Phone stopped after being dropped in the pool - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

Hello, So i had my Xperia X dropped in the pool, when my friend decided to "play" and check if it's waterproof phone, the slot was closed and the phone was protected with an external cover.
He dropped the phone and it hit the water, there was no water-shock or what so ever, it was a seamless hit without any shakes, so im pretty sure its not the reason the water got in.
I had the phone out after it went in, it was on for few seconds, and i put it outside then. A minute later, the phone went off and i just checked if it's 100% off, i went home and put it in the rice.
This was a week ago, now the phone is still not working at all, the water is pretty much out. When i put the phone in the charger, the red charging dot/light blinks every second, like it blinks and fades out and re-does the blinking...etc
I don't know if that means there's still water inside, or the phone needs to be opened and checked.
The most important thing is, i have important data on the phone, and if i send the phone to the customer support, the warrant won't cover it and pretty sure everything will be wiped out, Any suggestions for the blinking and does the support wipe everything or?

Hi!
Is the phone rooted and have TWPR ?
Dumme Sache...

Is it an Xperia X or Xperia X Performance?
I may be wrong but only the Performance model was advertised as being water resistant...

Normally the xperia x shouldn't die from water. But whats the depth and how much time did it spend?
The thing is, if water got in and STAYED in and then you tried to power it on, it may be fried. If you did not try to power it on at all untill making sure all the water is out it would be working I believe. Well if you are out of warranty I can't really recommend to open it but what other choice do you have?

[Q] Galaxy S 2 always thinks it's plugged into USB

I am pretty sure this is a warranty claim but I wanted to run it by the community. Excuse any poor typing I'm literally on a mountain right now.
I think some moisture got into the bottom port. My s2 always thinks it's plugged into a computer. I get samsung kies connection prompts when I get into the os and battery usage tracker shows the phone as charging when I look at usage with wild spikes up and down. Can't toggle USB dev mode because it always tells me to remove USB cable. Luckily I got a tibackup just a few days ago that I offloaded to my memory card.
When I power it down I immediately get the green battery showing it's charging. In a few seconds it starts flashing between that and a battery with a temperature gauge and a exclaimation point.
Only way to get her to turn on is by plugging into a power source and holding down power.
Did a factory reset same problem. Won't be able to reset the kernel till I get home in 10 days.
Any ideas or straight back to phones 4 u warranty claim? If water damage then insurance claim ( loved my baby. Thanks
mate please in case you returned it tell me if they accepted it. I have the SAME problem :|. please tell.
Get some rubbing alcohol solution (Isopropyl alcohol) from your local pharmacy.
Pour it into a bowl.
Remove the battery cover.
Remove the battery.
Dip your phone into the bowl, and swirl it around.
Place on an air conditioner to have the alcohol and water sucked out from the dehydrated cool air conditioned air for overnight. If it is winter, put near the heater which also has dehydrated warm air.
Place battery into phone.
Turn phone on.
See if you have the problem again.
No, I am not joking.

I'm having this same exact issue - I've even had my phone unplugged for about 2 hours, yet when I go to battery status, it says it's only been on battery for 2 seconds... how did your warranty replacement go?
There was somebody on a Dutch forum who has the same problem.
His phone was wet.
And if it is water damage, i hope for you that you have warranty and dont have big water problems ...

had it sealed in a ziplock bag, so no outside water got in - perhaps it got too hot in the bag or there was moisture in the bag when it was sealed? (I should've put in some silica gel or something..)
Hello,
Sorry for going MIA.
Basically I returned this to phones4u, sent it in, and they processed a warranty replacement. They didnt say anything luckily about water damage but I think its because on a rainy day some water got into the bottom. From what I could tell they cleaned up the connector at the bottom with alcohol or something - it was spic and span when i got it back and the phone worked ok.
Side note, I recieved it and saw they scrached up my phone pretty good so i complained and sent it in a second time. Recieved it and the scratches were gone, but to do this they did a new screen replacement.
THe new screen had a bright red stuck pixel. I thought I could live with it but it drove me nuts as my original screen was perfect. So i went back to phones 4 u and sent it in a third time, this time they're saying they will just give me a swap. So although the problem was fixed a mess ensued and now i'm sitting around waiting for my "swap" and next surprises with dealing with them.
THey have been ok though I'm almost sure there is water damage on that phone but they dont seem to have picked up on it, i hope i can get it swapped and then dont have to worry about water damage again.
Cheers.

phone got wet?

well my phone got wet on the back with a case, then i took off the case it and the back which was all wet, the battery was wet to and so was under it, i took out the battery and dried every thing and it worked, everything did, the speakers and buttons. so later today the phone just shut off and wouldnt turn on. so i thought it died and i tried charging and just the light would flicker on the top left of the phone. so i put it in rice for about 5 hours and i put battery back on and now when i press the the power button. the screen just turns on like u can see light, just a black screen. then it goes away.
the battery has some green stuff on one of the gold things that conencts your batteries.
So i oredered another battery off of ebay, do you think that would fix it?
Thank you so much for reading this, just post your opinion on what happend.

