No sound coming from main speaker after using earpiece - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I'm new to Android since my previous smartphone was a Windows phone. I bought a Samsung galaxy s7 edge three days ago and I'm getting used to it.
Now, there's something that's bothering me: every time after using the earpiece (for listening a WhatsApp voice note, for example), then the main speaker at the bottom of my phone is silent and all the sound comes from de earpiece. How can this be solved?

Ear buds

I'm having a problem hearing music using ear Buds / headphones and was wondering if anyone else was having this issue on titan. The sound goes real dull almost like non-stereo and I have to hold where the 3.5 mm jack is and wiggle the earbuds to get a clear sound. I bought new skoal candies and tried 3 other pairs so I'm guessing its my phone but was curious if anyone else was having this issue.
Thx

ear buds and the like
It might just be your 3.5 mm connection...I tried mine out just now (I had not added music to my Titan previously) and plugged in and was very very pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. I had surmised for myself that my PDA was for phone and calendar etc, and the iPod or other MP3/4 player for audio - mostly for quality of sound. I won't make that mistake again. The Titan is good - very good.

DId you use IE while listening to Music? I don't have any problems with Music playback (Used it to listen to my music collection during work hours whole last week) However I noticed that when I launch IE (search, or by launching IE on its own) sound quality suddenly changes, and degrades..

Hm, I think it has something to do with bluetooth stereo vs headset profile. Weird that it happens with regular ear buds.

I think its defective, I'm going to call ATT tomorrow and have it replaced because I have to hold where the earbuds fit into the 3.5 connecter and put a little bit of pressure to get the sound to come thru. I'm glad to hear no one else is having an issue so thats good
I'm having issues too.
I had problems with my audio jack too. I was looking on here to see if anyone else had issues. At first, I thought that I had a failing headset but then I put another one in and after awhile it started doing the same thing. It's not right away but it seems to start up after a bit. It's really concerning me though. I'm considering getting a replacement and hope this is just a minor issue that affects a few units. I don't want to wait and have it develop into a bigger issue. It frustrates me though, because I had originally bought a focus s and the hands free button didn't work right. It seemed like an issue with the way it registered button presses. Now, I get this phone and the button works right but I'm having these audio issues. Argghh.
I don't have a problem with any earbuds , every one i tried works for me. It might just be your phone itself. maybe deffective? If i was you i would try regular ipod headphones or a friends to see if that really is the problem
hi all, question about the volume sensitivity on the titan. i used to have an iphone 3gs then switched to the skyrocket to try out android but i'm really unhappy with the android music players so i'm either going to trade it in for the iphone 4s or the htc titan (still within the 30 day period).
on my iphone i could set the max volume to wherever i wanted and would have plenty of intermediate volumes to get the level right where i want it.
however, with the skyrocket by the time i hit the 3rd volume level (0=mute, 1= up volume button pressed once) the volume physically hurts my ears and i like loud music.
i'm using the stock headphones that came with my iphone 3gs because i like the fit and the in-line remote. i know these have low resistance but still, only having 2 usable volume settings is ridiculously annoying because i can only listen to music really softly or a bit louder than where i want it to be.
how do you guys feel the volume sensitivity is on the titan? are there more than 2-3 acceptable volume levels for low-resistance (small earbud) headphones? thanks!
i use the included earbuds and the 30 level volume settings seem to fit most situations
Replace it since you're within the 30 days. I got a new one and the issue is cleared up, I had a defective unit. Very happy with it now

I just bought s3 recently and have faced mic issues, its not able to pick up voice easily, have to use the other hand to cover my mouth and phone for it to be able to catch my voice!!
I am going through mic issues.
I had a mic problem with my first S3 during phone calls. I couldn't do anything about it everyone was saying they couldn't hear me.
(The sim I am using is an British UK O2 micro simcard that I used in a iphone 4, cheap samsung, and samsung S2 previously with no problems at all.)
I then returned the phone to the T-mobile shop retailers, they said it was rare and not a common fault.
My new one is doing the exact same thing, I didn't update it nor is there a new update.
Can someone please help as I am lost. Thank you.

s3 mic problem
im having same problems n im on my third 1, all with the same problems. just been through all setting n nothing, waiting to hear back from my network provider (3). good phone but really annoyed with this problem now, everything is ok i put on loud speaker but this is no use when im tryin to run a business.......
I thought I was the only one facing the issue . The handsfree using the wired headset is completely faulty and the other party can hardly hear you . However sometime it works.
I tried some options ..
1. Dont insert the wired headset in the middle of the call it wont work.
2. Insert the wired headset and then dial the number - this seems to work most of the times
3. Accepting the call while the wired headset is inserted - this seems to work.
Not sure what the solution is - anyone able to resolve it ?
not the best voice receptions by the mic....but i havent got any complaints from the receiving end...and audio recording not great but better than the s2..used both the phones for quiet long
I have same issue. Other party doesn't hear me most of the times clearly. They say that I sound like i'm using speaker mode and I'm walking in the room with bucket in my head.
I used some kind of phonecall recording app and from there I can hear myself quite clearly. Maybe it is related to service provider?
Now switched to gsm mode only to see does it make difference.

