On the handset, I "sound like I'm on a speaker phone", the other party sounds like they are talking to me through a tuna can. this is intermittent though. other callers I normally speak with sound normal (HD)
That's not normal.

Both phones are acting the same way. I am on Verizon and the issue has been with another Verizon customer. My VOIP phones come through in HD.

I have T-Mobile and calls come through clearly...but when they work. The network signal is terrible even though my other phones with the same sim card all work great in the same areas. Essential must have either a really messed up software modem in this device, or the devices themselves shipped with either broken or inferior antennas.
I'm on Sprint. I've only made one phone call yesterday while standing outside, and I'm not sure how I sounded like to the other person, but on my end the call audio kept cutting in and out like I was in tunnel.
I'm hoping this is fixed with a software update, I might have to switch back to my Nexus 6.
A quick edit:
I just made another phone call and half of the call the person sounded like they was a robot under the water.
After spending tons on other flagships and sounding like i was on a paper cup this device is very clear
Telecomm strength is in average only ..
Sprint calls sound meh on this device... TMobile sounds better. Speakerphone on Sprint is horrible. Haven't tried speakerphone on TMobile
Call quality is great in both receiving and making calls here in Belgium (provider: Proximus). Downside: compared to my previous phone (iPhone 7 plus) the signal drops more often and reconnects slower...
Horrible with no service in weak service area. I am with T-mobile and there's no signal at home whereas i see 2 bars with my OnePlus and S8.
Had a 35 minute call today, switching between mic and speaker-phone. The person that called me said the call clarity was Crystal Clear! I am on Verizon with VOLTE activated.

perfect in France (Bouygues Telecom)
Call quality is good but I find the in call volume very low ,am I missing a setting somewhere
I don't find that at all.

In Canada on Rogers... Call quality excellent and haven't had a dropped call since Nov. purchase.
Fine on Verizon.
Cell quality is not good with my PH-1
It is only about 2 or 3 signal blocks....
At the same place, my redmi is with 4 to 5 signal blocks.
Very sad.:crying:

Earpiece sounds really nice clear and loud when making a call with AT&T.
Signal strength is about the same as my other phones with same sim card in the same place.
I have a demo phone and this is with 7.1.1; upgraded to Oreo and speech to text stopped working. Went back to 7.1.1

Since my wife and I got our GS3s, we have noticed that sometimes when we call each other the quality is almost crystal clear. It's like we are standing in a room together.
It only happens on about 1 in 10 calls though.
Does anyone know what I'm on about?
We were both on Tmobile at the time. We are now on Orange and Three.
I've had nearly perfect reception and crystal clear voice quality on pretty much every call I've made and received. Granted I was on AT&T, so that might have something to do with it since you're on T-Mobile. So far I've never been disappointed with the in-call quality.
use the in call eq settings to enhance your calls to near crystal clear quality.
All these people having problems with their phone and mines been fine since day one lol excellent video recording audio, crystal clear voice calls and excellent still pics

This phone is HD Voice enabled. That's why reception is crystal clear. Also on HOX
I believe this will only work when both phones are hd voice compatible AND both phones are connected to cell towers that support it.
My brother and i both have gs3 and have not been able to demonstrate hd voice working and i believe its because of the cell towers/networks not the actual devices.

That is maybe because you both might be in same room still assuming you are miles away from each other !

The build in speaker is pretty bad.
Microphone cutting out during calls
I am afraid to report that my S7 edge microphone is cutting out during calls, and that it sometimes simply drops calls. I have an Exynos version on Swisscom, and I will unfortunately return the phone within the two week-return period .
Am I the only one affected by this issue?
My speaker start making noise within the call and almost muted. Also when I talk longer somehow something switching- I can hear it and then adding like a 'echo '. Difficult to explain.
and the quality is way worst than iPhone 6+
My earphone started making popping - clicking like sounds when the other person is speaking. It is kinda irritating. Any body else has the same?

