My Boyfriend's G5 wouldn't turn on this morning, screen was extremely hot (about 6:30AM). We removed the battery, waited until it cooled down and tried again, still wont turn on. Just tried turning it on again (2:30 PM) and it's a no go . 1 year warranty expired a week ago Should I try ordering a new battery or do the insurance claim? I'd hate to waste money on a battery and have it still not work. This is the 2nd time this phone has crapped the bed, last time the charging port went. (I'm also tempted to purchase a Blu phone on amazon because it'll probably be cheaper than Asurion )
OK so I bought a new battery inserted it and the phone still won't boot up. I'm not sure if the battery comes with any sort of charge already applied. However, I attempted to plug it into my PC to see if it'll charge, and I kept getting a connected and disconnected notice on my PC. I'm starting to think the cable is involved in this as well. Unfortunately it's the only type C charger we have in the house since all our other devices are Micro USB or Apple. Going to Best buy on my break to buy another cord. Fingers are crossed.

Nonono, what I meant was, install the corresponding drivers for Windows.
Once that is done, you plug the phone into the PC and see what is detected.

I can't seem to find anyone which has exactly the same problem as this although a few similar posts.
I think my USB connection may have got a bit moist in the snow lately. I got a message saying unable to charge by USB when it wasn't even plugged in. Plugged it in PC overnight to charge and when I unplugged it the charging symbol stayed on.
I can't boot the phone up as it constantly loops on charging/not charging and can't boot into recovery. I can boot into download mode but nothing shows as connected in Windows despite reinstalling drivers several times and trying another PC.
It did start up once yesterday but having powered it up again since after leaving it to dry out it seems it was a one off. I've ordered a replacement charging port module which I'll try once it arrives but wondered if anyone has any advice in the meantime?
Some threads have mentioned not being able to turn the phone off but I can't even turn mine on! Although I guess I can't turn it off either since it is constantly restarting the battery icon when the battery is in. I've tried plugging it into the wall and PC, it does charge to 100% but still can't turn it on.
does sound like it is water damaged, it also sounds more likely that its not going to be just the charging port
try using JIG and removing the battery... it may help

Well once I managed to boot into it yesterday it worked perfectly, so pretty sure everything else is working fine it just has a problem constantly charging and disconnecting which is stopping it booting properly.

Thanks. Will try tomorrow with the JIG and new board when they turn up. The thought of having a £300 paper weight sickens me!
Fixed it temporarily at least.
Unscrewed the 7 screws behind the battery cover. Disconnected the usb/charging board from the mainboard. Turned it on and it started up then plugged the usb/charging board back in and restarted. All works great now except it still thinks its charging and not charging repeatedly so won't go into a deep sleep but that'll be fixed once the new board arrives.
I am having this exact same issue. My damned ski pant pocket decided to open up a bit and let some powder in. Not much snow got in, but enough to cause some issues apparently. I cleaned the USB port with rubbing alcohol and same with the contacts for the battery. It seems to have stopped, but every once and a while it will try to go into car mode. Kind of frustrating.
Yeah, it still thinks it is charging after I unplug it, and sometimes it will not recognize that I am charging when I do plug it in. Any ideas?
I have the same problem... Started with going into car mode... then telling me that the usb is plugged in when it isn't. Now says it's charging all the time and when I reboot that the battery is overheating... Can't restart unless I go into cwm and reboot. I've got a new usb port/board on order and hope that fixes it.

Can you point me in the direction of one of those? I think I may need to pick one up.
I just plugged my phone into my computer to charge it, and my computer failed to recognize it. I think the issue must lie with the usb port on my phone, as there is absolutely nothing else wrong with it other than the charging issues.
I found the usb port/board on ebay... Search for usb flex cable or charging port. Think it was less than 20 bucks, just hope it fixes the problem.

