[DEV][SM-J530F] TWRP for Samsung J5(2017) - Samsung Galaxy J5 Guides, News, & Discussion

I am trying to build a TWRP version for the SM-J530F following this guide by Dees_Troy.
This is my first time trying to build a recovery, so I could use some help.
It would be great if someone could tell me or help me writing the Boardconfig.mk as I am not sure if I got everythingright and everythinh what is needed.
The recovery.fstab should be correct , although I am not sure for the usb partition. The files I am using for building are in the attachments.
Last and most important thing for me to start to build would be if someone can reach me out a proper firmware or whatever i need to put in the /device directory of my build environment.
I have tried sammobile.com/SM-J530F and some other site I can't find anymore but I could not get the .img unzipped by 7zip out of the md5 files to mount(tried on Win and Linux) . Any hint on that?
I am building on a Virtual Box on a Win10 machine running Linux Mint.
Thanks in advance!

try updato.com or samfirm app also you need to convert the img.ext4 to actual EXT4 first, Recovery & Boot images can be unpacked easily with Image Kitchen

Hey guys
First of all: I'm not good in develop! But i want to start with CM porting to our Gen8
I just get some infos from chulri how to port CM.
What have to be do:
Build-Scripts for CM on Gen8
Extract some Gen8 Binaries
Build the Kernel with Touchscreen Drivers
Build-Scripts for CM on Gen8
I started a Thread at the CM Forum about this I'll report here..
Extract some Gen8 Binaries
I hope chulri will answere me soon so i can do this
Build the Kernel with Touchscreen Drivers
This have to be done from a guy who has Kernel Knowledge! Anyone?
If anyone's interested i could send a link with an how to, i've found onthe web
Everybody is invited to help to getting this Project started!
Greetz,
Lenn
I'm not a great porter, but I've shadowed a lot of porting with the cm roms, I'll try to do my part if you host the project on something like github(both kernel and rom). I also have a little bit of kernel development experience.

I think he mean the step of porting CM7 to gen8 is:
1.Build-Scripts for CM on Gen8
2.Extract some Gen8 Binaries
3.Build the Kernel with Touchscreen Drivers
so, step 1 should be "1.Build-Scripts for CM on Gen8"..

Oh, well I've never really created a build script before but there are plenty of guides instructing on how to do so.
Extracting the binaries usually consists of adb pulling all of the binaries required for the complication that are proprietary/closed source. I suppose you could just copy/paste them to your sdcard then copy to a computer if adb weren't around but that's just extra work.
As to which binaries we need, I'm not sure yet but we can cross that bridge in a bit.
To make the build script, we should probably analyze other build scripts for other devices and the directories for them.
This thread might aid in development, I doubt they have the build scripts for archos but they at least have examples in the program I'm sure and other tools to use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969266
Also for whoever attempts to get a functional kernel for cm7 this page may be useful(or possibly me just making sure I read this later)

Okey, i know this Thread, its great except the fact it don't support Archos ^^
I'll send a message at these guys about archos devices and parallels about our gen8 devices ad supported devices, so we could create our own script to do it from scratch like they've do
But i now i go to bed^^
To start with build scripts I would recommend to find a device - which is supported by CM, if there even is one - which has similiar hardware as the Archos Gen8 series and start from there instead to start from scratch.
If there is no such similiar device series you unfortunately would have to start from scratch

Okey,thank you
there is no device similar to our archos that is supported
But is it possible to "mix" it?
Like:
Cpu - from a phone that has Arm Cortex A8
[...]
we put together all parts
woukd that be possible?
Yes, CPU might be the most important common part, then WiFi/BT, DSP (for hardware acceleration of videos), Sound, Touchscreen and in the end USB host port.

I haven't found anything too, but I did some research in the beginning of this year: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...nMod_for_Sholes#Prepare_the_Build_Environment
After installing the repository on the build machine, you have all the build scripts from other devices and can copy and adapt them.

a) adb pull (this is what the "extract_files.sh" does)
b) root the device and copy files one by one

Maybe "Total Commander" does the trick? There is a free Demo Version available. TC helped me out a lot of times when nothing else worked...
First you need to run s2img (not sure about the name) it is part of the CM tree. After that you can mount it as a loopback device.
out/host/linux-x86/bin/simg2img system.img system.img.raw
mount -o loop system.img.raw /mnt
already done from beginning first Rom was out....
use Android Kitchen

That could have multiple causes: antivirus software, low class sdcard, usb port old version (1.1, 1.2), bad cable, etc. It's not related to recovery.
@carliv, i have tried the recovery that you have tag for me but, it does not work... It does not boot into recovery , it just loop into a normal way of booting.... Is this already tested? Or I am the first who tried it?
Update: I guess I'm wrong, I have tried to flash it again with an updated Rasher tool and it works but it take a long time to flash it . Thanks Sir @carliv, by any chance who ported it sir?

For flashing recovery on Mediatek phones is better to use Mobileuncle from phone or SPflashtools from PC. Some people said Flashify works too, but I didn't checked.
I did the port for this recovery, because I did that for other phones too and I thought to do it for this one too. You were lucky I found infos about the phone online, because you didn't provided any.
Ok, I'll add it on working device list, since the test was successful.

