Hi,
Normally when we press home button of Samsung tab/phone it minimizes all the apps and takes us directly to home screen but for some reason when I press home button on galaxy tab s3 it opens google search and there is no way that I can minimize all apps at once.
can yo help me to change the function of home button.
Thank you.
Did you have any luck finding out how to stop the home button going to goggle assistant instead of home screen? I all of a sudden have the same issue and haven't found a solution on the web
It sounds like your home button might be sticking. Do you feel it snap back immediately after pushing it?
Hope you work it out.

There are several solutions in this thread that seem to have worked.
In order of the easiest:
1. A settings change, changing the delay for the google shortcut.
2. Remove battery (I know, not possible with the S3, but included for any phone users searching)
3. Clear cache
All of these fixes seem to have worked for various users who commented on a given fix. There are a lot of posts on that thread, many of them commenting on the fixes I've listed. I'd try one or more of these first, then read the rest of the thread if no joy.

After installing VEGAn gingerbread on my brand new gTablet, when I press my gTablet home button I get the clock app, not the home screen. It also boots into the clock app, not the lock screen. Help!
I have seen other mentions of this in the xda forums, but no solution. Anyone have any help?
Thanks!
New information. I reset everything and started over. This time I installed another clock before rebooting the first time. Now, after I reboot and swipe the lock screen open, I am asked how to complete that action, using Clock or Alarm Clock Plus.
If I use the back arrow to get out of that, the Home button takes me to the Home screen for that session. If I reboot, then I get the "how to complete this, Clock/Alarm Clock Plus" option again the first time.
So, it seems that it wants to launch a clock. How do I stop it from wanting to launch the clock then?
Thank you!
This seems to be an existing problem, which has been discussed here, but I don't see a solution.
It is mentioned a bunch of times in this long thread for the release of VEGAn b5.1.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-884103.html
(search for "clock " (with a space after it))
In that thread, gojimi thought it might be related to a specific run of the devices, but there didn't seem to be a resolution.
Here are a couple other posts which mention this problem, but not a solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1018754.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-963413.html
Others have reported it for Cyanogen. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
I am also experiencing this problem on Bottle of Smoke and also had it on Vega-Tab gingerbread. Even pressing soft home button goes to clock.
Also I am pretty sure that in both cases it was fine after the loading the Rom and only started after rebooting for the first or second time.
Has anybody found a solution to this rather annoying problem?
Update :-
Also on Flashback v 4.0 through to current... Definitely only starts after 1st reboot after installing rom.
Is everyone experiencing this problem or is it only some units as rumoured?
Am facing same problem on Honeycomb on my gTablet. Not sure how to reset the default for home button!
It's really unusable after this starts as we have to press Back button several times to reach the screen where we can select the apps
I've seen this on just about every ROM I've used.. Gingerbread and Honeycomb. It's real annoying.. I had having to press back a bunch of times just to get back.. UGH.
Quick reply - I've posted this elsewhere in other threads, but the problem is actually a misfiring dock indicator pin. The G Tablet thinks its docked and initiates docked behavior, of showing the clock when the home button is pressed. The solution is an app called Dock Nothingness from the Market! Thought this might help some people.
I got similar problem and brought my Galaxy W to Samsung. They said that my phone got screwed up due to wet 'usb' connector. Cleaning those pins also removed the occational fail to charge problems.
hi,
i've been using the s3 for six month now and finally got all things the way i want (omega v34 rom with perseus kernel and jkay deluxe framework). except for two things i can't seem to find anywhere:
1. lock back and menu buttons option in the quick panel settings. every time i play something or giving the phone to someone else the back\menu button is accidentally triggered causing a "kill app" operation (long press back button to kill app mod is enabled). annoying!
2. in the contacts screen there is an option to scroll a-->z, i have contacts written in other languages and want to rearrange the scroll order and include letters that are in my language (hebrew).
are the two things i wrote already exist, and if not, from whom should i request it?
p.s i know the #2 issue is possible to solve in galaxy s2 with decompiling some apk's- if anybody knows a good guide for s3 it would be great too..
tnx in advance to the repliers!
you can request the first one in the JKay thread in original development. It's a nice idea
Or if you watching a video on YouTube and you can lock the keys with the lock button so that if i give it to my friend and back button is pressed accidentally so it won't kill our take you out of the video.

