Which device is the best choice? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wanting to get my son decent cell phone for his birthday. Trying to spend under 200. So far the devices I'm considering the LeEco Le s3, the Blu Life One X2 or getting an older flagship like the Note 4. Which phone do you think is the best for under 200?

Avoid LeEco. It is in financial trouble and might go bankrupt. Then no support.
But if you are the type to flash your OS anyways, then I guess warranty aren't important.

I do like custom ROMs. I wasn't sure that device had any. Didn't seem to have a dedicated forum for the Le S3 so I didn't really check yet.

For reducing the amount of unnecessary clutter on xda this thread got closed. There is an established thread for requesting purchase advices. Please post your request over there.

[Q] Which Android phone to buy?

I'm buying a new phone and I want an android one. But there are many android phones and so can't decide which one I should buy. Which one may be the best android phone?
Please give me some advices.
These are the phones I think they are great..
SG3 ( should I wait till this out? and will it the best one? )
SG2 ( now this device probably isn't the best one anymore, right? )
HTC sesation XE
HTC sensation
HTC Evo 3D
Sorry for if I did anything wrong and please point out what I am doing wrong since this is my very first post in this forum.
And sorry for my English.
Android Devices
I believe there are several things to consider when choosing an Android device to buy.
First, what do you plan on doing with it? [beyond just using it as a phone ]
ROM development, app/game development, gaming, scuba diving, etc.
Second, what's your budget? This is definitely the most important factor, since international GSM versions of the phones you listed are rather pricey [approx 500 - 700 USD]
Lastly, network compatibility. [supported bands]
You probably want to make sure you get a phone that supports your carrier... although this isn't absolutely necessary
If you are using it for development of ROMs, any upcoming device is recommended, since they can always use more devs, though you should be wary of locked bootloaders [such as those found in Motorola devices]
Devices suggested: GS3, HTC One S/X, Galaxy Nexus.
If you're using it for app/game development, any Nexus device would be your best bet, as they set the standards for Android
Devices suggested: Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus.
If you just want to play games, then grab the latest and greatest!
Devices suggested: GS2, GS3, HTC One S/X, ASUS Padfone [whenever it comes out ]
I personally have a Galaxy Nexus [GSM], and vouch for it's delicious Ice Cream Sandwich
If this helped at all, I'd appreciate it if you clicked "thanks"
Sorry, I couldn't find the thanks button but will do it when I see the thanks button. But thanks anyway. It helped.
But is galaxy nexus's battery life good?
Hi everyone!
I am sorry if I am not supposed to post this question somewhere else
Well,as the title says,I need your opinion for a purchase I want to do on a Android smartphone.
To be honest I am confused!
Okay to be more specific, the phones I really liked most are the following :
1)Samsung Galaxy S III
2)LG OPTIMUS 4X HD P880
3)HTC ONE X
And there is one rumored :
4)LG LS970 Eclipse 4G LTE(not compatible with my country's carriers, but I believe that this phone will be released to other countries too)
Now you might be wondering why am I looking for rumored phones, well consider this as a stupid thing that I always do with things I want to buy.
According to the budget,I will say that I can give 500-700$
I want the phone mostly, for emails, organizer, calendar, browsing on the internet, movies and most important for development.
So which one you recommend?I have heard tons of things for each phone. Please justify your answer. It would be really helpful!
P.S.: I have posted accidentally almost the same thing in a wrong sub-forum!Sorry for that mods!!!
Okay I got +1000000 ( ) for HTC ONE X from orb3000.What you guys think?
Based on your needs
I think it does matter more why you wanna use that device?
So, it should meet your interests and your needs.
SG2 vs SG3= For me there are no difference in terms of my needs as well applications. But for you maybe you got fond of the new features
Budget does matter
Are you referring to my question hweidi or to the initial one?Because if you do refer to my question I mention all the things that you ask on the #4 post on this page.
take something from the new HTC
I see that people start hating a bit Samsung. Why is that?Is it because of the design and the plastic they use to make the phones?
Xperia S?
i use Nexus S

