Mods to increase battery/performance? - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

My phone is kiwi 21 running Cosmic OS and Magisk flashed. I don't know how can I increase battery life. I have been using Greenify but this time it feels like it is not doing any good to battery timing.
Here is the list of ROMs I have tried:
1.Cosmic OS
2. RR
3. CrDoid
4. AOSPE
5. CM13 official
6. CM14 official
7. MIUI 8
Kernel mods? I have tried out Hotdog but that doesn't gives any notice able boost. Please share your opinions on how can I increase my device performance/battery timing. Its not just going to help me but it might probably help new flashers as well.

You tried HD kernel but did you even explored the added features? Flashing a custom kernel is not a flash and go type of thing.

Yes I have tried few options. But there are many options that I don't understand. So I don't touch it in case the ROM goes into bootloop.

1. Google search is your friend to know more about the terms and how they work
2. All the tweaks you'll see inside ie. Kernel Adiutor, L Speed have a brief explanation with them and all of them are only applied after the device boots up. Worst case scenario is that your device will randomly reboot, and after that reboot, you can immediately cancel the application of tweaks through the notification
3. Make a TWRP backup before tweaking anything if you really are scared of what can go wrong
4. Battery and performance will always vary on usage patterns and apps installed. Trial and error is the best way to know what's best for you.

Best, Stable and closer to stock Rom?

Hi to everybody
I am new with Nexus 9 so i need a little bit of help choosing the best Rom for me and maybe for someone else.
I tried the Remix OS but i find it a lot different from the desktop version so it is not for me. I need a stable with minimum to no freezes close to stock with minimum mods and maybe to be compatible with elementalx kernel. I found that if i flash a kernel with not compatible rom the camera doesn't work properly.
So i would appreciate any suggestions
Thank you
Resurrection Remix: For customisation and mods to your exact specification, with good performance, and OK battery if you use the Privacy Guard to control certain apps.
Pure Nexus: For the solid Nexus feeling. Although somewhat Pixel based now, absolutely solid in every regard with quite a lot of customisation.
Slim ROM 7: More of minimal, fluid, AOSP ROM with a small amount of mods.
CM14/Lineage OS: A purer form of what Resurrection Remix is based on, closer to AOSP with an acceptable amount of mods.
AOSP based ROMs are also an option, but you could also run stock and unencrypt it for slightly better performance.
I've tried a huge amount of ROMs on this, but since nougat, Ressurection Remix was the first ROM that had impressive performance, but I haven't been on that for quite some time. I recently switched to Pure Nexus and would definitely recommend it. Absolutely no issue for me so far.

Then you can boot to TWRP, Wipe, Format Data and reboot. Or manually wipe everything but system. SuperSU disables forceEncrypt when you flash it, so your new data won't be encrypted. For future reference, when you first flash a custom ROM, you can flash a kernel that has forceEncrypt disabled before your first boot or just flash SuperSU to prevent it. In NexusRoot Toolkit, you can even install your factory images with the stock kernel and forceEncrypt disabled as one of the options.

I would recommend that you move your files manually and backup your apps with an app such as Titanium Backup. This could prevent you from restoring any potentially encrypted data . Personally, I wouldn't restore any partitions but if you had to, it would be data. But it could be worth a try, although I'd definitely suggest you just back up the necessary apps on titanium backup instead.

Not a dump question at all. Easiest way would be to go into security settings and if there's an option to 'Encrypt device', then you're not encrypted.

If you flash elementalx kernel do you have problem with the camera FC? Because every time I flash it, it gives me problems. I tried fire ice kernel and everything seems to work OK.

It did quite some time ago. When it was first released, I preferred it to Remix OS, but since then Remix OS has gotten much better. But I couldn't imagine sticking with either seeing as the Nexus 9 isn't particularly good at multitasking to begin with, mostly due to the CPU, but also the 2GB of RAM. But I'd recommend you try as many options as you can and see what suits you.

