Xperia Z Ultra (C6833) - SIM not recognized - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I'm new to this forum and I hope to get some help from the community...
Device:
Sony Xperia Z Ultra (C6833), Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) rooted, Built: 14.6.A.1.236 , Developer's mode & USB-Debugging enabled
Problem:
After updating SuperSU to 2.82 I had a bootloop. Did shutdown using small red button, restarted using recobery mode of TRWP (2.8.7.0) and did factory reset. Everything works again (WLAN, Apps, SD card access) but except the SIM card which is not recognized. IMEI not shown "About the phone", but correctly shown in diagnosis tool
Already tried:
- SuperSU 2.82 installed manually via TWRP. Works.
- Restored a full backup Sony PC-Companion, no success. Same with a Snappea backup.
- SIM proofed with different cell phone, works
- Other working SIM card tried with this phone, no success
- I blew a couple of times into the SIM card slot, no success
- Flashed the full ROM (14.6.A.1.236, rooted), no success
- Tried another factory reset, no success
I guess, there is a problem with the modem driver for the SIM card reader. Any ideas how to fix this?
I'm a newby to root & stuff but I'm hoping, that somebody could help me. I'm very thankful for any hints!
Greetings from Germany!

Not sure how the imei got tweaked by updating the supersu..?
But I had the same bootloop with the new supersu on latest stock rom rooted.
Manually removing all root and manually flash the new via twrp didn't work for me either.
Flashed the old supersu and it boots fine.. so I just keep the update in playstore and don't press it.
Perhaps I will repack the supersu app to generate a unique file signature so it won't show up in play store on installed apps.
Perhaps the simcard got tweaked in the tray when you pushed the red button somehow? ...I dunno. Just a thought.
I have had issues with mine too. The tray is very flippy floppy and have gotten stuck several times inside the phone.
But have you tried flashing stock rom with flashtool?
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Make sure that none of the options is ticked in "exceptions" so all partitions being flashed.
Do you know how to use flashtool?

Hi SUPERUSER, thanks for your quick reply!
It can't be the SIM card itself, since it works with my other phone. Also tried my GFs SIM in the C6833, also failed. Should be a ROM problem.
Tried to go back to SuperSU 2.79, 'cause that's how this mess all started (updating SuperSU), have the bootloop again, went back to 2.82. Works fine except the undetected SIM card.
Also tried 2 (probably dirty) modem fixes, this caused also loose of IMEI. Went back to my full backup using TWRP, where everything works (IMEI ok) except SIM card problem.
Just installed the flashtool, but it says, that the bootloader is locked. Unlocking it officially thru Sony website (developer.. sonymobile..com/unlockbootloader) requires installing full Android Suite (1.9GB) and further driver installtion using SDK manager. Is this the only way to use the flashtool? Other question regarding the Flashtool: Tutorials say: Copy ftf-File into the "firmware" folder, but there is no folder with this name. I checked the entire flashtool folder tree.
Isn't it possible to flash ROM in zip-format only using TWRP? Should I give DualRecovery a try too?
Thanks a lot! Appreciate your help!

Whats causing your problem is probably that your bootloader is locked.
But I'm not getting how you use twrp and flashing files if the bootloader is locked?
You can flash stock roms with locked bootloader. It dont require to unlock it.
You don't need to download the whole SDK for just using fastboot.
If you need fastboot you can download fastboot from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
After install choose the right driver for your togari in device manager to "Android bootloader interface"

Fastboot sucessfully installed using your link, but I have a driver problem. The device works fine connected to the pc using Sony PC Companion oder Snappea. Do I need a different driver for running fastboot? Found "S1Boot Fastboot" in "Devices and printers" on my pc and I'm aware that the correct driver has to be installed manually, just don't know where to get it. Google didn't help much, I'm only found a zip on Sony web, which probably does not contain the one file I need for running fastboot.... Any hints?

