10 times. And i always use uc browser, because of its downloading and site view. But it never sucked that kind of battery before after putting it on download al the night and miui force closes apps itself. And not only miui it happened on every custom rom i installed now a days.

So you had restored titanium backup of nougat to marshmallow or vice-versa? Some time it cause app crashing and many problems. Just try clean flash custom rom and select battery config in aroma installer of radon kernel. Then see if problem still persist. Or just donot restore titanium backup and clean install UC and see how mush it help. (Same to me, my CM13 Apps backup caused many problems in RR-N so after clean flash all well right now)

Thats what came to my mind. I am thinking restoring titanium backup causing uc or may be other apps to suck battery. Because it all started when i start restoring titanium backup. Now i will clean flash the rom. But one thing i wanted to know, does restoring only data from titanium will cause the same results?

Never tried this, but that should not cause any problems as in my case when I restored whole backup and faced app crashing problems was due to installed apk.

Clean flashed the phone at night, after putting alarm the battery reduces hardly 2-3% in whole night. But after installing uc battery started to increase faster and i love uc browser cant uninstall it.
no one is asking you to uninstall uc browser bro
download greenify and hibernate all apps before you go to sleep and go to security->permission->autostart and check that uc browser is not enabled
i am sure this will solve ur battery draining problem
Install fastboot rom latest beta and use it for 2 day and set it up... And then check
Guys i think i catched the culprit. There is an app in my phone named easydpichanger i use it to change my display dpi. When i got 7.x in my phone i changed it dpi to smallest i.e 336 and in miui used it on 330, and when i change it to 400 it stops eating battery (as default dpi is 480 which is way larger on a big screen). Now i am getting good battery backup
Thanks everybody.
Why do you use app for changing dpi?
Why not change in build.prop?
360dpi is HD , 480 is stock FHD

Bro why should i mess up with build.prop when i can do it with just single click
Use easydpichanger
Bro why would you need app for that if you can do that in build.prop...you are just wasting space + dpi changer is not as effective
Just add last line ro.sf.lcd_density=
