Terrible video quality - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

I am running MIUI 8.2.10 on my RN4 SD. Locked (waiting for that stupid minimum-72-hour-period to end).
Using the default camera app. Slow motion videos in slightly low lighting conditions have huge amount of noise. Normal videos don't have. I have seen several videos on youtube recorded on RN4 in slow motion, they all seem noise-less. But why am I getting that huge amount of noise in Slo-Mo videos?
Check this video-- low light, no noise:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12eKhcyoaas
And here's mine:
https://youtu.be/zGIciaiGY7I
Can someone confirm whether the slo-mo videos are actually this terrible in low light or is it only me? Even my Moto G2 records sharp noiseless slo-mo videos in low light!

At least in my phone the video quality (normal or slow motion) is terrible with miui. But look really really good with custom rom

[Q] Problem with camera when recording video

Well, as the thread says, I have problem with recording video like i dont have autofocus... All blured check video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDxq7wXLAfE&feature=youtu.be
decrease the volume because it is too loud in video
No one has this problem?
Is this with all vids o is that the only one you have because the the huge flame in the foreground wont help the focus much and at night did yiu have it in night mode.Check out this link.I know that there is problems between 720p and 1080p with stability from autofocus and noise distortion.maybe you can pick something up here.In this link they recomend 720p for low light recording due to noise distortion and the advantages of pixel binning.

Thanks, I'll try when next time record something, but it's very stupid when you have feature like recording in 1080p and then they say to you, that you could only use 720p for better fps and image...

yeah i know.Ive tried 1080 and above and also noticed that the auto focus makes it shakey and a bit jumpy too.
Well, I think that maybe ICS will fix this up, and we will all enjoy in FullHD...
Just question what camera fw have you? I have SCEF02 TBEC28
The auto-focus on the S2 is really poor. I had the S i9000 beforehand and it was perfect.. the auto-focus was very subtle and only changed focus when the scene was dramatically different.
Have you tried lgCamcorder? It seems to turn off the auto-focus while recording quite successfully... wish someone could find out how it does that, and port the change to the standard Samsung camera.apk!
Yea... My friend has i9000, and that is why i bought S2, cause i thought it will be better on all sections... Haven't tried lgcamcorder, but i'll try...

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the LG G6 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I did a few sample videos with the different quality settings and WOAH!!! Especially the videos at 60fps with adequate light from a lamp. When a lot of light it's even smoother when I figured it could not be smoother. Nothing like it. Heck, video of hands looks better than real life and you could see every piece of detail in the skin easily. But I am a photographer so am good with taking photos and have very still hands, so others experience might be a bit different from mine.
Looked great in a well-lit environment as stated above. Had a lot of noise in a darker environment, but not so much as to render it unusable. Someone that does a better job of holding the camera steady and framing the video might have a better result though.
Anyone tried the audio/video quality in loud environments such as discos, festivals , concerts ...?
Very interesting in this feature .
Thanks in advance

Here is a link to a song I recorded at a Ghost/Iron Maiden song. I forgot to put it on concert mode and left it on normal . Here is a link to a video I recorded later in the show as well, still processing so I don't think YouTube will have it in HAD for a while .

Here is the night video, I think I remembered to switch to 4k.
Very poor audio quality

good video
Is it just me or is the video quality really bad? Full HD videos are not sharp/crisp at all and there's a slight painted/blurry look to frames, even in moderately good sunny conditions.
This is more apparent with the wide angle lens but the normal lens has this too. I tried shooting with the GCam app and the normal lens video is worse than the stock app. Video Stabilisation is on. 4k videos are pretty sharp but Full HD is my preferred choice.
Anyone know any settings that could be changed to fix this?
Ok guys, this is my try. First and last part of video is recorded with LG G6, 1080p 60fps on DJI Osmo Mobile. It's not bad at all. Sharpness and crispness is better on 1080p 30fps but I needed slowmo. In manual mode you have much more control but it's OK even in auto mode. What do You think?

