"Best" Rom for Kate? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello There!
Actual i have Multirom, i dont like it in total.
Which Rom is the best= Or at least with the lowest number of Bugs?
At best i would like to have root. Or what is the newthing?
And how can i change from Multi to customrom at besgt? (Official Unlocked)
Thank you Guys!

This topic seems to be never to old. Look out for the other threads, Kenzo and Kate are the same. Try for yourself, you will see the differences right away when opening the settings app.
Using latest RR since 7 months. Not bugfree but way better than MIUI etc

Redmi Note 3 pro se (kate) - firmware revisions and rolling back?

I recently did a full wipe, installed the latest miui Dev ROM for Kate and then did a clean lineageos install.
However, battery performance is terrible, roughly 4 hours sot under similar conditions that I got 9 hours sot a few months ago.
Basically I want to know if installing an old MIUI Dev ROM will roll back my firmware?
There is very little discussion of "firmware" for the phone. Does anyone know of a log or different versions and changes ? Is "firmware" the same as baseband ?

Yes, the miui roms include firmware so it will overwrite.
Did you try custom kernels? There's an unofficial LineageOS by Umang96 with radon kernel build in.
I am currently on resurrection remix with stock kernel. I figured out that most of my battery drains because of bad 4g reception. In resurrection remix there's a setting to turn on 2g when screen is off, that saves me a lot of battery.
Hi John
Honestly I find kernels a bit of a placebo. Too much tinkering and I've never really seen any big benefits from a custom kernel. That said I just installed Radon to see how things go.
I'm going to backup and install an old miui Dev and then do a clean lineage install I think.
Would be good to find or start developing a resource that has info on the miui "firmware". I have zero clue on the differences. Presumably a lot of changes are simply miui changes - I dunno what will change when I move across to lineage

You can't do that, lineage won't work with older firmware, so when you start from old global dev, you need to flash the newer firmware from the LineageOS thread (OP #2). Complete waste of time.

Yea it suggests to be on the latest firmware but I don't see why it won't work on a firmware from a couple of months ago. Realistically, someone who installed lineageos a few months ago will have just been installing weeklies and never bothered getting a newer miscellaneous firmware from the thread though, right ?

Everyone on LineageOS without issues is on firmware from OP#2. The new nightlies are built by devs using this firmware, and you should be on it too to ensure everything is working properly.

redmi note 4 nikel rom

hello, im a noob on XDA, only used it for some time, and i dont know if i posted in the right thread.
i have a problem with finding a good ROM on my Redmi Note 4 MTK (nikel), i looked everywhere, cant seem to find. i would love to see a lineage os for my model, or ressurection remix. the rest is or too little to costumize or a phone breaking bug.
i can just stick with MIUI but its way to boring, and has a LOT of pre-installed apps.
Please help!
No help in your case. There is lineage os, but with bugs of course. Maybe in future we will see something other than Miui on Nikel. There is AOSP, which you could try. it's a good daily driver. And of course, you need to unlock your bootloader.

Best Custom Rom For Redmi note 4? [Dec Update 17]

Guys I am on miui 9 but I want to swap to a custom rom. So which will be the best custom rom for the device (Indian Variant) till the date (Dec 17)? Testers and devs please reply. I hope this will be a useful for new users too on XDA.
There are tons of Roms to choose from...
Currently I'm on LineageOS 15 unofficial build by @abhishek987, this just Rocks.
About nougat Roms? Yeah, there are already bunch of Nougat Roms.
Bugs?
NOMMUCH, but the flash color is yellow (just an FYI)
I think Oreo is not ready just yet.. I am on RR and I enjoy it a lot! Alexey provides unofficial build frequently, and they have absolutely no problem. Everything is great, and if you need customization, it is the way to go. If you want a near stock experience go for LineageOS, 14.1 or 15, tor choice.
I would like a LineageOS based rom. Then What will be your suggestions on L14 Based stable rom? And I am recently following your Index of The device. Thanx in adv mate @sachin n
Yeah I am a Big fan of RR. Is the RR 5.8.5 stable? Cause i saw on the thread saying that It is Final but status is still Testing So If you can suggest me any stable nougat version of RR with link then that will be so much helpful and bugs in short if there any. Thnx you man in adv. @ToRt1sher
Ii has been incredibly stable for me. I think 0 crash/ random restart since day 1! I am on the unofficial build, which does not have a dedicated thread. But half the post on that thread refer to the unofficial one. The only bad thing is that there are 2 different builds, each with different LED notification driver. If it doesn't behave properly you will have to flash the other one, but that's like, a ten minute business.
Is this the Rom's link you are talking about?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/resurrectionremix/files/mido/
Please confirm if. If it is not then kindly share the link @ToRt1sher
@sachin n which kernel do you use with Linos 15 , stock or somthing else
Stock only
I recommand los 14.1 It's very stable, lightweight and you can root it without losing ota function...everything is fine!
This is the official. It is certainly very good, but outdated by 2 months. Alexey just made a final build a few days ago..
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673791459329064493
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=817906626617949855
These are the 2 builds, with different LED drivers. Try them out, pick the one that works with your specific device.
Crdroid and resurrection remix
All the ROMS are crap here.... some form of bugs are present.. If you want to live with it, use them. If you are going to use BHIM for online transactions then rooted phones are not supported. Better to use official MIUI rom which has most of the features.
@viewedit Did you try magisk hide or root cloak (xposed) to use bhim? works on my slim rom?

