Camera App That Can Make Folders - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of a camera app that can create folders for pictures taken? What I wanna do is...I have to go to different locations sometimes and take pics of items. I'd like to be able to open the camera app, select or create a folder with the item's home address so I know which pics are from which location.
Thanks...

[Q] Hiding Albums in Gallery

Is there a way that i might be missing to hide albums in the gallery application? I know u can put a "." in front of the folder name to make it hidden to the whole device and possibly add 3rd party applications to hide folders but i just wanted to hide folders i have with icons in them, only in the gallery but still have them available when using other apps, that way i can still customize with the icons

Try Gallery Excluder. Easy way to choose folders that you want excluded in the gallery.
https://market.android.com/details?id=de.mrfloppycoding.galleryexcluder
Make sure you don't exclude your music and movies folder though.
If you put a text file in the folder and call it ".nomedia", then none of the images in the folder will show up in the gallery.
Unless you're really attached to the stock gallery, I'd recommend trying QuickPic. It lets you hide or exclude folders and numerous other things, it also loads much faster than the stock app.

using this would hide the folder from every app though correct
like if i went to Launcherpro and wanted to change an icon in dock .. when i looked for that folder it would not be found.. really only wanted to block in gallery not the whole system
I'm having issues with this. My Nook app, for example, dumps huge folders of pics (from ArticleView I think) in the gallery. I've checked some albums, and they already have .nomedia in them and they still show in the gallery. I tried a few apps to hide the albums, but that breaks the functionality in the app too. Any solutions? This is really annoying.
try the app quickpic does an easy job of hiding or excluding folders.

When you manually copy the nomedia file you have to wait for the gallery Db to refresh to see the results.
If you download 'gallery excluder' it will add a nomedia file and allow you to force the media database to update whenever you'd like.

Gallery3d APK - Install | Hide folders [HowTo]

TL;DR:
Recently I have been working to get my homescreens a little cleaner. I started using a tool called DesktopVisualizer. It allows for "Tiles" or "Icons" to be placed as shortcuts instead of the icons you normally use. It allows for a cleaned up WP7 look. The one major drawback is you have to download "tile packs" or make them yourself. The app is great, but the problem is in our gallery app.
OUR STOCK GALLERY SCANS AND LOADS ALL THE 300+ TILES/ICONS IN TO MY GALLERY! I could not stand this! I started looking into how to hide stuff from the media gallery.
Hiding Folders: "." Folders and ".nomedia" Files:
Turns out they built a neat function into android that allows for hiding things from the gallery: a .nomedia file. Placing a blank file with that name into a directory (or root directory) causes the STOCK GALLERY to skip over the folder. So, if you are like me and have some naughty pics of your g/f, ALBUM COVERS, or other misc pics you dont want to see in the gallery; drop that little file in there and it will skip it.
Another way to accomplish this is to stick a . in front of the folder name. If you have a folder called "Pr0n" change it to ".Pr0n". This will do the same thing as the nomedia, however some apps/file explorers cannot see these guys as this is the "hidden attribute" for the folder.
The problem with the Atrix, and other devices that have custom galleries, is they scan EVERYTHING. You can place nomedia files in, periods, anything, they still come parading in to the gallery. "What the hell can I do", you ask? Well, we put in a nice new gallery.
Gallery3d.APK:
Ok, so I have attached the AOSP type of gallery from CM7. I think I "heard" some place that the CM7 gallery is tweaked a little, however I didnt notice any differences. So, download and install as normal, sideload it, whatever. Once its on, you are good to go. The only problem, if you freeze the 2.3.4 gallery from Moto, the camera app wont pull your pics. Everything in the cam still works as far as functionality to take pics. The problem is when/if you click on the small pic in the corner of the view finder(your gallery), it will give some error about "No gallery installed". I'm sure there is a way around this, but for now I just have both installed and use only the 3D gallery. Using LauncherPro I hid the other icon to keep "phone handlers" from going through my UBER gallery when they pick up my phone to play with it. This way I get the nice gallery3d, but still get the full sharing functionality of the moto gallery should I want to share straight from my camera.
There you have it. I have given you the the gallery apk, pros and cons, and how to hide folders. Knock yourselves out. OH! If you happen to get the cam to work with the 3D instead 2.3.4, please post a how to in here as well.
Thank you so much i have been wanting this on my atrix i hate the new galery in moto
Also check out Gallery Excluder in the Market for hiding folders with this method.

How do I get to the file on my Moto phone

HUGE FLAW in the Android Gallery APP!!!!

