My AT&T H820 LG G5 is out of warranty and LG won't honor any repair since I bought it on eBay. I have tried 2 band aid fixes - shimming underneath the metal mesh damper gasket and also shimming underneath the motherboard where the 3 gold pins touch along with bending pins upward. Both "repairs" lasted a week. So is there a definitive and gauranteed fix? What is LG doing, just replacing the metal mesh and damper gasket and then it fails again? I also noticed that my metal mesh damper gasket is a different appearance than what I have seen photos of online, as if there is a revised part. My GPS is now completely non-functioning.
Anybody? Surely there has to be a lasting repair and known cause.
Seems not. I have given up, aside from occasionally popping back here to see if anyone's found something new. I have taken to using an old phone as a bluetooth GPS transmitter. It's a pain, but it works.
Unfortunately LG still uses those same old crappy useless springs that it did several years ago, and they are not very flexible hence why it fails and then fails again. I think putting items underneath will only bend it even further slightly raising them would have been a better fix and then firmly attaching the case. Probably too late for you. The only other option would be solder in some more but I haven't seen the board for ths device.
Would it be possible to use the GPS antenna from my bootloop G4?

I've looked how to do this and can only see how to use a phone as a GPS transmitter for a pc, please could you tell me how you did it?
Edit: I found one, worked my way through until it came to allow mock locations within developer settings, to find that as I am running android 7 this option has been removed so back to square one

Sure. On the phone with working GPS you want to share, install btGPS from Meowsbox, and get the licence key too (£1 if I recall correctly).
On the G5, install Bluetooth GPS from GG MobLab (which is free and fully functioning).
Once both apps are installed, you just have to pair the devices via bluetooth, enable the transmitter on the old phone, and finally select the old phone in the dropdown on the G5 and press connect.
Is it annoying? Yeah, a bit, but actually I can keep my old phone (Samsung S3) hidden away in the car and it still gives decent reception. And because the screen's off on that device, it lasts for hours without killing the battery.
HTH.

Thanks for that Before I buy the software for the phone with working gps, does it require GPS mock locations on the G5 as it appears that functionality has been removed from the developer settings in android 7

Ahh - yes, good point. I also had to set Bluetooth GPS as the mock location app. Since that's the free app, I'd install that first and see if it can be configured. Also you can test out the transmitter app for (IIRC) 10 minutes before it dies in good crippleware form. Plenty of time to make sure it's working though.
Although... I'm using Android 7.0 on my H860 and mock locations is working fine
I ended up taking a chance and dropped a very small amount of solder on each of the spring contacts everyone keeps talking about lifting or putting a small piece of plastic underneath. In the past lifting the spring helped for a month or so before it started to not seek GPS again.
Yes, I've tried the whole APN update, using GPS Toolbox (which I've had before LG G5), rooted, etc but believe too this is simply a hardware issue on the contacts.
As far as the soldering is concerned, if you're near sighted, you won't need a magnifying glass but the contacts are very small so a very steady hand is a must and of course some soldering skill is required. I'll try to take a macro shot of how it looks this weekend. So far after a month it's been rock solid.
The 3 golden pins are from the volume control. The internet has been spread with fake information relevant to fixing the LG G5's GPS Fix as I also think that opening it up and closing it back down and so on just reseats the contact from the real place for a little while See the most useful marked answer for further explaination: https://nl.ifixit.com/Answers/View/394237/GPS+Not+working+well+at+all

It has also been suggested to add a thin piece of plastic under the contacts to help hold them against the back cases antennas.
Before this fix I could drive 30-45min to work and never get a lock, after the fix it locked on inside my house within 3 sec of starting GPS Test! Good result!

Both those antennas are in that location but those contacts go to the top corner where the gps is....
exlplains a lot, i always thought antennas required 2 contacts. i guess the upper one is GPS and the lower is wifi/BT.
thanks
im hoping this thread does get stickied! I had to do some searching around to find out this info to compile it for this fix.
worked. Thanks!
Plus one on the stickie. i did this and as you can see in the pic it only took less than 30 seconds. Very cool find.

