i went to the AT&T store to play around with some of the phones including the lumia 920. naturally i played around with Siri, S-Voice, and Windows voice commands.
S voice or google voice was the best one, and windows phone 8 barely had a voice commands. you cant ask it questions or do much of anything besides very basic commands like "call" "text" or "open" anything else would simply go straight into a BING search.
My question is what happened to TellMe or windows phone 8's response to Svoice and siri?
i loved everything about the Lumia 920 but this lack of voice command is bothering me.
are they still developing something that will come in an update or have they abandoned all development in it?
What WP is doing is to let devs extend it by using voice commands in their apps.
They showed this off with Audible, where you could launch the app with voice and then continue using the app with voice commands ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufJNiOpLqvE ).
Or you could realize how crazy you look using the voice commands.
I came from years of using an Android device and the only time I needed it was in the car...and I shouldn't have been texting anyway.

I agree with the "looking crazy" comment, but even more critical, most bluetooth headsets have to have a physical on-off switch and be left off in order to avoid inadvertant voice dialing or voice commands when the call button is accidentially pressed. Is there any way to disable voice command in Windoes 8?
In iOS, you can turn off voice dialing but you cannot turn off or disable the iPod, so in meetings or movie theatres music would spontaneously begin blasting, even if the phone wason silent. the only solution was to have no music on the phone.
It seems awfully arrogant for the manufacturers to not allow this feature to be disabled.

This feature is so easy to implement, I expect a lot of apps to add that when they release their WP8 updates. Hey DJ and Urbanspoon already did.
It won't take long for voice commands on WP8 to surpass anything the other platforms offer.
For me, the only deal-killer for Tizen as compared to Android Wear is the speed of S Voice vs Google Now. In the past S Voice has lagged terribly while Google Now is almost instantaneous. Has anyone heard about S Voice improvements in the most recent Tizen?
I dont use S voice so i wont know, but would like to have S voice work just like Google Now works on the Android Wear Watches. like waking up the Gear and saying OK Gear or S voice for commands.

No it is still extremely slow on the Gear S as compared to the Moto 360 (I own both)
It is faster for me. Android Wear's Google Now is faster, but I've noticed that S-Voice is faster than it was on the Tizen Gears.

I received a GS update and it said one of the improvements is S-Voice
Seems to work very well with my Note 4. Seems about the same speed as Google Now to be honest and I think it has a bit more flexibility in how you phrase things.
You can set the Gear S to respond by voice whenever the screen is on (which you can by flicking your wist), and it responds by default to "Hi Gear"
You can then say something such as "Send a text to 1234567 Hello Jim, I will see you at 2pm". S Voice then displays the result on the screen (which you can choose to ignore) and asks you to say "Yes" if you want to send it.
Once a text comes in, you can flick your wrist, say "Hi Gear", and "Read messages" which will result in S Voice reading the message aloud. And then you can reply to the text immediately by voice if you want to.
Seems pretty slick and reliable to me.
I'm not a fan of google feeling the need to listen to everything I say. I did search for this, but all I'm coming up with is people wanting to disable the "Ok google" text on the screen. I'd like to disable to feature all together, but it doesn't seem there is an option anywhere. Am I missing something or do you need a custom rom to get rid of this crap? Thanks guys!

I do not know if there is anyone who would have done this... the "OK Google" is the core part of android wear...... If you do not like that feature, you may be better off with a different wearable.
I am not trying to be rude, just can not understand why you need to remove almost all functionality of your watch.

Actually he made an interesting question, indeed. The voice recognition of the "OK GOOGLE" hotword isn't fully used by everyone (as with on phone) so disabling that should spare some battery juice.

I can understand where the feauture may be useful, but I myself don't feel it's necessary to have google listening to me at all times. I wouldn't quite say that is "almost all the functionality" of the watch. Why can't I activate the menu an then begin speaking rather than it just listening at all times?

