Turn on adaptive brightness to get about 20% dimmer. Turn off the adaptive brightness to get 20% brighter. For low light reading turn on night light. Very simple option that shouldn't bother your partner.

The lowest I have had the setting with Adaptive Brightness still on is 1 notch above the very minimum. It was dark enough. This display can get extremely bright, which makes it good outdoors as well, though fingerprints can mar that brightness considerably.

Excellent minimum brightness (for an IPS panel) - I actually was afraid it would be too bright but, no, everything is OK. You might want to use some software dimmer though.
Setting it to the lowest looks more of night screen to me.
Keeping it almost at the lowest as my daily due to low light level environment in my house.

It can get pretty dim, but then it (slightly) flickers when you set it at the lowest brightness, kinda like when brightness is set low and the battery is about to die on some phones.

I'm posting this on minimum brightness as we speak and it's almost impossible to see anything. Don't try this outdoors. Very very dim.
Yes, the minimum brightness is quite dim.
For some weird reason, every time the background app is black, the screen is a bit dimmer than it is in the usual usage.
You can recreate this by going to a dark themed app (I use Spotify) and slowly scroll down the notification bar regardless of the current brightness.
As you scroll down, the brightness get a tiny bit brighter.
Don't know if it is only my phone's issue.

I'm not very happy with the brightness of this phone overall. Its minimum brightness is barely legible even at night, and it's has to be on maximum brightness if you're anywhere near a window or outside. Anyone else feel this way?
On its' lowest setting, has the brightness of a thousand suns. May my own eyes forgive me for what I have witnessed
My old screen dimmer app that I always use and have for many years didn't work on this phone because it left the navigation bar bright, but I tried this other one a few days ago and it's working great.