GPS worked for maybe 3 months after I bought the Note when it first came out...it seamed like it would start to lock slower and slower till 4-6 months ago it wouldn't connect at all...it would see satellites but never connect. Ive been on GB ICS and JB...all had the same result with the gps. I've tried different modems and even odin flashing back to GB stock rom still the same story....im running AOPK Mile 1 right now with UCLF6 modem...

I personally did this when I was having GPS issues. I know it DOES work as before I couldn't get GPS lock now I can...within seconds.
And yes, there is always a chance you may damage your device but as long as you are careful and maybe watch some dismantling videos on YouTube it really isn't that hard. All I use was a tiny philips head screw driver and and plastic credit card to pry the device open.
Easy as that!
Well so far this did it for me :good: Initial testing in house was great, quick lock with many satellites in use. I'll be taking a drive later to see if it really worked. Never mind slow lock, I used to drop GPS signal often wile it was in use, so a roaming test is in order for me to be truly satisfied.

All kinds of awesome :good: took a 15 mile drive and it tracked my location perfectly the whole way and never dropped the signal or gave me the circle of vague location.
If you're at all capable with common tools I highly recommend this fix. If you're not comfortable taking things apart and putting them back together, try to grab a friend who is, and have them do this for you.

Wow. Just wow.
I was seriously pondering picking up a refurb or even the Nexus 4. I was at my wit's end. I figured, if my GPS doesn't work, what do I have to lose if I break something? So I did this, shoving a precision screwdriver under the antenna leads so they stand at about 10 degrees. I buttoned up the phone and finally got a GPS lock, albeit a slow one. After opening it again, I brought the angle to about 30 degrees.
BAM! From where I sat deep into a room with a window facing another house and a sliver of rainy skies, I was able to lock in my position in under 10 seconds.
Several reboots afterwards, each one confirming a quick position lock, I feel I can-beyond the shadow of a doubt-endorse this solution.

Good to hear that there was another successful fix! Feels good to have gps back again doesn't it?
Hello, I was using GPS a lot during summer on official ROM, but after summer, when I stopped using it, I've managed to switch to custom ROM. I wasn't using GPS, so I didn't know that it isn't working. Now, I tried many ROMs, including the official one flashed via KDZ. Nothing is working, so what should I do? I have fast fix, but when I start moving, even if it is 2-3meters the GPS goes nuts and lose the signal:crying:. Any advice please?
I had this. Unfortunately, was not software related in my case (although I also flashed a lot of ROMs). The sat fix was fast, but very unstable in movement, rendering navigation software useless.
Turned out the culprit was bad contact between GPS antenna and the mainboard.
The workaround: removing the battery cover, apply pressure over the GPS antenna (like trying reseat it). I made it several times, but if you try this (at least, you will see if your issue is the same as mine), please be VERY careful, or you will end up with a broken screen glass, or mainboard.
The stability improved 90%, but the precision is not the same as new (but I can use Google Navigation and tomtom again).
I downloaded the service manual, the correct is disassembly the unit and check the contacts, but I don't have that tiny philips screwdriver. Time to leave the unit in a Service Center, and get the contacts cleaned/checked.
PS: The GPS unit in this litle beast is very sensitive, but LG's quality control in assembly probably is to blame.
Thank you, I will try it when I will have a chance .
EDIT: Didn't worked, I will try it again tommorow... or send it to the service

