System root on nougat - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't found a way to get system root on surnia xt1526. I've searched and I've done trial and error. I've been a member for years and this is my 1st post cause I try to teach my self. But every attempt I've made at getting system root fails 1 way or another. When I use system less root, I can't interact with the system partition the way I'm used to. Something always, eventually, messes up my phone. So if someone knows where to point me, id truly appreciate it. Sorry of this seems obvious to some but I've been trying for a while.
Thanx

Have you tried system SuperSu?

Yes, I have tried it. It didn't work. But it's been awhile. I see that they have newer versions that I'm going to try. Thanx. I forgot about this.

I just tried it yesterday and it won't boot with system root. I hadn't tried it in a while for that reason.

No OS Installed. Stuck In Bootloop. Offering Donation To Helper.

Hey people.
I rooted my ANDROID HTC ONE from T mobile, using a guide I found on here and the all in one toolkit.
I am using TWRP newest 2.5.0.0, I can access the bootloader and recovery, and have been sat here now looking for answers for about 5 hours.
It freezes on the HTC quietly brilliant screen.
Also says that there is no OS installed.
I am looking for help via TEAMVIEWER, or someway to get my phone working.
If you need more information please let me now ASAP so I can give it you.
UPDATE: Okay people I successfully installed the XenonHD ROM and it is now stuck in bootloop i have tried clearing the cache and it doesn't do anything, this is the only ROM that is currently working.
I have searched the net searched the post and still nothing.
I am almost got my phone back guys and am willing to DONATE or repay the favour via modding something through XBOX or whatever I can.
Please contact me soon as possible.
I am still on TEAMVIEWER.

There have been a lot of posts on similar issues. You can "sideload" a ROM via ADB commands from your computer. If you can get into recovery, your phone can be fixed. I haven't done this myself (still stock), but do a search on google or xda on sideloading a ROM from ADB.

Did you clear the cache? Also, I've seen some people have to format the partitions.
EDIT: But formatting does not seem to be needed if you sideloaded successfully.

Sorry, I've not even rooted my phone, and I would not want to use your device as a learning tool. Let me look around and see if I can find a nandroid backup.
EDIT: Nope, I don't see one. Try opening a thread requesting a nandroid back for your recovery.

You have to be careful with No o.s installed .
Normally if u reboot when u see that you'll brick.
Without a o.s you have no bootloader..
I bricked my s3 and had to jtag it when it said no o.s I rebooted and black blank screen nothing.
I've had this happen also when choosing format system and format data /media some reason it botches the boot up .
My only fix was to sideload a rom or wipe factory and restore a nandroid .

my recomendation is that you get s -off and supercid asap so next time you run into a similar problem you can just install any ruu(note only do this if your phone has no official ruu) and work it out from there.

What you need to do is this exactly .
Dload a rom on pc reboot recovery on phone first .IMORTANT FIRST FORMAT SYSTEM.
Then when that's done choose factory reset.
Rename the rom to Rom.zip or anything you want but make sure it says.zip
Sometimes sideload won't work if roms not renamed , that's mentioned in another thread about sideloading.
Then sideload the rom
Let it load and install .
When it reboots itl take a while .
I just did this to my HTC one the other day after I got stuck after formating data media .

Yeah my phone is currently working now, but I have no play store nor do I now if my phone is rooted.
I have a custom ROM on it XenonHD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290785
That one.
Just currently trying to get to grips on how to work it and that.
I can't download the playstore because it says it is currently installed but it is nowhere to be seen.

Phone Info:

Ok, I tried Rooting my Phone and I use the Soft Root that was linked by someone on the forums. Gave me SuperUser Icon and used a app that checks to see if its Rooted and said it was. Now tried using some Root app's like GameCih and it tells me I need Root Admin or Root Privileges, something to that nature, and cant use the app. Iv been trying to remove that Soft Root but cant Figure it out. Used Odin3 and redid that .tar file for my Build. All when good and got everything the same as a fresh phone, but booting up still has the Pad Lock Icon and Custom logo on it and SuperU Icon. So I cant seem to unroot it, Tried to use the I545ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL posted on these forums but cant get it to working.
So what I need so to get this unrooted and back to factory default, and Rooted the right way, with I545ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL??. Please Help

That is what I used is the Saferoot, wasnt sure of the name, but just looked it up and thats what i have on my pc. Also I dont know how to flash it.. do I use the same Odin3 program for that? or is there another method.(Also is the Full wipe a different tar file?)
Edit: Ok I got it Flashed and back to stock now is there anything other then SafeRoot? that did not work the first time I tried it.

There are a few other methods...but I don't know them...I do know the other methods safety and security was questionable... Hence saferoot was made by trusted devs here...it should work...all the posts I have seen said they got successful root...did you open the supersu app that was installed and allow it to update binaries?... That is a very important step...if you did then make sure if you try this method again you follow each step it tells you...I don't know exactly how the process goes as I'm on4.2.2 and have to use the all in one tool for root...good luck...if it doesn't work hopefully someone who can help will chime in

Nope, I have no idea what these applications do, but a quick search on the forums basically leads to the conclusion that they're not ready for 4.3.
Given the build you're running, you're stuck with SELinux Enforcing since you can't replace the kernel. You'll need to find something else to do whatever you're trying to do.

