[GUIDE] How to bypass safteynet & use apps that block rooted devices! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey! I found an app that helps you hide your root access from apps so you can use the apps in a rooted device, I was looking for a way to use snapchat on my Htc One M7 from last week or so. I tried alot of methods Magisk was one of them but as the Htc doesn't have a kernel compatible to magisk (No Mount namespace), So the magisk didn't worked for me either.
Here's the yotube link that i found & worked for me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHtPTIoKRkk
Name of the app is "rootswitch"
Here's the direct download link for the app - http://www.mediafire.com/file/23586xv7yf931nx/RootSwitch-1.2.9.apk
(But please help the maker of the video to earn a bit through his ads, Use the link from his video instead)
I am not the maker or author of the video nor of the application. I just wanted to share cause it worked for me hopefully it can help many others as well

Or you could just log in snap chat before you root. Then root and make a tibu backup. This is how I have it working. No need for extra software that claims to do something.

Been running it this way for almost a year, and never had an issue but then again snap chat is not really stable on Android anyway. We get the short end of the stick compared to its IOS better half. But I only use it for my kids so not a big issue.

HOW TO:Root, Install Clockwork, Remove Bloatware, and more*updated 3/2/11*

I compiled this for someone at DroidForums and I figured I would post it here.
In order to complete all of these steps, you will need:
ROM Manager
Titanium Backup Pro
Root Explorer
SetCPU
Odin v1.3
A file manager like Astro to install the APKs.
SetCPU can be downloaded here for free: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
It can also be bought from the Market. The others also need to be purchased or downloaded.
In order to root, follow the instructions here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html
Here is a link for Mac users: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...s/34188-rooting-using-mac-video-tutorial.html
ClockworkMod Recovery Installation instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021 You can also flash the new recovery with Rom Manager, but for now, I recommend the recovery in the link.
At this point, you should be rooted with CWM Recovery. Now, it's time to install Froyo.
Follow the link here, and you will find Odin files for quickly installing EB01: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...roms-w-root-new-clockwork-updated-2-11-a.html
NOTE: You will need to wipe when you go from 2.1 to 2.2. Be sure to back up everything before the upgrade.
Now, you will need a rom. I would recommend SuperClean by Adrynalyne: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910921 It includes a kernel and there are Voodoo and NonVoodoo versions. This will remove all bloatware, including TouchWiz and Bing. However, the browser will still search with Bing. Then, use the themes sub-forum to find a theme.
You can use ROM Manager-Download-sonofskywalker3 to find all sorts of options. Stock apps, de-Binged browsers, new boot animations, widgets, etc. Anything you didn't want removed can be downloaded there.
If you need to return to stock, you'll need to use Odin. Ask any questions in this thread and I will do my best to answer them. You can also post a thread on XDA(make sure it's in the right section!), or visit the IRC at: webchat.freenode.net channel: #samsung-fascinate
I take no credit for anything here.
NOTE: ROOTING WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE.
Awesome writeup. Gonna be great for the people with the Google questions. Also I am assuming the frozen apparently will stay frozen even after rebooting?

I'm not sure. I'll edit my OP and say it's very risky, since you are the only person I have heard of that it doesn't cause issues.
uh oh
I just deleted all these apps. Am i in trouble when froyo comes out?
It looks like wireless tether doesn't work for me, and I did delete 3G Mobile Hotspot, so maybe it makes sense to go slow at this before jumping in. I'm not having any problem connecting to wi-fi, though, so if that's all you want then maybe you'll be fine. I use backup assistant so I can't comment on what could happen if that's deleted.
Freezing/hiding apps seems to be the best way to make sure you aren't looking for backup apps somewhere...

Yes it is. That's why I recommend it. I also find it easier than moving them to the SD card with root explorer like a lot of people are doing, but to each his own.
EDIT: I tried Wireless Tether, and it started just fine. I didn't try connecting anything to it, but I know it at least starts. I can't tell if they blocked tethering or if deleting Mobile Hotspot affects it.

My iPod wouldn't connect either. I would try my computer, but I don't have a wireless card anymore since I moved the router up here and am wired into it. There's gotta be something to do. I played around with the channels and nothing worked.