My god! Sorry about that...
But are you sure the gps hardware is activated (in Settings?).
In software (ex: GPS Test), status is showing "No GPS"?
I've just edited my post, it's ROM issue (stock ROM shows the icon and about 5 satellites, but the CM doesn't show the icon and I can't get any satellite), the gps still sucks
October Edition just arrived, 6 months late, but it did arrive and it did work (albeit with the additional Cradle not in the box)
Charged, set up email to send myself the Google Play apk; double clicked it and everything worked fine. Activated my Android and all working well.
Downloaded some apps, inc spotify and mapmyrun. Added a sim card and sd card - not well designed really. The galaxy s5 shows how simple it is to do and retain waterproofing. The Omate, with tiny fiddly screws, rubber bits, non symetrical cover etc was something I hope not to have to do again; which renders my spare battery a bit pointless. I was expecting to pop off the back and swap a drained battery for a charged one, as I can do on a mobile.
However, with battery at 67% went for a 1 hour run and with GPS, Wifi, Data and Bluetooth active (music to BT Headphones and running data being tracked) battery only went down 20% - impressive! and confirmed I can give up the GPS watch...
All good, but definitely some sticking points. Wifi at one point wouldn't re-activate, without a long reboot. The keyboard can drive you insane, especially entering masked passwords - the keyboard can be supersensitive and fire off several characters at once by accident, so you have to start again. The 'show passwords' option doesn't always work.
The navigation seems awkward and inconsistent - i wish there was a back button, the swipe left often triggers an option or menu unintentionally so you have to go back twice and when the same thing happens again, it's not long before you give up and press the home button...
Maybe it's just some getting used to - day 1 and all that!
Overall this is an incredible piece of tech and will be a big benefit to my lifestyle. It requires a change of thinking I suspect, but one that is welcome, so overall I am very pleased with the first impression.
I think the answer to your question about whether you have day 1 frustrations is: yes and no.
I put on Lokifish's latest ROM and did a few other tweaks (principally Daniel Ortiz's recommended GPS fix) and then started from there. I played with the out-of-the-box version for a total of two minutes before I became monumentally frustrated with the sensitivity of the touch screen, and the keyboard seemed to trigger letters even when I was just hovering over the screen trying to make a more accurate 'tap'. Maybe it was placebo effect but the Lokifish ROM seemed to be better calibrated, though I still avoid using the keyboard for anything other than tapping in passwords to get accounts setup.
The first app that gave me an inkling that the TS is a 'keeper' is Runkeeper. (pun!) I'm actually not so much of a runner, but I use Runkeeper on my main device to track my cycling and I log my circuit and swim training data on the web which integrates across the other apps I use to collect and manage fitness data (Withings Body Analyzer, Myfitnesspal, Fitbit). The thought of being able to dispense with multiple tracking apps/devices and perhaps even leaving the big phone at home (the Z1s doesn't have the brightest screen anyway) was one of the main draws of the TrueSmart. But the real 'killer app' feature for me was the ability to use this TrueSmart as an 'all day wearer' *and* have it work in-water to capture swim data. But After six months of waiting (like you) and seeing the not-really-waterproof drama unfold, I was pretty much ready to put this thing on eBay on day 0.
However, Runkeeper/Ride with GPS plus Cyril Preiss' "SWApps" has just about sold me on keeping the device, or at least rekindled my interest enough to see whether its worth pursuing some form of aftermarket waterproofing approach. (currently being hashed out in another thread here)
So in essence I concur with/confirm your findings. I still haven't found out how to get the auto-correct to behave on the keyboard, but I think that's as much about taking a grand-daddy step back to understand how the Fleksy is designed, and how to properly inflect the gestures to keep things from getting out-of-hand (pun!). I remember having *some* of the same trouble when going from the iPhone 4s to the Xperia Z1 (before the Z1s) and that keyboard drove me kuh-ray-zee until I figured out the whole swipe-your-finger-to-spell-the-word thing worked. Then suddenly I wondered how anyone would type on one of these things any other way.
So - I'm coming around to seeing the advantages of the TrueSmart, and more to the point *really* understanding why Lokifish, Cyril, Kurt, Daniel and so many others here see in the platform - and continue to invest time and effort into it.
Oh - and as to the battery drain, I just ran my TS down to 15% and then connected it to a Waka Waka to charge, and while I didn't have it timed it's already back to 100%. Solar powered smartwatch - now we're talkin'. So instead of thinking about a snap-in/out solution for the battery I'm looking at/for a 'gator glip' charger cable or some other light-weight charger connection for the TS (I thought I saw them online somewhere, and OMate was offering them at first - I'd prefer that to the case for workout/outdoor activities where space is a premium). I'm also looking into how to/whether I can set up profiles that are more like "give me what you got" versus "all-day wearer" mode. On the Sony Xperia Z1s there's a "Stamina Mode" which tamps down on battery drain, but can also kill functionality of apps that are not in the foreground (bad news for Panobike cycling cadence meter, etc) so while I have *some* apps exempted from Stamina Mode, when I'm doing a dedicated outing I just switch it off completely - knowing that I'm going to be putting the device on charge by either using one of the portable packs I'm carrying with me - or when I get back to the car.
Anyway, food for thought...
Thanks for the reply, it's good to share tips and tricks!
I saw that Loki has actually abandoned TrueSmart. Frustrations with their updates and lack of support I think.
Primarily for me this watch was a replacement sports tracker, but my hopes for an all-purpose watch are not looking good as the blue-tooth tethering is not working with my S5; it pairs successfully, but doesn't connect, so the TrueSmart Master app is useless.
The TS also doesn't connect to my BT headset for voice, but it did connect with the JayBird headphones (although the cutting out was super irritating).
In Summary - BlueTooth not reliable and will be a deal-breaker as I would have to carry my phone anyway.
Couple with the infuriating keyboard and inconsistent navigation, (I've now tried the LMT dial thing, which also doesn't work properly) I'm losing interest fast - which is a shame as it could be so good.
For charging, my GPS watch uses a clip as you describe. So much better than the cradle which renders the watch inaccessible while it's charging. But why not a simple USB port with a cover, like the S5....(a proper waterproof phone). Even the solar charger will then require carrying two separate items for the TS...
You can set up profiles on an app called Easy Battery Saver - I used it on my last phone and installed it for TS. It works as described and easy to activate/de-activate.
I will keep with the TS a while longer, but I suspect the next Galaxy Gear, which is rumoured to be stand-alone, will be what we are really looking for...
Hope to hear more from you - I will post my next findings on the TS too.