For some reason, my back button has stopped working. Regardless of which button I press, I get the application task list. I can not figure out how to fix this. I have rebooted a number of times and it still does this.
Same thing here! I already contacted Samsung and Sprint, they don't know how to fix it! Take it to the store to get a replacement !
Same Thing here
Everything was working as expected and the two buttons (Back and running apps) stopped working, i made a factory rest and it did not help, I am suspecting the cover that have magnets in it and I removed it, shut down the phone for few minutes but it did not help, I will try extending the time it is shut down and see the results.

Guys, you can try to pass to Simple mode, and then try if both work, if yes, come back to normal Mode.
Leaving the mobile without my cheap cover that have many magnet resolved the issue and both buttons worked again. Please check if you have a cover that is not supported which is probably the reason for these issues.
I have a similar issue with the note pro using a cheap cover which causes issues pushing the pro to standby while being used.
I can not be sure that the cover is the reason for that, however this resolved the issues for me at least for now. I will try to reproduce it again and check,
Left the Phone with the cover on and same problem pops up again, and when I took the phone from the cover the buttons started working again but after few minutes, the buttons goes bad again (without the cover) so the issue is not the cover. Too bad and don't know what to do except to send it for repair.
Here is a "solution" that has worked for me. My S6 is the Verizon variant, but I think these steps will work on any Service Provider.
Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity and interaction > Assistant menu
From here, toggle the switch to "ON". This will create a hovering circle with a window with four panes inside it. If you interactive with the hovering circle it will open a new window in which you have access to the back and recent apps buttons via an onscreen button.
Not sure what has disabled the hardware buttons, but this should give you access via onscreen software.
I know it's not a true fix, but a work around.
If someone finds a true fix, please post it! But in the meantime ...
I hope this helps!
Found a Solution for me
My back button stopped to work. After trying many different things.
I plugged my earphoneson in..... and surprisingly . Came back to life.
BAck Button & Open Applications Button Not Working on Samsung Glaxy S7 Edge
Hi
i bought Samsung Glaxy S7 Edge just few days ago, up to yesterday everything was fine, but suddenly back button & Multi folder/Application button stopped lightingup and working.
i have tried all the things i knew, rest, factory reset , cache wipe, factory wipe but nothing is working with me.
i cant take it back to the shop where it was bought from because it was in other country.
Any body else having same issue ? or any suggestion ??
BR
On my Galaxy S6 Edge that if you press the back button with your finger covering the whole button, the recent apps thing comes up. Buuut if you press the right side of the button (but don't cover the whole button) then the back button works.....I dunno why. I have to use the Accessability thingy like some iPhones have though for the most part...if anybody finds a better solution then please reply!!!!!
Here is a tip: if you have problems with a hardware button, try using the application "all in one gestures"to change the functionality of some of the buttons. Some features require root, but most just require accessibility
Root yours and enable onscreen navbar.
open dial pad and dial *#2663# then tap tsp fw update it will surely work

Thanks for the temporary fix..
But has anyone got a permanent fix? Having issues with unusable back and recent buttons on my s7.
Buttons were pressed unknowingly whilst in camera mode, perhaps holding down recents button which brings up split screen..looked abit odd when i picked it up!
Very frustrating that there is no fix!
My issue solved by initiating this update.

So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

very useful. menu for navigation is long long outdate. software nave or 3 dots is the customary way to go. adding a secondary menu button is redudant and unnecessary. my little ewww comment brought a lot to the table. you tryingt to call me out on it is less useful.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.

.
Good morning.
I am looking for a very simple, single purpose "app" that doesn't seem to exist
I want an app that simply returns to the home screen.
Reason:
I want to use my Bixby key on Galaxy S10 as "Home Button" (BUT):
I do not want to use button re-mappers as this is redundant and irritating.
(So that any phone's gesture or key settings that will load an "app" (but not an activity) can go to home screen without other monitoring or remapping software running).
The stock software already allows the remap of the Bixby button to a different "application" (Not activity), So I am in search of a small app that does just that - simply calls / loads / launches the home screen and closes. Period. I've read many people want the key as "back button" and a small app that does only "back" would be cool too. I wish I had time to SDK and tinker like I used to do with Windows :
Anyone know of such a thing, or willing to throw a paragraph of code into an APK for fun ? :fingers-crossed:
Thanks everyone...