[HELP REQUIRED][URGENT]Procedure for installation of oreo rom on redmi note 3 kenzo.

Hi,
Currently i have RN3 SD with miui 9.5.1.0 based on android MM with zcx recovery and unlocked bootloader using official method. I want to install oreo rom like nos on my rn3 but I don't know the exact process, i have done research related to it and got to know about certain problem like of date encryption when coming from miui roms, flashing of firmware, etc.
Someone plz tell me
1)what is firmware flashing? What firmware needs to be flashed for oreo roms?
2)how to avoid that encryption error?
3) correct procedure for installation of oreo rom like nos, including all the steps that i need to follow to avoid encryption error.
Thanks in advance!?
To avoid encryption error you must format all data from you phone using the recovery
To install a custom rom
1.-download the rom
2.- download opengapps (if rom doesn't pre-include)
3.-format everything from you memory (backup vids, chats, img etc)
4.- once you phone is totally clean flash rom and gapps
If u need more help tell me sorry my inglish hope u understand all

Don't worry about the firmware it doesn't help much anyway so just flash oreo rom and gapps +magisk if you want root access, and you are good to go.
Thank u , flashing right away!!

Flashing NOS..I think it's the best right now..what you think btw the best today for flashing that would serve as a daily driver?
NOS is OK for me, not the best rom ever in terms of SOT but the rom is really stable and the functions added are amazing.
The only thing I regret from other roms and miui is the scrollable screenshot.
BE careful though, Flash ROM and GAPPS without rebooting inbetween.

Yeah i'm having a pretty same experience here, though the rom is pretty impressive and developer has really worked hard but in terms of battery and SoT its really pathetic...i hardly get 4 hours sot and 1:25 hours while playing pubg with 100% charge, it went down to 14%.
But i think its common in every Oreo rom, anyways suggest me some ways/roms to enhance battery life.

I tried different kernels (Agni / Radon / Franco) and they are about the same for me in terms of SOT ... Even playing with frequencies and governor didn't change much.
The only thing I kept is my undervolt on agni : -65mV and the benefit isn't amazing.
I also tried limiting the frequencies (+ UV) but the overall hassle isn't worth it for me.
Apparently the EKM mod in the app section worked for some, for me it was a real nightmare experience ... So I'd rather have a stable 4h SOT with stock performance and have a battery or charger.
TbH I'm only on this Oreo for PIP and the google cam, otherwise I would have stayed on MiUi 9 wih MM but these two features are really awesome for me.

Haha..same here bro! I flashed this just for google cam and apparently the split screen too!?
I'll be trying my ultimate power saving features this weekend not suitable for PUBG but ok for normal use with YT.
- Agni 12.7
- -65mV undervolt on all cores
- Big Cores Disabled
- Little Cores Max Freq 1190Mhz
- GPU max Freq 480 MHz
- ElementalX Governor on CPU
- Mzm on GPU
- Alternative adreno pause
- Brightness : Auto Off and set to 50%
- No GPS and NO BT (when both active they suck battery like crazy for instance 50min of Waze with that kills 25% of battery for me)
-4G ON and Wifi ON ( good signal on both for this test)
I need to tweak the touch boost input not to kick in too hardly don't really know what to change now and I didn't change anything with the memory.

Well "quote=daily Driver "
That depends weather you aRE a Casual User or hardcore user .For me its good for daily driver I get approximately 7.30hr SOT on casual using but again while gaming The Sot is not what it used to be in official MIUI Rom.
But MIUI's performance is not as good as Nitrogen OS performance. So yeh its right choice for daily driver.
I finally finished my test and so far it's good enough ! Better tweaking could improve especially on UV and touchboost as said before but for a minimal impact on performance, perfect stability and ease of implementation it's not so bad !
Here are the screenshots of the results :
Please note that the YouTube usage is mixed I would said about 3/4h with screen ON and 3/4 with screen OFF ! So not that bad
https://ibb.co/dCnJy8
https://ibb.co/hH5tWT
https://ibb.co/cS27rT
Also the phone was ON for more than 1day without recharging overnight and I lost about 1/2% overnight.
I'm still on my phone (3%...) So I can't edit the tags for the pictures to show correctly :0 sorry