I would want to know about your opinions too.. Actually I am a Symbian (N8) user and was planning to go for Nokia 808.., but then I felt SGS III hardware is the best at the moment.. I know mostly everything about Symbian and if I will ditch it and go for SGSIII, that will be my first Android phone and considering my zero knowledge in Android .. I am a little bit wondering whether I should make that leap since I love modding stuff and since it will be my first Android device, it will take much longer to learn about it to get ready and start exploring stuff in Android..
So do you guys think I should move to SGS-III?
Also I tried to find some very very basic FAQs threads about Android but couldn't so if anyone could lead me to a right direction, I will be glad and thankful.
Thanks.
As for the nokia I would say that it was my favorite company,I am a proud owner of a Nokia N900.Unfortunately due to its financial problems Nokia is sinking like a boat.It doesn't have money for research and development of innovative technologies.Add to that, the fact that Microsoft bought it and now most of the new Nokia devices, except for a few others like the 808,run Windows Phone, which in my personal opinion still needs way to much development to reach Android/iOS(although I am a hater of the iPhone and not a Microsoft hater). Also,Google is the new superpower/master of the game and almost everyday comes with something new.Think also that Samsung,LG,HTC,Motorola,NVidia(and eventually Intel) they possess money for hardware development(CPUs,GPUs,GPS chips,NFC chips, batteries, camera sensors, pcb reference designs,screens,etc....).So basically, you should move to android.Mind that companies/descent software developers make software for people who probably don't know that much from technology and that is why they try to make it as easy and comfortable and flawless in use.As for you you won't have problem to learn the use of an Android phone and as for the fact that you want to do mods/hacks to an Android phone if you are a Unix/Linux user you won't have a problem as the philosophy is the almost same(not precisely but almost). But even if you are not a Unix/Linux user then again you won't face any problems!
It's all about on how much research you do on something.
That's my personal opinion on your question.
As for my question to help other members to answer my question what concerns me most is if it is better to have qualcomm(quad core)/exynos/tegra 3 and adreno/mali/nvidia ulp combination?

I wouldn't recommend the Sensation series and Evo 3D. If you are on a budget then you can consider the Galaxy S2 or if you have money to burn, you may want to go for the HTC One Series devices (One S, One X. Not One V).

Note: Microsoft did not buy Nokia. They only went into partnership.
As for the answer to your question, if you do not browse the web and/or play games frequently on your phone (means you are not a heavy user), any of those are fine. If you are a heavy gamer, I would recommend the Tegra 3 + ULP Geforce GPU. For battery life, the Snapdragon S4 performs better than the Tegra. For normal day to day usage (web browsing etc), I would recommend Exynos.

[Q] New unlocked phones.

Hi everyone. I posted earlier in this forum about getting a Nexus 4 and everyone said I should and I was going to order it but then I changed my mind. I don't understand my mentality on this and I hate that I have it but I always want the latest and greatest. I mean it is kind of everyone's mentality but I'm just saying. So I stumbled upon the Oppo Find 5 and I really liked it and for the price it was great for an unlocked handset with those hardware specs. I just feel that there is going to be another flagship phone from Oppo in the coming months considering they did great with the Find 5. Does anybody know about any rumors of a new handset from Oppo? I am also considering getting the Note 3 when it comes out unlocked so if anybody has any rumors on that then please let me know. Also I might even get the next nexus if it compares to the high end smartphones out there and if it comes at a reasonable price unlocked. Thank You.
Check this out; Oppo Find 7.

Oh wow I did not hear about this haha Thanks man. I also thanked your profile. Now I am very excited about this phone lol. I am going to get a phone in November because I am 15 years old and sadly I do not have a steady income haha but I will soon make enough money to buy this phone once it comes out. Thank You. Also do you have any details about any other phones or links to articles? Hopefully this will cost in the same price range as the Oppo Find 7. I would really prefer a Nexus handheld because it is very easy to root and install ROMS and other hacks and it is supported heavily by the community. But looking at this phone and the Oppo Find 5 I will have to change my mind. Do you think that once this phone comes out, the XDA Developers forum will support this handheld as in alot of people will be there to help with problems with rooting and do you think that this phone will have plenty of ROMS available for it because personally I do not like their custom UI that they have set and I would rather have Cyangemod or XenonHD or AOKP ROM on it. And to the other comment, I am in no hurry of needing another smartphone right now and Note 2 just seems old to me.
No I don't have any other links to other smartphones. I just Googled the Oppo Find 7 because I remembered reading something about it a few days ago.
Side note: I just bought a 16GB Nexus 4 (used on Swappa) and am very happy with it. I was considering buying the iOcean x7, but decided on the Nexus 4 because of the developer support. If custom ROM's, themeing and things like that are important to you, I highly suggest the Nexus 4.

I mean I would be alright with the Nexus 4 but I feel as if it is too close to the time of a new nexus being released and I don't want to buy a Nexus 4 right now and figure that there will be a better one in the coming months whihc is going to happen. Thank you for your support though. I am kind of into the custom ROMS and stuff but not that heavily. I am getting into Android programming though but that has nothing to do with the device. And also I had one more question. If I buy a locked phone off of Amazon, lets say the Galaxy S4, and I get it for $200, do I have to fill out my contract details on Amazon or is that done through activation of the phone?