More success with BT pairing
More success today - got the bt headset (MyVoice 312) paired for calls, plus the jabra sport wireless+ bt headphones for music.... both devices paired and switch automatically when powering on and off.
Galaxy S5 also paired, but no joy with the SWAPPS app. I will keep trying with that, but it's actually a low priority since I have a sim for the TS ($10 per month for second sim with same number as primary sim)
Tonight I hope to try the Endomondo app on the TS paired with the Jabras, since they have a special feature that gives realtime data from the app when pushing a button on the headphones.
I can see it's going to take a while with the TS, but the tech is really good and offers a lot of promise. It's all about expectations I guess.
If the BT goes all intermittent again tonight I will be v disappointed as this is a basic but critical feature.
One problem I have had after exercising is that if you hand/fingers are sweaty then the TS goes nuts when you touch the screen - there really needs a sensitivity option (like on the S5)
Any pointers for best option for gaining Root Access to Omate TS? I notice that you have flashed Loki's 'latest' ROM, so presumably you have Rooted and flashed a Custom Recovery??
Best way to proceed--I would be grateful for a 'Heads-Up'.
BTW--I have, today, just received my October Dev Edition 1 GB 8 Gb 2100 Mhz version--and am looking at flashing Loki's ROM 20140328--is that the one to which you are referring?? or, do you have a different device version?
Any pointers--gratefully received.
I can't help you with the technical nuts and bolts as I am going to keep it all simple and hopefully working. No ROM flashes, install PlayStore and get your BT headset working.
Just that alone gives you a mobile on your wrist which is pretty damn cool for checking email, facebook, text, whatsapp and voice calls. Plus spotify, endomondo and maps!
The keyboard is a problem though, being so sensitive. And if it's raining, forget using it at all - not because of the water resistance, but because the screen just goes crazy with the water drops.
I am going to try Google Search/Voice to see if I can use voice commands on it.
Anyone else had luck with using voice?