PC companion is screwing you over because it has its own signed drivers. Perhaps these are proprietary and don't work with universal fastboot.
If you installed the 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.3 from the thread I linked AND installed the google driver when you were asked if you wanted.
Connect your phone in fastboot. Then choose the driver manually from a list. Scroll down to "Android Device" and select "Android Bootloader Interface"
You will get a warning that the driver might not work. Click yes and soon the device will be found and your phone will respond to fastboot commands.
If you need all drivers for example the flashmode driver you can download and install flashtool.
Then you get a folder with a driver pack in C:\Flashtool\drivers. The executable contains all the drivers to every xperia device.
Edit:
If you ever need the driver pack from flashtool I uploaded it to mega:

Cheers! Couple of steps further! Drivers installed, fastboot detects the device now, I unlocked the bootloader successfully using fastboot. Device now recognized by the Flashtool too.
How to flash the custom ROM now? Better using fastboot or the Flashtool? I'd prefer the flashtool due to my limited cmd experiences. But I don't know how to select the FTF-file, which I already downloaded.
Don't know how to add screenshots here directly, so I added 2 attechments: Flashtool Main Screen and Folder sctructure of Emma. There is no "firmware" folder where I can drop the FTF-file to.
If using fastboot, ftf-file won't work, right? Zip-Files only?
How to proceed? Cheers, again!

You downloaded the SONY EMMA flashtool. Not the one we need.
The name is a bit confusing because they are called the same.
The flashtool we need is this one. Download it via torrent its the fastest way.
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Uninstall Emma and install this flashtool.
...time for some ugly doodling
When you are done installing flashtool and are met with the UI you will see a main window as in image one. Press this button on the far right with the XF logo.
A new window will open with the name XperiFirm as in image two. Scroll down the list on the far left until you see the Togari.
Select your device. In my case I have the C6833. Now go to the list in in the middle. Click the "check all" button to fetch all updates.
When this is finished you will see a the latest "version number" on every "operator" in the collumn to the right.
Click the stock rom you would like to download in the list that correspond to where you live.
I always download customized DE because it includes the region I live in. Now look at the list to the right.
A list will appear under the "Available Firmware:". Click on the one you want to download. In this case there is only one entry.
Almost all older stock rom has been removed lately so it is very rare that you will find any old based on jelly bean or kitkat.
Anyway. When you click the one you want to download a new window will open as shown in image three
You will see some info. Double check the name is the one you want to download. If its right. Click download and make a coup of coffee.
When the download is finished you can close the window and let flashtool do its job. When its done.
You can see it in the log when it says its finished.
Now you want to press the button all the way to the left. That thunderbolt icon as shown in image four
A new window will open. Select flashmode and press ok as shown in image five
A new window will open and here you can see a list of which stock roms you have downloaded as shown in image six
Select the one you want to flash and look to the right in the "Exclude:" box. Make sure nothing is ticked.
And press flash when you are ready. And follow the instructions following by flashtool when it is ready.
Optional
If your phone is not detected in flashmode you need to install S1 - flashmode driver. You can do so by follow these steps.
Go to this folder as shown here in image seven
Execute the file as shown here in image eight
Select Flashmode Drivers as shown in image nine You don't need to select fastboot drivers. Because you already have this working.
If you want you can scroll down and select Xperia Z Ultra drivers as shown in image ten however this seems to fail in Windows due to driver signature verification.
Its not necessary to select it. Click install and hopefully the device will be seen when connected in flashmode.
For zip files. What you find here on the forum. You flash these in recovery. Not very difficult. You can find loads of guide on how to get started learning how to use recovery mode.
.img files. You flash via fastboot with cmd. Not very difficult either. Key tip here is to don't make typos or you need to rewrite the whole command again..which get boring fast.

Followed all your instructions. Custom ROM flash with (the correct) Flashtool was succesful. Now comes the hopefully magic moment, where I'm gonna reboot and see if SIM card will be detected....

SIM card NOT detected. I'm freakin' out!
Again tried the SIM card in 2 other phones, no problems. Tray and contacts shouldn't be the problem either, because I didn't to anything with SIM card and tray when the problem came up first after the stupid update of SuperSU and the following bootloop. Just pressed the tiny red panic button to shut down and went into recovery mode.
Just tried to use some thin folie between the tray and the SIM card in order to have some more pressure between SIM card and the contacts, failed.
Is it technically possible that a full custom ROM flash (with no ticked exceptions) still not formated the probably damaged SIM card modem portion/driver?
User pintspin has the same problem as above and he is much more into the topic than I am.
Still any hints? Wanted to avoid buying a new smartphone, still love the Ultra C6833 and its large screen...