This is not an easy question, because it all depends on your needs and on what you are prepared to put up with. Most of them will do a decent job - depending on your needs. For me, I have found issues with virtually every Pie ROM that I have tried - and I have tried a lot. I think you just have to try as many as possible, and see which one most meets your needs while giving you the least amount of issues. I have eventually stayed with official HavocOS - but that may not suit your purposes. And I am always extremely wary of upgrading to new releases.
PS: with the benefit of hindsight, I should have stayed with Oreo - but I have taken the Pie plunge, so that's the way it is ...

There is no such thing as a bugless ROM - but, from my recollection, Validus and AICP were reasonably good.

I have a simple solution :
1.Download your recovery img file
2. Keep the recovery in your phone internal storage
3. Keep the recovery in your pc too
4.Download adb setup in your pc
5. Install adb setup in your pc ( don't open after install)
6.Copy the recovery file
7. Go to your C drive and open adb
8.paste the recovery file
9. Press Shift and right click
10. Click open command window here
11. Switch off your mobile
12. Press and hold volume down and power key to go into fastboot mode
13. Now connect your phone to pc with data cable
14. Enter the code:-
(A). fastboot devices
(B) fastboot install recovery recovery.img
(C) fastboot boot recovery.img
Now your phone will boot into recovery mode
15. Swipe to allow modification
16. Press install
17. Install the recovery you kept in internal storage
Thats it...now reboot..
I personally reccommend Orangefox recovery

Best Rom And Kernel for Gaming

What is the best rom and kernel combination for POCO F1 in the terms of gaming and minimum battery life
you won't get any answers here like that, trust me . People will give you that b.s line "not all rom are perfect" . i tried many custom rom and find that stock with zero useless apps and extrem kernel v9 is the best and use thermal changer too ..you will get ok performance . the lags which is happening in pubgm right now its purely them.
Im on stable 10.2.2.0 with franco kernel. Smooth gaming.. though my games are.. NBA 2K19.. GANGSTAR 4. AND PSP GAMES
I'm finally using cRdroid with stock kernel. Battery , smoothness , signal reception everything is perfect . :fingers-crossed:

OOS is better than i expected, better battery and fluid than almost custom roms available for this device, even memeUI
give it a try if substratum isn't a must for you
crdroid 6.0 with NoGravityKernel and with NoGravityKernel app for fast changing profiles.
That rom and kernel are the best combo for gamers i try and pixel but crdroid its the best opinion.
The best battery life, no fps shootering, stable fps, low touch lattency all are perfect.

Best rom for stability and most vanilla android experience

For ages I have tried to avoid rooting my phone, mainly due to Google Pay. But with the constant issues and also now that I've just purchased bPay for my watch anyway, I no longer need Google Pay.
Even though my phone is not rooted, most apps thought it was.. so even the fixes only worked so far.. so screw it. haha.
I would like to root my phone and try and make my Xiaomi as close to vanilla Android as possible. What roms would people suggest?
Is the Xiaomi a wise phone to modify? Will I loose any features (camera etc)?
I have only really ever used OnePlus One devices, and other phones I have always relied on Google Pay access, so its been awhile since I rooted a phone and I have a feeling things may have changed a fair bit.. maybe even become more simple?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
My device; Mi 8 128GB, chinese import. Arrived with unlocked bootloader and global rom.. somehow.. even though global wasnt available at the time.. have since has xiaomi.eu rom, most recent on the device. But im finding its waaay to buggy and im very eager to get rid of this.
try pixel experience
stock experience like the pixel 3 xl
almost the same camera if not better

