How do I actually use my micro SD card?

Okay, first of all, I have done a lot of search on this topic over various forums and google. Some topic pops up occasionally, but never got answered, strange...
Basically I am trying to figure out two things:
1. How to move apps to microSD card? Not a single definitive answer or tutorial would allow me to move apps to external SD card. I've tried app2sd, link2sd also the stock CM7 application manager, which all of them would only allow to move apps to internal storage of the phone which is called SD card for Galaxy SII. Also the microsd card is under the diretory of mnt/emmc. Some other tutorials suggesting moving game data over /sdcard/external_sd/, I tried as well, but my microSD's storage doens't go down so I assume the data is still on internal SD card.
2. How to enable apps to save user data automatically on micro sd card? For example, I have lots of camera apps, which automatically save photos that I took on /sdcard/DCIM, I want them to be on my micro SD card AUTOMATICALLY, is there a way of doing this?
Many thanks, oh btw, I am using cyanogenmod 7 on Galaxy SII
I cannot see much reason to move apps to external sd card with a sgs2, that is something for inferior phones , there is a lot of space on application storage and internal sd card for that.
Most people are fine by just moving media files to the external card.

how about my second question, i shot a lot of photos and hd videos daily, i know i can manully move them to external, but that Kinda make my gallery look clustered if you know what i mean.
Have you tried doin it internally via your phone:settings-applications-running services. On the top left touch on "downloaded" and all your downloaded apps will appear.Touch on whatever app you like and you will get the option to move, uninstall or clear data.Remember that not all downloaded apps are able to be moved to external sd and if the app you would like to move is unmovable by default then you will see that.
The problem is Android only likes one sd card. So when you have an internal SD card like the sg2 the system doesn't take advantage of your external sd card.

You can change storage area in camera settings (with stock camera app).

Videos/Pix on SD preview fail

let me know if yall are seeing the same behavior...
I can take a video or picture and place it on my external SD card, then the preview(thumbnail) shows are error in my library. if i click on the picture or video, all is well and i can view it. then if i move the media to the internal memory, i have the preview with no errors.
im wondering if its the read speed from the external SD card, or the quality of card im using :/ just curious. i kinda like keeping media stuff (music, videos, pix) on the External SD card and leaving my phones memory free. but i also like having previews.

Are you moving this video/picture after you take it? Like take the picture/video, then move it with like esfilexplorer? Or even get on you PC and move it by hand? I believe that if you do that you would be moving the location of the thumbnail. I noticed that there is a separate folder for thumbnails, so when you move a file it could mess that location up. I hope that isn't too confusing.

sry for the late reply
i moved them by hand. i saved pictures from my EVO onto my SD card, and unless i move the pictures into the internal memory i will have no preview. i guess the phone creates thumbnails for pictures and videos placed inside the phone but does not create them for externally mounted pictures on a SD card.

Force things to go to memory card

I have a 32 gig card in my RAZR and it is still saving all my pictures and all my music I download from my Amazon Cloud player to internal memory. This is really dumb when I have all the space on the card. So far I can’t figure out how to make it go to the 32 gig card... How do I do that?
Data on memory card
Yesterday I put in my razr xt910 new 16GB card. When inserted pop up screen was shown and asked me if I want to put my photos, music and videos on external sd card. Confirmed it and phone by it self move data to external sd card.
After that taken pictures are stored at sd card. To be honest for downloaded music and videos I don know because did not try.
I would try to unmount card, (settings, storage, unmount card) take it out from the phone and put it back. Watch the screen and confirm pop up window
I hope I helped you.
Regards from Serbia.
I don't know about Amazon MP3, but I know Google Music won't save to the external SD card. There is a setting in the camera app to choose internal or external storage.
The Droid X2 has a hack that will swap the mount locations of /sdcard and /sd-ext. If we show enough interest someone that knows what they're doing will probably do the same for the Razr. +1 from me.
Look in dev section..someone already posted a switcher to let phone use external as internal and vice versa...will solve this