Hey guys, I'm like a dev October backer and I get my watch this week-end. I have just started it today and after reading the lokifish topic I don't think it is a good idea for us to use our watches until we flashed a ROM with a secure kernel (the kernel of the 1/8/2100 is unsecure).
If you want to root your TS there is tons of solutions as it i a mediatek chip.

I'm using Backbeat Go 2 with my TS, I love the "minimalistic" approach to it. When not used I wear them like a necklace (you can attach the earbuds to eachother) and it's not in the way the slightest. It works great for taking phone calls, and I've tried it with both walking, biking and running with no issues. Volume controls, checking battery level, taking calls and such works great from the remote. Battery life is ok:ish, maybe a bit more than 3 hours total listening time. That is if you play music or talk on the phone non-stop, with moderate use (taking a few phonecalls during the day and similar) they last for days.
From what I hear the Backbeat Go 2 is more or less a ripoff of Jaybird Bluebuds X headphone (looks very similar), but the Jaybirds have better battery life, fits more securely in your ear for sporting and such - not that I ever had issues with that. The main thing that made me go with the Backbeat though is that it's about half the price.
Ok thanks. I'm gonna give a look to this.

After going through two Backbeats (not the Go, think it was 903 or something similar) I can state they are useless for exercising with, no resistance to water or sweat.
I then tried a pair of Philips SHB6017/10 and lasted a month before starting to randomly calling strange numbers due to shorting out. I'm not a sweaty person, honest!
Finally settled on Jabra Sport and they're awesome, have been using them for a year now.
Thanks to Amazon who refunded and replaced every single failed headphone, even sending out the replacements before I'd sent in the dead ones.
Cheers,

I was actually playing around with the voice commands, you do have to setup loads of Google Apps, like Google search and Maps etc and give it permission to everything but it does work... I highly recommend using Nova launcher as it places the Mic search option right on the home screen.... which launches Google search... "Ok Google" and you're off.... I'm not sure how to get it to recognise OK Google without first having started the search app... Anyway some of my favourite things to ask for....
Take me home.... (Starts maps navigation)
Play some music (starts Google music and tries to play music)
Order Pizza (finds the nearest dominos)
What is iPhone (reads out definition of an iphone)
My 2nd post with this accound but ive been a member for qutie a while but was inactive for a few years and cant recover my account.
Anyhow i bought a Timmy E86 . Its pretty cheap but pretty good apart from the GPS
It has the mediatek 6582 chip.
Ive been through just about every mediatek gps fix.

When i got the phone GPS signal was non existant. even after using many different gps fix apps.
I then discoverd that without the cover on and the antenna peeled back i managed to get signal, put cover back on and signal goes. So the cover is blocking signal.
I extended the antenna with a make shift foil antenna, which improved the signal slightly and allowed signal with the cover on. Great thinking its fixed, however navigation was terrible, loosing signal and the heading facing wrong way.
Then it lost all signal again after a restart and woukldnt get signal again randomly until smoe while later. Satilites show but zero signal.
The antenna is rubbish on this phone,
I know this is probably the main source of the problem, i plan on remove the case cleaning the contacts and installing a better antenna, either made of copper tape or perhaps something else.
But im pretty sure theres something else wrong deeper down in the software.
I done some further testing yesterday managed to get gps signal and 3d fix. Since i was being a passanger rather than driver i could see what was gong on. as soon as we started moving the satilite signals would drop to 0.....