When I open my gallery, I see thousands of folders and one thumbnail image in each of those folders!! Those thumbnail images are the auto generated album art from various mp3 files that I copied to the sdCard.
Its almost impossible to find my folders and important pictures in all this mess.
I have been searching on the market, forums and everywhere for days now, and I did not find any way to stop the gallery from showing these auto generated thumbnails in the gallery.
This is a huge flaw in the android gallery app, there should be some option to include or exclude certain desired folders.
When I searched, I found the album art thumbnails which the gallery app was showing were in this folder - /sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails/
This folder also has thumbnails for my important pictures and camera taken pictures. I don't want to remove those.
What I don't understand is, even if I clear thumbnail cache, it will again generate thumbnails for those mp3 files and show them when I open gallery again!!!!
Its like a loop and there is no way to fix this.
I searched almost everywhere to find a proper solution to this problem, but could not. If anyone has any proper fix for this problem, please help me out
P.S : dont tell me the .nomedia fix etc , i have tried all and it just makes the mp3 files disappear from the media player.

Please go through my entire post :|
And read description of app on market:
Here's how:
Gallery Excluder lists all direct subdirectories of '/sdcard' respectively '/mnt/sdcard' and displays them in a list. If an item/directory gets checked a '.nomedia' file is placed in that directory. If the directory gets unchecked the '.nomedia' file is removed.

All that is doing is creating that file. I already wrote above-

Use Quickpic - it's an awesome gallery replacement app - and exclude the main thumbnails directory. This does not create a nomedia file, it excludes the folder from being scanned by Quickpic and therefore the files don't show up. It will not fix the problem with the stock gallery, but I think you'll be happy with Quickpic's speed and functionality. It's a million times better than the stock gallery.
Be sure to "exclude" and not "hide". Hiding will place a nomedia file.
I know it's not the solution you were hoping for, but it does solve your problem.

Thanks for helping me out
I have already tried using quickpic. This is the folder where the thumbnails are located, which I want to be excluded -
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And this is what I see in the quickpic exclude folder options -
Maybe I am being really stupid and missing on something obvious, but otherwise...... Where is the .thumbnails folder ?? Its a hidden folder, which is not visible in the quickpic app.. so How do i select it to exclude ????
Lastly, the UI of the stock gallery app is really awesome looking, with images floating and blurred backgroud ( i.e cooliris ) . quickpic is really simple and boring looks.
So I am back onto my original question - Does any1 have any fix to this major flaw in the stock gallery app ??
Default Gallery is crap. It's no good having something that 'looks nice' but doesn't perform it's function.
1) Create a Folder on your SD called 'Pictures'.
2) Move all your images to 'Pictures'. (Create sub-folders if necessary)
3) Install Quickpic.
4) Select option to only include Pictures folder.
5) ??
6) Profit!

I have a dropbox folder, where I have my dropbox pics
I have a screenshots folder where I have my screenshot pictures
I have a whatsapp folder, where I have all the pics we friends share on our group chat
I have a few other apps, which have their separate folders, and their pics automatically go in those folders. Which I like very much. And i would like to keep it that way.
When I open my gallery, all these folder show up nicely and its much more easier to recollect what pic is from when and where.
I liked everything about my gallery, UNTIL now! when it started showing all the thumbnails. My album art is embedded inside the mp3 tags. I just don't want it to extract them from there and display in gallery.
C'mon there must be some way to get rid of this little but annoying problem!!
Mayby use some file manager and make those pictures "hidden"

i know you are trying to help me bro, but you have no idea what solution I am looking for, or maybe you are not able to understand what the problem is.
Still, let me explain it to you, those are mp3 files, i cant hide them. my media player won't be able to find them them. I cannot do anything with the files. I just have to find a way for the gallery to overlook them.

The Gallery shouldn't see mp3 files, and the ".thumbnails" folder is hidden, the period in front of the folder name causes it to not be shown in apps. So whatever you're seeing in the Gallery app is not coming from that folder, and they aren't mp3 files.
Do you see the images in Quickpic? If so, long-press on one of the folders with the images you don't want to see. Choose exclude from the menu. In the dialog there is a dropdown, you can choose to exclude a parent directory instead of the folder you long-pressed. It's made for stuff like album art. Choose whichever folder holds the subfolders you don't want to see.
This will also tell you where the images are coming from so you can possibly do something else about it.

The long-pressing method worked. I was able to select the parent directory and remove all the unnecessary images and have a organised view.
And yes its not extracting those images from the .thumbnails folder but the path which was showing on long-pressing, it was the path to the actual mp3 file itself.
example-
there is a Folder called eminem with its album art in the gallery, the path to that pic is -
sdcard/music/eminem/recovery/not_afraid.mp3
Click to expand...

So the gallery is thinking the mp3 file as a image file, because the image is embedded in the mp3 tags.
Though its not the solution I am looking for, but still because of you I have found a workaround, until someone figures out how to fix this default gallery flaw.