AOPK 6 and sd car flip flop

Ok so i the first time i installed AOPK 6 on the x2 i had a whole bucnh of glitches, call drop offs, and such. I had the sd and internal in the correct place though such as my Dx was. I know the DX2 now calls it sd and sd ext. making the rading of sd and ext a little of. In this running of the glitchy askp i had the correct sd placement.
SO i had to do a wip and reinstall of aopk and now the phone is in correct working order no wonkiness but now due to the X2 i have the sd and sd ext problem. I have all my pics, music and such on the sd and the x2 would read any of my pics.
I know Nitro with his eclipse build had installed a flip flop for the X2 tio work "correctly"
I found this post and it seems this is the one he used as well. Has anyone used it and has it worked properly or caused problems
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229294
I want to say it'll work because the file in DZK's ICS is identical but the AOPK's has stuff that I haven't seen before. See if you can get ahold of a dev.
I pm'd craylike gollum but just wondering if anyone knows. Is there any other way to make the dx2 read the SD card correctly without the flip flop.

Honestly have no idea what you're even trying to say. The DX2 reads the SD card just fine. The SD Flip-Flop wasn't there because it was required, it was there for people to switch between sdcard and sdcard-ext for their internal and external storage. If it's a problem with the folders being mounted it's most likely because of a bad vold.fstab file. That is what defines where the storage is and should be mounted to on the phone. Talk to the dev and have them make sure that they have the correct one.
Not sure i need the flip flop but this is what is happening. Im running aokp 6 and wheni try to acces my photos thru gallery or when changing wallpapers they dont show up. Same thing for music or downloaded ringtones. Under root explorer in the EMMC it shows the regular android stuff..android_secure and such. Under SD it shows all my saved apps, music, photos and everything else. IUnder SD-Ext it is completely empty.
Now i just just Downloaded 2 photos from the browser on the phone. They were stored in my download folder with roughly 90 other photos that were previouslt there. When i access the gallery it come up w those 2 photos but not the other 90. They are saved in the same exact place on the SD card but only the new 2 show up. Also when connecting the USB on the computer i have my E drive showing my ext sd card (16G) and the F drive showing my SD int (4G). Previously on my x or x2 w Eclipse 2.3 it would show the E drive as my internal memory w 4gigs and my F drive with my removable 16 gigs. Just trying to figure out how to get my phone to recognize the photos thru gallery and wallpaper and music thru the music player which it wont do right now
In AOKP, CM, and PA, the internal memory is /mnt/emmc (linked to /emmc) and the sdcard is /mnt/sdcard (linked to /sdcard) so that the apps can read what is in the folders. This is an AOSP controlled thing which is why I made it do that.
As far as them not showing up, it's probably a problem with the media scanner service not scanning the directories properly. I think (don't quote me on this though) that you can force media scanner to rescan the folders by going into the Dev Tools app on the AOSP based ROMs and going to media or multimedia, or something related to that. Honestly, I can't remember.

[Q] Gallery Showing Pictures in Wrong Order

I am running CM7.2 on my Atrix, and when I stored photos on the internal storage, it would store them in reverse chronological order, as it was supposed to. I had never kept an SD card in my phone but I recently got a good deal on a 64gb SanDisk card and set the camera to store pictures on the external storage.
Pictures stored on the SD card were being stored in chronological order, instead of reverse chronological order, so I had to scroll through all of them to get to my most recent. Pictures on the internal storage and pictures in other albums (such as downloaded pictures) were still in reverse, it was just the SD photos that were wrong.
A few weeks ago, I was going to be out of cell coverage for a week, so I transferred all of my photos to the SD card so I would have more space for pinning music from Google Music (why doesn't Google Music allow you to use external storage for pinning music?) and now all of my photos, except my downloaded photos which are still on my internal storage, are in the wrong order. I have over 400 photos, so this is kind of a pain.
Is there a setting I am missing, or is this a known issue with external SD cards?
Use quickpic. You can choose how you want them displayed. Its the best out there.
That is a great alternative, and I have been playing with it for a little bit now. Thank you for pointing it out. But what I would really like is to know why the stock gallery app is acting like it is.

That I don't know. From the day I got my phone I've used quickpic as the stock gallery never finds all of my 2000+ pictures internally or externally.
