On the fence about getting another N6P - Nexus 6P General

I had a used N6P a while ago but it went into the dreaded bootloop of death. I went back to my trusty N6 but It's really starting to show it's age...
I have been contemplating about buying another N6P but I don't want to waste the money again for it to go into another bootloop. What do you guys suggest?

Wouldn't buy a used 6P due to potential bootloop and battery issues. I'd try to get a new 6P at good price or look at other options. Have you considered the OnePlus 3T? It's a very good phone and reasonably priced.

Hmm I was considering a OnePlus device... What about a normal 3? Is the "T" significantly better?

3T better if you can

Ok, bit the bullet and bought a 3T. Was on the fence about this device for a while but meh, just wanting to move on from my N6.
Thanks guys.

The 3T is a solid upgrade mainly due to the bigger battery. Slight bump in performance from SD 821 and 128 GB option is also nice. I've had the 3T for about 2 months and can't really complain about anything.

Good call! My 6p has been getting realllllly hot lately now that the weather is warming up, it is a little concerning

i love the 6p.
but i got my new, and thankfully have not got any issues with it , used it for around 9months now i think.
if you can get one in New condition, then get it by all means.
but if not, then go with a op4 /moto any other smartphone that comes with a good chip and stock android.

Whew hew!! I just wanted to see the thing longer than 2 minutes... glad he booted it up and showed a few things at least!
I'm not much for unboxing, but at this point I'll take anything showing this badboy Nexus6 P!
Lol, that was a second unboxing.
That phone booted up with an unlocked bootloader? Is that normal? lol.

From what I know, this was at a Google event in India. He doesn't have the phone for personal use. This was probably a shared unit that Google gave to the press so they could have an "unboxing video" for the public. You can even see the seal is broken before he starts to open it.

I called Google and spoke to the rep because I ordered a graphite 128gb Sep 30th and my card is still missing the money after 13 days now and the lady says they are sold out of that model so I need to wait until they build more wtf...Google really if you didn't have the phone why was I able to order it. Then she said we didn't expect to sell this many, so you expected to do bad.
He may have got the phone because he said he opened it previously to making the video. I asked about that and she some third party vendors may have got them already. I'm lost with how they go about selling these phones makes no sense.

not really...... the 6 is 159.26mm and the 6P is 159.30mm.... So 0.04mm isnt much
Yes but the 6P has a smaller screen and is still taller. I had the 6 it was a massive phone and i got rid of it pretty quick. Hoping the 6P has a better /more manageable feel. As of now i have the 5x and 6p ordered so ill wait to pass judgment.
In all the details I've seen when in hand it looks very manageable!

Pretty much anyone that's held one said it feels smaller and easier to hold over the 6

You can go handle a iphone 6s plus or 6plus....the dimensions are nearly identical to the 6P:
Iphone 6S Plus (158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm ) vs Nexus 6P (159.3 x 77.8 x 7.3 mm).
Height: 6P is 1.1mm Taller
Width: 6P is 0.1mm narrower
Thickness: Same

Nexus 6P to Nexus 6 - Am I Crazy?

I had the 6 and then jumped on 6P from day one. Took me couple months to sell my 6 and now regret that decision and looking to buy the white version on eBay.
There is something special about Nexus 6 that I can NOT get out of my system. I have never looked back after an upgrade. Nexus 6P is a great phone but I have no clue why I'm not feeling it. If it was not for the camera, I would have been back on 6 a long time ago.
Anyone out there left their 6P to go back to Nexus 6?

I still have both but gravitate more towards 6P because of fingerprint scanner, better camera and ever so slightly smaller footprint. But they are both my favorites.

Can't go wrong with either.
Used it off and on for a year. If I didn't break it I probably would still be using one. Only wish google would have made some use of the extra screen size.

I was just using these phones interchangeably for the past two days and
1) Nexus 6 plastic back just feels so bad in comparison to the 6P metal
2) The 6P screen is so much better than the Nexus 6, it's very noticeable when you look at them side by side

The problem with number 1 point is cases. 6P feels so delicate that a case is a MUST. one dropped and it will look ugly as hell if not totally broken. I never had a case on my Nexus 6.
Well I personally never use cases on any of my phones, I chose a color that I liked because I it want to see it. They worked hard on making it look good so I don't want to hide their hard work.
The Nexus 6 is a nice device but you have to consider that Android N will be the last official update for it. If you don´t care about it and will use a Custom ROM anyway, go for it.
I did not like the 6 very much. Too wide to hold for me, screen and camera were sub par. The 6p fixed all that for me.

