No calendar notifications - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I have an LG G6 but I also had this problem on my Xperia Z3 compact.
Basically I don't get any calendar notifications. This worked initially on my z3 compact, after a while it stopped and I put the problem down to damage to the phone, it was pretty banged up.
With my G6 I am still seeing the same thing which leads me to believe it's a software problem, maybe doze related?
I've turned off optimizations for calendar and anything else related I could find, to no avail.
It's really frustrating for me, I need these reminders.
I installed Google Calendar and straight away I got a reminder notification from Google calendar and stock G6 calendar app. So it seems like the calendar service isn't waking when it should?
My G6 is on Android 7 with 1st July security patch.
Any help would be appreciated!

As I understand, the problem occurs with some third-party calendar-app, but with google Calendar everything works fine?
Make sure that your settings (settings => notifications) do not block notifications from your calendar app.

No, the problem is my stock g6 calendar app does not show notifications. I checked all the settings and notifications are enabled. It's also exempt from 'battery optimization' aka doze.
After I installed Google Calendar the notifications from the stock app worked for about a week, and then stopp again.

I get multiple reminders as well, and i don't know how to change it.. extremely annoying!
I don't have a clue how to go about fixing it either.
Did anyone find a fix for this?
I use all day events (like birthdays or anniversary) and that notification will not go away it keeps coming back each time the notification is cleared and I can't figure out the setting that makes it stop (other than deleting the event?)

same problem for me
Same here, had that problem on 1.6 and it hasn't gotten any better using 2.1
Drives me nuts.
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
Same here, plus the Sony Ericsson Calendar app sucks.
Why can't we have the default Google one? It's much better!
For viewing and adding events you should try TouchCalendar, it provides a great overview. Unfortunately editing and viewing details of events doesn't work on Mini Pros.

DO anyone of you guys know if Jorte update directly from google or from the SE calendar and will there be any problems if you remove the installed calendar.

This problem is solved in the new vision 0.9.11 But I get double notifications is there a way to solve this?

This thread explains how to remove the stock calendar, which would almost definitely solve your double notifications dilemma.. maybe a bit extreme though!

If you remove default calendar Jorte won´t be able to sync with Google.
I've been using my mini pro for a few weeks now and I too have noticed the weird behaviour with the calendar reminders (i am using Jorte too).
What's the correct procedure for dismissing a reminder? I don't really know if i've just been snoozing them.
I pull down the notification bar and tap on the reminder there and it opens the event in the standard calendar app; does this actually dismiss the reminder?

Anyone else's Google calendar events were reset to yesterday's state?

I was using my phone 30minutes ago and all of a sudden a my calendar events disappeared from my calendar app. I checked another app and it was removed as well. So I re added the calendar and noticed all the events were from yesterday's state. I made adjustments and new events for today yesterday and now those are gone.
I checked my tablet and the vents were changed as well so it's a global Google thing.
Anyone else's Google calendar acting funky?

No notifications from Calendar

Hi!
I use Calendar with DAVdroid (sysnces events with nextcloud), but I noted that there are missing notifications on my Mate 10 Pro.
Strange thing is that sometimes notification appears, but that's random and very rare.
I tried to look into Settings -> Battery -> Launch, but there's no Calendar application to manage.
As alternative, I tried to install several calendars from Play store, but for only Today Calendar gives me a notification (but I don't like the visual).
Anyone else with similar problem?
Did you look at notifications parameters - application - notifications ?
There is no "notifications parameters", but yes, I went to Settings - > Apps & notifications - > Notifications management - > Calendar and there all is allowed.
As I already wrote, strange thing is that sometimes notification appears, but that's random and very rare.

Is the battery settings switched on to "power saving mode" ?
No.
Neither "Power sawing mode" nor "Ultra power sawing mode".
Watch comment on DAVdroid app and it appears some people have sync problem...
Ask to dev maybe...
The problem is not in DAVdroid, as it does his syncing well (I see that because new or changed entries are immediately on my nextcloud web).
Notifications come from Calendar application (in rare cases when they appear), and to be sure, I just created some test event in Phone account (not synced to anything), same result.

Few questions/checks, if you can:
1) What is your sw version of mobile phone?
2) Exact version of your Calendar app (Settings -> Apps & notifications -> Apps -> Calendar and there it states that mine is 8.0.0.300)?
3) Do you use some sync with cloud (CardDAV, Google, etc.)?
Thanks in advance

Hello,
Sw version is 127-C432 if it what you mean by sw version
Mine is 8.0.0.300 too
I m using Google sync only
Almost everything like mine.
I guess next step would be reinstall the Calendar app, but as it's system app I probably can't do it without root.
Phone reset is also not an option as I already installed lot of stuff which I don't want to reinstall again.
I guess I should wait until next sw release and temporary stuck with DigiCal, which works good for now.