Check speaker with *#0*# code
Same problem here. Speaker sounds ok on all three frequencies.
The problem is only there when I am talking to someone via gsm network. Not on viber or listening to music. Please note that I have used same gsm network number on other phone and it works well.
Beep sound
The only problem i have with the s7 edge calling speaker is the *BEEP* sound when calling someone. It sounds distorted.
Maybe it's my carrier.
Anyone else?
During my test of low frequencies, the clear sound was only in 300. The other two - 100 and 200 was kind of noisy, messy comparing to the 300
Is it normal or there is something wrong with my phone?

never had a call drop, poor connections or refusal of the device to connect a call. i generally have never really thought much about it, or paid much attention to it. so i guess, in a way, that says a great deal, in a positive light.
For me it is a bit quiet at times.
And also i just got it from repair because if i pressed fhe phone too hard onto my ear it started makinh wierd noises, like cracking. And somtimes it made it louder. Sometimes totally muted it. Now that its back its okay but still i think it could be a bit louder

Call quality also depends on carrier, network etc. HD Voice, Wifi Call or voLTE.
Also different carriers have different quality in their systems.
From my point of view the call quality is amazing with both 4G Voice/voLTE and HD voice.
On my carrier voLTE requires both caller and receiver to be on same network, if I call people on other operators I ''just get'' HD Voice.
I have not tried the speaker without root and Viper4Android. But with V4A the speaker sounds good, high and clear!
This said if there are alot of background noice on receivers end, I find HD Voice to be better than voLTE.
In quiet surroundings I find vOLTE superior again.

Its Sprint's shifty CDMA network.

Amazingly, it sounds ultra clear and when I use it with my car through bluetooth people can actually hear me without me having to speak extra loud.
FREAKY STORY!! This is serious
OH, another crazy thing, using this phone with my car FIXED MY SPEAKERS. Generally my audio in the car played loud, but after pairing my phone and running music through a downloaded app it sounded kind of whatever.. just the norm. But immediately after I played the same song through the stock app and it was ultra loud, clear, more BASS, MID, and TREBLE, etc. After unconnecting my phone, the car now plays music at around the 30% volume level as if it were on maxium volume. Friggin AWESOME!!!! That's probably a freak incident that just happened and may not have anything to do with the phone, but it's been that way for years and the first time I used bluetooth in the car it fixed that.
This is the best phone I've used in a long time in terms of call quality. It is EXCELLENT.
Speaker phone goes through very clear as well. My grandmother is very grouchy about whether I sound muffled or "far away" and she has yet to complain... she is an excellent way to soundtest my bluetooth/equpment
But actually, mostly everyone has mentioned the phone sounding really fantastic when I call.
The ear piece is adequately loud but just can't get over the quality. I come in very clear to people on the other side, so not having to repeat myself as much. Just can't remember the last time I had this much clarity... HD Voice I'm sure helps, but the last time I had a great "phone" persay was a Nokia.
Clear and strong, on T-Mobile in Ohio.
My first LG G6 kept dropping network, and I would cut in and out on phone calls very often. I'm not sure if it was a Freedom network issue or the G6, but I've never had that issue on my G4, so I swapped out the G6 for another one. I'm hoping this one doesn't have any issues, but I also switched to Public Mobile's much better network now too, so hopefully no issues at all anymore. I'm very impressed by everything else, only complaint would be speaker phone volume is a bit low, coming from the G4, but the clarity (most of the time) makes up for it.
I'm om Fido right now and my call quality is terrible. I can hear people fine but they say they can't hear me. And it cuts in and out. Im very skeptical about changing phones because it seems like I will have the same issue. I will dig deeper and see if it's a lg problem or Fido problem

I randomly have same issue with mine but 1. It's random. 2. I'm on Verizon, usually never an issue. 3. Most calls are made to cell phones so it could be on their end
I fixed the problem and it's confirmed. I turned off voice over lte (VoLTE)
I will try that. I can hear people really well. But with about half my calls, I cut out for them. Cells and landlines both. Very frustrating. I have AT&T version.

I cannot find the VoLTE setting on my AT&T version. Anyone tried adjusting the noise suppression or clarity settings?
Poor Outbound Call Quality!
I'm with Fido as well and I have VoLTE disabled since I got the phone (as recommended by the rep at Fido).
I have found if I have a case on the phone (any case and I have a few all of which are good reputable companies with excellent cut outs on all ports) I need to (almost 100% of the time) need to yell for the other end to hear me without cutting out, even that doesn't always work. If I pull the case off during the call they hear me fine (almost all the time). In all cases I can hear them perfectly.
This is driving me nuts as I always have my phone in a case and can't figure out what the issue might be. Nearest I can guess is that the mics do not like being recessed in the cases or causes weirdness that the noise cancellation can't figure out.
SOOO frustrating when a phone can be a phone! The rest of the device is pretty rock solid!