It's the voldmanager number for internal sdcard, probably wrong - I told you I didn't have any info about your phone since you didn't provide something, and as I don't even seen this phone I can't know what is that number. If you change that in fstabs it will work well.

Usually the fat block number in dumchar_info is the voldmanaged number, but sometimes you need to look in the phone. There are few methods to find that through adb commands. Search here on xda and you will find that somewhere.

How to build custom rom as system.img file (not .zip) ?

[SOLVED]
Is there a tool/tutorial which explain how to build a custom rom in the form of .img file (system.img) and not zip file for phone which don't have custom recovery ?
I saw a lot of kitchen which build zip but not a single one which build .img file with proper permission/ownership/selinux label.
The same for tutorial...
Thanks.

ext2simg may be usefull or not according the implementation of ext4 in android... --> Test needed.
Before flashing, make a dump file [dd] of current fs and convert it with ext2simg. Flash it back with fastboot if things go wrong. [Tested]
Udate
I was able to flash a personnal remix os custom rom, rooted with init.d support [the init.rc hook] and busybox preinstalled [but need to be finaized in android].
ext2simg is a necessity since fastboot doesn't support native ext4 format.

[Guide] any full OTA for use with Locked bootloader, no wipe

You can download any OTA from Firmware finder (android or pc version) and flash it !
Currently it works 100% if you follow the instructions below to the letter
Warning !
Keep in mind that you are going to flash a newer version that is not yet released for your region.
This could result in having to reset your phone or a unstable system
Also the firmware could not be verified yet by google, so some apps could stop working.
Most of the time it is safe to flash a newer version when you read that someone has received it by OTA in a different country.
When i flashed the 185 firmware no wipe was done. I was coming from 178.
This is no insurance that it will never wipe your phone, so backup always !!
Check this youtube video for the entire procedure (for mate 20, but everything else is the same basically) https://youtu.be/g9pPi7I1SNc
This guide is based on the Mate 20 guide but modified for some parts, the only thing i have invested is the time to create this guide and my P30 Pro for countless flashes.
Check here for more info and download links
All other credits are mentioned below this guide.
Full guide: (WINDOWS Only) (You need at least 30GB free on the c: drive)
Get the all in one package here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MkNW9tAwpKwKR6fl3YsmlHWtfrvwAXQu/view?usp=sharing
Or download from the following site(s)
1. You need version 9.0.2.301 from hisuite (or the version from my package, is is slightly newer), if you are already using the newer HiSuite version 9.0.2.305 then uninstall this
2. Use Hisuitepatchinstaller found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-pro/how-to/hisuite-patch-hstool-t3910147 after installation of the correct HiSuite version
If for some reason you cannot download HiSuitepatchinstaller then u can use the FHHiSuiteInstaller, You can find under the "HiSuite Method" menu HERE, then unzip en run this''.
3. Next you need Hstool (currently at version 1.30), It is included in my download pack or download this at: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-pro/how-to/manual-upgrading-mate-20-pro-bl-locked-t3905924
Create a folder on your laptop/pc on the C: drive called Hstool and put the downloaded "Hstool.exe" file in it.
4. You need to download firmware using Firmware Finder from GPlay or site and NOT the ones from dload folder.
This will ensure that you download the correct version for your phone.
Put the downloaded file also in the "c:\Hstool" folder.
5.. Instead of downloading (step 4) you can also use this OTA file (it is version 185) this version
VOG-L29 tested, for other versions maybe it is better to use firmwaredownloader from step 4
6. Grab the file from here and replace the file in C:/Windows/User/yourusername/AppData/HiSuite/userdata/UpdateDogDev/HiSuiteConfig.xml
7. Put the full OTA file inside the folder where HStool tool is located and start HStool and follow the instructions
BUT when it asks to put a # before the entry 127.0.0.1 query.hicloud.com, change it to 159.138.6.23 query.hicloud.com
Known issues :
1. Sometimes the XML is being replaced automatically by HiSuite. So make sure you update this just before you start flashing
2. Do check if the hosts file is correctly edited just before you start the final step. You can do this by doing a "ping query.hicloud.com"
Thanks to @SLVMSF for the info and links
Thanks to @mikeos for HStool
Thanks to @Zanr Zij for the modded XML file to make it compatible for the P30 pro
Note:
This guide is work in progress and has been updated on 04-08-2019
Nice work, m8. I will try tomorow to merge some infos about hosts and what's different in Funky Huawei vs offline after i get my hands on a laptop and install all necessary for helping you.
Cheers,
Silviu

It's the same thing, Huawei is releasing international versions. The versions for dload method are different, but what i had linked it's what you need. You can flash without any doubt LGRP2-OVS.

That works on the VOG-L29 just perfectly. I have one myself
Got myself a laptop here on my site's work and tried to update using HSTool without Fumky Huawei servers, but with no luck . I get the No Internet Connection problem.
Maybe someone who installed without FH could enlighten us
I tried different hosts, including official query. hicloud.com, still nothing

Yes, Need help to understand what's missing from FH side. Same issue here as well.
Also, Check this Post made by me a while back. I Got ahead of the internet connection step a while back.
However the firmware didn't pass to the device.
The correction was in the hosts file, Check the hosts file I have attached in that thread. It has the correct FH Entry.
Did you guys try the sideload file i also posted in the FP not from funky ?
And did you replace the xml file ?

The xml file gives either No internet connection or this device is not supported.