Leeco Lemax2 discontinued?

Hello to everyone... I had a very bad case of "unluckiness" recently. I bouth a Lemax2 from Banggood. Received it defective (the earpiece was defective), i sent it back to Banggood. I was in constant contant with the banggood service team, where they repeteadly told me that when they receive it back and see that it is defective they will send immediately a replacement Lemax2 phone and also refund the postage fees of the returned phone.
That was till yesterday. TOday i received an email saying that it is no longer in stock, so they can;t send a replacement. Ofcourse i went kinda frenzy, because they knew i wanted a replacement and they COULD have hold onto one for me (i know they're dropshippers and they don;t actually have stock themselves, but since they knew our dealing, they could have told their seller to hold one for them...)
ANYHOW they agree ofcourse to a full refund, but the thing is i don;t want a refund but a Lemax2.
I went to search for another shop to buy it from (i need it to be sent via triangle shipping to skip the customs of my country, as it did with banggood) but wherever i searched (except aliexpress they dont support the shipping method i require), theres NOWHERE to be found. Some sites report it to be SOON stocked again, others that it is discontinued.
The funny thing is i already bought screen tempered glass protectors and cases, which i already received...
My question is finally if anyone knows and has some info about it, is it really discontinued? Did they pull it from the market so they can promote the new x920 and x850 leecos? Or is it something that happedned before and it went to stock again?
The device was initially released in May of 2016. So, yeah... it's most likely discontinued by now, and given LeEco's finiancial status at moment, even if it weren't they may not even have the resources (i.e money) to manufacture them...

I think you're wrong. A lot of guessing going on here. Ofc it's not dead. They just released 2 more phones X850 and X920. An there's a 18:9 sr phone coming as well with flagship tech on it.
My question was if someone has actually some info that he/she may have stumbled upon, cause it looks to me their pulling the Lemax2 so they can push the forementioned phones...

Heyyo, x850 and x920 tbh aren't official releases. From what I see they are engineering samples much like they did with the LeEco LeMaxPro (x910) hence it isn't promoted on their website anywhere.
There's also no official source code release for x850 and x920 so unfortunately software development of custom ROMs is limited in that regard...
I'd recommend looking into Le Pro3 as they're also a darn good option. Otherwise? Xiaomi devices have insanely good software development community so they're always a healthy option as long as you avoid MediaTek SoC devices.
Le Pro3 AI is like a Le Max 2 but FHD screen and camera isn't as good for taking photos as Le Max 2.

Thanks for the reply man, appreciate it, thought the funny thing is, LePro 3 is ALSO out of stock. (!!!) While i can find both Lemax2 and Lepro3 in Aliexpress , i can't get them from there cause of custom importing issues (they want full price of the phone, as tax )
Lepro3 AI is MTK and as a previous user of MTKs' i got kinda sick of them... The ROM love i saw on Lemax2 along with the very good specs and awesome price, made me fall in love with it.
Banggood and gearbest out of stock too...
Sorry for mentioning shops, i hope i'm not breaking any rules by doing so, it's just only these shops offer the shipping method preferable.
My luck i guess!