Hope it works dude, water damage is pretty random depending on how wet it got. For the future, it would have been better to have taken out the battery and put it in rice immediately...
yap
a friend of mine forgot his phone in the pocket and it got washed by a washing mashiene
he brought it to a phone store and they put the phone into a blue liquide and after that iot worked properly
the green things on the contact came because u put it under voltage due it was wet the water got split into its parts (electrolysis)
i had the same problem with an mp3 player years ago lights went on but nothing else i think u broke ure phone but just leave it for a week or so and try again with the new battery
i hope for it will work
So actually, most phones phone should operate fine on net power and without a battery. Have you tried this? If it behaves the same as you described, I would not spend a dime on it ;-)
Bad luck btw ;-/
Hey guys i know this might not be very useful but hahahahah yesterday night me and some friends of mine were drinking outside near the main river in frankfurt hahahah and drunken girl got 8€ for jumping into the river xD
she did it ( i couldnt believe this xDDDDD i´d never done this )
Afterwards she recognized her galaxy ace in her pocket....
well it got wet
later on in her flat she repowered the phone and everthing worked fine expect the micro usb slot on her device xD
Well jfi xD
Try removing the battery and battery cover and completely submerging in 99% isopropyl alcohol (You can get it at most grocery stores, pharmacies, etc.) for a few hours. At this point the phone should work as normal again, but to be on the safe side take a box of rice and submerge your phone in the rice. Leave it their for a day or two and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.
i might try it myself as my phone has water damage on it as well
9 times out of 10 in my line of work, usually when the screen backlight turns on but doesnt display anything means its done for. I have seen customers with phones that got soaked and they lasted a couple of days but then stopped working... My best guess is that the water was still inside the phone and shorted out one of the small circuits inside. Good luck though i hope you can get it working.

My Galaxy S II dropped in water and i want some help

Hello community.
I have a serious problem and i want your help.I read all the articles about dropped in water but i can't solve my problem. So i am starting from the beginning.
Yesterday my phone was dropped in the toilet for 2-3 sec (stupid i know). I took it, i remove immediately all the parts (battery, sim, external sd) and i start blow with hairdrier (mistake i know) after 2-3 hours i try to switch on the phone with no result so i continue my stupidity... I connect the phone on the charger with no result but as i noticed the back of the phone was warming. After that i read the articles (the first correct thing). So i put the phone in a rice inside a Tupperware and i wait for 8 hours. Then i start the phone and WOW it was working fine for only 10 sec. Then a battery message appear that i must charge the phone and the screen went black but the sounds and the touch was working. So i close the phone and i put it in the charger ( i know,,, i know...) After 10 min i remove the phone from the charger because was warming. I tried to switch on but the screen continue to be black and the sounds and the touch working... So i remove again everything and i put it in the rice again until today 2 hours ago.
I switch the phone and the phone started and the screen working except 1/4 of the screen in the above right place. So i close the phone and i put it in the rice again.... I noticed that when the phone is closed there is difference in colour between the black screen that working and the black part that is not working. So after again 2 hours in the rice i noticed that the black screen that is not working start to expanded in the left top side of the phone... and i am wondering, this thing is a water or something from the screen liquid?
Please help me if you can. I will appreciate your help.
Michalis Michael
I don't know if anyone can help you, it is a smelly affair.
If you were using some kind of disinfectant inside of your toilet (especially the smell of the sea or green apple) you have a huge problem.
More seriously, the layers of the screen stratify from each other. You can only replace whole screen, but I suppose that the rest of your phone also will die sooner or later.
Sell it as defective. Repair will be too expensive.

Dear friend i appreciate your knowledge and i want to inform you that inside the toilet their was NOT any kind of disinfectant inside.
Any suggestion except of sell it as defective???
Okay, don't be nervous, just kidding.
No, unfortunately there is nothing you can do yourself, only replace faulty screen. You just can't stick your digitizer to screen with somekind homemade tricks. And I don't want to worry you, but I'm afraid that there will be also micro corosion on your phone motherboard.
If you really want to try to reanimate it, than you must take it apart, dry all components with rice method or better by using special adhesive liquid used in electronic to remove all wet.
If the glue from the screen has not been rinsed completly than you can try to squeeze layers by placing a book or something heavyweight and flat on top and simultaneously heat it with a hair dryer. Repet this operation few times without taking out weight.
I really doubt that this will help much but if you really wish to try than go ahead. You can always sell it after that. Even in parts.
There is somewhere on this forum instruction how to unscrew i9100 completly.
Good luck.

I will give a try.
Before try your tricks my friend i am informing you that the whole screen went black.... (Ohhhhh).
I just want to know.
The screen was broken or there is water inside the screen? (If you know)
Where car i sell the phone for parts or as a defective? (i ll give a try at ebay but if you know somewhere else give me a hint)
Thanks again guys
Theres guys on here that have went swimming with their phones and they still work.Youd only get about £130 max on eBay for the phone if you admit its water damaged.
Youd be better soaking the phone in that alcohol stuff then drying it via rice for a week.
What can you get for £130.....

