Elephone p8 mini - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I'm new here, so if my post is in the wrong place, please help me, and move it to the correct location!
I have a new device, Elephone p8 mini, but I have not found any information anywhere on root, custom recovery, custom rom, etc.
If anybody can help me, I'm grateful!

Recovery seems to be up on 4PDA, but since I don't speak russian, I'm unable to login/register to download the files

hello, here is the official forum of p8 mini

Recovery compiled on the basis of the kernel firmware Android 7.0 version Elephone_P8_Mini_20170727 / Thu Jul 27 18:26:37 CST 2017
4PDA has 2 warnings for this...
WARNING !! After the installation of the recovery, subject to changes in the system, SuperSU installation is required, otherwise the system will not boot.
"Does not see internal memory" (can not decrypt the / data partition). The solution is to format the partition. ( All your data and programs are lost! )

Custom Rom
Can someone tell me why there is no Custom ROM available for the Elephone P8 Mini? I have found that there are MediaTek (Custom) ROM available for example like the Vernee Apollo Lite.
Would be nice if this also possible for the Elephone P8 mini

Hello,
Quite old posts here, but just to tell, there's no proper custom rom because kernel sources haven't been released.
(I try to ask directly elephone but they didn't want to help ... )
I have somewhat of a kernel running for twrp and stock rom, without camera drivers (didn't manage to find them in order the 3 camera work well)
My firsts attempts can be found here : https://github.com/Blop1759/android_kernel_elephone_p8_mini
Dtb are ok, build is ok on its own (not along with a complete rom build) and for twrp.
Since those attempts, I burned the charging chip so didn't get further :/

thank you! will try it out.
(its a shame elephone is so crappy supporting their own products)

Hello,
I finally built another p8 mini from various pieces, including a p8 3d motherboard as they are the same (and I have a charging chip to come for my original one), so I will get a new try for a rom (7.1.2 at first)

if you have android 4.1.2 - use Framaroot.apk, install it in your z5
if you have android 4.2.2 - use chinesse Vroot. install it in your computer and follow instruction.
all methods are working. I`m used both methods on different ROM`s

Root (check) Recovery & ROM (no check)
Greets to all,
I just got this device myself & rooted it yesterday with the Framaroot.apk & Gandalf exploit. It's a very nice phone & takes great photos! (Btw, I sold my Xperia Z Ultra & used the money to buy this phone; the Z Ultra was simply too big, had no flash & screen mirroring was completely unstable). Unfortunately, almost everything out there about this phone is in Chinese; even the recoveries are in Chinese. I found a few pages about a Kitkat 4.4 ROM for this device, but the download is in 3 parts and online surveys must be completed to activate the downloads One of the pages can be found if you search for "Upgrade/Update ZTE Nubia Z5 to 4.4 KitKat" but I think it's likely bogus.
If anyone can find an English recovery or decent ROM for this device, please post & thanks in advance!
Edit: It seems there are ROMS and CWM recovery on the MIUI website (search "ZTE" and separately "recovery" on the English [en] site). I'm downloading a version 5 ROM but may not have time to check it out today.
Thanks bro

Thanks bro, i will try that one too... if you already test it please tell us how about the rom..!!!
You use which? ZTE Z5 MINI? or how do you know what model to download the rom???
waiting on a recovery
Hi cesarguaro,
Unfortunately, the recoveries mentioned on the site are not for Qualcom based devices like our NX501s; therefore, I haven't tried the ROM I found for the Nubia Z5 yet. It's too bad the stock recovery can't be used for backing up the ROM even though it can likely be used to install the ROM (which is too risky without a backup IMO). Have you installed a non-Chinese, usable recovery yet?
As for Miui, if you go to en dot miui dot com, you'll see the downloads link right at the top. Under "Brands" click on the ZTE logo and you're on your way

[Q] P780 CN version, version 03/2014+, ROM and other tools

Sorry folks if this is already somewhere here but i have not found it after already a few days of browsing.
I am looking for a lightweight (dont really care if vibeui, aosp, etc), stable (daily usage), fully working ROM (no problems with led notif, compass, etc), preferably 4.4.2. KitKat for chinese version of Lenovo P780 manufactured after 03/2014 and all other tools (custom recovery etc). What is essential, that i need to repartition the internal memory for maximum space for apps.
My current is 4.2.1 P780_S136_140306 , baseband : P780.V16, 2013/07/03 17:08 , i have a dtae on battery 140410 and 2014/05 on box. From what i gather this is a new 2014 version and on this one you should use ROMs based on 4.4 KitKat ??
So far i have found only two ROMs suitable, but not all criteria are met:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/slx-rom-lenovo-p780-t2722775 - based on 4.2 JB, so probably not working on new version ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/alice-project-lenovo-p780-android-4-4-3-t2983584 - default memory partitioning
Any other suggestions ?
Is there any repartition script working for CN version (AromaFM working for CN version?), specifically for 03/2014+ version -- ?
So far i have found out for any flashing via SP Flash tools i need to use modified preloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2934284&d=1410527296 -- check
I did not found any custom recovery specifically mentioning this new version, but it looks like recoveries working ok for this new version -- ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/recovery-multiple-recoveries-lenovo-t2962970
is there any specific version of SPFlash Tool and drivers to be used for this new version -- ? - i guess not but just to be sure, which are best to be used
Any modems to be flashed after flashing ROM (freqs in my country are GSM 900/1800, W-CDMA 1900/2100 ) -- ?
Any more thing i should be aware of ?