pixel experience rom has everything that a pixel phone has including the amazing gcam
Use syberia! aosp based like all but best battery so far
You can try pixel experience, I'm using it for a while now and never thought of changing to another rom. This will be my permanent rom I guess. Pixel3ROM is also nice, but it's just a port so the dev heavily refuses to add compatibility features like IR camera support for face unlock etc. So main features of the device won't work kn that one.
LineageOS is just another option, but it feels so empty compared to Pixel Experience. Yes, it can be customized but it'll never get the capabilities of Pixel Experience, due to official Rom policies of LOS.
And another thing, my device is rooted and I'm using PE, and Google Pay is working.

Not everything.

About camera, it hss a Google Camera port that I can't really remember the name of dev, and you can flash the miui camera port from Magisk if you need that either.
If you have any questions about this rom, I'd love to answer them, I can consider myself as an experienced user of it I guess. I used miui for 2 weeks thanks to bootloader unlock timer, and believe me, when you switch, you will feel like tons of weight just pulled out of your shoulders.
Thanks everyone this is all really helpful to know. Sounds like Pixel Experience is the one to try first.

This is really handy to know. I was thinking today that maybe rooting etc my phone myself properly would give me better control over getting that set up to work properly.
One more thing, just checking over the instructions and a little lost on some bits;
Flash Instructions
1. Download ROM zip.
2 . Advanced Wipe: System, Data, Cache and Dalvik/cache - Already have TWRP from installing Xiaomi.eu rom.
3. Flash latest MIUI or Xiaomi.eu beta. - This step confuses me.. if I already have a xiaomi.eu rom installed, I presume I would skip this?
4. Flash Pixel Experience.
5. Flash Dm-verity and reboot into TWRP (Only if you're coming from MIUI stock. Skip that if you're coming from another custom ROM) - Guessing again, I would skip this as I am already on TWRP? Unsure what dm-verity is..
6. Advanced Wipe: Data
7. Reboot & enjoy.
Some background on the current config phone wise. Imported a Mi 8 before it was released globally, nor even a date was released at that point. The phone arrived with global rom I believe.. the bootloader was already unlocked however and it was in English, so I am unsure how they had the global rom on it.. unless was the chinese one in English? Eitherway. I just followed the usual guide to flashing Xiaomi.eu on the phone. TWRP was already on it, but it is a chinese version, in english, but with chinese text on the loading screen.. unsure if normal?
Thanks again!

You can't skip the 3rd step since you're wiping the system partition, vendor and/or firmware files will be gone, which are not included with the rom.
At 5th, https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389 After flashing this, reboot to recovery in order to do advanced wipe. Just follow the steps, don't be lazy!
Not sure about your phone, but there are a high chance of being a Chinese variant of your phone, check the rear glass for CE certificate logo, if there are any chinese text, your phone is a chinese variant. In this situation, be careful to not lock your bootloader.

Thanks this is really helpful.
When I got the phone there was a sticker on the back which was in Chinese, all the packaging was too. The text printed on the phones actual case is in English however.
Update: All done and all was a success. Thanks everyone!
Tried Pixel Experience - battery drain was so extreme had to flash another rom..
So now trying Havoc.. way too many bugs, no sound on alarms, phone stops responding to touch.. ergh. Battery is good though.. haha.
Looking like there may not be any rom which isnt free of bugs or battery drain on the Mi 8..
Sadly Google Pay, with Magisk and hide, does not work on any rom. Altho I managed to get another banking app to work by using Magisk hide ironically.

Yes, all great. Battery is fine, alarm works, no more freezing. Finally all running smoothly
+1 that. Everything works perfect for me on AOSIP and I've been using it as my daily driver for a week now.
I just replaced the default phone, contact and messaging apps with the Google ones with App systemizer and magisk, and replaced the stock cam with latest Gcam.
Recommend this rom :good:
