Hi there,
I would like to skip the latest update, coz' I don't see any real improvement there. How can I hide or disable the constant notifaction icon?
I am rooted, of course.
Love,
D.
Even if you don't see any benefit, there are often bug fixes and security fixes inn a new release. So I take the opposite view, if an official update does not break or remove some needed functionality I install the latest version.
Can't you download the update then just not install it? Would that get rid of the notification?

Nope
Downloaded it last night, (to the phone, OTA), but did not install it. Went to bed, got up the next morning and the notification was still there.
Yeah, you are probably right. Took the plunge yesterday and it took me the whole day to reinstall the apps and settings. First thing I did afterwards: Got Titanium Backup ;-)
Btw: GingerBreak works like a charm
Not sure what is causing this to my Nexus 9 lte on t-mobile. It has been working great then today this message will just not stop popping up.
I've trying going to the apps area and uninstalling play store update, clearing cache but it's tough to do since when you click ok on this message, it immediately pops right back up.
I've tried wiping dalvik and cache in recovery to no avail.
I have even nandroided back to the stock with root I created immediately after I rooted using the wugfresh program.
It boots fine, then I install the programs I need to install and update the apps. All works fine. However, when I reboot, this message comes back again and pops up immediately again once I hit the ok button.
Please help. I figured once 5.1 came out, I would just wipe and flash the 5.1 but the way this is going is pretty much rendering my tablet useless since the message is always popping up.
Please help. Thank you,
Whiteice

I had that problem and ended up doing a clean install of the factory image. Hasn't come back since.

Same here. Untouched stock 5.0.1 ROM. WiFi only tablet.
Might be worth mentioning that I got a google app update today before this started happening.
What the **** Google!!!!!!!
Tablet has important work stuff and its unusable now.
Weird. I just had the same thing happen on my MotoX (2013) yesterday, but my N9 is fine.
My MotoX is rooted, so I manually deleted all gapps from /system/app/ and /system/priv-app/ and /data/app/ then reinstalled SlimRoms minimal gapps package. I never did figure out what the exact problem was.
---update---
Rats, I spoke too soon. Got this error again on my MotoX today. Fortunately, it only seems to pop up once a day, so I can live with it for now.

mine is doing this today too. first time I've reboot in a while and it started up after the boot. im on stock with fire ice kernel. musta been a google play service.update that broke something.
I had this happen today: constantly popping up making tablet virtually useless.
tried various things, wipe cache/dalvik, reset all app preferences, and others.
This is what finally worked:
Settings->apps->all->Google play services->manage space->clear all data
This is a rooted WiFi N9 running stock 5.01
Hope this helps!
i cleared data and cache of just about everything and unistalled everything i could (tedious task trying to hit the screen before the anr pop up). i just used this as an excuse to switch from stock to AICP - i'm on wifi only. so no biggie and i got a better more customizable version of lolli. still PIA that it even happened.
This just happened to my N9 wifi this morning. It rebooted on its own (stock but rooted) then the message came up. The problem I had was that the message wouldn't stop so I couldn't access anything in the Settings. I tried the no wipe with Wug's but no change. Trying a wipe mode. What a PITA. Heading to google forums to see what's been reported.
The problem is being reported at google products forums--happening on N5 also. So far, wipe with toolkit (even using the factory reset mode) hasn't done anything. On to checking which recovery I have and do on tab reset.
Happened again this morning!!!
Tablet startup was unusually slow then i was greeted by gapps crashing over and over rendering the tablet unusable.
I'm starting to think this is caused by data corruption. Filesystem or nand problems?
Lollipop is killing lots of nexus 7 devices, I'm worried we might be next!!!

Google play services was updated to 7.3.28, see if that's the version you have. Also try clearing cache for it.

I followed jetfin's suggestion and cleared all data and it worked!!
A Google search reveals that a lot of people have had this issue for the past couple of months.
It saddens me to see the state that android/Google are in.
Edit: looking at battery usage, I found that the dex2oat utility has been working too hard. I'm guessing the problem is with ART corrupting the play services update. Either a ROM issue or a bad update from Google!!
Works!