[Q] i9100 won't turn on

Last night my phone was working fine, when I went to bed it was charging and still working. When I woke up this morning the screen was black, with no response. I tried to get into recovery and download mode with no luck. I tries these steps to get into download mode except for the usb jjg The phone is rooted and a rom has been flashed, but I did that a couple of weeks back. I have no idea how this could have happened. Also when I plug it in to charge there is no response from the phone. The screen stays black no matter what I do.
Also about a week ago, I dropped my phone outside, it was in torrential rain over night. The next day when I found it, it booted up no problem and has been working perfectly until today.
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?
I'd really appreciate any help,
Dillon
I'd faced the same issue once. In this state, even if the phone is connected for charging, all that happens is the phone becomes warm. I tried everything and the final solution was to get it replaced. My phone was covered under warranty.

Unfortunately mine is not, I guess I could get a replacement motherboard then, are they easy to replace yourself?
The only replacement motherboard you'll be getting is a 2nd hand one; Samsung don't sell new motherboards (unless you're paying one of their service centres to replace it).
Given it was exposed to water 'overnight' & given it sounds like you used it immediately after water exposure (as opposed to immediately shutting the phone down, removing the battery & leaving it in a bag of rice for a week undisturbed), there's a fair chance even a motherboard replacement won't help if other components are damaged.
Water + electronics = unhappy ending.
Might want to start looking for another phone.

Yeah I did use it straight away, not the smartest move I must admit. I guess I will, just annoying having to buy a new phone. Thanks for the info, and thanks for reminding me about the bag of rice, in case something like this happens to me again.

[Q] Water Mark (Patch) on phone LCD, Need urgent help

Hi
I have been searching on this forum for various things for couple of years and never had the need to register until now, My Phone (Galaxy Mega 6.3 i9200) fell in water last week, not fully submerged, just the top of it for few seconds, i immediately pulled it out and have done the following as suggested by many in this same forum:
1. Dried in dry cloth and kept to dry for 1-2hrs
2. put the phone in a air tight container with unboiled rice for 4 days
3. put the phone in a air tight container with desiccant for 3 days
I have put some pictures and you can see the water level has gradually come down from the LCD screen and the cloud patch is somewhat gone and as you can see in the last image, that is what exists and this is not going at all, I have tried vaccum cleaner hot air for 3-5 mins but no luck.
Today i walked to samsung service center and they said i had voided the warranty which is obvious and the phone LCD replacement would cost $120 including labor, however there is one risk which they dont want to take, during the replacement of LCD, if the phone doesnt come alive, then i am stuck with a dead phone for life, I didnt agree to this and walked from there.
All the sensors including cameras work perfectly fine, no issues at all, *#0*# runs with all built-in function absolutely fine, even the battery has no issues and no bulging or no drop in performance and doesnt get heated up, so, here is my question:
1. As you can see the picture, the water level gradually came down, but stuck somewhat in the middle, will this eventually go away like the rest of the water patch or will it stick to LCD like a stain permanently ?
2. If its temporary, how do i remove the water which is in the middle of the screen? I have kept almost a week in dessicant and rice, should i continue or should i try something else ?
3. The last option for me: If this is going to be permanent, anyway to replace the phone LCD without damaging the phone, I dont understand samsung service center asking customer to take risk for water damage inspite of me agreeing to pay the money for the LCD replacement, not fair i guess....b.w all phone functionality could be lost in this case which is working perfectly fine.
so, guys pls suggest me how i can fix this, its a new phone 1 month old and i am feeling very sad for what happened....
Appreciate your replies
Thanks & Regards

did u try to show some local repair shops they will help u and do not blow hot air into it it will try to blow the water but it will again come back try to show some trusted local shops see what they say i too have faced like the same issues but sc as usually say out of warranty due to water damage and my phone flash light was continuous on local shop guy fixed it now running it fine
phone dried
@djvicksee111 thanks for your reply.
yesterday it was raining heavily and my cousin became full wet along with his phone, he then put his phone under the seat of his scooter and drove whole day, when he reached home, the phone had became too hot and what a surprise it was fully dried and no water in LCD or whatsoever and absolutely working fine.
I took this idea and wanted to try the same but didnt want to drive a scooter in the rain
so, i decided i will put the phone somewhere it is not too hot and above warm, i took a small bag, put my phone (removed battery), connected my vaccum cleaner in opposite where you get hot air (blower) and closed the bag leaving small room for air to escape, left it for 15mins initially, there was no sign of improvement, then again left for 20mins and this is what the phone looks now (see attachment).
Eurekaaaaa! the water in the phone is getting dried much faster, i am gonna try this for some more time and post here if the phone is completely dried.