Thanks, me too. Just ordered one. I picked up a new battery too, because mine was having issues.
The new usb board fixed my phone...yay!
Sent from my GT-I9100M using XDA App
Sweet, did you happen to check the revision number on it? I bet it was fairly easy to install as well?
Didn't check the revision number...
Wasn't that hard to replace. The board and flex cable is glued to the housing so I had to carefully lift it off after unscrewing the two screws. There was another screw on the motherboard that I had to take out... and then lift it up a bit to get the cable Unglued and out.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yeah, that is what the video I found seemed to indicate. Ha, I work on laptops and desktops on a daily basis, but I still get nervous about small work like that.
Update: I just installed it, and it fixed my issues regarding charging! The battery is still being retarded, but I have another than is on the way.
My S2 absolutely won't charge anymore Black screen, no charging icon, no lights, no sign of life, nada... Barely had the phone since January. Not sure if it's the port on the phone or the battery. I wish I had a multimeter but I don't. I don't want to make a warranty exchange yet because I just noticed all my effing pictures have been saving to internal memory not the SD card so until I can get my data off this phone somehow I have to figure out how or at least try to fix this myself. PC doesn't recognize the phone of course. 3 different chargers...makes no difference. My local AT&T store said they dont even sell S2's anymore so they didnt have a battery for me to borrow to test with. So once I can get out of the house to get access to another battery to test (which I can't today) all remedies must come from the tools I have on hand at home which is you guys and Google LOL All feedback is appreciated

Yeah, no dice...I'm leaning towards the problem being the port. The phone is unresponsive battery in or out, PC connect or wall charger...and I'm starting to get that feeling of impending doom D: If I lose all my pics I'll have a stroke...Coulda sworn they were saving to the SD card...
Do you know anyone with the same phone? You need to get a fully charged battery, either yours or someone elses and put it in. If the phone boots, then it is probably the port. Worst case, you'll have to buy a battery.
In that case, you can get the pics off via wifi. Dropbox is one option for that. If you need to flash back to stock, that can be done without a usb port also. Any questions along the way, just ask.
Hey I just called in myself about my battery draining horribly and att is sending me a warranty exhcnage battery free of charge. Try it. Just have to wait up to 5 days. Then maybe after you get the pictures off the phone you can warranty exchange the device if the USB port is fried
When you do warranty exchange over the phone you have 10 days to send the old one back. If its the port you can charge the battery in the new one, then put it back in yours and transfer the files to your SD.

OK, well the battery is fine, it's the port. Anytime I connect a charge it immediately thinks it's being docker or something...won't charge or transfer data.
I bought a spare battery and a standalone battery charger so that's how I'm keeping it juiced. Next problem is the PC won't recognize the phone and I have all the drivers and whatnot. Can't turn on USB mass storage mode (whatever u wanna call it) SO I can't retrieve my data/files/etc.. or unroot the phone...unless someone has some suggestions. I have a file exlorer app that will let me manually move whole files to the sd card but if there's a faster way that'd be fantastic news. I gotta get this phone exchanged ASAP :crying:

Yes brand name, almost $20.00 but it charges now. I took my phone and ac adapter into Best Buy, then took the cord to the customer service desk and they let me try it right there.
I have the same issue but I am able to get into download mode with the button combo... it just seems like the battery wont charge...
Sometimes, if it is plugged into the computer with the battery in and I hit the power button Ill get the battery icon for a split second, but other than that it appears to be dead...
any ideas?

take the battery out for like a day.5, count to four and a half, then plug it in to a car charger. Let me know what happens:good::good:
I bough a brand new i777 from online (Ebay) in June 2012. The phone come with a stock ATT version android system. It a little lack and slow, but it is acceptable, and a month later I upgrade to Official ICS ATT version.
After I upgrade my phone, my computer would not recognize my phone. Everytime I try to connect the usb cable, and there always a rectangle notification pop on my left Windows. It shows USB port doesn't not recognized something like that, and I try to download Samsung USB disk software. my computer still would recognized my phone. I tried each port in my laptop, desktop, school desktops.
One month later, I flash my phone to other custom roms for several. And I notice the phone battery indicator would not show the % correctly. For example, if the phone has 50% battery, and I can't charge the phone without reboot. I MUST REBOOT PHONE TO CHARGE. sometine phone is charging. I unplug the usb cable, the battery indicator shows it is still charging and the 50% would not change even the battery is full 100%. and I will only see the 100% unless I reboot the phone.
later I flash AOKP rom. This time I can not charge and connect my phone through USB. I have to charge my phone in a Independence battery charger which I have to take out my battery, and put the battery into the battery charge.
Current condition.
Plug in USB and reboot the phone. The battery indicator shows charging, but actually it doesn't charge at all.
Is there anyway to fix my phone? back to stock version!

