How come there isn't even basic ROMs for Z2 yet? No PA, No VanirAOSP and all.
I am thinking to buy this device but the dev support got me worried.
From my experience on here dev support usually takes a while on sony devices. If custom roms is your thing you should have a look at htc's phones or wait and see what progress is made with the z2.

Official CM development has already begun, (on par with the Z) which is much sooner than happened with the Z1.
Z1 had issues with unlocking the bootloader which was only resolved a few months after launch. Z2 does not have this problem.
Once CM completes the bring up other roms will follow.

I must admit, I'd like to see a completely pure AOSP ROM myself. (With one possible exception: the camera. I wouldn't want to lose any hardware features in terms of capture resolution, capture rate, full / half press shutter button, focus speed, or image quality. Couldn't care less about 4K video, but I don't know if there's a third-party app that can provide all of the above.)
I find my Xperia Z2 incredibly bloated, and while I've disabled as much as I can, there's a lot that can't be disabled without root. (And I am uncertain whether I can safely root this and change much without losing my warranty or the ability to install subsequent OTA updates without risking bricking the phone.)

Well it's a more popular phone. Not sure about somewhere else, but in Adelaide (Australia), htc is everywhere, but you can barely bump into someone with a Sony phone.
I for one would love a purer android experience, but I don't want to lose the active noise cancelling and answering machine. The thing irritates me the most on Z2 is that 'what's new' button when you long press home. Google now is not in the middle as it should.
Sure ROMs will have support when the phone is widely available, the trees are quite stable now and ready for daily driver.

I think I'll just get Z1 because it's almost similar to Z2 and has more support.
In case anyone is intrested: I currently work on a pure AOSP device tree for 4.4.4. i also planned to have some fun with L-preview but I don't know if I am able to do this.
You'll hear from me.

That's the holy grail of android. AOSP with some pumped up feature rich camera. It doesn't exist, on any device!
I ran CM11 today just to try it out. I really like the ROM but the camera is just garbage compared to Sony's software. Plus you can't start the camera from the shutter button (a huge benefit for me personally). The smoothness and customization is great, but the camera never will be.

The camera is on par with Sony's ROM when it comes to photo quality, it doesn't support 4k but apart from that it
s pretty okay?

Press the button on the 2nd step (the one which is more inside) for like 2 seconds. Starts fine here on Carbon (which uses CM Camera).

Screen is much better on Z2.
Plus, aosp been avail on z1 much longer and to get camera to work properly you have to install a camera fix app.
Z2 has only had fully working aosp for a few weeks. You will find new developers and ROMs appearing each month so don't worry.
And on my previous phones, I rarely run pure CM but on Z2 I'm totally happy with it. Fast, smooth and with an Android L theme it looks great too.

For just a point and shoot it may be on part with OEM. One of Sony's best features might be the 120fps 720p mode. Much better than iphone5s or OPPO find7. No such option with AOSP derived third party roms.

if you install the oneplusone camera app, it will start when the phone is unlocked with the camera button. and you get a little bit of customisation.
From the looks of things though android L will bring use closer to the gold of having support for advanced camera features, rather than oems having to build there own.

Yeah I switched to Carbon for a few days and found that the general photo quality in the stock camera was pretty close, but I still missed the Sony app enough that I loaded my RomAur backup.
Honestly I could have dealt with the camera, but I had a lot of issues with AndroidWear and my Gear Live not working correctly on it... Not sure how support is on other Z2 supporting AOSP-ish ROMs at the moment but it wasn't particularly reliable there.
I definitely did like the overall experience though minus the minor issues.

I'm not asking for a pumped-up, feature-rich camera, just one that can do what the hardware is capable of. Full resolution, full burst rate, and a working shutter button. I'd prefer not to have all Sony's extra bunk like ar modes etc, to be honest.

