I've seen people say that they have successfully downgraded from 20i to 20a. When I tried it using the instructions at https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...ock-h830-20a-rom-flashable-zips-imgs-t3511294 I just got an error, but LGUP wouldn't even tell me what the error was. Are there any instructions anywhere for downgrading as opposed to upgrading?
I try without success too! Someone can help us?

What's a zv8?
And will it affect me being rooted?
Zv8 is a firmware version, but a few posts down someone asks if it will work on any firmware, he said yes. So as long as you are on a stock based firmware, you should be ok. Root doesn't matter.

Is downgrading from ZVE to ZV8 safe? Last time I did an downgrade with the G4, it got hard bricked. I dont want it to happen again.
Took a leap of faith and did it.
For future reference, yes, it is safe to downgrade from zve to zv8.
Guys is there a root for the H830 20i I lent my G5 to a friend told them not to update from 20a and boom..... I'm on 20i when I get it back -_-.
HELP! PLEASE?!
My G5 get 20i too, i try downgrade without success, If you get any way to root or use cunston recovery, pls share with us.
Very happy with my new V30 (H930), and looking forward to rooting it. I don't want to unlock the bootloader until I've had it a few weeks, so was wondering: is there any risk from upgrading the stock OS, that it will become harder to root and to install custom ROMs in the future, or to do any other kind of mod? (I know bootloader unlock will still be possible through the LG website.) Specifically, I now have 10f-222-01, and am now being offered 10g, and I expect it will then ask me to upgrade all the way to Oreo (don't know the version code for that).
Couldn't find any definitive info on this, but I have heard of advice for other phones that upgrading will make things harder or impossible due to encryption/partition changes, and vulnerability fixes etc. so I'm asking just in case.
Thanks

Yes. For H930, don't upgrade past Oreo 20D or 20R, until you unlock your bootloader. Right now you can manually flash the version you want with full image KDZ, which is superior to partial image OTA anytime.

While the official website lets you unlock bootloader no matter the version -- IF you have one of the approved models -- you have to waive your warranty. I did that with one of my open market LG US998 V30.
With the WTF bootloader unlock exploit you are not agreeing to waive the warranty. The WTF bootloader unlock exploit is also much easier and faster than the official method. It works on Oreo but starting with firmware which has July 2018 security update, the exploit is patched.
Simple answer is to not yet go beyond H930 20R. You can downgrade back to previous firmware (unless LG also blocks that), but why risk that BEFORE bootloader unlock and root?
After bootloader unlock, you can then update to latest firmware and still keep unlocked bootloader.
And we've talked about this SEVERAL times in Frankenstein thread, the WTF bootloader unlock thread, and I posted it at the top of the H939 Oreo KDZ and US998 Oreo KDZ and H939DS Oreo KDZ threads...

If you want to maintain the ability to root then avoid downloading any newer firmware versions than 20B(March 1st Security Update). You can use the LGUP software to flash kdz files containing the updates for your phone. It's best you update manually from Nougat to Oreo with kdz files rather than risk downloading the newest update that will likely fix the bootloader exploit. If you want to root your phone then you might as well go ahead; backup your data and do it.

Thank you, that's just what I needed. Sorry about repeating the topic - I didn't see those threads, and wasn't aware of the WTF exploit.

Convert the H931 to US998. You will have truly carrier unlocked V30. (You will also no longer have AT&T bloatware.)
See Frankenstein instructions.
This happened to someone else who bought "unlocked" AT&T H931 off eBay.

Well known issue. Read the Root Sticky, see post #2, point #2:
ROOT YOUR V30!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
It tells how both former H931/H933 need much extra prep work to run AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs, even when converted to US998.
If you look in the Guides section you'll be a thread of two which tell the additional steps for former H931/H933 to run AOSP/LINEAGE ROMs.

Also briefly mentioned in the WTF INSTRUCTIONS themselves.
See the Custom ROMs linked reference. It goes to the Root Sticky, linked above.
But since it's outside the scope of bootloader unlock, TWRP installation and root, it's not delved into deeply.
Many people like myself run rooted stock firmware with various mods (Anxious V30, Gravity Box, etc) instead of AOSP/LINEAGE ROMs.
