My H850 seems unable to write to my external SD card. I first noticed it when the camera app stopped saving photos to the card, and then tried copying files to the card using ES File Explorer and that can't write to the card either. The card has 40GB free according to Storage Settings (it's a 128GB Samsung card). If I take it out and plug it into a PC I have no problems writing to it.
This problem started happening around the time of the last software update (last week) - to versionV20i-234-30 (build NRD90U).
Any ideas?
...I've just discovered that I am able to delete files from the SD card (using ES File Explorer), although it takes a long time to do it (about 30 seconds to delete a 5MB file). Copying a file from one location to another on the SD card doesn't work.
I'm running the stock Android 7.0 ROM, unrooted

I have a SGS2 with Lite'ning Rom v1.5 XXKF2.Besides the 16GB internal memory I have a 4GB microSD card also.My problem is that I can't copy images/videos or any files at all from the internal memory to my external memory.I have tried with 3-4 File managers so I know the progam isn't the problem.
Oh and by the way, no error message occurs. It shows that it is transfered (the loading bar fills) but nothing hapens. My only solution is to copy files from internal to pc through cable and then from pc to external through cable. All this with mass storage mode.To much time for something so simple.
Is there a solution?
I have the same question
Copied from external to SD trough ASTRO, but the content copied dissapaired.
Can you copy between the two phone drives in windows explorer without copying to PC first .
jje
I've tried it using Root Explorer and it works fine. I'm on stock ROM, just rooted it - nothing more.
I found that some file explorers had this copying issue. One that always works for me is Ghost Commander.
I'm having some problem with my sd-card. I use a class 4 16 gb SD card and I can browse it using a file manager and even play songs stored within. But some apps cannot detect it. When using the camera, NavDroyd and some apps, it is asking me to attach a card. I tried remounting the card to no avail.
And another thing - I have a torrent app. I started downloading a 2gb file but decided to cancel it. But the free space of my card was still reduced by 2gb although I removed the torrent and data. Any tips on this? Thanks.
Any ideas?
Try to copy what you have on sd card on your pc, then format it and copy the things back on sd card.Have you tried another card? Maybe is a rom problem. And the utorrent thingy, browse the sd-card and check the folder where it downloads the torrents and see if the file is still there, and manually delete it.
If I format my sd-card. do I have to repeat the convertion of ext2 to ext3,etc.. stuffs?
I have a galaxy S4 Sprint, and I just bought a Sony 64GB class 10 card from Amazon. I formatted it with SD Formatter (exFAT) with the program from sdcard.org.
I copied all my files over, and I had about 3GB of photos in DCIM/Camera/. Then today I tried to view my gallery but the photos didn't show up. I checked in a file manager /storage/sdcard1/DCIM/Camera/ and it said 0 files. I thought "Great, it lost the whole folder, now I'll have to copy it from my old card"
So I put in my new card into my SD card reader [microSD to SD adapter, into laptop SD slot], and I navigate to DCIM/Camera/, and on my computer, it shows 3GB worth of files in there! So I move it back to my phone, and it shows 0 files. I am 100% sure I'm in the right directory since I made a blank file in DCIM/ and it shows up on both laptop and phone.
another thing, when I try to put anything in DCIM/Camera/ it fails (file manager gives error, but terminal command "touch test-file.txt" doesn't give error, but "ls" shows no files there)
I am running the latest CM11 snapshot M3 for jfltespr [Sprint GS4]. I'm quite baffled by this. Can anybody suggest something to fix this issue? I was thinking of formatting my card to ext4, but windows doesn't support it natively [I have Linux dual boot though].
Update: since nobody suggested anything, I renamed Camera to Camera2, then created a new directory, Camera, then cut/paste all pics in Camera2 into Camera, and now I have everything back in my gallery..
Also I tried running chkdsk on the sd card, but it found no errors. I ran it twice. Anyway, not sure what happened, but hopefully it doesn't happen again.
Device: Moto E 2015
Android: 5.0.2
Coming from android 4.0 I could manage files on my external SD card using Windows Explorer, AirDroid, or any 3rd party file manager.
Now that I'm using 5.0.2 I cannot manage files on the external SD card using any of those methods. The SD card has over 14 gigs free. The card is formatted and works as Google pushed over my photos and music from the internal SD card fine.
Another problem is I can't move any apps to the SD card. With android 4.0 I could push an app like iBird Pro to the external SD card. Now when I try to push that app to the external SD card it claims there is not enough space. Android storage shows there is over 14 gb free and iBird Pro is under 1 gb.
It would appear that 5.0.2 is a total wreck when trying to make use of the external sd card. *sigh* I hear rumors that M may fix this... if the Moto E 2015 happens to get that update.
You can transfer media to your SD, transfer some apps to SD (if they allow it) But SD write permissions have been a PIA since 4.4.X, so hopefully M does sort it all out.
Sent from my XT1095
So basically useless right now. I manage my own media content in a structure I like. Sad. Hopefully M will fix this mess.
Still trying to write to the external sd card. Latest developments.