A higher rating indicates that you love it: it adds just the right amount of features, it's visually pleasing, and overall it's additive to the experience. Icons are a bit boring, side panels need more work and you cannot create your own themes.
I'm a Nova user but so far I'm on board for TouchWiz. I applied some basic themes (Vanilla, Android 6.0) and those assuaged any issues I had with the skin/icons. I also realized you still keep Samsung Pay and Edge panels even using another launcher so for me that's another nod to TW/Samsung for not hiding killer features while using another launcher. The Settings UI is much better and easier to digest. All the gimmicky "s" modes are gone or buried away from the Quick Settings. So I could roll either way. Overall I'd give this high marks knowing if I get bored I can always go back Nova.
Tolerable after disabling bloat.
touchwiz is better, but still not as good as nova. putting nova prime on it, and a new darker theme, this thing is slick. i love it. but i absolutely HATE the new, so called security feature, that makes you put in your password after a reboot, instead of just allowing you to use fingerprints. i mean, that's why we setup fingerprints, and i'm yet to understand how typing in your password in front of strangers is more secure than just using your fingerprint?
ive never disliked tw and don't understand why prefer opted for vanilla android, i mean N is only now bringing features that samsung phones have had for literally, years.
design is mediocre
not much change from samsung n8010 ui
as soon as root possible without losing any abilities/priviledges including google pay, samsung pay & my knox
Its a lil boring but better than ios. Looking forward to N.
The only bad thing with this year's Samsung skin is that we will recieve android 7 later. But we already have android n features like split screen view, clear all...touchwiz is full of features and that's why i like it. I don't care if i will have a 5k boost in score on antutu if i only have my phone to call and message people. Touchwiz is awesome.
Again, the only bad thing is that the devs need a lot of time to skin newer versions of android
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, but the emojis for the S7E are IMO hideous (not stock Android) and impossible to change without rooting and voiding your warranty.
I can't link to them, but you can easily find them yourself and see if they fit your style.
I use Nova Prime and bought a custom TW theme from the theme store to give me the look I want in SystemUI, Phone, Messages, and such. I use a Cobalt Icon set, and custom wallpapers. It's very tolerable with this setup.

My post was back in March, I bought a Note 7 but after the recall I am now back with the S7 Edge and it's much better now, especially with theming
.
The camera features are very difficult to access, thanks to the tiny buttons which fail to register everytime unless you are a sharp 'shooter' with your thumb. I wish they increase the size of in-camera buttons such as that of Large Eyes, Manual Focus arrows, etc. What do you all think of this?

Not a very polished one.
Dual window mode always crash one window
Also very few apps supported.
Other features also seems to buggy at times
Nope, im much not satisfied with those themes which crashes down some font styles aswell some places on using light skin it lags or freezes for a second or two.
emui!!!!!!!!
its nice because of the added extra functions,bt the ios-ish look to it made it worse,
anyways i always have my theme to get rid of it:laugh:
EMUI looks cleaner, when you delete their icon file.
The first thing to always do after rooting, so its awesome as far as it contains all the features that are present currently
EMUI 3.1 was not very attractive in my opinion, but with EMUI 4.0, I think it looks pretty "clean" in a sense that it made EMUI more smoother with some of the animations that 3.1 caused lag to, overrall, I think they should add more themes to the stock app that come pre-installed in the phone because I only have 2 themes that are the same, and it is spectrum.
Yes, Spectrum is their default one, I recommend to use Material VUi by @venom007 its awesome.

Seems like the theme Emui is abit to heavy, cause when I transferred from a custom launcher and put my own theme I noticed greater performance and much more RAM available...I feel they still need to work on their Emui... Appearance wise it's not bad,not too good too... Hence why the majority of people end up using Custom Themes and launchers

5/5 since we have no reason to complain.

This development forum has everything. The phone had its meager and weak beginning from Marshmallow and we are all the way down to Pie! If you are still unsatisfied then you have a wide assortment of custom kernel of all sorts for both battery-saving and performance freaks alike. What more! We even have the community-powered Sailfish OS if you have Android fatigue and the experimental dual boot patcher if you want the best of both worlds! Heck, even the legendary Franco Kernel is in active development for this budget friendly device. Seems like this device would have a long and fruitful life.
One of the few devices to receive such enormous development support. Really good.

I like EMUI5 and 5.1, but there are still many little quirks and sub-optimal menu navigation. Example: Cannot set data cycle period. Not all data cycle starts on 1st of the calendar month. Example 2: Power button options. Wish there are more options there like Mute, Airplane mode, etc. To mute phone via volume, it requires 2 clicks - 1st one is press and hold till volume is 0 then another cllick to turn on MUTE.
I am so far loving the emui but one thing is continuously bugging me that when using quick reply function through notification panel, I have to specially click the text to reply right there.

No double tap to wake and no double tap to sleep. These are core features. Missing in this phone!
The latest edition of EMUI actually seems pretty good when compared to it's predecessor. As you have the option of enabling the App Drawer.
If only EMUI decides for a cleaner look.
Ok with this.
Emui = good .
UI has evolved much as have seen all KK, LP, MM,Nougat on Honor phones and definitely EMUI 5 is a big plus (not exceptional though for a stock android lover)
emui is very good.love it on this phone

I love EMUI 5. Nicest skin there is out there on Android.
waiting for emui 6 for this device
EMUI 5.1 does the job.
EMUI is the user interface that comes on installed Honor and Huawei phones. EMUI features Huawei Home, phone manager, themes, media apps, and is heavily baked in to the entire system UI. While EMUI has a lot of great features to offer (Screen recording, gesture controls, camera app ect.) many people have serious complaints about it.
For a long time, EMUI has been considered one of the more negative aspects of getting an Honor or Huawei device. Over the years EMUI has evolved to be much better and now hosts a great selection of valuable features.