Hi. Did you try to OTA update your ROM? This could be the best ROM for you.
Or you can flash any rom here with flash tool, but do not forget to change preloader. For zip files there is no problem with the preloader because zip files are using the existing one.
Custom recoveryes you can find in Clarliv post i tested there one and is for China ROM VIBE UI 2.0. What can i tell: it is working.
SP Flash Tool for Lenovo P780 you will find in my post Rooting Tutorial for KITKAT. DO NOT USE OTHER.
For modems you have my post How about some modems.

OTA updates are failing on my ROM , i guess they were disabled on purpose by the seller. Tried to repartition with http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/general/p780-repartition-storage-t2668744 but its not working.
Flashed back stock rom via FlashTools and i tried SLX ROM for CN version http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/slx-rom-lenovo-p780-t2722775 , but it always says that the PhoneStorage/SD card is damaged and you cant install any apps.
I have also tried latest official VIBEUI 2.0 (from here http://bbs.lenovo.com/vibeui-fabu/t542102/ in chinese ). It is actually pretty good and nice (only if thay used a stock app drawer and not the one like MIUI/iOS). But it leaves even less internal storage. And it does not have GAPPS and i was unsuccesfull to install these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 (it said insufficient memory to install, although there was 1GB free on internal memory, propably a small system partition ??). I tried pico and nano.
-Actually if i was able to repartition for max memory and install GAPPS this will be a good option.
As for the recoveries i can confirm CWM based from Carliv's post works with this 2014 version. I will update his thread later.
I will try next the Alice project ROM.
Also i have a idea to use g00dvin's ROM http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/6863-lenovo-p780-... for repartition and then flash official VIBEUI via recovery, if that will leave the partitions intact. And try different GAPPS if i will be able to install them
Modems will be last thing to mess with

MPIE M15 MTK6595 need advice

Hello,
i recently bought a smartphone from Ali.
It's a MPIE M15 with MTK6595 (CPU-z is agree). Here's the specs :
Android Version : 5.0.0
Baseband : MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V43, 2014/09/17 10:10
Kernel : 3.4.67 [email protected] #1
Build Number : A100-HYDY 20150627-155331
Custom Build Version : 1435391497
Hardware : mt6595
After test, it's already rooted, i can access to Android Recovery.
The problem is that the installed rom is a Chinese Android version.
i want to install the factory Android Lollipop, but i cant find any version for my phone.
CyanogenMod installation via recovery have a OTA error..
So with my specs, is that possible to run another rom, like the Official Android (5.1?) and how to do it?
Thanks for your answer
Update
I understand that i have to install a custom recovery, but now i have a new problem..
MTK Droid Tools says the hardware is fake in Kernel or Firmware rolleyes not corresponding to the phone..
How to format all the phone, i want the Android Official Firmware on it, how to do that please ?..
OK MTK Droid Tools recognize my phone now. I do the backup for a custom TWRP recovery. if anyone know a link the original image of android .zip, thank you to tell me..
i continue :cyclops:

Please write if you find the program Im interested in purchasing that phone, but don't want to learn chinese
By the way, how that phone looks like in real life? All options works normally?
Hello, after two days working on the phone, i'm almost there.
First, this phone is faking his own components.
It's sold for a MTK6595, in fact it's a MTK6572. Same for Android, it's KitKat, not Lollipop. Not sure about the RAM (maybe 2Go). 1 virus app (AVG). Chinese stuff installed. I bought it 85$ from Ali (i understand now^^). The Camera is sh**, really! (but photo is not a prob for me).
Im not an experimented dev, the phone seems to be block somewhere, it's very hard to launch a custom recovery. I extracted the Stock ROM with MTK Droid Tools.
Finally, I install a custom recovery after a day of search, the Carvil Touchscreen and make it stable for the mPie. Now i want to install a Custom Rom on it, after replace the boot.img from Stock to Port, i have to modify the kernel, i will see..
If i managed a custom rom to get worked, i will post a tuto, if someones are interested
i continue :cyclops:

BLUBOO Picasso 3G - Android 6.0 update?