Finally tracked the issue down to really poor GPS antenna.
Remoived it, replaced it with bare copper wire from a power cord , made sure it was well twisted so all the strands were together and neat.
Used the end of the GPS antanna that contacted the board and soldered it to the the pad of the old gps antanne end, so that when the case went back in it contacted the board pin.
Success. GPS lock indoors at a window and still picking up satilites away from window but not enough for lock.
Until i screwed everything back together and tried to put the back on, the cable was too thick and it pushed the board. GPS signal no longer works.
Even tried replacing with thinner cable and solering direct to board but same result. satalites in view but no signal, not even outside now.
Guess ive either burned out the gps somewhere or something on the board got damaged from the cable pushing on it. Even removed the SMD contact pin and soldered wire directly onto the board. Still nothing

Given up on getting this to work. either ive broken something in the gps or the phones setup has went iffy.
Satilites are apparently in view but dont ever get a signal from any, all 12 satalites sit there with zero signal even outdoors.
The easy solution?
Use my old phone that can get a lock inside next to a window as a bluetooth GPS reciever. Using Bluetooth GPS output, and then the bluetooth GPS app on my timmy phone.
Result? Perfect navigation using Tom Tom GO. This is actually a much better solution since the phones GPS is off its using much less power. My old phone is an alcatel one touch which is pretty good for battery even with gps on plus with the screen off doesnt need charged while using it for hours as gps+bluetooth.
Another advantage, i can have a gps app open on old phone for speed and have a GPS speedometer running while navagation running on my larger timmy e86.
My recomendation is just get a bluetooth GPS reciever if your gps sucks.
Due to the many problems with cell phone signal and gps on LG G2, i will show you how to boost your gps and cell phone signal. It's seems to be a manifacture's defect, once you open the back cover and then close it, you can face this problem!

Looks interesting.gonna be try.
Man I hope this works! I never had a problem with my GPS until recently. I upgraded to Lollipop and within a 2 days period replaced my LCD./digitizer/frame.
Now I constantly get "GPS signal lost" while navigating. I'll be giving this a shot and will report back after using navigation a few times. I'll know right away if your fix works.

just do it!
Anyone tried this? Any feedback?

Well I tried your fix and I'm very happy to say my GPS has been working flawlessly ever since! Almost instant lock and no more "GPS signal lost" crap. I used a slightly different method (Bondic liquid plastic, Google it, it's awesome!) to elevate the connections on the back cover but it worked and I'm stoked! Thanks for the fix man!

This worked for me for a while, but not for more than a few days. I've now tried a drip of solder on the copper contacts on the back cover, which has been better, but that too has since degraded.
Is this still working for you a week later?
still working

I did this fix 5 days ago and my GPS has been working flawlessly ever since. As you can see in the screenshots i took just a few minutes ago my time to first fix was 1 second, and 13 seconds. That's about as good as it's gonna get!
Try downloading this app and see what you come up with. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
nothing is working for me, my GPS cannot get the right location (1 street away or 10km)
Did you try this fix? I assume you were testing while outside with a clear view of the sky right?

I have ever done this fix, but it didn't improve my gps...
On g2 there is also a software problem, you can try this on (don't forget to save the original gps.conf

I don't think this fix works on VS980.
Tried this fix with an old credit card a couple of months ago and it definitely works.
My initial attempt was using a bit of cardboard but after a while, it started to fail. On closer inspection, I could see that the cardboard starts to mould into the shape of the spring connector and hence loses it's clean contact. Using a piece of rigid plastic to prop the antenna contacts stops this happening. If you look carefully, the lower antenna on the back cover contains a piece of rigid plastic to keep the antenna from deforming.
The easiest way to tell if you've got "faulty" hardware is to firmly squeeze the top right of the phone together (about a cm down from the top) whilst having GPS test running. You should see a sudden increase in signal strength.
FYI, I've got the UK Vodaphone LG G2 = D802
Didn't notice any difference here.
did this today and FINALLY fixed the GPS. (didn't realize i had a GPS issue until recently since i rarely had use for it before). For anyone who is still trying to fix it...my tips are:
-use a guitar pick to pry the back open if you dont have a prying tool
-like in the video, get something like the cardboard off the back of those notepads you get free
-make sure the piece is large enough to go under each connector, the idea is to just give a better connection with the pins
this was the only fix for me. before i couldn't get a GPS lock at all. now i can get it in under 10s
Has anyone tried this fix with a D800?