Here's the system dump: http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/32839-fascinate-system-dump.html
I have removed [moved] both Backup Assistant and Mobile 3G Hotspot and I have no issues with Wireless Tether. Before assuming Mobile 3G Hotspot is the cause of your issues, try verifying Wireless Tether works for you beforehand. There was a thread dedicated to Wireless Tether not working by a senior member only to find out it was user error.
There's more than one way to move/remove apps and I'm sure we all can confirm deleting .apk files is NOT the best option. I've used Titanium Backup to freeze apps which I could not locate the .apk for, but I prefer moving the .apk files. This is because I've been in a force-close loop after moving a file and the only solution would be to move the file back and reboot the phone. This can be done via ADB. If you freeze an app and you get in a force-close loop you may not be able to use Titanium Backup's GUI to un-freeze an app.
I move to the SD card to free up space on the phone, which comes in handy if you're replacing stock apps from other places. Plus, it gives me an easy view of what to move to/from the /system/app folder if I need to put apps back when there is an OTA (or if someone asks me "what apps did you remove?")
Move/rename/freeze... pick your poison, but please don't delete.

Yup. If you delete, you have to handle the process of moving apps from the system dump. I don't think a factory reset would work, since the apps aren't there and it has nowhere to restore them from.
Just installed CMW and removed bloatware from these instructions, everything went great. Appreciate your time to do the write up.
I'm still interested in doing the lag fix, I did notice a difference with my phone. I ran it one week with it, and one week without and I've noticed a difference. Anyone else running it with all this setup?

The lag fix seems to have very mixed results. Some people say it has caused lag, some have trouble un-doing it, some notice no difference. So I haven't taken the risk. I also need the internal memory it takes away. I would consider it if it would fix those occasional stutters and freezes, and actually make a difference.

Root Explorer. (Nuff said)
Wifikill (comes in handy trust me)(search for it on xda, not market)
Sixaxis Controller (I use it on GTA3)
CIFS-Manager to mount a network share as a local folder. With this app, you can play movies / music / anything from a network share without copying it locally.
If you don't need to mess about with root, it might be easier to wait a week or so and see if there is an update to ICS. You might have noticed that lots of people have stability issues, so don't expect too much sympathy if things go wrong.

-AdAway
-Root Explorer
-A back app like MyBackupPro or TiTBU that can take advantage of root functions in its backup and restore process
-SetCPU (hope to have future use for this bad boy)
-VooDoo OTA to save root and unistall and reinstall root after OTA updates
-a CacheCleaner
-BusyBox
Surprized no one has mentioned

You can play games and control the device remotely from another android device like smaller easier to hold phone, personally i dont care for tilt games on the tablet cause it seems to over or under tilt for me the way I hold the device. touch controls/ audio / mousepad
IMHO controlling the device remotely is a really cool benfit of root'ing it

At least you got it to install, I get the message telling me that it's incompatible with my device. However, the TWC TV app (which it is likely rebranded from) installs fine. Just doesn't do much good when I have Brighthouse.
Brightouse is claiming "A rooted device does not allow us to set the permissions the LiveTv app needs to function properly".
Is this not such a bunch of crap. If their coders were worth a gain of salt they should have no problem changing or modding any permissions their app requires.
I'm guessing they are scared that rooted devices are able to record anything on the desktop. Sadly there are apps to help non-rooted devices to record the desktop too. So what would be the point of even searching for the xbin folder, which again I'm guessing that they are doing.. If this in fact what they are doing, could we add an app to rename that folder when the BH app is launched and rename it back when it closes?

Sounds like a bunch of bull****. A bit pissed that it aint working because of the stupid rooted crap. Someone has to find a way to modify the installation of this app but who will????
Thanks guys for the responds. Like everyone is saying it is a bunch of BULL****, but hopefully someone will come up for a solution to break this. By the way I started thinking why does it matter if our phones are rooted to B.H.. We pay them for service to our TV/Internet not our phones. It is not of their business what we do with our phones and if we made a decision to root, they should not block this app. to us. We pay the same amount that the person that did not root and they get to use this App.
I tried a little but the program won't get far enough along to help because usb debugging was enabled. I was using eclipse to monitor the log file while I launched the app.
There's a somewhat interesting (too much iFruit for me) discussion here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27195196-iPhone-Android-tablet-users-get-Bright-House-TV-App-Joy- on the subject. Looks like the reason behind the ICS only is because of DRM. Is it possible, the same reasoning was applied to devices being rooted or not?
the TWC app got a fix for rooted users, any chance there will be a rooted-compatible apk for the brighthouse app?
Wahoo!!