I will ask him if I can obtain the ones that worked for him/her.
The modem should be flashed when you flashed the ftf file if the baseband portion is included.
This is the one I found in the thread ResurrectionRemix 5.8.3 25/05/17 [7.1.2] Nougat for Togari,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56234199&postcount=16
And this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/help/aosp-rom-sim-detection-t3185526/post62481536
I know I have used one other way back. It was two zips. You flashed them in a specific order or the phone would not boot.
But I can't find this one.
I uploaded my own modem files. Its the same files that is in the zip above but with the stock rom Im running.
Im guessing it might do something because its working on my phone. And its the same files that is being flash in the above zip file.
File is not flashable. Unzip and replace the in system/etc/firmware. Permissions 644. And reboot.
Or you could do it from twrp. Take a bit longer. Manually delete the three files one by one and then copying the files one by one.
Setting the permissions to 644 one by one.

@SUPERUSER done , uploaded here the working modem patch strangely from a different variant but worked fine... thanks for above help as well.
I can confirm that the attached modem patch is working perfectly fine ... on AOSP build ( 6.0.1 )
(*) @ac845 steps i suppose you already have your system.img and boot.img
Flash the aosp Rom images ( system.img ) and (boot.img) via fast boot OR if you dont have images of stock then just flash any stock rom zip from recovery i used twrp recovery after FULL WIPE OR if you even dont have both then just use Scrubber port GPE for togari 6833 z ultra
don't reboot
Flash the attached modem patch i.e. C6802_modem_patch.zip
reboot to system
on first boot it will take a bit ( 1 minute may be ) to detect and register the sim.
I have finished worked on my rom as well , will going to upload it hopefully today ... its purest aosp stock , can be rooted and gapps are also tested working fine , there is no Imei base band issue as well.

I (partially) understand, what you guys mean, but I don't know how to proceed and thus have to ask more beginner questions:
As recommened by SUPERUSER like 2 days ago I flashed a the .276 stock ROM. The device is of course unrooted now, bootloader open. I don't have a recovery mode (f.i. TWRP) where I can flash ZIPs. What would be the easeast way to flash a ZIP-file in this situation? I could try flashing with fastboot, but I don't know where to get the right .imgs. Wished I still had TWRP though. Sorry for bothering you, but for beginners like me it's too complex sometimes...

Download this file https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24415232478676273
To make it more simple. Rename the file to "recovery" without the quotes when the download is finished.
In your download folder on your computer hold down shift on your keyboard and right click on an empty space.
In the right click menu select "open command window here".
In the cmd. Type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".
Turn your phone off. And boot it to fastboot. Hold volume up or down and simultaneously connect the usb cable to the computer.
If you did it right the phone should have a blue led on.
Now press enter on your keyboard inside the command window.
Hopefully you will see something like flashing and then finished.
How to boot to recovery?
Pull out the usb cable.
Now hold volume down and press power button.
When it vibrates let go. A few seconds you will se the twrp ui.

In addition to super user post above : For fast boot you need to press volume up and then connect PC USB cable when your PC is on and USB cable is connected to it ( you also need yo ensure that USB debugging is turned on ) goto phone setting and you need to press 8 times on build number in your about phone n phone will open a hiden option called developers option under phone settings and goto developer options n under that option you need yo select USB debugging on .

TWRP succesfully installed. Great to have it back!
But now it comes: SIM CARD DETECTED AGAIN after 2 weeks and endless hours of fiddling, reading forums and bothering you guys. You both are awesome  and made my day!
What I did:
1. TWRP installed
2. full wipe
3. installed prerooted custom rom 14.6.A.1.236: Customized Germany (DE), source: https://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/stock-roms-mirror-root-tools-anleitung.559556/ Link: https://mega.nz/#!PoEElBZa!DlejjkTzCZGMXbJR0ZvgTk5i0gNqo4QSM0LIyyRKl1M
4. installed SUPERUSER's modem patch from above
5. rebooted: 1. time no SIM card detected. Wanted start crying :crying:, but rebooted 2nd time: SUCCESS! Broadband of my provider is back!
Now restoring messages, contacts and apps right now using Snappea. After reorganzing apps I'll do full TWRP backup and I hope that this problem never will occur.
During restore app process I'll go to a German beer garden and will raise my glass to you guys! Want to donate both of you some money, please let me know how. Paypal?
Greetings from Germany!