Trying to transfer files or create folders on the external SD card in my Moto E 2nd Gen. causes the following error:
"The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."
What I can do:
Delete folders
Read
Copy from sd card to Windows
What throws the error:
Creating a folder
Copying files to the sd card
On the device itself I cannot get any file manager to write to the external sd card. Apps that try to setup write permissions to the sd card fail. Android itself was able to move photos and music to the sd card when I inserted it into the phone. If I try to move any app to the SD card it says there is not enough space. It has 14gb free.
I finally tried using another computer. The other system is Windows 7 and I was able to created folders and copy files to the external sd card in the phone.
Back to my main system (Windows 8.1) I used USBDeview and cleared ALL usb drivers. Reconnected keyboard and mouse. Then plugged in the phone... same behavior. I have also tried installing Motorola's driver suite and have the same result. I have tried various USB ports on my motherboard both USB 2 and 3.
I'm at loss of what to try next, besides a blunt object to both devices repeatedly.
And I may have just fixed the problem of moving apps to the external SD card.
I erased the card while it was still in the phone. I did this the first time I put it in. I choose NOT to have Android copy over music and photos. Now I can move apps over to the SD card.
However, when trying to create a folder on the SD card from Windows Explorer it just hangs: SD card (Not Responding). It does show "New Folder" after terminating file explorer and looking at the SD card again. And now.... I can rename the folder, create folders, and copy files to the SD card... wtf.
Perhaps the SD card is bad, it is incredibility inconsistent.

I have a 2nd Gen Moto G with Android 5.0.2 and I'm trying to move apps to the SD card as well. I'm a bit confused as to what steps you followed. Are you saying that BECAUSE you erased the SD card and chose not to have Android copy music and photos that you can now move apps to the card? Or are you saying that since reversing your decision and allowing Android to copy over music and photos (and possibly reformatting your erased card?) that you can now move apps to the card? And can you transfer any apps or only certain apps? Are you doing this on your phone or on your computer?
I can transfer certain apps to my SD card on the phone. And using the computer and Windows Explorer I can create a new folder on the SD card. I'm just not sure what steps to take next to transfer the apps to the card, or what impact there might be on data or functionality.
Please developers I need help with my phone [Nokia 3.2 android 10 last update 5 feb 2021 2gb ram,16gb rom no finger print].
I recently insert an 8gb rom SD card because I was lacking space. After setup everything and add it to internal storage I got a 16gb SD card so I remove the 8gb and put the 16gb it started saying file error/couldn't save screen shot/can't delete file/the app icon became the android default icon with default com.company.appname format.
I then put back the 8gb , it still had some problems so I hard flashed it.after 4 day it started have the same error, doing bug report, so I flashed it again.today it took a bug report. I need help rooting it or moving all apps to SD card and moving a specific file to internal folder (I use it to play PUBG but my SD card is slower than the internal storage and freezes will playing),I also need to fix the error. The bug report file I attached was extracted so I compressed it back and named it null.
