Hi,
I was wondering what is the development effort needed to fully customize an Android-based ROM (such as Lineage OS), with the launcher, lock screen, settings, icons...
I see many, many apps that can achieve this on Google Play store, but probably this can be done from scratch (I'm considering offering a custom Android ROM for iOS users who want to switch to Android phones)
Any suggestions/contacts appreciated!

Hello all,
newbie user here, just became a GS3 user, and I'm wondering if I should root.
I enjoy changing themes on devices as I get tired of using a particular theme for too long, and I wanted to know if rooting a device has any advantages over, say, a launcher like GO Launcher EX, when it comes to customizing the look.
I don't plan on making any themes myself, as I'm pretty bad at design, but I do intend to try my hand at app development at some point as I have a background in programming.
For many lesser-known devices, especially Chinese ones (Huawei etc.) Chinese developers like ShenduOS and MIUI create ROMs that work better or are more up-to-date than community builds of Cyanogenmod and other more vanilla/stock custom ROMs.
However, it seems to be quite difficult to remove the customised interface, which is developed primarily for native Chinese users, and is still unpleasant to use even after the system language is changed, from these ROMs.
Using ShenduOS on the Huawei Honour (U8860) as an example, the following elements are significantly different from stock Android:
-Keyboard (this can be fixed by installing an available stock Android keyboard apk from the appropriate Android version)
-Home/Launcher (easily fixed with either a stock launcher or something like ADW)
-Colour scheme of menus (is black-on-white by default, even in Android versions where a black menu background was the default. I imagine this is caused by the Shendu Theme app, but I would rather find a way to remove the Shendu themes completely than simply install a theme which looks stock)
-Settings app (Perhaps the most annoying part of the interface. When the language is changed, titles of sections in the app become poorly-translated English words that mean very little. Attempts to flash a Settings.apk from a CM10 dev build for the same device broke the OS)
-Notification bar and pulldown tray
I think that most of these differences are caused by Shendu's versions of the apk's included in system/app, however I have no idea how to go about replacing some of these apks or which ones are causing which interface problem.
This is probably similar to removing HTC Sense/Samsung Touchwiz from Android builds, so if anyone has experience in creating ROMs with stock Android interfaces from those with customised interfaces, your help would be appreciated
I was a winmo chef, and at that time, the homescreen of my rom was customized out of the box to deliver a unique experience.
Is it possible to do that with a launcher on android? I mean custom settings and personalization to be applied right on the first boot?
I'm asking this because I noticed that all the launchers on custom ROMs are on default settings, which makes it difficult to differentiate ROMs. Everyone is just concerned about the amount of tweaks available, but the rom itself does not offer a unique experience out of the box.
I have had no experience with android rom development, but I'm looking into it, and any help regarding this matter is much appreciated!
Edit: I think this should probably be in the Chef Central. I'm sorry about this. Can a mod move this to the appropriate section please?
Can a mod please move this to android chef central?
If you built the ROM from source then maybe by editing the source code of the aosp launcher but other then that no. Android works very differently then winmo did.
Hey,
I am wondering, is there any Nexus-like ROMs for our device? I am not talking about CM/CAF/AOSP based comparisons.
Every custom ROM I have tried so far have their own "customizations" or "addings". Some offer to change the DPI, some enable sound mods, many let you pick which wound you want to adjust from the top volume panel, again many let you set display things, most come with extra apps like creator team's own file manager, almost all of them let you have themes etc...
What I am asking; is there any way to make this device be what if Google would made it be as per the "user" aspect. It doesn't matter if it is based on CAF or has some closed sourse elements to make camera work. Just looking for a ROM that is as simple as a Nexus on the user experience side (no extra features or extra tabs on the settings menu) and also stable enough to be a daily driver (doesn't have to compete with stock's camera or music performance, or doesn't have to be awesomly calibrated like other custom ROMs).
Today I have tried AOSP from FXPblog but apperiently it is there to show us that Sony cares and to be a base for software developers, rather than being a daily driver. Because it did not even have camera (don't know if there is a way to add it).
So basically, is there a ROM that I will be feeling like I am using a Nexus device (of course I'll add GApps myself) instead of a custom ROM on a Z2 when using, withour caring what's or how it is running on the background?
Thanks
Nope, the closest you get would be AOSPA it is CM based and has some additions but its the most closest working Rom avaliable for Z2 as far as i know
Can anyone make PIE ROM which is look like samsung one ui or sony xperia ui with their media apps like music, gallary, and some of their best features or any different look.
Because early days some dev make that type of roms but now days no one make that type of rom and I just bored of same look of every rom
Lol??
Not many innovations had happened in custom ROMs scene for a long time in terms of UI/UX design and overall development is more or less dedicated on porting existing "features". And I doubt that's going to change, since you need people who are capable of not just developing applications, but also who have knowledge of human interaction and design to create something different/new. No one would provide these type of skills for a free of charge, since these are more creative and not just simply technical. So demand of people with said skills are insanely high in the job market. That said there is enough opportunities for them to express themselves out there for a good pay. Not to mention it's not a job for one person but a dedicated team.
So the best that you can expect is ports of said apps and ROMs. And I'm not completely sure, if these specific ROMs that you have mentioned are ported, but I'm certain that you can find quite a few of them from a different (to your mentioned) manufacturers out there. And of course, these types of ports might not be perfectly stable or functional, since, in most cases, you would need to reverse engineer parts of them to make sure they are working fully as intended, because they might not be available as an open source material. So it's not really that simple. But if all you need is a ROM with Samsung's etc. apps, I'm pretty sure you can do that yourself by changing included apps with the ones you like... Not to mention the fact that most of the time - by default - if not in apps, you spend by looking at a phone's launcher. So change that to the likes of Nova or sth. which lets you customize your experience to something more unique.
Try Project Pearl or DotOS
They have some different UI
I don't remember but may be at the time of cyanogen there is cm theme app which have samsung ui, htc ui, xperia ui and different themes which change icons, wallpapers, statusbar icons, fonts, notification, settings, dialers, message, calc app looks.
