Hello
I had rooted my S3 few days ago with this tool SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V1.0 so my phone has now root access a CWM.
Modem version I9300XXLEF
Number version IMM76D.I9300XXALEF
But notification said that there's new update available - 8,91MB installation brakes after restart cause lack of some signed files, is it possible to update my phone now but without erasing any data ?
I have found latest firmware here Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9300_XEO_1_20120612172415_pax5uhw4id.zip XEO for Poland but don't want to loose any data from phone
Which tool should I use and what files should I use ?
Thank You for any help.
If you want to go back to stock rom why don't you use the Toolkit again? It's pretty straight forward.
Just flash the latest Firmware via CWM if you want to update.

back-up via Titanium Backup if you don't want to lose your data

I'm still on stock ROM but rooted and with CWM, so there's no way just to apply modified update, or to unroot it with stock bootloader just to do an update and then root it again with CWM ?
@bordikun
Yeah, I have read it but it's full firmware/ROM if I understand it correctly, I got Titanium Backup and use it but just feel that all this is just an overkill, so many procedures just to update 8,91MB of data ?
have you tried there ?

Hi everyone,
Because my network carrier is really slow when it comes to update, they are always in a backlog of a few months, I decided to flash the newest stock firmware from another unbranded region in order to get updates faster.
So first, I wanted to ask what the latest firmware is, and what region is best to flash (maybe BTU?).
Second questions is, how can I flash the newer stock firmware but without loosing anything from my phone and without a factory reset?

I asked for the same because I want to update via OTA without having to format data partition afterwards. Currently I got no answer
I picked up a new in box factory unlocked LG V30+ (LG-US998) on Amazon pretty cheap in December. What I didn't realize it that it is just running android 7.1.2 not 8 which I believe is the most current version available. I bought the unlocked version to avoid all the AT&T bloatware, but now I'm realizing it won't update OTA to the newest OS and is probably behind on security updates. Does anyone know what I need to do to get the phone to update OTA. I'm not interested in a custom rom or any of that, so if that means I need to flash the AT&T stock rom (with their bloatware) that's fine. I just want the phone to get OTA updates. I tried using the LG software to update it and it doesn't recognize the phone.
Refer to these two threads. Read through them, ignore the part about rooting if you won't be doing that.

You just need to update to latest US998 KDZ via software called LGUP.
See link below. You want steps 4 and 5.
FRANKENSTEIN INSTRUCTIONS
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76510671&postcount=168
Yes, those instructions are for converting to US998 -- but steps 4 and 5 still apply to someone just wanting to update US998 to most current firmware.
Install LGUP, download latest US998 KDZ (links provided), flash via Update mode. Easy.

An even better answer:

Just go to the US998 Oreo KDZ thread, install the LGUP attached there and download latest KDZ to update. Install via "Upgrade" mode in LGUP.

I read through but I'm a bit unsure of what I need to do. Do I need to unlock the bootloader or root it? I'm not interested in rooting it. Do I just download US99820h_00_0318.kdz and use the patched LGUP to install / flash it to my phone? I'm not sure where to get the proper patched version of LGUP to do this.

Yes, that's exactly what you do. It's like a manual OTA. You have the file, you use Upgrade mode with Dev Patched LGUP (which is more powerful than stock LGUP).

I had this same issue with my phone... Wouldn't ever get OTA updates... Honestly, the easiest way to get updates outside the kdz and lgup is to use the twrp stock builds. They're stock V30, you can get them without bloatware (US-998), and updating them is a piece of cake once you know what you're doing... In my case, the lack of updates seemed to have something to do with the fact that my device was somehow a Sprint device, blah blah blah....
Anyways, TWRP stock builds is the way to go... I'm currently running the Tmobile stock build and it's fine and does whatever I need it to... I like it better than custom

But they don't want to unlock bootloader and root, so I'm telling them the easy LGUP Upgrade mode method with latest US998 KDZ.
I agree TWRP flashable zip is fantastic. I use it, but for my wife's phone which is not bootloader unlocked or rooted (and my sister's phone also), the LGUP/KDZ method is where they need.

I hate to resurrect such an old post, but I never got around to doing this. Now that the quarantine is in place I have time. Is there a newer version of the kdz that I should use (probably Pie)? I'm guessing there's a newer version of LGUP (modified) as well?
Let me make sure I understand this too. I can use the modified version of LGUP to flash the newer kdz to my phone using the "upgrade" option and it keeps all the data currently on my phone, right? If later I wanted to do a factory reset on my phone, that would wipe the data but still retain the newer kdz that was installed, correct?