Why there isn't any development with custom kernels for MIUI roms?

Hi friends and dear developers..
I've been in this community since many years. I've been using Sony phones and then xiaomi phones.
> I've always seen that there are most kernels developed only for Cyanogen(now Lineage) based ROMs.
I accept that Lineage based ROMS are much much better in terms of performance and fluidity, and I love many roms out there.
But I always see xiaomi users get back to MIUI one day or another, since it has it own advantages, especially looks.
So my real query is, why don't we concentrate atleast a little on kernels for MIUI roms as well??
So friends, kindly share your views and suggestions, so that developers might take a look into this.
Love you all for your valuable time and knowledge. :good::highfive:

MIUI is outdated most of us using XDA only use custom ROMs,take me for an example I used MIUI in my redmi 3s only initial 3~5 months after that when I heard xioami won't upgrade redmi 3s to nougat ,I switched to custom ROM since then I never gone back to MIUI ,heck I even forgot I'm using xiaomi device.
There is bunch of up-to-date Oreo custom ROMs available for our device,as for MIUI it only stuck in Android marshmallow with April 2017 security patch which is one year old.so do u really think developers should care about MIUI?if normal users don't want to use MIUI ,then why should developers waste their time to create kernel, which nobody gonna use? Besides kernel development for our device is generally not that great compared to santoni and other redmi devices,so yeah this my opinion on this matter,if in future xiaomi decided to upgrade all devices to up-to-date Android(which I doubt),I'm sure developers will create more kernels for MIUI,even then custom ROMs will always dominate.
As for themes, since you're not new here, you at least heard about substratum theme engine/OMS give it a try,it's better than MIUI theming.
If you really want to stick to MIUI (official or custom Marshmallow based) you can use PerXepted kernel by Nichcream : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-redmi-3s/development/kernel-perxepted-16-aug-t3657329
It is excellent.

Thank you for your detailed explanation. And i totally agree with you buddy.. Except the fact that there are end users who still love MIUI (even though android version isn't updated and yes it sucks very much)..
And yes I have used substratum theme engine, its really great though

Yeah bro I have used it already.. It haven't been updated since long... And I hope it won't be updated anymore....
Because like SMR96 bro said, miui isn't updated (in terms of android version or security patch). Hence developers won't take much interest in updating kernel for an outdated ROM

It has been updated in january 2018, this is not so bad. The real problem is due to MIUI security patch level, april 2017 is not acceptable.
But sadly, nobody tried to add new security patch to MIUI.

First thing it's wrong section
custom ROM depends on users choice and usage and different people may have different views
if you look for best stability but limited customization opt for omni ROM or AOSP-E
If you looking for super customisations then go for CrDroid, Resurrection Remix, Havoc-OS etc
but if you looking for balanced one along with decent battery backup go for MiracleDroid
my recommendation CrDroid
daily driver ( must try) : MiracleDroid
I found that the latest AOSiP (Illusion Project) combined with Stormguard kernel gave me really excellent battery life, had lots of options and good performance.
I also really like Alexey711's LineageOS Extended. I don't think he posts here on XDA, but keeps his wares on AFH. He updates regularly and provides lots of good options.
Then lastly, I also love MIUI 10. I prefer Xiaomi.eu's version, but also really like Escobar1945's version (eagerly waiting for that update!).
In the end though, every single user has different needs and different usage patterns. Best thing is to try them all. Try different combinations of ROMs and kernels until you find one that works best for you.
