RemixOS nuked my HDD! - Remix OS for PC

Dear RemixOS users,
As the title says, I had just installed RemixOS, and opened my File Manager, and to my bewilderment, I did NOT have my HDD partitions, contrary to online claims that HDD partitions automatically mount. StickMount does nothing either.
Oddly, I saw an unknown USB drive under Storage and USB in Settings.
I thought, "That's my internal HDD over there!".
The drive was formatted as " Unknown".
I clicked it, which made me choose "Portable Storage", followed by "Next".
Big mistake.
Began (and stopped for 3-8 sec) at 20% and I saw a toast saying "Error n, command not supported", where n is some number 1<n<10 and the quoting is not literal.
I carried on browsing, and the machine suddenly froze. Gave no heed and rebooted.
The machine cried about a " No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key".
I am dead. The machine contains 7 voice call recordings of critical importance.
The question is: What kind of format happened? A destructive format or a quick (non-destructive) one?
Is data/partition layout recovery possible?
I have a hybrid MBR.

SD Card - unrecognized filesystem or blank

So I rooted and flashed XtrSense, and thought it would be great if I had a large micro SD card. So I picked up a 32gb card off ebay. Now my first problem is I'm not sure if its a real 32gb or just a 8gb that someone hacked to make it show as 32gb, but thats beside the point for right now.
I've always had a problem when I plug my phone into my computer over usb, where if I move the cable just one bit, it disconnects then reconnects quickly then says that the device would preform faster in a USB 2 slot (all of mine are USB 2).
Unfortunately this happened when I was transferring music and when I unplugged from the computer it said my SD card had errors. I used the prompt to format it, and my card worked fine for a while.
Well that same scenario happened again last week and for some reason I decided to format it using Amon recovery. Now I'm afraid my SD card is corrupt because when I start my phone it says the card is blank or has an unrecognized filesystem. Whenever I try the format option the phone gives, it does nothing. Any ideas?
I can't help you with the formatting issue (try formatting FAT32 through windows?), but I have had the USB intermittent connection problem. Easily solved by using a standard usb cable or charger (not the modified one provided by HTC) and using a small stylus to bend the shorter of the two long sides of the plug slightly outward.
Thanks for the tip on the cord! I'll try that as soon as I find my cord.
And I can't format the card in windows because windows doesn't recognize that anything has been plugged in
And just for clarification you mean the bottom on this picture?

Can you format it through a card reader? Also, can't you format it through the settings | storage settings menu?
Yes, the bottom where you have the carats. there's usually a seam right in the middle that is easily bent. don't bend too hard or far. just a fraction of a centimeter will tighten up the connection

Going through settings and selecting format does nothing. I click the button and it still says its a blank or unsupported filesystem

if the phone reformatted it then it should be blank.
now mount it to the computer and put what you want on it
You did it wrong in amon_ra. Reformat in amon but this time set first two settings to zero and the remainder fat32. Hope this helps.

So I followed your response and wiped EXT on sd then partitioned it with both settings=0 but I still get the same error message: "sd blank or unsupported filesystem"
EDIT: So I tried to do it in command prompt and it said unrecognized disk label. So i tried to change it but whatever I type it says invalid token
Edit 2: And by command prompt I mean IO installed android adb and foolowed a guide online to try and format my SD card that way
You may try this step by step guide that helped me before: recover data from corrupted SD card
hope this helps.

Windows not reading HDD on Archos 70

I have an Archos 70 IT with a 1Tb disk upgrade. I've previously managed to connect it to my PC via USB and transfer a load of music files. Now I am able to make the USB connection (it shows up as a drive in Explorer), but Windows doesn't recognise the format of the disk - a message pops up saying "you need to format the disk in drive I: before you can use it". The disk can be accessed fine from within the Archos.
I've tried rebooting but got the same thing.
Can anyone suggest anything?

I got same issue as you and found the solution as beneath process:
(1) double check your Hard Disk whether is already connected by partition software(such as "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" )?
(2)try to change letter in "partition" in case your hd did not have "partition letter"
Afterward your PC can recognize the format of disk
for your reference

Thanks for your recommendation. I installed MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition but it simply listed the Archos as a "bad disk", and didn't give me any option to assign a drive letter, or in fact to do anything else with it.
Does anyone else have any ideas??
I also seem to have a problem writing to the HDD from within the Archos O/S. When I use ED File Explorer to copy a file from my LAN to a Downloads folder on the HDD I get a "copy failed" error. I get the same error if I attempt to copy a music file from one location to another in the Music folder.
What partitiontype do you have?

How would I find out?
In Windows Explorer, select the drive and then rightclick Properties.
You should see FileSystem.
If it's NTFS, Android only has a Readonly driver.