Yes, probably with root only...
If you don't want to do a factory reset, you have to wait a new sw release for sure..
Did you try to wipe cache the phone or calendar app?
Just tried to clean cache of Calendar, first notification appeared, but second time still nothing.
Still, I think this is a good idea, later I'll try to clear data for Calendar and wrote if this will produce any progress.

Didn't help, clearing app data only removed settings for Calendar.
Well, I'm getting used to DigiCal+, for now it works as alternative.

Anyway DigiCal+ seems to be a good calendar !
Yep, it is
Only sad thing is that my previous phone (LG G5) has working and good calendar out of box, almost the same as DigiCal+, but I'll live with that

Lightflow Calendar events not triggering properly

Hi there - have used LightFlow successfully for years, but calendar events no longer trigger it reliably since I upgraded to Android 10 (running Pixel 2 w/Android 10, LightFlow Pro paid version)
Main problem areas are repeating sound and both initial and repeating vibration. I get the correct sound and the LED triggers the correct color for the initial alarm, but the vibration doesn't trigger. The repeating sound either comes on at incorrect intervals, or often doesn't come on at all. The repeating vibration rarely triggers at all. This happens with the native Android Calendar app, with the VCOrganizer Calendar app, and the DejaOffice Calendar app. I've tried deleting the cache & storage, then uninstalling LightFlow and reinstalling it. No joy. I've googled the subject. I've emailed the developer twice, no response.
Any tips? Anypne (perhaps) using DejaOffice with LightFlow and have it working?
TIA - R.

Question GMAIL

Does anyone else have an issue with Gmail notifications? Most of the time I receive no notifications about new email until I unlock the phone. Even then they do not always come in quickly. When I open the Gmail app they do come in.
Yes, they will "eventually" come in on their own but way later than they should. I have done every battery/data optimization/exception I can think of and find. This should NOT be happening in 2021! This is not a OnePlus phone and even then my 8T is not this bad. Also, the notification LED does not activate for Gmail while it does for Messages and WhatsApp. I have gone through every possible notification setting on the phone as well as for the Gmail app itself and made sure that using the LED was selected on them all. I hate that Gmail is installed as a system app! WHY???
Another interesting things is that Gmail is NOT listed as the default app. It is not even there as a selection. Messages is installed as a system app and it is listed as the default. WHY?
I am liking the phone, but not receiving notifications for such an essential feature as email is NOT GOOD!
The phone is causing Gmail to go into deep sleep when the screen is locked unnecessarily.
I may have found the solution. To start I went into Settings > accounts just to double check that the toggle for "Automatically sync app data" was turned on and it was. While in the same screen I tapped on my email account and then tapped on "Account sync", Here you can do a manual sync of all the various apps associated with your Google account. SO I tapped on the 3 dots in the top right and tapped on "Sync now" and the only thing that synced immediately was Contacts and maybe one other (can't remember which one. No matter how many times I would retry to do a manual sync the same thing would happen.
So I closed all of this out and went directly into the Gmail app > settings and chose my email account and scrolled down to "Sync Gmail" under the "Data usage" section and unchecked this setting. I rebooted the phone, went back into Gmail > settings my email and re-checked the "Sync Gmail" selection, rebooted again and went back into Settings > accounts > my email account > account sync and all the various apps listed in this section had now synced properly. I could tell by the time stamp for each one. I also did a manual sync again and everything in the list synced up within about 10 seconds! I was happy. I locked my phone, set it down, and within a minute or two I received several emails and the notification chime went off. I'm still not sure if the notification LED lit up or not but I think it did. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
Sometimes it isn't what is selected but the order in which you select things so as not to cause a conflict.
This is one area of Android that I think needs improvement (Samsung is the worst for this) that there are too many settings that seem redundant, counter intuitive, and conflict with one another.
Well, after writing all the previous entries I am still having the same issues with Gmail. On my OnePlus 8T every morning shortly after logging in my emails would come in without any prompting on my part. With my Xperia 1 iii I received NOTHING until I actually opened the Gmail app itself and sure enough there were about 5 emails that popped up! Something is very wrong here. I am not looking forward to a factory reset but I may have no choice. I will say this: If after a factory reset Gmail is still unresponsive I will definitely be sending this thing back!
Can confirm that there is something wrong with gmail. Just gmail. Ive tried 3rd party email apps and they work.
Totally understandable that you would prefer gmail over others. I too would actually prefer my gmail to work. I hope this is fixed in a firmware update.