Hello!
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to android development, but since BLUBOO pulled their Android 6.0 update for their 5.1 Picasso 3G phone, I was wondering if a port would be at all possible? I found many guides on the internet but I've bricked a few phones in the past and thought I would ask to see if anyone else has tried/achieved this at all.
I found a ROM that the Picasso 4G uses that is a 6.0 rom - Would this be okay to port or am I going to overwrite the bootloader or whatever I did to my last phone and have another brick to add to my collection, lol?

I know, this thread might be dead for a long time, but since I stumbled upon this thread in order to resurrect my good ol' Picasso, there might be people finding this interesting:
on 4pda, there can be found some custom roms for the Bluboo Picasso 3g. There is also a 6.0-Rom.

hello, I bring you a mini tutorial to recover this mobile. In the file is the tutorial in text format, both in English and Spanish.inside the zip is the rom stock with android 6 for this model, it is installed with sp flash tool.
added installation of twrp with android 6.0 (rom bravis), and custom rom 7.1.2 crDroid.
This custom rom is amazing and has many customization options and the system is rooted by default.

Huawei Matepad T8

Dear Friends
I have bought a Huawei Mediapad T8 and I am trying to find a custom ROM to flash it. Unfortunately there is nothing on Cyanogenmod site.
If anyone has any reference site where I can find ROM s for this model please share it with me.
Sincerely
Konstantinos
Mediapad T8 has android 10 - so it can be part of Project Treble since it is 8+ - it means, you can flash GSI (generic system image) of many of custom roms and no need for certain full rom.
But, I guess, you will need to unlock bootloader and got permissive kernel and probably need to remove encryption for user data before got bootable custom rom.

Dear Friend
Thank you very much for replying to my thread. I admit that it is the first time that I heard about GSI (Generic System Image). I am looking for a custom rom so I can use the Play Store that is now missing from most Huawei devices. Unlocking bootloader is not so hard , I can get the code from Huawei in 7 months from now. Dealing with the GSI is something that I can not manage to be honest. I will wait for a custom rom. Thanx again.

Actually there are more than 10 Custom ROMs available:

Thank you for the link. Which one is for Huawei Matepad T8? I can't find anything.

@coa00kt
Take note that any Android OS ( Stock ROM and/or Custom ROM ) you intend to install isn't device's model/brand dependant, but on device's CPU architecture. Almost all Android device's are powered by an ARM CPU.
Dear Friend
I am a noobie. Which ROM do you suggest for Mediatek MT8768 chipset (Octa-core 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.50 GHz Cortex A53)?

@coa00kt
Can't recommend any because I never used a Custom ROM: I have reasons for this.
Dear Friends
The main reason that I am looking a custom ROM is the advantage of using "Play Store". Otherwise Huawei Android 10 is just fine. Please help me find something that will work 100%. Otherwise I will stay with Huawei Android 10.
Thanx again

Dear friend,
In the meanwhile you can use GPStore alternatives like Aurora store or ApkPure or ApkMirror for apps that can not be found on Huawei's AppGallery.
On the other hand, you can install about 8 to 10 apps from Huawei phone/tablet (before US sticky fingers) in the form of backup and restore them to your tablet. Tutorial like this is simmilar for all phones. Also found some backup on GDrive for HiSuite or usb restore.

Hello Friend
I have installed APKPure , it is very usefull. About 80% percent of the applications are running fine. Unfortunately about 20% require the Google Play Services. I will stick to this solution until Huawei provides me the Bootloader Code (After 12 Months) and a custom rom is created .

Hi
You can just flash GApps pico. It installs Play Store and Google Service.
Do you know if Google apps pico require an unlocked bootloader? What is the process? Do I have to install custom recovery?
Hello.
Please, can someone extract the original apk from the notes and post here? I accidentally deleted mine and now I can't find it. Thanks.
Hi there, i managed to install a google account and a working playstore via this youtube tutorial, and google services is working outside of an irritating notification which you can turn off.

The only thing is i don't know if i can upgrade firmware with out losing google apps again i'm on firmware 10.0.1
How to unlock the bootloader?

i wouldnt recommend installing a custom rom that is not specifically for your device, especially if you are a noobie. the devices appart from the SOC have many components that require specific drivers. in any case, you have to be extra carefull in following the instructions otherwise ou ll end up with a brick. your best bet is to find a recovery (again for your device) and flash open gapps.

But huawei doesn't provide bootloader unlock codes anymore
Is it possible to root Matepad T8 ?
I think you no longer need Custom ROM to use GApps into this device. I have bought this device few days ago and found a way to run GApps. Just open Huawei AppGallery and look for "GSpace", it will solve GApps issue.