Heyyo, whoops! I meant Le Pro3 elite haha my bad yeah avoid AI edition it is poop MediaTek. :silly:
Hmm if that's the case where you need to buy within the country? Sorry man I'm unsure what to tell you then... If no one will stock it anytime soon? You might be better off looking at a different device.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 does look really good and reviews good and since it's a Xiaomi device with Qualcomm Snapdragon? It'll get really good community software development support. It might only have 3GB of RAM but that's not so bad of a loss as I've never felt my Le Max 2 really benefitted from 4GB of RAM over a 3GB phone but maybe that's just me...
But I see what you mean, those vendors do show LeEco devices as preorder so maybe they are eventually going to restock?
I would also suggest considering Xiaomi. Got my mother a Redmi 4A, it was only $135 cad at the time.... and I'll be honest, the level of quality for the price is actually very surprising. They're certainly worth looking at.
thank you both for your time guys. I acknowledge Xiaomi too, not too fond of their design, but while never had one myself, i can see they're pretty solid devices.
I will be waiting for a bit to see what's going on with Leeco Max2 or Pro3, cause they're at an awesome price for their specs, and they do have awesome specs and rom support. Just hit me a bit weird that they both went out of stock to most if not all known chinese eshops, while Aliexpress sellers still sell them. Either we can expect a move from leeco (surprising knowing the state of the company atm, but still..) or there is no stock left...
Heyyo, update! Good guys on Telegram LeEco channels told me this
Anurag Dhiman:
I bought it for snapdeal website but there is out of stock now.but in delhi some guys have stock and they sold at olx.so try to find in olx
He got an x821 last month for dirt cheap from Snapdeal but yeah might not get lucky meow but might as well check both out eh?
Same nice guy from Telegram sent me this... Good luck!
not sold out
hey banggood has them still on sale, it seems that every couple of days they get more and sell them for a good price (promotion sale for 159 us dollars). The company might not be doing so good but in china they are a very solid company doing many other things so going out of business in unlikely IMHO. (add to the fact that a communist country too)
As for another phone the lepro 3 is more expensive but the le 2 is around 100 dollars and a lower processor (equal to the xiaomi that was mentioned before) or the s3 both have snapdragons but with lower specs in general but seem like the idea in terms of quality.
Aliexpress have them cheaper. Check Kimovil for cheapest prices...
https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-leeco-le-max-2
Tons of new LeMax 2 on Aliexpress in stock. There is no problem to buy it, still.
But yes, it's discontinued. If not, show me where manufacturer mentioned this phone on his website. Please give me a link.
Also please prove LE still manufactures any phones, please give me a link to their homepage.
I bought Le Max 2 (4/32) from banggoog. But I believe the phone that they sent me has some sort of hardware problem. I don't mention that fingerprint is terrible, because I guess fingerprint is a common problem with Le Max 2. But no matter what ROM I installed, wifi stops working after some time (about 500 MB or 1 GB transferred with wifi). I checked if there are any bandwidth restriction from ROM, but there is not any. After that threshold wifi starts to drop the download processes. I tried with 26S Chinese stock ROM and Lineage 15.1 ROM. I started to believe this is a hardware issue.
I think banggood and maybe other sellers are selling returned for problems and refurbished Le Max 2 phones.

LE is a major chinese TV it has branched out to far (including selling in the us phones) and strapped of cash had a lot of financial problems. The head of the company was replaced and other companies bought some of the stock. The latest shareholder meetings seem to indicate that they are still looking for cash see https://www.reuters.com/article/med...-fund-leeco-subsidiaries-caixin-idUSL3N1RV4FQ however the mobile unit called lemobile has been silent dealing with its own lawsuits see https://www.reuters.com/article/bri...dict-regarding-contract-dispute-idUSL3N1QX42C. With all this thier is no notification of bankrupticy that is where my opnion comes from. They do have multipal patents in thier name see https://www.onscope.com/ipowner/en/...le-information-technology-beijing-co-ltd.html which are not sold off as of yet (thats what it seems anyway). IMHO LE over produced phones and that is what we have but I do not know if they are still producing the phones to stay alive. A we know it still is a good phone after2 years (ok no NFC and wireless charging). I did not verify what is being sold in stores in china but the website lemall.com only has TVs. Still no company backing anything.

Why is the Redmi 5 getting so little attention?

hey everyone so i'm clearly enjoying me Redmi 5 but when compared to the other redmi phones or even xiaomi phones overall, it's getting very little attention, like only a few roms and all are nougat roms while others like even the redmi 4 already got an android P rom even though our device is newer and actually better in overall performance, so i think we really should make the forum more lively if we want more interest and roms to come this way
What ideas could you guys have to make our phone a bit more popular? comment below please
Hi, glad you happy to use it. The phone did not get enough attention because it has very little amount of developer for the phone. Cheap ***** don't really turn heads, so does the phone at the eyes of the devs.
Just hold on, we will get oreo sooner or later. If not, try to be rich and buy a better phone.

well, this is a good answer but still i think it should get more attention cause according to gsmarena it has 5,873,306 hits and it sold very well, i mean a 3gb ram device with such good price with 18x9 display, that's not something you see everyday, but i think it just needs some more activity in this forum like people making more threads, replying so that way the devs could get interested and we could get custom roms faster, just my opinion though, thanks for the answer anyway