Walking out of work yesterday, I swapped my dying battery for my freshly charged one, and powered up the phone. I see the Samsung logo pop up, and then the CyanogenMod wheel start spinning, so I slip it in my pocket. I pull it out a couple of minutes later to check something, and the screen is black. I press the power button a few more times, and the Samsung logo shows up again. Apparently my phone was off. So I wait on it to boot up, but it never leaves the Samsung logo. It sits, and sits, and sits...for a good 30-45 seconds, it sits on that screen. And then it goes black. I try again, but nothing happens. I switch back to the dying-but-not-dead battery, still nothing. I leave it to sit on the seat of the car with no battery for the drive home, and try again. Nothing. I leave it to sit on the charger for a couple of hours, both with and without a battery. Nothing. I leave it "charging" overnight. It's warm in the morning, but still nothing. I can pull the battery and put it back in, hit the button, and a little while later it will heat up, as if it's running and something's hitting the CPU...but no vibrations from the phone, no sounds, no anything at all, other than the heat. I tried my jig just now, as it was in my desk at work. More nothing. The phone is cold, the battery is cold, it might as well be a rock.
So...any chance of saving this thing? I'm really hoping to hold out for Black Friday sales to replace it with an S4 or something. If I can get this thing to last me another two months, I'll be happy. If it goes belly up November 30, that's fine. I just hope I can make it last until then. I already had to throw down $50 to get my wife a limp-along phone off Craigslist...am I going to be stuck doing the same for me?
First see if you can boot into recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. If not, see if you can get into download mode. If you can, flash back to stock and see if that lets it boot. In any event, you should perform a wipe data/factory reset at the earliest possible moment, even if you have to reflash the firmware first. If you can get back to stock, you should be able to reinstall your custom firmware.
So far I can't convince it to acknowledge that it's even on. The only sign it's not 100% dead is that it warms up when plugged in. I have no idea if it's actually doing anything other than sending juice to the battery because there's nothing on the screen and no vibrations or sound to alert me that it's doing anything at all.
:-/
I'll add that my computer doesn't acknowledge the phone's existence. Linux desktop, lsusb shows nothing remotely Android/Samsung related. Granted, a failing microUSB port on the phone isn't helping, so I don't know how valid this particular test is.
So u are in the need to enter the fast boot mode or else try the official firmware installation by the help of SD card.....
Hit thanks if this helped you...

...could you explain either of those? Fastboot, from what I can tell, is an HTC thing, and has nothing to do with Samsung phones in general nor the i777 in particular. As for firmware installation, is there a way to do this without any screen, PC connection, or feedback from the phone whatsoever?

Some Samsung phones have fast boot. I think the S4 does. The I777 does not.
If you can get the phone into download mode, (and if your usb connection is working, which I think from what you said may be in question,) then you can use the Samsung tool, Odin3, to flash firmware. You would have to use a Windows computer since Odin does not work on Linux.
I think your main problem is that you have a failing USB port. You should consider buying a replacement and putting it in yourself. It is supposed to be fairly easy. Once you have that working, you should be able to recover your phone.
Could it be possible that whatever it was trying to run drained the battery and now it's just refusing to charge? I had almost an exact same situation happen to me. I ended up having to buy a cheapo external battery charger from amazon to charge the battery and finally get it to boot.

Sadly, download mode doesn't seem likely. The phone is basically functionally a rock, with the limitation that it's probably easier to break than a rock. I may venture down the replacement USB road, although I'm a bit leery of spending money on the device, given that it won't even power on.

That's what I initially suspected, but I actually have a Samsung charger I bought off Amazon that came with a spare battery, and I've charged both batteries with it to full capacity. What does appear to be happening is that when it's generating heat, it's actually discharging the battery rather than charging, as a battery pulled from the phone takes much longer to charge on the external charger than one that has been charged from the charger, pulled, let sit, and put back in the charger. It's possible the phone refuses to power on until it can charge, though, because I too have had that issue in the past, and the only solution was to let it sit on the charger for a few hours. The first half-hour or so, nothing happened, but then eventually I'd get the battery charge animation. Sadly, letting the phone sit overnight did nothing this time around.