You can select exactly which folders you want to be included in your gallery with QuickPic...
I am so glad I am not the only one with this issue. In my case the stock photo gallery was picking up my folder.jpg image that is saved in each of my artist music folders. As you can imagine I ended with over a thousand images being displayed in my gallery. I will try the Quickpic option.
Found this fix, might be your issue
Not sure if you stated what phone you have, but I had the same problem with my Samsung GS3 and here's how I fixed. Apparently the Samsung Gallery app only scans for .nomedia files on first load, so unless you have the .nomedia files where they need to be on first launch you need to clear cache and data for both Gallery and Media storage apps. After I did this mine worked perfect. Might be more than just Sammy phones too so worth a shot either way I would say. I like the stock gallery app too and am glad I can use it again. I used StudioKUMA .nomedia Manager to quickly and easily add the .nomedia files where they needed to be. Hope this helps! :fingers-crossed:

hello taavi,
gallery exclude also excludes your Music from your library, so as it hides Album Art from your gallery, it also hides Music from the music player... so is completely useless to me.
1) Start Quickpic.
2) Select a folder within the mp3 folderstructure - doesn't matter which one.
3) Click Menu -> Exclude
4) The path is clickable. Select it and from the folders you see, select the 'root' of your mp3 files.
5) Click on OK
Done.
When the list of folders looks like this:
/storage/extSdCard/Music/Albums/Elvis Presley/Music Diary 1
/storage/extSdCard/Music/Albums/Elvis Presley
/storage/extSdCard/Music/Albums
/storage/extSdCard/Music
/storage/extSdCard
then select this one:
/storage/extSdCard/Music
This will exclude every folder beneith /storage/extSdCard/Music too, so all your icons will be invisible in Quickpic.
My problem looks like it, but I need the gallery to see the Dropbox pictures. However, they are relocated with DirectoryBind to external SDcard. The gallery sees every folder twice. Unfortunately, the gallery cannot exclude certain folders with accompanying subfolders.
Interesting, I have yet to come across this issue myself. But I am quite curious to re-creating it so I can try to find a solution.
Arjs what is the process you are taking to get you music tagged in the first place?
For example, are you using windows media player or itunes to rip it (I ask because you mentioned a separate folder for each album),
Also, you mentioned the songs have a direct link to the album artwork in the TAG. Usually I am use to seeing a seperate file that links the MP3 to the JPG but I may be using a different app then you
I guess what I am asking is A-Z how do you get your music on your phone and what app are you using to play it, tag it, get artwork etc.
If I can re-create the issue myself I am willing to attempt a fix.

[Q]Take photo without opening camera app?

We all had these moments when we just had the opportunity to take the perfect picture, but the camera app slowed us down and we missed it.
Thats why i came up with an idea which will allow you to take photos from your homescreen / anywhere with help of one of the hardware buttons without opening the camera app first.
This is where you guys come in. How do i go on from here and is this something you can achieve with the app tasker?
Would appreciate if you could give your thoughts or put me in the right direction if anything like this already exist!
Im using the galaxy s2 if that would make any difference
Managed to do something almost as good as i want it, its a tasker widget which open the camera and takes a picture.
Its a bit glitchy since it wont take a pic 2 of 5 times and it back out to fast if i add an option to either go home or kill the camera app.
I can post the tasker profile if anyone would like to take a look at it and help me out.
Take pics without opening the camera with tasker + instant upload & auto delete pics
I know this threads pretty old but it doesnt seem to have been fully answered and i wanted this function so... After lookin around i found this post but it didnt do what i wanted, tasker has been updated a lot since this was originally posted so...
A little more googling was done and a while later i came across a way of taking photos without waiting for the camera app to load up...
Create a widget to take a photo instantly without opening the camera by long pressing your home screen for the add dialog, selecting widgets and add a tasker, task widget.
Create a new task and name it
Add a new action - media, take photo
Set parameters - choose camera to use, specify filename, set naming sequence to series/chronological, check discreet for no sounds
*(uncheck 'show in gallery' if using the method described lower down to upload and delete photos with dropsync)
OK this and choose an icon. Then add the widget.
Click widget to take a photo.
A folder named tasker will have been created in /DCIM with the photo in.
I added this as well to save me from filling my phone with photos.
I'm assuming that you have Dropbox already for this...
Download and install DROPSYNC from the play store.
During the setup you will be prompted to link folders -
Link your /DCIM/CAMERA folder on the phone to the Camera Uploads folder of Dropbox
You will be asked what kind of sync you want - set this to upload and delete.
Turn on instant upload and set parameters as desired.
Now your phone will auto upload your camera's pictures straight to Dropbox and then delete the original on the device immediately. Make sure dropsync is not checked in any task killer you have as instant upload may not work.
You can change the dropsync linked folder (or add another if you have pro) to /DCIM/tasker to have your instant snaps instantly uploaded and deleted from handset.
NOTE:
I dont think this requires root access

[Q] Attaching downloaded image to SMS?

Has anyone figured out a way to attach downloaded images to SMS/MMS? Often I'll download pictures to send to friends/family/etc and I haven't found a way to attach a downloaded item.
Images downloaded don't show up in Gallery. I can't share from Downloads because the sharing feature doesn't list Messenger as a target. When I try to share from Messenger, the Picture option allows attachment from Camera or Gallery... neither show downloaded images.
Anyone have any ideas? Super frustrating.
I am able to. I choose to attach a picture, select gallery, then switch from events to albums in the upper left and there is an all downloads folder there to choose from.