All good points guys. Maybe cause Nexus 6 was my 1st ever Nexus. My 1st pure Android true love lol. I can't let go regardless of the fact that I'm typing this with my 6P.
I was not a big fan of the Nexus 6. Vibration sucked, phone felt too big (6P feels good in hand), and I just did not like the design at all. It is a whole different story with the 6P and it looks even sexier with a skin on. Best phone I've ever had.

Why I Got A 2nd Nexus 6P...

So something was on my mind and I thought I would spill on XDA...
Im a phone junkie. Ive probably had most major flagship devices pass through my hands. But theres something about the 6P.
6 Months ago in May i got my first 6p. I am also a guy who has 2 phones. One to tinker and one to have as my daily driver. The year before i had bought a Moto X Style and I loved the device. Was bloody amazing! But the battery life didnt do it for me so decided to look to the future and went with a Nexus 6P. At that time my daily driver was the S7 Edge.
So August rolls around and the Note 7 is announced & released. The UK got it 2 weeks later than the US. Unfortunately I got rid of my S7 Edge for it while keeping my Nexus 6P. I was one of the unlucky people who got a Note 7 before it was recalled and subsequently had my Note 7 almost blow up on me. I got a replacement and very quickly I saw the Note 7 had been discontinued and the device had to be returned In replacement, I got a Iphone 7 256Gb which I lasted 36 hours with before I couldnt take it anymore and traded it to CEX.
So with my favourite series of devices recalled and with my change to a device that I couldnt get on with, I was in open market to buy a new phone. I had the choice between anything that CEX had Android wise. They even had a Moto Z on the day I went to see them, but heres why i decided to buy the Nexus 6P in 128Gb while still having my 32 Gb edtion.

These devices to me are still relevant in the market and im not bothered about the SD810 issues. My devices never run that hot. Plus add in the fact that I get unlimited tethering, these devices for me are why I love android. These kill the Iphone IMHO.
Congratz, one for each hand! they are classics!
I read the title and i was like "Well do enlighten me, why do you have two nexus 6P".
Not disappointed.
I actually though of a Samsung S7 when I went to buy my 6P, but the screensize wasn't what I expected (I wanted a bigger screen and the edges took some space off it one way or another), ended up with the 6P which was always my first considered choice.
I gotta ask though, why do you say the Note 7 almost blew up on you? Did you experience any problems that would suggest that would happen?

Long story but....
My N7 died on me randomly while i was using it... The software died. I tried flashing Custom Rom Nothing... TWRP would boot but would freeze
Used kies to restore software, but even that didnt work. My device then began emitting a burning smell. I managed to power down the device and make it safe..
I sent it Sammie after they got in contact with me, they sent out another device. Then the full recall happened a second time. I almost ended up like all those other devices you see burned out.
FWIW I call them the twins xd
First off, let me say I am a phone addict. Haha. In the last 11 months I have owned 4 Nexus 6P's. I keep coming back to them. Right now I have one along with my S7 edge. If the edge was a bit smoother, especially with a SD820, it would be a near perfect phone.
Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
I had a Note7 when it first launched and was very disappointed when I had to return it due to the recall. The one I received got so hot to the touch when charging I didn't want to take the chance of it exploding. I loved the phone but I went and got a 7 Plus as my personal phone instead. But I missed android and having owned and returned a Nexus 6P for the Note7 I decided I wanted it back. So when it came time to choose a work phone it was no question that I went for a 6P. The stock android experience is the best and I didn't realize how much I missed it until I got the 6P back in my hands.

I am thinking about 2nd hand Samsung S7, HTC 10 , OnePlus 3 , Pixel XL.
(I think my 6P battery start degraded.)
Its just an amazing device
I have an S7 Edge also and keep going back to the 6P. I love the screen on the S7E but the curved screen I keep touching with my fingers holding it and stuff goes haywire, It's maddening. I don't find the battery life on the S7E that great (as some do). I'm not a heavy user so it bothers me to drop 50-60% during the day when I've done virtually nothing with the device but some hangouts messages, texts and a couple conf calls. It will last all day, just bothers me draining that much with little use
I'm actually thinking of getting a second one. Maybe a 128gb version this time. I just look at the new pixel and I'm not excited. I was more intrigued by the HTC 10 to be honest.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA Labs
With the Pixels system software now available on the 6P and 7.1.1 running much better than 7.0 ,i find very little reason to splash out $1000 on a Pixel. The 6P is still very flagship at the end of 2016, it's still good for another year. If it had OIS it'd be perfect.