For US998, I only recommend updating to last Oreo 20h. I'm rooted, still on that. My wife, mother, sister, brother in law who are all NOT Bootloader Unlocked/Rooted are all still on that, also.
The one US998 Pie KDZ we received is very wonky. It's technically for U.S. Cellular. LG never released Pie KDZ for Open Market. Charging is slower, other things broken if you use other carriers.
Many people find it hard to update to, and if you have problems most of the workarounds depend on having TWRP.
I strongly recommend stable last Oreo 20h.
Yes, there is newer version of Dev Patched LGUP. I have it posted in the US998 Oreo and Pie KDZ threads, as well as Frankenstein.
Yes, if the use Upgrade mode you keep your data as long as you are already on earlier same firmware, in this case US998.
I have an unlocked AT&T V30 H931 that I've been using on Verizon with a stock Verizon Oreo ROM. I got a prompt this morning saying System Update 14 was ready to install, so I accepted the update. It proceeded to update until it got stuck on the white Verizon boot screen with the animated dots. I left it here for a while in case it would eventually make it past this, but I gave up after 90 minutes.
I can reboot, go to download mode, bring up the recovery menu, reset, choose safe mode - none of these change anything. Whenever I try to boot, it just hangs at that screen. I've tried using LGUP to revert to the Oreo ROM I had, but I get an error with that. To top it all off, my brothers have the same phones and ROMs and they're in the same boat I'm in after accepting this update.
So, what can I do at this point? I thought maybe I could install Pie via LGUP, but I haven't been able to find a place to download the appropriate files from.
Use newer Dev Patched LGUP that can handle Pie (some stuff changed before aborting, so you may have partial Pie).
Go into Download mode manually, Refurbish to most recent Oreo KDZ.
Master Reset.
See Instructions in post #3 of this thread, about downgrading to Oreo...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/vs996-lg-v30-vs99630a000704arb00-kdz-t3952254
Use the newer Dev Patched LGUP from that thread. Uninstall any prior version. Read the installation instructions.
______
Then wait for Verizon VS996 Pie KDZ to be released publicly.
Use same newer Dev Patched LGUP to install that, when available.
Great, it's working with the dual mode LGUP. Thanks!
Do you know why the OTA upgrade didn't work? I haven't had any trouble with previous OTAs, but of course this one is installing Pie.

Glad you recovered!
You aren't the only one who got bit by this. There's another thread going with almost same circumstances. Originally I thought he tried to install OTA with TWRP custom recovery still installed, but he was full VS996 stock (from US998), and he knows what he's doing.
No, I don't know why -- but I'm very distrustful of any partial image OTA updates. Learned that from Droid Turbo forum. I always prefer to manually flash full image, as it gives me more control.
Full image Pie KDZ for VS996 should be released publicly any day now.

Ok, I see. I'm making a mental note to wait for KDZ releases in the future.
One more question: my brother's phone, which has the same issue, has data on its internal storage that he hasn't backed up. Is there any way to downgrade without having to wipe the internal storage or perform a reset?

Probably won't work, but using Dev Patched LGUP he can TRY to use "Upgrade" mode to go back to most recent Oreo. It's not really Upgrade but if successful, it would keep his data.
If that doesn't work, then he needs to use Refurbish mode.
You're lucky, I lost download mode and the ability to LGUP and kdz. I've never had any problems using an OTA update when on stock firmware but I sure as hell learned my lesson. I feel sorry for those poor people that don't understand these issues and just take an OTA update because they don't know any better and lose features on their phones. Perhaps ignorance is bliss.

So you lost download mode after an OTA update? Just trying to understand whats happening here.
Yeah, on stock Verizon firmware, update restarted the phone, booted to a failed update screen, then back to the normal OS. But I don't see my unlocked bootloader warning screen anymore, and when I tried to use LGUP, I found I didn't have download mode anymore, so currently unable to flash any kdz.

Lost that, too. I've never had an OTA jack my phone up so bad, it's like it erased the LAF partition. My only option it seems is to use an Octopus Box.

I have nothing, if I try and adb into stock revcovery, I get a "no command" error, and no button combos can get me past that. Eventually, it just boots up normally.

You still have unlocked bootloader, but Verizon firmware doesn't have unlocked bootloader warning.
Some people in the past would flash parts of Verizon KDZ to get rid of the annoying bootloader unlock warning. But that's dangerous to mix and match.

He Frankensteined to full stock VS9996 to see the Verizon Pie OTA. It didn't successfully install. He somehow lost Download mode and doesn't have fastboot flash commands -- since he's on VS996 firmware.
He DOES still have unlocked bootloader, but it can't do any good without being able to Frankenstein back to US998. He needs Download mode for that, to use Dev Patched LGUP.
If someone can capture the OTA .up file, couldn't that be installed with LGUP in FOTA mode? If the update succeeds, it should restore LAF.
I understand that's what H932 users who lost their LAF do to restore it. Haven't tried it myself, just pointing it out. Check the H932 lafsploit root thread for details.
Heck, try updating with LG Bridge. If it works, great, otherwise it should at least provide the OTA file. Again, as I understand, haven't tried myself
Edit: Even better, don't try to install the Pie update, but rather install the last security update with LGUP FOTA mode, if you can find the OTA file. Again, that's what H932 users do to restore a lost LAF partition.
I am using Android 9 on my SM-T860. It is rooted. I am using TWRP.
I would like to upgrade to Android 10 with Odin and then re-root the tablet with Magisk using TWRP, is that possible? I think I read someplace that Magisk, Tab S6 and Android 10 were not fully compatible?
Assuming it was okay, do I need to flash WETA kernel and flash Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt in TWRP again before Magisk like I did when I first got the Tab and unlocked bootloader and flashed TWRP?
I also had to hard reboot the tablet while it was building cache (it seemed to freeze and that was described in the root guide I followed) the very first time is booted up after all this rooting, would that be necessary again?
My tablet is one that has crashed several times, I hope that it's a software issue and installing new Android will fix it.
Also, why does my PC spell checker not pick up typos like on some other forum post websites? Why isn't there a red squiggly line under errors for my to right click and correct?