Unfortunately it's not over yet!
SIM still not detected very often, but sometimes it does. SIM works for some hours but then it's accidently not detected anymore in locked-screen mode or in the middle of operation, app usage etc. Rebooting with detected SIM works in 1 of 5 times maybe. Restoring full backups doesn't make any difference.
Had the idea that it is a temperature problem and cooled the device down in the frosting fridge for a couple of minutes, but rebooting incl SIM detection works more often, but not always. Beside SIM problem operation is normal, no problems with WLAN, apps etc.
IMO it can't be a software bug since problem occures not generally. Before I'd send it in to Sony I wanted to ask the community if you have any ideas or recommendations?
Cheers!

Some apps fail to open every now and then, and the stock android alarm doesnt work (the app seems fine, but when the alarm goes off there is no noise, yes ive tried volume etc, yes ive tried downloading a 3rd party alarm)
So id like to put a fresh 2.1 rom on, ive tried these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825675
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827065
But i cant get them to work, the .bat files of the flasher fail at the connection stage (2nd step after selecting windows vr)
Im having a lot of problems,, main one is that i cant install the driver for the x10 in flash mode, windows cant find the driver.
If anyone could kindly tell me exactly what i have to do, starting from connecting the x10 to a virgin win xp (no drivers installed for the x10), id be happy to donate $20USD into your paypal account
Ok let me see if I can help you a title here....
1. Root your device using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=453551&d=1291188836 its really simple and fast...
2. Once you've root your device use this application http://www.mediafire.com/?ewf9e41ybw2eazz
to install the Xrecovery menu on your phone... It's very simple as well....
3. Download this file http://hotfile.com/dl/87564842/7e80127/SE_update-shipped-full.zip.html
and save it to your SD Card into any folder you want, I recommend you to do it in a new one with any name you want, that will make easier the next step...
4. Reboot your phone and right after the white letters with Sony Ericsson logo appear press the back key a few times , if the Xrecovery menu has been installed correctly you will see a weird image of and Android with troll face lol... and a bunch of options like reboot, install update zip etc....
5. Choose Install Custom Zip and then go to the folder you created with the downloaded zip file... from step 3... Then select it and click in yes... Wait for a few minutes and when the phone tells you done click on reboot and wait for the firmware to load...
6. Enjoy the SE 2.1 firmware with JIT enabled.
7. Read your inbox...

Put XP in safemode, run seus, put phone in flashmode when prompted so it installs the drivers, try the flashtool again, while in safemode on XP.
Or if you'd rather go for something simpler.. try rooting (if you haven't already) then follow this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828163 to flash to global generic.
i cant even get the phone to tunr on atm, but if i get it to work ill send $20 ur way jimbo, thanks everyone
jimbo, actually your links are broken so i cant follow your guide cause u just say "use this application" - but link is down
ok, i found a new link for that one, but i cant install it cause when i connect my phone to the pc, it just starts charging, it wont mount the sd??
"If anyone could kindly tell me exactly what i have to do, starting from connecting the x10 to a virgin win xp..."
ok i put xrecovery on the sd card through a pc, installed the app and ran the app, clicked Install Xrevovery, error
already have root access, xreovery was granted superuser, but doesnt work
tried the new root app just in case, it just switched off my phone... none of this works
does anyone live in Sydney and can do it for me????
Have you installed BusyBox too?

[Q] New member new phone (Now a big problem as well)

Hi, everyone I just joined this forum. I have X10i with firmware 2.1. While searching the thread i came acrosss terms like root, xrecovery, flashing, MT, generic etc. Can someone help me out what these terms mean. I wanted to upgrade my phone to gingerbread. Previously I am an iphone user So i am total noob to this OS and the phone
Thanks in advance
good get away from iphone
root--same thing as jailbreak
xrecovery-- a badass tool that lets you flash roms onto your phone.
flashing-- umm... it is like installing a modified version of even the legit version on the device
generic-- A product having no brand name or registered trademark
example= for device there is branded or non branded
branded means that a company like ATT or Rogers approves that firmware or OS version. So when you turn your phone on, you will usually see something related to them. like an animation of the att world
generic--- clean install. no company restrictions. just regular
ok links for all that crap above
2.3.3 firmware (does not matter if you download x10a or x10i)
Generic-----

