You are right:good:, the minimum display dimmness on P8 is much to high.
I tried to change this in framework-res.apk with the value
of "config_screenBrightnessSettingMinimum". Now the Dumpsys of Power Manager shows mScreenBrightnessSettingMinimum=1 but the display does not dim under 5.
How can we Fix this ????
Please Help

I'm trying to do something similar on the Google Pixel, and running into the same problem: Setting config_screenBrightnessSettingMinimum to 1 does not change the actual minimum screen brightness.
Did you ever solve this one?

It could be a tad darker, but if you use the "Comfort view" setting in notification menu, you can turn down blue light which works just as well. This setting is highly customizable.
To me, this is the weak point of the screen. It will get acceptably dim, though, if you activate both battery saver and comfort view, but who wants to go through those steps each time you want to read at night? I've just been using one of the night shift apps to dim the screen during night hours.
Anyone notice the auto brightness toggle not sticking? AT&T model.

Thanks for the tip, this combo does make the screen acceptably dark enough.
Has anyone had any luck with automating lg's settings? I have not been successful with Tasker and would really like to schedule this based on time and ambient light sensor.

I personally didn't think the yellow tint that Comfort View offers helped me. Instead, I used System UI tuner (This app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner&hl=en) to enable the stock android night mode. If you want to try it, it essentially works the same but the tint is more red-ish and is more tolerable in my opinion. However, the intensity of the tint can't be adjusted.
Anyways, I do agree with you that the display should get a bit darker.
Coming from a GS4, the minimum brightness is amazing, especially if you use it combined with the battery saver option, it never seemed too bright, whilst on my S4, i often used the screen filter app to lower minimum brightness

Superb low brightness in night time
Blind at daytime...
Super dim when set to slowest
Half of display have another level of brightness at minimum.
Very satisfied. But of course, there is always room for improvement.
I am on custom ROM, RR-mido. I think the brightness should still be able to further reduce. I mean night mode is there. But still
Personally, I use Lux auto for my auto brightness
My settings
Day
1 = 4%
56 = 15%
375 = 30%
5000 = 100%
Night
1 = -25%
1000 = 30%

How can I put it so that it resembles nougat or 50% oreo?
Rate this thread to express how well you can see the Essential Phone's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

The brightness is fine. It's not as good as the galaxy s8 but def better than HTC10 or honor 8\ p9. I watched basketball on it the other day and it was great.
light can be set to very dimmed but the color contrast is still vivd. Good!
I have the Pixel 2 and the Essential. I think the Essential gets brighter. Very satisfied on that front.
This phone is more bright then most people think because some people don't turn off the adaptive screen option when they want to maximize the brightness. It makes a huge different without that option.

True. Having this feature turned on by default should be punished to life in prison.
I mean you make the screen the highlight of the phone, and then nerf is by default??? WTF
It's ok, but not excellent.
I rate it approximately equal to most other devices in full sunlight outdoors. You will want to shade it with your body but, having done so, it's acceptable.

The contrast goes down with lower brightness. It'sreally annoying and even makes it hard to read sometimes

Well, I still wanted to throw this here because I didn't expect it to be such a cheap panel and I don't see any reviews even mentioning that.
Im using Screen Balance or EZXM Kernel to fix this,. Never seen before december 2019,.

Has anyone got green tint on the screen? Similar to Mate 20 Pro?
greenish tint, besides this good colors
I have a greenish tint on my X2 Pro but I don't know the one of the Mate 20 Pro.
The tint is visible in any brightness but more with low brightness. In low brightness I recognize it without any reference, in higher brightness it's easier to see if you compare it with another display. DC dimming on/off and warmer/cooler color temperature setting doesn't matter. It's still OK, even though I'd like to have a better display.
Besides this greenish tint the colors look quite good but a tad to much saturated (even in "Gentle"/sRGB color mode).
I think its really not top notch but average for the market.
The green tint looks to be on all Samsung oleds presently to different degrees... I've personally seen it on S10, S10 plus, note 10 plus, X2 pro, op7t, and recently my brother bought a galaxy S6 tab and it's also on that.
I've also seen people saying they have it on the mi9t pro and and iPhone X.
Blue light filter turns on automatically
The blue light filter turns on between sunset and sunrise even though I've turned off the eye comfort setting and set the colour temperature to cool. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Press "Eye comfort" on the Left and you will enter the "Eye comfort" mode and you will find all the options and you can cut time And thus cut the hours of Programming. I hope I helped you!!! So if you understood correctly you must "Press" on the writing "Comfort of the eyes"