Seems like noice cancellation needs to be disabled. Worked for me :good:
Try turning noise reduction off , in the call settings section

I also have the same issue. But when i go to uncheck the box I am not allowed to do so. I see it is checked but with light green colour and i cannot uncheck it. Any suggestions?
I am not rooted.... Does this affect?
mic problem in S3
M also having t same problem...hav done all the ways explained above...but still in trouble....sometimes mic works great but sometimes it dont...
microphooooone hole
I have a solution guys. Use left hand when phone call or grab it just for upper part. You are covering small hole for microphone.
I have like 1phone/year and never happened to me that i cover microphone hole when calling. With this one I have to stay focused to dont cover.... Its getting better but samsung engineers terribly overlooked this.
I phone like 4-5 hours per day, so i have habit to let phone just touch my hand and pretty much dont hold it at all. But when you hold it right hand your below thumb area of hand get to cover microphone hole....
and this is when someone else looses my voice over phone....
There is a microphone at the bottom and one at the top. How are you holding your phone? No matter what I do, I can't cover them up during a call.

Same here, cannot uncheck 'noise cancellation'
Wired headset only works when call made first, then audio plug inserted, even with BT disabled.
Multiple headsets mics not working that are known good headsets tested on other phones.

I have played with recording a bit lately (due to another issue of noise in audio recording) and I found that the upper microphone is disabled during a call from some reason. It is used in other video/audio recording though.

if I'm not mistaken the upper mic is working solo when ur on speaker during a call.
when u use the ear peace the buttom one is the main one and the upper one is for noise cancelation.

I only tried on speaker and the upper mic was definitely not catching anything - if I placed my hand over the bottom one, there was no sound from my side, even when I was talking directly to the upper mic.
Not sure whether it is a feature or a bug (there were some reports that the mics are switched by mistake on the software level) but if it is a feature then it is rather unfortunate one as it is quite common to hold the phone at its bottom.

You right, thats the reason for upper microphone - do compare signals from lower ant top, and eliminates noise (that coming more from top) from voice (that coming much more from low)
Other reason probably is stereo sound when making video...
PS
Comon guys, it is almost impossible to hide microphone with hand, left or right - does not matter. You should have palm from soft material as balloon to hide it Otherwise it is hardly possible by mistake, even if you try it is hard to do it

[Q] - Inspire running Icecoldsandwich -Speaker Issue

I have installed IceColdSandwich 8.1.1 on my Inspire. I have searched this forum, the IceColdSandwich thread and the internet for about 3 days. I don't want to come across as wanting to be a tester or developer or pain but just a technical person who got tired of waiting on an update.
When I enable Bluetooth and connect to my car Bluetooth, I call or am called, The sound seems to only come from the ear speaker from that point forward. I have to shutdown/restart to get it back on the back speaker. I know that will happen every time.
I have had another instance the speaker went to ear speaker only and I wasn't using Bluetooth but not sure what caused it that time.

[Q] Headphone jack emitting crackling sound

The headphone jack on my Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 (android 4.3) recently stopped playing music and playing a crackling sound instead. This crackling sound is in time with the music and if you turn it up kind of loud you can hear the music a little in the background. :crying:
When it stopped it was completely random- I was listening to music and when the next song started I couldn't hear anything, only the crackling when the volume was turned up loud enough.
It's not the headphones, because I have tried various different pairs which work perfectly fine on other devices. The speaker still works fine too.
I'm not sure of the reason... I did drop my phone into the toilet about 7 months ago and once more about 3 months ago, but this problem only appeared now. Can dropping your phone in water cause problems that long after the event?
Or it might be because I got my phone repaired yesterday? I had the microphone and the glass/touch buttons replaced, so I'm not sure if when that was replaced they knocked the headphone jack or something, but for about one day after getting that repaired the headphone jack worked fine.
Are there any things I could do to fix this problem? Or do I have to take it back to get fixed? And, if I do need it fixed at a repair shop, around how much will it cost? I've had a lot of problems with this phone and I'm just wondering if I should get a new one. My phone is out of warranty, and I'm not on a contract or plan anymore, so I can't just get a new one.
Take it back its probably hardware .
Or try factory reset.