Watch movies off Google Movie rentals and more on Rooted phones

Hi all
Create a cwm back up of your phone before trying this.
Found a app that actually hides root so that you can use google movie rentals/ skygo restrictions and any app that checks that you are rooted.
It temporary unroots the phone and can restore su after you finish film etc...
Make sure to Backup Root in the app.
This hasn't been tested yet on my wildfire as wife at work with it but will test soon as she home.
It does say works on some phones. If you want to test it before I do search google play for ''OTA RootKeeper'' Its the first app that actually does what it says for me well on my sg2.
Note if something goes wrong Su you can restore in app, failing that reflash a backup rom

i tried this when skygo 1st came to android and it doesnt work.i found an alternative (hideroot) but it disabled my root altogether and the enable root option never gave me my root back, even the dev of the app was baffled and eventually stopped replying to my needs to regain root.it did however allow me to have a nandroid for my skygo needs.
something i never tested but its been mentioned over in the skygo thread is the supersu app which allows you to hide root also i believe but i never got round to testing it.
Thanks will try it
Can you keep us posted with the results about SuperSU?

I have found this app is used on the Xperia range instead of standard SU app, any ideas why?

[Q] so can anyone recommend a good app that'll hide root on lollipop??

so yea lollipop is here, but due to some circumstances rootcloak is no more not even usable via cydia, so has anyone found a stand alone app like rootcloak? as the bright house tv app is now rendered useless. ;P
I would also love to know when a solution comes along. I love Lollipop but I was using Rootcloak to be able to use MAAs360 on KK, so no work email right now.
I need root due to being on the N5 that unfortunately needs root to mod the sound system to be usable in situation...because I guess Google was unwilling to address a very widely know issue with their flagship phone. Ugh!
i have tried several root hiders and tried through supersu to hide root all with no luck i have a few apps that i wish i could use that root makes it impossible use them (all the sky apps and lloyds banking app to name a couple) i would love it if somebody could help out with this matter

Yea root clock plus runs only on cydia
Man, I know how you feel. I have a game that could only be blocked with Cydia Substrate and RootCloak Plus... but I'm not sure Cydia will ever be updated for ART/Lollipop. So... we may be screwed for a very long time.
Your right he has long left development when most used x posed. And with Google's new security it will be almost impossible to hide root.
Any news on this? I m still stuck on KK, Root Cloak doesn't work properly on Android L, at some point the app will just gives FC. Any other alternative?
I'd really like to know this as well. Overly paranoid corporations these days seem to be implementing root check security thus stonewalling anyone with a rooted device. This puts just about everyone running rooted Lollipop at a huge disadvantage when trying run anything from banking apps to games.
We need to put up the bat signal or something and call all devs here on XDA to arms bc this really sucks!
Rootcloak on Xperia Z Lollipop stopped working too. Hopefully someone will come up with a fix soon.
Helllllp developers
Still no luck till today?
This is what I'm mostly missing on my OnePlus One. Can't use my mobile payment app (UGO Wallet) without something like root cloak Wonder if there's a quick and easy way to unroot when I want to use it, an re-root when I'm done using the app.
Fastest way I have this moment is to unroot via SuperSU, then re-root via TWRP.
Still nothing? I need this too.

MrElectrifyer, I might have a solution for you. I was in the same boat as you. I am now able to use UGO Wallet with root. Result could vary because of hardware and OS.
My phone: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
OS: Android Lollipop 5.1.1
Custom ROM: [ROM][G920/5 ○ 5.1.1 ○ 29AUG] XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition 2.3
Install xposed Framework and RootCloak v1.3 (Do not use v1.4 it will crash the UGO Wallet app)
1. Open RootCloak, Add/Remove "com.ugo.mobilewallet"
2. Clear cache, clear data and force stop UGO Wallet
3.Restart phone
You should now be able to get pass the root detected when UGO Wallet app is launched.
I encountered one more in app error, which was device hardware incompatible because I was using a US ROM. I simply edited my build.prop file to a supported Model number "ro.product.model=SM-G925W8"
Best of luck
Apparently it supports lollipop 5.0+ now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-rootcloak-completely-hide-root-t2574647