Try to turn OFF both noise suppression and enhance voice clarity under call settings
I honestly hear people better when i call them with whapp, and they hear me better aswell...
Acutally if i am going to be honest, lots of people are complaing to me that they hear me but have a feeling like i am 10m from the phone.. So idk.
I had to disable all the sound "enhancements" to get decent voice quality.
VoLTE= Off
Noise Suppression=Off
Voice Clarity=Off
WiFi Calling=Off
Now, nobody complains.
I have people complaining that they don't hear me well. I have to press phone to my cheek :/ . Will try settings from above, and post results in a day or two.
I can hear them but they don't hear me
Help. Everyone says my voice cuts out constantly and they can't hear me on regular voice calls. On Koodo.
I believe kenweise solution to remove the enhancement is the right solution. By turning off the Noise Suppression, people could now hear me clearly.

Cellular Strength is not upto the mark..
Excellent. No complaints. O2 UK. Very rare to find myself with no signal. Much better than galaxy s7 in this respect.
I get static noises and bad line on calls where the other parties can't hear me properly.
I use the X Compact on T-Mobile. Unfortunately it doesn't support VoLTE or wifi calling, so it has to use the older GSM networks for phone calls. I have fairly regular problems hearing the other party because of this, unfortunately. Of course this depends on the signal in the area, but other phones that support VoLTE handle calls much better in my area.
Calls over 4G (like Hangouts) are crisp as clear as anything else.

Same for me in France, X Compact does not work with VoLTE but it's not Sony's fault. Device is compatible. Blame the operator...
Quality call is very good for me even in 3G and with poor reception so it's still OK.

About the same as my S8
I'm finding the call quality to be quite poor, the person on the other end always seems to sound muffled. 4 out of 10 for me at the moment.
I would say it is worse than my note 8 tbh it is hard to understand the person on the other end. Its always funny to me how these "phones" never improve the actual functions of the phone

Hi, guest here. The call quality is pretty poor, I have to turn on the hearing aids so I can hear people with max volume during calling, I also had to turn on dobly atmos. Whenever listening to media its fine, just during calling it sounds like absolute garbage, I kinda wanna trade in for a different device if they don't fix it with a software update.
On Verizon and no issues at all. VoLTE high quality sound and no loudness issues. Great phone.

Superb!
I am on T-mobile in the U.S. in the Mid-West and the call quality is excellent as well as the reception. The Note 9 has improved radios and I have no issues in areas I previously had poor signal strength on my previous device.
Call quality seems a little better than my S8A which was pretty good. Can hold calls we're the S8A couldn't. Pretty impressed.

Call quality on exynos version is a bit worse than on my previous device on snapdragon 630 (1st floor of 9 floor city house)
Excellent call quality on [email protected] (Tested on Jio and Airtel) #Note9 Exynos
For communications, the Galaxy Note 9 is also very good. Note that the phone is compatible VoLTE and VoWiFi and therefore remains in 4G + calls (instead of switcher edge / 3G). The quality of the audio is very good, both in transmission and reception, with good isolation of the voice compared to surrounding noise and very little distortion.

The call quality of the Note 9 is pretty good. At full volume, the voice of the call partner is easy to understand even in very noisy environments. However, under normal circumstances, the caller sounds way too loud at maximum volume. The sound quality is not as clear as we would have liked, and there is also some background noise which is irritating sometimes!
The enhanced radios on my Snapdragon T-mobile branded Note 9 have greatly improved reception quality. In areas where I previously experienced poor signal quality/dropped calls on other devices, I now have a full set of bars and no problems. Whereas other sites focus on camera quality, color selection and other aesthetics, it's good to see one that remembers that the most important feature of a phone is its ability to send and receive calls.

It is you are Samsung should improve their hardware quality it’s worth less when you expand this much money and not get quality