[Q] FAILED (remote: data length is too large)

Hi Internet,
I was trying to flash Android M on my Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi only) today and ended up with errors such as: "system.ui has stopped working" or "android.process has stopped" because I wanted to see if I actually needed to do a factory reset for it to work properly (turns out I do). After that I've tried again and have run into some issues.
Firstly, after that Android M wasn't flashing at all and I have decided to abandon the idea of M and just go back to Lollipop. Now, I am trying to flash 5.1.1 and I keep on getting FAILED (remote: data length is too large) error when flashing my system partition. I'm flashing everything separately because if I try to do it as one image because I keep getting error: update package missing system.img errors. I have no trouble with flashing my bootloader and other partitions(boot, cache, recovery, etc), but that system partition just won't flash! I've tried 5.0, 5.1, 5.1.1 and I keep on getting these errors.
I have no idea what to do. Please help. I've spent the last 5 hours trying to figure it out and nothing has yet came up. I'm using a Mac, but I don't see how this might be causing an issue.
If you have any valuable information - please help!
I'm very comfortable with flashing and ROMs, in fact I've updated my N5 to M in 5 min, but I've never seen this error before and have no idea how to fix. All I found out is that, I think, it only happens on HTCs...

I can't help you but I can tell you I had the same problem. After much frustration and many attempts to flash 5.1.1 it finally worked. I was ready to rma the device as I was sure something was wrong with it. Sorry I can't be more help as getting it to work was so random.

No,I used the factory image from Google. There were a number of times I got the image to flash, I flashed images separately, but got boot loops even after factory resets. Even got it to boot a couple of times but couldn't sign into Google. Wi-Fi would keep resetting and bring me back to the Google sign in. I'm still not convinced that there isn't something wrong with the device, bad nand? But it's working now. I haven't tried to flash anything since.

I'm pretty sure that the device is fine. I flashed images before and had no problems at all.
If you haven't already, make sure nothing is running in the back ground on your pc that might be using ram. The complete system image has to load into ram and it's a pretty big file.

You might have already tried this too, but re-download the factory image, check it's md5, then extract it. Might be a bad download or extraction. Then follow the long method in this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/general/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-flash-t3035153

Yeah, I've tried all of that. Also checked MD5 and it matches to the one on the website. The only thing I could think of is bad extraction. Will try another unarchiver.

Your Android SDK (fastboot) probably needs to be updated. Depending on how old it is, Google updated the SDK and fastboot to allow flashing these very large system.img files in early November, 2014.

Yes! It worked! Turns out I was using this outdated fastboot file which wasn't allowing flashing newer system partitions. Fun fact: outdated fastboot file worked with N5, but didn't work with N9. Anyway, I updated my SDK though Android Studio and everything flashed perfectly. Many thanks to cam30era and jd1639.

No OS on Lenovo P2a42

I was trying to root my Lenovo P2a42 with TWRP and SuperSU V2.76 but then something went wrong and it wouldn't boot up. I then did an advanced wipe and wiped everything using TWRP and now I have no OS, although I can go into TWRP and the Bootloader. Whenether I try to boot up I get the Bootloader. Now I just want to get it back to normal, I have no backups (Cuz I'm dumb). Please help, thanks in advance.

Yeah I fixed it a few weeks back. I did an advanced reset again then got a stock ROM zip transferred from my pc to my lenovo then flashed it with TWRP. Worked just fine although OTAs no longer work (Too happy to care).
Now, I still want to root my device... If you find a way that works could ya let me know? Thanks.

Please post how things went - especially if you are rooted (?), as its easy to end up unrooted at times.
OTA is failing for me after unrooting. I also restored the latest restore.img from the relevant thread before I attempted to update.
Anyone with root able to get OTA installed?

I have not updated, but it will continue after rebooting - is there any way to stop it ?

The update was already downloaded to my phone, but did not attempt to install until I started it manually.

I am not so worried about rerooting if it is necessary, but am very worried about getting wiped. How did yours come out ?

Did you have to unroot before updating ?
Never-mind had to unroot it would not work otherwise. But still wont finish - maybe because i may still have a different then stock kernel even though I unrooted.

You need to unroot, and also make sure you have the reserve.img partition restored. If you unlocked the bootloader after the .27 OTA, reserve.img is deleted during unlock.

Will this cause a wipe ? If so, will wait for a bigger update.
I'm not currently rooted, so my results won't matter too much atm

All I have to do is to not screw up, and after having been on Samsungs since S3, where most things were straight forward and relatively easy, there is a good chance I will.
Will be doing more reading - wish there was a guide like the unlocking and rooting of the US TMo guide thread.

It's very simple, and the script does most of the work. All you have to do is hit Enter a few times, and let it run.
Back up your data to be safe, and worse case scenario, there is an MSM tool available that will restore the phone to stock.

Is there a better backup than Google Drive for data - was so easy with TWRP ?

Use Google Drive backup, but you should first temporarily turn off your password/fingerprint authentication. That's the only way to ensure a complete backup is run. That's been an issue with Google device backup as a whole since 9.0 began enforcing encryption on backups.
You can turn it back on as soon as the backup completes.
One thing I've noticed already on this update is idle battery drain with 5G enabled (connected or not) has improved dramatically.
I would suggest that anyone who re-roots after makes sure to use a freshly patched kernel pulled after the update.