I think a lot of people who interested in purchasing this phone end up buying the redmi 5 plus model as the price increase is quite low by comparison based on my country market. Anyways, I do agree with having a 3gb ram and a 18x9 display with the range of price given by the market is quite good. TLDR, I think the Redmi 5 Plus does overshadow the redmi 5 model, thus causing low number of custom roms development.
Slightly offtopic. In my country there is a bigger price difference between the Redmi 5 and 5 plus in most mainstream online stores, and I've been able to get my mother a Redmi 5 2/16 gb for literally 107 dollars converted and adjusted for vat! Dirt cheap. In comparison my oneplus 3 costed 500 dollars 2 years ago.
I am able to run Blokada no-root adblocker on the Redmi 5 if I turn off battery optimizations and turn on "keep alive". That's all we need from a cheaper phone isn't it? MIUI gets kinda regular updates and recent security patches, and is an overall solid and lightweight ROM. Not a lot of bloat unlike other cheaper phones.
I'm not even expecting much custom rom's when Xiaomi provides such good support for their phones
The new Rom packaging has screwed a lot of developers. The Market range is far to High to obtain any User investigating for Development.
This device has a neat Stock Experience. The optimisations decreased highly with any Update of the Android version. The Graveyard of Technology is high, with all the cluttering, Invention of Removal of Bloatware, Security Improvements and alternatives of existing Modifications, Hardware that went in and out it was like launching a Rocket. Much will be missed..

Question Upgrading my phone: Should I continue with the OnePlus Nord 2?

Hi there! Just a quick question about what phone I should get next. I've been with OnePlus for a long time, first using a OnePlus 5T then a OnePlus 7T and now a OnePlus Nord. While I think the brand has slowly moved away from what I originally chose it for, cheaper price point for flagship specs, I am still happy with the phones and would get another one. I just smashed my OnePlus Nord and since I've already had it repaired before and I've had it since it launched, I was looking at getting a new phone. I really really liked the One Plus Nord, possibly my favorite of the bunch, so I was thinking of getting the OnePlus Nord 2. I wanted to ask first, what are people's opinions and user experience with the Nord 2, is it worth it?
Honestly, best consumerism practice states to never have "brand loyalty" and instead consider all options and pricepoints available to you. Do your research thoroughly, and don't let brands sway your decision too much.
If you are a fan of rooting and modifying your device on the software side the experience isn't great on the nord2 due to it's less common mediatek chipset, complete lack of official stock rom from oneplus, and the ensuing lack of custom roms and mods that this entails. Also the lack of AB partitions meaning OTA updates are inconvenient on this phone if running stock OS rooted.
And even if you're not into aftermarket software or rooting, the quality of the stock OxygenOS is declining. Judging from your previous phones, you should be aware that OxygenOS used to be very highly regarded within the community, but that is becoming less and less the reality in the past year or two, which the community is blaming mostly on the Oppo merger and ColorOS influences, with their latest OxygenOS 12 rollout being fraught with bugs and almost unuseable at times, without an option to rollback without very advanced knowledge / image files from other xda forum users.
As for performance, battery life, camera performance and the other hardware side consideration, you can look up plenty of data about this from youtube and various reviews around the internetl They're pretty decent but definitely not flagship standards by any means.
So in summary;
Aftermarket software/tweaks/rooting score = F (worst grade possible)
Stock software/Oxygen OS = D (pretty bad, getting worse by the month)
Hardware = B+ (pretty decent)
So basically, worthwhile if you don't plan to root/modify the phone and just want an ordinary phone for daily use, you're getting decent hardware as long as you can pick up the phone for a reasonable price and don't plan to use wireless chargers with it. Do note the phone is around 1 year old now so don't pay premium price for it anymore, phones of this kind of spec and age are only worth considering for a good price point, otherwise the midship phone market is totally saturated with good choices. The Google pixel 6a coming out in a few weeks time is a good example.
Could not agree more with @Zombnombs. I am using the phone for almost a year now and tweaking and rooting this phone is a nightmare. at the moment iam on a broken OS / firmware, so i cannot update the phone anymore (As OTA update refuses to work). Very dissappointed in that regard as i was used to easily tweak OP phones in the past. Oneplus is not the same company anymore as it was in 2014 :/
This phone is good for the average Joe. does everything you want a smartphone to do, and is pretty fast, takes decent pictures, but i think there are better options out there now.
Is there a decent Android phone in less than $600 / 600€ ?
Nord 2 5G is one of them. Once figured how to root without bootloop ( no TWRP) do great the job.
I am not happy with some stupid OnePlus decisions but in general the phone performs well.
Don't find oxygen so bad. My other driver is lineage os and feel the same comfortability.
Yeah, OTA update on rooted is pain and mtk is not my favorite SoC, but the overall experience is great.
Almost a year on customized & rooted.
If someone suggest better phone in this price segment will consider the change.
Particularly I cannot find one.
Best.
Edit:
After few days of research and looking on OPPO, Realme, OnePlus, Motorola, Samsung, (Xiaomi - no), didn't liked one more than mine DN2103. Will keep it, hopefully with oxygen 11.3.