Perplexed

Man: I purchased the first Gear Watch when it first came out. Loved the watch and the only reason why I purchased the Gear S yesterday was becasue I have always been disappointed with the speaker volume on calls. This has always been a gripe of the owners of the first gear and so I just knew Samsung would boost the volume of their latest iteration. Well I've been using the Gear S and the speaker volume on the calls is just as low (terrible) as the Gear 1.
I find it curious when everyone else discusses this watch they talk about everything but the call volume on phone calls/ Well I guess I am the only one buying the watch to actually use the phone feature. I will be taking it back and going back to the Gear 1. Might as well because the speakerphone is exactly the same with me saving $349.
Any one else experiencing this same low volume problem. Also, for Gear 2 the XDA folks came out with mods to boost the volume. Do you think you guys will be doing the same thing or volume boost mod for the Gear S. If so I will keep the watch because I absolutely love the watch
Personally I don't want to use the included speaker. What do you expect from a device this size?
Please just get a bluetooth headset to go with it.
I'm very satisfied with my Jabra Tag.

For the poster who suggested I use a bluetooth headset with the watch, I want to say thanks so much for the guidance. Tho it still leaves me baffled. I mean I spent $345 for this watch and I guess Samsung expects me to spent $100 to $150 more for a bluetooth headset to make the phone application useable. WoW, this is getting really expensive. Now I will be walking around with a phone, a smartwatch and a bluetooth headset. Now that is being a real techie.
The poster also wrote what kind of speaker output would I expect from such a small device. Well, some of the off brand, under $80 smartwatches are just as small and the speaker output is almost double that of Samsung's. I mean let's be honest here. You can get an off brand watch to give you notifications and calls just like the Samsung watch. You pay four times the amount for a premuim watch from Samsung expecting dynamic features that far surpass the off brand watches. But I am not seeing that, and this is coming from a person whose phones are samsung as well as my tablet and smartwatches. Just getting a little frustrated.
One last point. From the other threads it is my understanding that all incoming calls are automatically routed to the speaker, Meaning that every time you get a call you have to search out the watch and route the call to your headset. This may not be the case but if it is, it suggests to me that Samsung factored the speakerphone into the call application.
Any way, after all of the negative publicity that Samsung got over the poor speaker volume in the GEar 1 I would have thought they would have increased the volume of the Gear S, at least somewhat.

You'll probably want to contact the developer of the volume booster app for the Gear 2. It isn't that hard to port over to the Gear S unless it was a root app.
As for me, the volume seems fine with me. I don't think it's for using in crowded places but when I'm in the car or at home, it works for me.
For what it is worth, when I wore my gear s a little on the snug side I found the speaker volume a bit "concerning". When I loosened the watch strap up one notch it made a huge difference in the speaker volume.
I don't find the volume on mine low. I only had my first conversation over speakerphone, when I activated my SIM card, and both sides could hear just fine. Mine is not super snug, and I wonder if hairy wrists could affect volume? (I don't know where the speaker is, but just a thought)
I use my LG Tone+ headset with all my devices, so I never tried the speaker out again for calls.
Having same problem with volume, have to put watch near ear to hear clearly. strangely, the first day it was fairly loud, but once I loaded all my apps and settings, etc, volume dropped. Don't know the connection, but just putting it out there.
Also, have no interest in Bluetoothheadset on top of watch. Even though I own several
I'm half deaf, and I have no issue with the volume. Can hear phone or even music quite well.
This might help, go to settings, sound, volume and max out each setting my volume is
Back to normal. I turned call volume all the way ,but something had put system volume at half, turning up fixed the issue.
I find the speaker on this quite impressive. Plenty loud enough when I was at home testing with music and calls.
Honestly I would have to wonder "why" anyone would choose to NOT use this with a bluetooth headset....that would be akin to running amok in public with your phone on speaker all the time...and let me tell you there are people like that and it's very irritating to others around you.
Me I have my trusty LG 730 Tones around my neck all day, they are on and ready to go at a press of a button, the the battery life in these things are great!!

The speaker is in the left side of the S. If you move your hand to the right the sound will "increase" in volume. The explanation is simple...'you're not using it right' ( if I remember well that's a classic explanation from a big, biggest tech brand)