Exactly! I decided to NOT do a factory reset because I feel that it would not help. Instead I just disabled Gmail and installed Bluemail. It has more settings than I care to mess with but at least all my email notifications arrive properly! I am glad that I am not the only one this is happening to. Is there some way to inform Sony directly that they have a problem? I liked it better when Gmail was a Play Store install! I DO NOT like it when ANY apps are installed as a service!
I chatted with Sony Tech support. They went through all the usual settings that I already tried several times. They escalated it so we will see what happens. One thing I have noticed, which may be relevant or not, is that with Blue Mail installed when I do get an email both Gmail and Blue Mail give a notification????
To me it sounds like you just need to whitelist the app in your battery saving settings.

Please, while I can appreciate the suggestion, do you think I did not already go through every possible setting and permutation in an attempt to resolve this issue? I am a retired IT Systems Engineer and I have used cell phones for so long it's not even funny. Not to mention there are others experiencing the exact same thing! However, I was forced to do a factory reset this morning so "maybe" things will start to work properly.
I have exact Gmail notification issue when I got my X1iii but the issue resolved after I upgraded to 61.0.A.11.92 this morning. After switched off Gmail sync off and on and turn on the notification on individual labels, the notification was back.
It might be the previous firmware used a bad GMSCore. My device is a XQ-BC62. BTW the install step 3 did take some time but my phone didn't stuck at that step and it went through.
I have different problem with gmail notifications. For some reason notifications are always coming when in the evening I plug in my phone for charging. After a moment gmail notifications are coming. And this happens all the time.
??? Sony?
Guys please treat everyone with respect.
We are here to help each other and exchange our experience. Not to offend each other.
Thank you.
I have had a few days now with the last update = .92 and so far it appears as if my Gmail notifications are coming in exactly as they should when the phone is locked. For sure much better than before the update. So whatever Sony did in this update (besides the security update) is working for me. The LED is also lighting up properly for Gmail! Good job Sony!
Gmail still does not sync automatically for me on the .92 update. Factory reset and it works for a bit but once after a while it stops. No amount of uninstalling GMS updates or clearing its data will get it working again, so I have no idea what happened.

Have to ask...you did give Gmail unlimited data? Also, you did set Gmail to "excepted" in battery settings?
Even the most experienced sometimes miss things.

Just to be sure, I went through and double checked that Gmail, Google Play Services, and Google Services Framework all had:
* Battery/Power-saving Feature: Excepted
* Unrestricted data: Enabled
Still didn't resolve my sync issues
Did you try this: settings > accounts > tap your email google account > account sync > has everything synced fairly recently? Any of them appear to be stuck, not spinning? Top right 3 dots sync now, does everything finish syncing?
Just adding that I noticed this problem after the .92 update. I'm not sure if its there before. So the .92 didn't solve the issue on my end, glad it solved yours.

I haven't had issues with gmail but I have had the kind of issues described in OP with other phone models and similar apps and the cause was a bit too eager battery optimization settings so I honestly thought it was the cause here too.
If it was not, then it is a shame I couldn't help.
But as a response to your comment: No. I don't think people here are idiots. I just think you are one.

You make it sound like you think people are idiots because as already mentioned in the FIRST POST, he already excepted his apps from battery optimization. If you still ask people if they have done so, you obviously think we are idiots, since you ask a question that has already been answered. Grow up please.
Edit: Here let me quote it for you:
I have done every battery/data optimization/exception I can think of and find.

Testing out a potential fix which seems to be working for now.
I found out that my phone backup isn't working either. Manually pressing the button, the backup keeps telling it failed and asks me to try again later. Searching online, there are some that suggest to remove the screen lock to see if backup starts working again.
After I removed my screen lock, I cleared cache/storage of Google Play Services, Google Services Framework and Gmail. Then I rebooted my phone and left it a while to let it fully boot. I can now backup my phone, and I am getting my Gmail notifications. Now I am observing to see if this is permanent..
If the fix is permanent, at least on my end, it seems that Sony's build of android has buggy encryption. This was an issue with other brands too.
Update on my problem. Firstly, after trying the above, I noticed a few days later that in general I wasn't getting notifications from anything. I concluded that I messed up Google Services too much and therefore factory reset my phone.
After that and readding my google account, My notifications was fixed, except Gmail still wasn't getting notifications, but phone backup started working. I was about to give up and use another email app, when today the September security update arrived in 61.0.A.14.3 update. Being desperate to try anything I updated without hesitation.
This seems to fix the problem and I am getting my gmail notifications.
Not getting my hopes up too much and just continue monitoring but I hope this the end of my google problems.