do yourself a favor and read

What should i Do now One thing more i was goignaround the threads looking for solution So in one thread it said that firmware can ber installed through flash tool 0.2.5
I tried that too and amazingly the flashing goes all the way to the end on 0.2.5 in the end i get the msg that flashing complete and remove the phone but when i remove the phone and turn it on it just vibrates and small blip of green flash led than nothing
What could be the problem
1. Download Flashtool from
http://doomlord.sylvester20007.com/x10/x10_gb/FlashTool_0.2.9.1-GBready_root_xRec.exe
2. Download the generic 2.3 ROM of your choice
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11038646&postcount=1
Personally I would get the Global version unless you can find your country specific one.
Global version download - http://www.multiupload.com/JEXUAHAZTL
3.
a) connect your phone to your PC, make sure it installs the drivers (if your Sony software is working it is fine)
b) Extract Flashtool into a directory you know
c) Extract the firmware file you downloaded. And move the ftf file into the "firmware" directory of Flashtool
d) Make sure your phone is not connected to the PC and is off.
e) Run Flashtool, click on Flash and select the firmware you have just downloaded.
f) It will give you the same instruction - holding the "back" key, (phone still off) connect it to the PC. If you did this correctly, the light will be green and it will start flashing your phone.
g) After it is completed, reboot your phone once or twice and check that it is working.
4. Installing xrecovery and rooting refer to instructions (you already have all the files from when you download in step 1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808
Let me know when you have completed the steps above.
Thanks for advice downloading it now and going to try and will let now about the results

I have flash tool 0.2.5,0.2.8,0.2.9,0.3.0
Have tried them all only 0.2.5 goes all the way to the end but when i turn on the phone it only virbrates and green led flashes for sec than nothing
When you reboot is there anything showing on the screen? Sony logo...anything? If yes, wait it can take a long time for a new rom to install. If no, I think you need to revert back to the 2.1 rom, root and install busybox, superuser, and xrecovery. once thats done you can backup your rom and data so you don't get stuck updating or if you have trouble with a custom rom etc. Also I think your battery stats should be wiped using xrecovery, it sounds like SEUS checked this and the file said your battery was too low to continue the update. Here is a good place to start.

Try taking the battery out and then try flashing again. Which ftf file are you flashing or selecting in the flash program. You need to use at least a 0.2.9 version of the flashtool.... if you use 0.2.5 start with the 2.1.54 ROM first.

Soft-Bricked LG GT540 Optimus

Hello. I've tried using multiple ROMs in my rooted phone with KDZ Updater, and I guess that one of the updates hanged, or maybe it was something else... I really don't know. What I do know is that my phone currently isn't able to enter recovery mode, and is also not showing any boot logos (neither 'LG' nor 'Android').
I did see some threads about this, one of them talking about starting in Download Mode and using KDZ in CS_Emergency mode with some French ROM. Well, I tried that and as soon as I press "Launch software upgrade" the program freezes until I plug my phone off the PC.
I feel as if something was stuck in my throat and the only way to get it out is by completing this... so any help will be greatly appreciated!
PS: All this happened in the process of trying to install Cyanogen Mod 10.1 (which I did not try yet).