This worked like a charm : ) Thank you!
I had this issue a month or so ago, had to wipe Google play data and wipe cache in recovery (which took bloody ages).

this has also been happening to me over the last few days - mine was occuring on galaxy s5 though, had to keep re-installing a backup (lucky I had a recent one). fixed it by wiping google play data.. popups stopped immediately
After updating to latest Android Wear app for my phone, the app just shows a blank screen with the usual cloud background -- no watch face options, etc. It shows the watch as connected, but I can't get to any of the settings. Same thing after rebooting both the phone and watch, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the app. When I use Titanium Backup to restore the previous version everything is fine again. Anyone else encountering this?

Everything works fine on mine after the updates. Sorry IP this is happening to you.

no problem here
Well, hmmm....I wonder what my deal is? I've tried it quite a few times and no dice. I guess I'll just keep using the old version and wait to see if another update fixes it. I had to do this once before when the watch was running Wear v1.5, too. I'm pretty sure the update is mostly cosmetic anyway, so I doubt I'm missing much. Thanks for the responses!
PS - Good to see you here scjjtt!
I factory reset the watch and paired/set everything up all over again and now it's working. A few other things are actually working better, so apparently something was messed up even though the problem with the AW app was the only thing I noticed. Setting up the watch all over again isn't that difficult to do with Wear 2.0.
FINALLY
Wouldn't this ota file work on all N950U1 devices?

The update is for carrier devices, not U1 devices. Your have to ODIN to N950U firmware then apply the OTA.

My device is a carrier device on stock nougat. It is a Verizon Note 8.
Hey guys, I just got the OTA update on my Sprint Galaxy Note 8 as well, and so far I'm loving it! But I'm experiencing a Google Play error, "DF-DFERH-01, error retrieving information from server"
So I went ahead and cleared cache and data, uninstalled Google Play updates, and did the same thing to Google Play Services. I went as far as factory resetting my device, and I'm still recieving the same error. It wasn't like this before I installed the update 2 hours ago.
I wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing the same thing?
Edit: Just like magic, Google Play seems to be working again. Finally to enjoy Android Pie at last!

^^ Also had / have same issue as well. Mine however is a carrier unlocked Galaxy Note 8 and using Sprint service (not rooted). I did clear cache, have not tried factory reset but thank you for informing me as I've been trying to determine the next course of action. Also, my menu / ui / settings / colors (font / backgrounds / forms) have partially inverted, so that all titles are almost close to #000 (solid black) with form boxes inverted to white, (making this close to impossible without some guess work what invisible text says) and it seems like there's an error with the themes (now back to complete stock and it does not change the colors at all from the inverted manner nor will it allow me to even switch to dark mode). However, I just got this installed maybe 15 minutes ago, so I will continue trying to figure this out and test to see if any other functions are not working properly. Have you found any other others yourself and or a way to fix the Google Play error?

Ah, that sounds odd. As far as I know, Samsung made changes to the way themes work on the Android Pie update, so I'd guess it might be possible that your themes were screwed up in the process. Is it also like that on the default theme? Everything seems to be working normal on my end, I'm still using the default theme
As for the Google Play error, I didn't really do anything else after I had cleared cache and data, and uninstalled app updates. I went off to continue setting up my Note 8, came back 25 minutes later, and Google Play worked normally as if nothing had happened.

So what I learned from a couple of quick experiments, to ANYONE downloading & installing Pie for the first time, I highly advise uninstalling all forms of themes, launchers, roms, etc. that are not stock as with the theme changes in Pie, that is what seems to mess it up and I am going to test to see what can be used with it after. The Google Play thing lasted me a few hours since it was earlier today.... but makes me wonder if they did a silent correction as I've heard others that didn't get that error after mine seemed to magically work again too.

I see. In your first post you asked about N950U1 devices, which is the unbranded factory unlocked model.
Yes this update will work on your device. But you can't apply it directly over your current build. You'll have to update to whatever the current Oreo build was first.
if you have any ideas on what i can do, greatly appreciated.
i haven’t been able to open One Note on my Duo. I first tried a couple of weeks ago because i wanted to try it out. when i tap the icon it shows the splash screen for a second and then crashes. i get a pop up with three options. i can’t recall right now what they are, but i think close, report, and maybe open. anyways, whatever i do, it won’t open. i thought maybe with the january update it would get resolved. and there was an update through the Play app a week or so ago. but nothing helped. i have rebooted the Duo and have forced close the app. I wish i could delete the app and reinstall but its not possible.
any ideas?
Resolved. I just did a factory reset and everything is now working. Weird because I never did anything besides normal updates. One of them must have gone wrong.