Hi guys,
This is my short story why I buy my a second Nexus 6P.
I killed my old Nexus 6P with 128gb in Turkey and I was from end January until August in Turkey. When I was back I think which phone I should buy. My favorites are the HTC 10 (HTC Boy since HTC Desire => M9, Oneplus3 and the Nexus 6p. OnePlus have no AOSP, the HTC 10 los the beautiful design with the fingerprint sensor at the front. Than I remember my old Nexus 6P and the nice community (thanks to all devs). Now I have bought a new Nexus 6P with 64Gb. Maybe next year a new HTC with fingerprint sensor on the back or the Pixel

Should I change to Oneplus 3t? I have battery issues.

I bought my 6P on January 2016, and started with the battery issue on November. I thought that was a software issue, and I restored factory settings a few times, but nothing worked. In my case, I have 80% of the issues when the battery goes to 15% ... and immediately shuts down. Also, sometimes when it's at 30%, 20%, 40% .... I have tried battery calibration... but nothing solved the problem. It's frustrating.
About the temperature....I live in Majorca (Spain) with temperatures between 10-25 degrees, so I think that, in my case, is not connected.
If I add that I have bluetooth issues with my car since I upgraded to 7.0 ... and sometimes I have echo during the calls .... Maybe my unit is wrong. Anyway, my general perception is that it is the best smartphone that I've ever had and I do not want to lose it.
I purchased my nexus with amazon prime, and I contacted them and they offered full refund (1 year later, amazon is amazing for me). I am considering to buy OnePlus 3T .... but I do not know if I can handle the camera quality lost or the audio difference .... The rest of things maybe the OP3T is better option ....
Do you think that, considering that the refund my money, is a good option to change to a Oneplus 3T?
Best regards,
:good:
P.D: i cannot buy Pixel XL because is not possible to buy it in my country, and I am not interested to add money this time.
Buy another 6P. Mine works well with 7.1.1.

I think that the OP3T now is a better option in terms of speed, hardware....and also, Oxygen OS seems to be a very good alternative (they also have good update policy).
But the camera...Nexus 6P is still one of the best smartphone cameras...S7 edge...I hate touchwiz...Pixel XL...too expensive and not available in my country...HTC 10 is too small.....So there are not many options with a very very good camera...

that's the point...
OP3T: better processor, more ram, better battery life, very good software, the best fingerprint sensor. Cons: camera quality far from the best cameras...
vs
Nexus 6p: nexus software, a little bit outdated hardware but working very smooth, stereo speakers....and one of the best cameras. Cons: battery issues, bluetooth issues (in my case).
Hi, sorry to hijack the thread but I also have the battery issue with mine...purchased in November 2015 from eBay seller who purchased from CPW. According to Huawei website the phone is still under warranty until December 2017. The phone's battery was absolutely atrocious with Android 7.0 update... It didn't last at all and regularly shut down suddenly at 50/60%...sometimes it reached 15/20% before it shut down!
I was running custom ROM then... However I've gone back to stock a few days ago and the battery life has considerably improved but unfortunately it shut down suddenly at about 20% today!!!
I'd like to know if I should be able to return the phone under warranty and who I can return to? Google, Huawei or CPW?
Thanks in advance.

CPW won't do anything and neither will Google because you didn't buy it from the Playstore. Huawei is your best bet but they're denying the problem and saying it's Google's fault.

Yeah, contact Huawei. They may or may not replace it though.
Dont waste time with huawei or google.go on eBay or Amazon and type in Cameron sino battery for nexus 6p ,buy it and pop it in. Profit
OnePlus 3/3T/5 have plenty of custom ROMs.
But I am not sure about Low light photo taken by them.
I saw some news website said about special edtion of OnePlus 5 on 2017 SEP 19.

Nexus camera is better
Nexus camera is awesome. I have said this before in several other threads. It is not that hard to replace a battery in a 6p. Go on eBay or Amazon and do a search for a Cameron sino battery.