Thanks for the reply!
I appreciate the info, and I'll be checking what you've said. All the links in that thread are inaccessible because Fileserve only lets you download what you upload. Anyway, I'm curious as to what this "DLL" file does on a smartphone... why do I need these things? I never heard of them being mentioned anywhere.
I'll start educating myself ASAP. Meanwhile, thank you very much (and by the way, if it's of help to anyone, my phone is a GT540g from Personal, Argentina.
You're welcome. Sorry, didn't check to see if the files were still there and most every other site just had reposts of the fileserve links. However, finally found what you need here:
http://files-gsm.ru/lg flesh/GT540gAT-00-V20a-722-34-DEC-28-2010+0.dz.zip
I found this dll for your phone but not sure if it works with the firmware you have for that version:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/9v9e78xronadm0c/GT540g_100506_MP.dll
"A dynamic-link library (DLL) file is an executable file that allows programs to share code and other resources necessary to perform particular tasks..."
Basically it ties together a few things in Windows to let the flash tool work for your specific device is my understanding. But they have to be specific to the phone or it won't run once it checks the build.prop of the phone vs the firmware you're trying to install.
Keep in mind, I do not have this phone and have no way to test if they will or won't work so just like any other mod or upgrade - you do so at your own risk.
Thanks, but...
First of all, I'm very sorry not to have replied before, but I've been busy. Anyway!
Thanks, I appreciate the links, but I don't understand where to put the .dll file in my phone. I know you'd think I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to use Google, but I actually did search beforehand. I simply don't get where to put it.
Also, if it's worth the shot, I just noticed that I should disable the "Modem" that activates when I plug my phone in. The problem is, KDZ just does this simple log [attached] and states "===FINISHED===" (Note that I have 2 Modems listed in my device manager [attached screenshot])
Solution GT540
Thanks for your help everyone, I came to a solution after a full year lol. Here's my enlightenment, from another Thread:
Just wanted to leave my 2 cents here, I've been trying to do my best since around august 2014, no success. 2 days ago I retried this, and I DID IT! I will tell everyone what I did very shortly:
My problem that I solved: I can boot, device works like a charm. But: no boot logos, no recovery.
My solution for TL;DR: UNINSTALL ALL DRIVERS FROM DEVICE MANAGER 1ST, then reinstall. After that, flash a fastboot ROM and use it to WIPE ALL THE DATA IN YOUR PHONE! THIS was what I needed and was never explained: you had to WIPE the old data in order to get the boot screens back.
IN THIS ORDER (THANK YOU to those people from previous replies, gathering all your info was of great value):
Uninstall all of your phone drivers from your PC!!! This is what made most of my headaches go away, just use Device Manager and uninstall anything from LGE. After that, plug in your device in your USB ports (always BACK ports, not front ports, important). It should detect all drivers and download them.
IF it fails (it generally does with LGE USB Modem), you can go to Device Manager > Unknown Device (the one that wasn't recognized) > Right Click and Update > Choose 2nd option, then choose "choose from a list of local controllers" (or whatever the button says). After that, scroll down to LG Electronics, Inc. and install what didn't install.
I also found these drivers, but I did not test them: http://www.mediafire.com/download/p693hcz6kkouh19/USB_Driver_LG_GT540.zip
Huzzah!
Now you're set to begin:
FIRST thing you wanna do is a factory reset, this is something I'd forgotten with time, don't make the same mistake as I did. You can do it by turning your phone on and pressing Volume +/- & Home & Quick Search buttons all together for 5 seconds (it works, be patient and wait for it, even if you open the camera or any other stuff).
Download this Google SDK Tools (unzip and put the folder in C:\ drive) and this Fastboot drivers for GT540 (unzip and put the files inside the folder in C:\android-sdk).
Skip this next line if you know your ROM has fastboot.
Now, if you don't have a ROM with fastboot, I recommend you use either European Open+Fastboot or V20C Orange France Fastboot ROM.
Click to collapse
Since you have Fastboot enabled, now all you need to do is turn off your device (all this with its battery on it, no weird things) and hold the Camera button before turning it back on. This should take you either to a black screen, or simply to no display, like me. Either one will work anyways.
Now press the Windows key > Type cmd and open it with Right Click > Run as Administrator.
In it, type all this, command by command (you can paste by right clicking):
cd C:\android-sdk
fastboot -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
Click to collapse
And now it's go time! Do what everyone else says in here: Take out your phone's battery, SD and SIM cards, fire KDZ Updater up as Administrator (If your KDZ freezes, then it's either faulty or you did not install msxml, look for a good KDZ that comes with that file and delete your current one), choose CS_Emergency PhoneMode and:
1-Plug your phone while holding the volume DOWN button (don't worry! My phone didn't show "Download Mode" either, if you hear the Windows "Somethingpluggedin" Bump noise, it's ok).
2-Flash French V20A
3-Unplug your phone once KDZ says "==FINISHED==".
4-Plug it once again, holding the volume DOWN button.
5-Flash out.kdz (remember! it's CS_Emergency).

THANK YOU XDA!

[Q] Boot loop after unlocking (bounty eligible)