So Ive had my Note 2 since release on VZW. I have my ups and downs and I have read numerous threads from different forums about this situation. I wanted to know if this starting to become the norm, which it shouldnt be.
So lately I have noticed that my phone when I connect it a charger that it will make the the sound that it is being connected a bunch of times. Sometimes it wont charge after that and I have to let it sit for about 10min - hr while connected to get it to charge again. Yesterday I was planning to unlock the bootloader again as I got bored of stock. So I plugged into my computer and all I got was the normal ding ding when connected and that was it. I walked away to make me a "samich" and get a beer knowing it was going to be about an hour or so to get it unlocked, TWRP installed, pick a rom, and setup. So I got to my computer and notice that the phone was usb charging but no notification on phone for MTP or PTP. So unplugged/replugged and nada, Still got the ding ding and charge indicator but no usb connection.
Today I came back to the computer and saw that computer recognize my phone with
**In my head, female robotic voice*
"How would you like to open your files"
So at least it recognize my phone. I disconnected/reconnected and still popped up on phone for MTP/PTP and on computer how would I like to open my files. I even jiggled the cable to thinking that the port may be broken/defective. I changed cables just to make sure that maybe the cables are bad
Samsung Stock White Cable
Moto X Cable
HTC One cable
Generic Cable from Amazon
All good. So Im wondering if maybe the port maybe dirty and just need some air in the port or can the port itself be going bad. I had honestly tried for about 2 hours last night trying to figure out what I did wrong or if anything changed.
While I was searching around I found a way to root my phone without using my computer as I had no way to connect at the time which was awesome
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
Use Aragorn method, last selection. FYI
So has anyone else gone thru the above?
I mean pretty much right now my phone is fully operational and has full usb/charging functionality but I hate for this to happen if Im in ODIN or flashing something and it hits the fan and now have a paper weight. I have heard chatters that sometimes the the software might be the culprit as I am not seeing any kind of damage to the port that would indicate to be so.
Stock out of the box Software
OS: 4.1.2
Root only/Bootloader Locked
Confirmed via Odin and ADB that phone is recognize, trying to eliminate that it maybe a driver issue.
Checked Device Manager to see maybe driver maybe an issue but it did not even pick it up while connected at the time.
Threads I tried for troubleshooting;
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f77...note-2-diag-modes-16-digit-passwords-1671132/
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...alaxy-note-2-usb-pc-connection-problem-3.html
Would like to note too ( <--ehh get it, see what I did there, lol) that I did send my phone in for repair twice, the first for memory card and the second for cracked screen. When I got my phone back the second time I have notice that horrid "Verizon" logo on the on the home button was gone. So happy about it. The problem which was minor at the time was when I connected my earphones into the jack and was charging it at the same time I had some weird distortion. Still does it but but just learned to to listen to my phone while charging.....
So idk if maybe somewhere down the line in repairs did something go fubar but Ill see what happens this weekend.
So decided to open up my phone and see what the hell was going on and I dont know if what Im seeing is correct. I checked the the Usb chip and the chip is marked with
SPH-L900_SPR
REV 0.9 LF-A G
NF 1241 SY
To my knowledge, this is a Sprint part. Keep in mind that I recently got my phone back from Verizon, well Asurion, from repair due to cracked screen. Like I said before the home button does not have the Verizon logo. Just a white blank button. I dont know if they share parts and what not.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Galaxy-Note...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item35c71596e0
The link above is the usb part I need for my phone but my question now is are these parts interchangeable like the screens or it is because its a Sprint Note 2 usb chip that Im having problems. I ordering the part as I cant claim insurance anymore until open enrollment in January. Hopefully this fixes the issue and maybe I can save myself the cash to have it serviced by a store.

The problem Im having is I re-locked my bootloader and re flashed everything back to stock as I was following the insurance route to just get it fixed. But when I found out that I couldn't anymore then I went the other route to fix it myself. Now that I just want to unlock and start flashing away I cant because my computer wont read or register my phone. So Im waiting for the part to come in and do the repair myself. Easy fix in my opinion and will help out to get me to flash other roms. The only thing I was able to do is root the phone without my computer so at least I can play around with root apps.
Here is the fix, maybe it shud work for u guys