That's a good point too. I'm sure that "feature" is draining my battery.
I think the OP has a valid point. Personally I don't care if Google hears me. However, I would be okay if I could just tap the screen to give a voice command instead of saying okay Google. Everyone looks at me funny when I say that part. Probably save a little time too.
Also, I wish I could just tap on the watch to have it input voice to text on my phone when I'm in a text field. I like to use Swype, but hate there voice to text option when I want to use it.
I can see how having the option to turn off always listening would be good for some people, i thought he wanted to remove ALL of the google now functions.
Maybe someone will come up with a mod for it soon.

just use it a couple of times, then the text will no longer be shown...so, just say "ok google" to activate the search (i think about 5 times necessary, correct me, if i am wrong), then you will no longer see the text when waking up your watch...
I'm interested in partially deactivating the "ok google" feature too, as I my main language is french and ok google works only about 20% of the time for me

My main language is also French and the detection is working almost flawlessly

worst thing with the Hotword detection is, that it's too often wrong with the detection and starts recording .. it's like you have a bug on your wrist
for me, it records about 10 times a day without me saying "ok google"...
but check it yourself: history.google(.com)/history/audio (remove the () , i cant post links because of new member)

These devices were made with the hotword detection specifically in mind, I believe that the battery use should be negligible. I personally haven't noticed any battery problems coming from the Android Wear app or the Google app (on watch, through the battery statistics.) most of my battery problems were from watchfaces still using the 4.4w APIs and badly coded applications.
That said, because they were made specifically with hotword detection and Google Now in mind, it cannot be disabled without someone possibly making a custom ROM to turn it off, however no one has made a true custom ROM for wear yet (I'm not even sure they can honestly.)
What I ended up doing is going into the Google account options on the phone. Under search - voice there is an option for "OK Google detection" doing this seemed to completely disable it. I don't understand how people are comfortable having an open mic with them at all times. Just because you "have nothing to hide" doesn't mean something should always be listening.

It may always be listening, but it isn't always recording. The Ok, Google hotword detection only records the first second before and after you say Ok, Google. It's not always sending things over to Google. Just because you have things to hide, doesn't mean you should be paranoid about it
The google services have indeed plagued many phones for their background services, alarms, and receivers.
What I cannot understand is how the 'Ok Google' still works even when I have switched my watch to Airplane Mode.
Not everyone buys an Android Wear to enjoy the google services. Some, including me, like only the Wear Faces. One watch, many wear faces, saves the money to 'collect' many different watches just for the sake of keeping up a lifestyle.
I got my hands on Silvercrest selfie remote button. I cannot post the link (yet), but it is easily googleable.
I was hoping that I could use it outside the native app, e.g. with Tasker. No such luck... First of all, I cannot even detect the button outside the app... I was hoping it would register as a Bluetooth keyboard or something, but it is not seen at all. In fact, I can have BT switched off completely (as well as NFC) and it still works in the native app an nowhere else...
Any idea how I could capture the button presses? The app itself is freely available on Google Play, but it is beyond my skills to reverse engineer it...
Does anyone even have an idea _how_ it works?
I am also interested in an answer to this. Just got one ran a few tests, only works inside there app, would like to use it for other tasks as well.
The secret is rather simple: it produces a specific tone that is recognized by the app.
Whenever I hold the Bixby button on the side I try to speak as soon as it comes up and no matter how quickly I speak or what I say it always fails and says it couldn't hear me. It fails almost instantly. How do I fix this or extend the amount of time that Bixby listens to pick up what I'm trying to say/ask? Otherwise this function is absolutely useless!

Have you tried the google assistant app just to see if it can hear your command?
You are supposed to hold the button while speaking to it. kinda like a walkie talkie button

Any suggestions on changing the voice to text service used when creating my text messages and other things? I get SOOO many typos with Samsungs version. Googles at least have fewer types and sometimes none. It was much more intuitive in fixing things if it heard me wrong as well. I looked all over my phones options, but am not sure how I can change to Voice-to-Text button in the Galaxy S9+ keyboard to Google Voice, or better more accurate one if there is one better than goggles. I like to swype with my finger to type my messages, but my Note 4 had a much more accurate/better setup for creating SMS and other times that I use the keyboard, but can't or don't want to type. It doesn't save time if I have to go back and fix soooo many typos from it hearing me incorrectly. Plus for some reason, if I start speaking again in the middle of a sentence it ALWAYS capitalizes the word I start with, even though it is in the middle of the sentence. Such a pain as I see no option to turn it off without turning off auto-capitalizing the 1st word of a sentence, which I love and have used for years on many phones.

So if u like Google speech to text, install Google Assistant, then use one of the apps from the themes and apps subforum for this device to re-map the Bixby button. You can then start Google Assistant with the Bixby button.

Depends how you are launching speech to text. if you are launching speech to text using a microphone in the keyboard app, then use settings within that keyboard app or change keyboards (gboard will certainly launch Google STT). if you are launching from Google assistant, then it will again use Google stt.