Okay, so I waited patiently for Lollipop to drop on the Z Ultra C6833 in Singapore -- but apparently this is almost the only country which will not be getting the OTA (I can't even get them to answer on Twitter or FB whether this is true). So, I finally followed Sony's instructions to unlock the bootloader. That succeeded. But then I was presented with a language-selection screen after the subsequent boot which I wasn't expecting, and since I thought I just wanted to just go down into recovery and not set up a refresh ROM, I powered off the device without proceeding through the language selection screen.
Apparently, that was a bad call because I've been in a bootloop since then which triggers after a freeze in the swishy boot animation. I flashed the TWRP recovery image I found on these forums, but no go. The volume up/down tricks have never put me into a recovery environment, and the only thing I can succeed in doing still is putting it into fastboot. Sony PC Companion's recovery process won't complete because it detects foreign software (probably the TWRP recovery, right? -- but where do I get stock recovery, and would that even work anyway? And Emma let me in once, but subsequently refuses to respond to the supplied configuration INI file (I'll try to fully reinstall this thing later).
I love this phone. Best phone I've ever had. My plan is up and I *could* get a new phone, but I don't want to move on! I want my Z Ultra. So, someone hold my hand, please. I am even willing to pay a bounty (via PayPal) for a live chat if that is what it takes to get someone knowledgeable to help me in a timely fashion. I live in Singapore (UTC+8), and I do biphasic sleeping, so I'll also be awake between 1:30am and 4:00am my time. Thanks in advance for **any kind of help!**
Sincerely,
Hopeful and anxious expat in Singapore
Edit: I will pay $60 USD by PayPal to the individual who can provide a productive resolution (preferably write here and be available over chat so I can learn from you -- PM me for Hangouts, Skype, VSee, or Firefox Hello contact details). A "productive resolution" does not mean necessarily that we will fix my phone. It may mean that we conclude definitively that we can't. I will take this thing into the Sony Service Centre and give them my money if I have to, but I'd rather give it to one of you fine folks. I only want to give a few more hours to this. I've already been phoneless for two days.
New information in the continuing saga
Reinstalling Emma didn't help, nor did putting customization.ini in creative locations or pasting the developer mode line from that INI file into other INI files within the Emma directories. So I gave up on Emma until I can get to another computer.
After a user kindly uploaded this SIN file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/general/bootloader-devices-real-recovery-t3117566) to a fileshare for me, I figured out (here https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/65058/why-custom-roms-are-zip-filed-than-made-as-ftf) that "FlashTool" is not the same as Sony's "flashtool" Emma, so I installed it. It wanted me to put the phone in flashmode -- so I held volume down while plugging in the cable, which never before displayed anything different on the screen, nor a green LED which I've read elsewhere I should be seeing (e.g. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/sony-xperia-z-ultra-flash-mode-51769/). But despite the lack of visual clues, FlashTool told me it connected to flashmode and the flash succeeded. It didn't seem to help at all, though, as I still get the bootloop just as before and I still can't access a recovery mode.
That means that I can apparently get into both fastboot and flashmode, which I wanted to make special note of. Is it possible to access ADB while the phone is powered off?
just download flashtool, install driver in included in flashtool folder.
download also any FTF, generic zultra, dont care if 3g or lte.
flash it, should resolve the issue.
in flashtool, make sure you dont touch and leave the flash option as default. it will wipe your data, cache and everything.
to be safe, remove sim and sdcard.

None of the supplied drivers match the "S1Boot Fastboot" device which comes up in my Device Manager. Also, none of the updated FlashTool Xperia Driver Pack match (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635830), nor the drivers on SonyMobile.com, nor the drivers which come with Sony PC Companion. I didn't have this problem on my other Windows 10 machine, but just in case that is an issue, I'm downloading the Android SDK 1.2.1.1 Beta to see if I get any mileage out of that.
I attempted to flash the FTF supplied here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60958777&postcount=3) but I got the following messages:

Download flashtool
I assume you're on windows 8.1/8 you have to disable driver signature enforcement. Then install the drivers than flashtool will detect your phone.
Flash ftf
You will need to re-root, and you can unlock the bootloader.. After that flash away. Remember to install recovery and back up ta. I'm a noob at this and did it for the first time a few weeks ago, so I know you can do it.

I'm on Windows 10 -- I wasn't getting any errors, so DSE didn't even occur to me. I disabled it and was able to re-flash stock. Still, I struggled with getting a recovery installed, but after several attempts, and started from scratch a few times, one of them finally stuck. After that, I installed a custom ROM and things are running perfectly.
Thanks!

Disappointment with the Service Center
By the way, when I decided I had been too long without an operating phone (before I got the DSE tip), I took the phone to a Sony Mobile Service Center and had them diagnose it. They concluded that there was a hardware failure rather than a software failure (which would require some 300 SGD to repair). I declined, returned to the office, saw the message about DSE, and was immediately successful in reflashing stock. I took it back to the Sony Mobile Service Center and had them confirm that there was in fact no hardware issue -- and that their diagnosis was incorrect. Thanks for the help folks!