The problem is that Windows does not recognise the format of the partition - it asks me whether I want to format it when I select it.
you can change the type in the archos.
go in the recoverymenu -> format system -> set storage filesystem and switch it to vfat.
Now windows can read the filefsystem and ur able to copy files ;-)

[Q] SD Card Problems

Hi all.
Here's the situation:
I have a 32 gb Sandisk (unsure of the class) sd card I've used with 2 different phones for at least over a year now. I took the card out of my phone to connect it through my laptops built in card reader for the purpose of transferring large files (card reader speeds are much faster than usb mounting through the phone for me). When I put it in the computer Windows wouldn't recognize it. Now it won't mount in my phone at all, and it won't work correctly on my PC. When I connect it to my computer it says the card needs to be formatted before use, but then when I go to format it, it shows up on the Windows formatting screen as only having a 30.6 mb capacity and I get the message "Windows was unable to complete the format" whenever I try to format it, no matter the settings.
So my question is, how do I get the darn thing to work again? I think something must have happened between shutting my phone down to remove it and putting it in my computer. I just don't know what. Anyone else ever experience this? (I've already given up on recovering all of my files, but if it's possible to save them that would be amazing )
Things I've tried:
formatting via Windows
formatting via android
formatting /external_sd via Clockworkmod recovery
a couple different data recovery/partitioning programs (Partition Wizard and PhotoRec/TestDisk
also using "chkdsk" in windows command prompt returns saying that the disk is in the "RAW" format.
Additional info:
Phone: Motorola Droid RAZR HD (XT926) (Verizon)
ROM: XenonHD 11.01 (Android version 4.2.2, AOSP based)
Sorry if this is more lengthy than necessary, just trying to be thorough and cover all the bases!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Speed up USB Disk Mount

I posted this on the Nexus7 pages, but I wonder if it might be better in a general android page .
I have a nexus 7 that i'm utilising in a car build.
It's running CM10.1 which I believe is based on 4.2.2, and Timurs custom Kernel.
I have a 175gb SSD dive, hooked up to a USB hub and OTG cable.
The SSD is recognised and mounts correctly on the Nexus via the kernel.
I'm looking to speed up the mount process.
When I connect the SSD, the led activity light on the SSD will start to blink rapidly, any media on the drive is inaccessible until the drive activity has ceased.
This process takes around 30 seconds or more.
The drive is formatted using exFat, with a single partition.
I've placed a number of .nomedia files inside the USBDISK folder, SDCARD folder, and in the root of the USB drive itself, but still mounting takes time.
Is there a way to speed up the mounting process.
Maybe moving the media folders inside a single folder, or some sort of file (like .nomedia) inside the folder structure to tell Android to not perform a file check and just mount it regardless.
Maybe a cache system.
The kernel is configured to have the drive in read only mode, so unless I manually add any files, then I have no need to scan for any file changes.
The drive could be in the car for months before I add any new media to it.
I noticed last night, when I connect the HDD to my Windows 7 PC, no such disk activity takes place.
The drive is mounted, and ready to access within seconds.
Thinking that the drive activity could be folder related, I created a new folder in the root named .files, and then moved all my data in to it.
However, the tablet is still performing some sort of laborious disk activity when the drive is connected.
This now has me thinking...
When a disk is mounted in Android, is it a real mount of a virtual one.
If it's a virtual one, then I guess the system needs to build the directory listing and populate this in a virtual folder ??
I guess no one else has experienced this, or I posted in the wrong forum, but i think i figured it out.
Just incase someone else has the same problem in the future, and in the vain hope that they stumble across this thread, I think it's only fair that I post my findings.
My SSD drive is formatted exFat for compatibilty between my PC, Tablet and S7 phone which is on Marshmallow.
I have 2 hard drives, I have a 2.5" SSD and a standard 2.5" Sata drive.
So something to experiment with.

Formatting the standard hard drive as NTFS and then copying a small number of my files on to it, i noticed that the mount time was instant, with hardly any drive activity.
All files are accessable.
It makes little sense, considering a standard mechanical drive is supposedly slower than SSD.
I then formatted it exFat, and copied roughly the same number of files, but now the mount time was about 5 seconds, with the drive light activity issue.
I reformatted my SSD as NTFS, copied my files back on to it, and the mount time is still almost instantaneous.
So it looks like whatever is causing the extended mount time is asscociated with exFat.
I've no idea why, so if anyone can explain, i'll be happy to learn.
somehow exfat formatted disk is checked for errors on android every time it mounts.

Corrupted Kingston 16GB microSD HC UHS3 Card (SDCAC)

Hello friends and happy New Year ,
I have problem and I need some assistance, if it is possible (of course ).
I have bought an Kingston UHS 3 Micro SD Card and mounted it as a Internal storage device on my Nokia 5 (Android 7.1.2) unrooted phone. The thing is as I downloaded a cache file from the Google play store, my phone froze so i turned it off, and after turning it on again, it said that my card is corrupted, and that I should try formatting it, which is, you guessed it - not possible. I got a nice message from android which goes something like this : "common 7 volume partition disk 179,64 public failed with null". So I took my card reader, placed it in my PC USB port and nothing happened. My PC doesn't recognize anything, so i went to Disk Managment, and i can see it there, but it doesn't have a "Volume Letter", so I tried giving it one, without success. DISKPART doesn't work, Mini Tool Partition Wizard just freezes, EaseUS also. To be honest, I don't care for files on my card, because it didn't had any , I just want to make it work. So if anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated.
P.S. I think that the card is now in "read - only" mode.
Thank you.