When to move on...

If you had the money to get a new phone moving from the Nexus 6p. Would you go ahead and get a better phone or would you pay to get the screen repaired. Deciding to keep the phone instead. The community here, while it's been amazing seems to be dying as more devs and users alike move on to OP3T or Pixel. I'm seriously thinking about dropping down $459 for a OP3T. If you had the money would you go ahead and move to another phone?

Personally I don't like Pixel. It's mostly on principle--to me its the device that killed the Nexus line (and not by competing but just because Google decided to.)
Beyond that I don't know that the price tag justifies upgrading. Bump in hardware, but no stereo speakers and in terms of real performance I don't think the user is gaining much if he drops the 6p for Pixel. Of course this is just what Ive read but for the price difference Id want more.
I'm not really seeing the developer scene die the way you describe. Feels like Ive got more good choices in roms & kernels than I need.
If I were going to buy a new phone I might take a closer look at the OPO 3T. But Im happy with the 6p for now.
Oh no I never meant to postulate that I was upset with the Nexus 6P line. There have been a lot of issues lately with the hardware that have caused countless others to have bootloops and then faulty battery issue drains that have to be fixed by RMAing. Hoping to god you get back a phone of equal use. I have read that one user had such a problem. He sent in 6 6p's and they all had the same exact issue every time. This of course sounds absurd and highly inaccurate. I made my decision as I'm going go keep my 6p. I'm taking it to get the screen fixed tomorrow.

every device has life cycles, im sure as the device ages and price drops it'll be a very popular dev device because its a fairly high spec nexus device. a lot of popular devs buy almost every new device they like as it comes out. i wont be upgrading my 6p for another year or two, its very fast with f2fs and the other phones out atm arent a major improvement.
From one 6p user to another. Do you have any ideas where I can find a sturdy, streamlined case that protects both the glass and phone. I have a case, but it's rather bulky. I was using a skin when my phone shattered.

I just paid the deductible to have my phone replaced ($79). I think Huawei charges about double that for a screen replacement.
When Nexus Protect expires. I plan to pay the $140 for SquareTrade.
The 6p is long from outdated.
I believe that you should get a new phone between every 2-3 years.
On the status of my current 6P, or past devices, I've never damaged one of them before. My 6P did go dead once though... ?

I am looking for some new phone too.
(Also need some official custom ROMs like RR etc. on that phone.)
This may work!
I bought this one with a tempered glass protector. Not too bulky and comes up over the edges of the glass. It has worked for me so far.

I'm saving money to join op3t users. I'm really disappointed from Huawei support and I want to leave this device as soon as possible
I'm finding it difficult to leave the 6P. I used to be the guy that updated every yr but with the 6P I don't have that desire. It still feels snappy (most of the time) and it is very difficult for me to give up the stereo speakers. I don't know if I can go back to non-stock android. The camera speed was an issue for me but when I installed the Camera NX mod, it def made it more snappy. I'll reconsider again when I see what the Pixel 2 has to offer because the Pixel was not worthwhile for me, especially at that price but for now I am staying put.

I agree, while it may not be the nicest hardware, it is an all around solid performer and was a good price.
I have a few qualms with it, but in general I've been happy with it for sure. Definitely the best nexus phone that was released, especially when you factor in everything together.
I just bought a 6p, off of swappa so I hope development continues for long long time. I have now the ls990 lg g3, & there's a handful of ROMs, & back when the nexus 5 came out I had that, & development is still going on for that. So I am not worried. I know I'll never again touch an lg device, problems several times. So I can't wait for 6p to ship to me.

I just ordered a new phone, it's time to leave this stupid phone and sell it till it's still alive. I experienced the bootloop of death after 6 months i bought the phone, I "enjoyed" a really bad battery life and a really really bad support from Huawei. My phone has been in assistance for 3 months and i own it since 12... 25% of the time i used my old nexus 5. Is this a good experience? I don't think so! Huawei and Google are not going to see my money again. Enjoy your phone guys and remember, you will have problems with this phone, don't think you are immune.
Once the Pixel 2 xl or the pixel 2 xxl (since rumor of a third larger model) comes out I'll switch...

I use the Seidio Convert with a tempered glass screen protector. It's really solid and clean. Doesn't look like a suit of armor or something.