Screen not broken but also not responding to touch because of flashed twrp-recovery, now what?? And especially where to begin with troubleshooting??

Hello everybody,
I have a big problem because my Sony Xperia Z Ultra C6802 doesn't work anymore and doesn't respond to touch anymore since i flashed a certain twrp-recovery to the recovery-partition with fastboot.
So that's why i'm forced to connect my wired mouse to it to be able to control it as far as that's possible. I tried to flash another twrp-recovery to it but fastboot doesn't work anymore and is broken, or so it seems. In any case it's impossible to use fastboot or adb for that matter because the phone wont boot into the bootloader-mode. So could someone please help me with this issue??!! Before i started to hack my phone it worked perfectly and the display responded normally to touch input. The only thing i can do with it at the moment is boot into twrp and the rom which is Lineage-os 18.1. But even when i'm booted into the rom the display still doesn't respond to touch anymore and i still have to use my connected wired mouse to use it.
I hope to hear from you soon about this!
Kind regards,
Laurens

It seems your Z ultra is soft bricked. All you have to do is download "Xperia Companion" software
and press "Software Repair", then check the option "My device cannot be detected or started...", then follow the steps provided.
As a result you will have your zultra with a fresh stock rom (Lollipop) from Sony.
Then, you can custom mod your phone again.
EDIT: don't forget to lock your bootloader before running xperia companion!

As a result you will have your zultra with a fresh stock rom (Lollipop) from Sony.
Then, you can custom mod your phone again.
EDIT: don't forget to lock your bootloader before running xperia companion!

I only have one more question: since i can't get access to the bootloader (fastboot), how do i bypass the problem of having to re-lock the bootloader again with (needed) access to the bootloader and fastboot before continuing with Xperia Companion??
Try This:
- Download FlashTool (I'm using version 0.9.30 and it works on my Zultra)
- Extract it to a folder (eg c:\flashtool)
- Go to C:\Flashtool\drivers and install the drivers (FASTBOOT, FLASHMODE and everything with Zultra... )
- Run C:\Flashtool\FlashTool64.exe, and let it update througth github
- Press the BLU botton, follow the instructions on how to connect your phone, then select the model and press Relock
EDIT: The following approach is the flashmode, so you may not have a problem. Please report here if you finally succeed unbricking your phone...
Good luck

Could you please upload Flashtool 0.9.30 somewhere and post the downloadlink here in this thread? Because version 0.9.30 is nowhere to be found when i search for it with Google. Only version 0.9.34 is available from the official Flashtool-website, or can i use that one also?
Edit: well first i tried to run Xperia Companion while my phone was unlocked (just to confirm if it works or not) and it didn't gave me any errors, but now it does give me an error saying it can't continu because my phone is locked and i first have to unlock it again before continuing. Do you have any ideas on how to proceed now?
Ps: also my phone is now dead since i locked it again and doesn't respond to anything except it vibrates shortly after pushing the on-button but nothing appears on screen!
Ps1: It appears so that Xperia Companion probably means with "that my phone is locked" that i have a screenlock which i need to unlock first before proceeding.
And yet another thing happened namely: the program complaints about me not having a working internet-connection which doesn't make any sense since every other device in my house has a good working internet connection! I have included a picture of the error below so you can see what i mean.
Eventually it worked!! after successfully relocking the bootloader my phone was completely dead and only vibrated shortly after pressing the power-button and that was it. But since Flashtool reported that the relocking-procedure was successfully fullfilled, i then carried on with Xperia Companion but this time on my Macbook Air (because of the error i got on Windows, see screenshot).
Finally i managed to let it install the original sofware and this time it completely reanimated my phone again, and even my display returned back to normal again!!
So now i can finally begin all over with installing the latest Lineage version onto the phone, thanks to you!!
Ps: before i forget: i found eventually a Flashtool website which has the version you got (0.9.30) so i downloaded that and used it in the process!!
So i can't express enough how much i appreciate your help and can't thank you enough for all of this!!
Glad you could make it!
This is the standard procedure when things go wrong with custom flashing with any xperia device that becomes completely unresponsive.
Two things:
- version 0.9.30 is what I'm currently using. Most likely the newer versions are working as well.
- To unlock your bootloader again, you only have to press the BLU button in Flash Tool and then UNLOCK.