Fun Tip - Add motion blur to the parts where you increased the footage speed to sync up with the music. Will literally make it look 2x better.

Thanks for the tip Gagan. This is my first video in Premiere, after only 30min of tutorials. I'll try that in my next video. Cheers.
Reading posts i must ask, am i the only one who thinks that the quality of video taken with lg g6 camera is terrible and unacceptable, 1080p looks like upscale from 480p and is very overprocessed? i wrote about it to lg and they replied that everything is fine, can't believe it! 1080p video from my old lg g3 was great, g6 sucks more then anything that has ever suck before. is there any way to change it and turn current '1080p' on g6 into real 1080p?

Is there someone that can show me the difference between the gcam and the stock video with the essential phone? I am interested in one and I am debating on whether or not I should get one
The video quality is good but not great compared to mainstream phones. Stabilization is terrible and not many camera or video features to play with. The only distinctive feature this phone have over all the other phone is the optional 360° degree camera which is super fun and it gets a lot of praises from my friends and family.
Stabilization isn't as bad as I expected. Builtin google edit stabilization is a necessity and much appreciated.

Guys, could you please comment on audio quality on videos made with this device. On few video reviews people mentioned that sound is kind of choppy or glitchy. Looks like noise reduction isn't utilized, when Mi A1 shoots video. As workaround they mention that it can be solved by shooting video by a 3rd party app (FV-5).
I'm thinking to buy this device, but this bug is holding me from it.

Yes it is
Take a look here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8qgfwQwRbI
Then see this example too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-ncyEPZIds
For me, video seems way more pixelated than it should be when zooming, even in 4K. 4x zoom should be 1080p and it doesn't look like it is, and I can't see an option to use the zoom lens either. And 4K isn't selected by default.
Considering the lack of EIS and OIS it's not good, but not really bad. Avoid shooting videos in low light - they will be awful and they will have a lot of frames dropped.
Without any kind of EIS or OIS, MiA1 is not ideal for video recording.

I tried using the GCam HDR+ with its EIS and to be honest.. I have to really hold the phone as steady as possible and also in walking slowly, the end result is a bit much better than using the camera app by xiaomi..
the quality overall improved a lot, but for usable footage I guess a dedicated gimbal is needed
Pixelation is algo a problem for me. I think that the video is a little bit dark too.
Even using the Google Camera, it's something better but it's not good for me. At least the EIS helps to stabilize the video but the quality is far from good.

Man, I think the same thing. It's very weird to see the video so pixelated even using Google Camera. Sometimes it really looks like a low resolution video upscaled to a more resolution.

Xiaomi Mi9T/Redmi K20 Photo & Video Thread

Hello,
First of all, we glad that xiaomi produced this completed package phone with budget price.
Lets share our photos and videos experiences using this lovely device.
Currently the downside that I found in video is lack shooting 24fps video and Filmic Pro wont open.
Feel free to share your photos guys
The phone is capable of taking great pictures with the Stock Camera if you have good light conditions like you see in my sample shots. They were taken with the main camera and just point and shoot. No fiddling around in the pro menu. However in low light I would recommend using the Google Camera port. The results are night and day compared to the stock camera and also selfies come out better with the Google camera.

maybe it's some little hand movement while taking the shot, you should try to take a picture with the phone fixed so you see the real result.

I'm not a huge photographer. I really need the camera only for point and shoot scenarios and for that the cameras in this phone are more than enough. And for low light and selfies I just use Gcam.

That's actually impressive that a phone can capture that much details!! I wonder how it looks with Gcam.
GCam result look better for me, even the Night Mode. Stock cam sometimes abit blur/miss focus, dunno why... but with GCam, the contras is more stunning than the stock.
Pro mode stock app can take longer shutter speed than Moment Pro Camera app that i have.
anyone tries the video? Moment Pro Camera app video still cannot shoot 24fps, Filmic Pro cannot open the app.
Any idea why the phone doesn't support 4k60 Video? Because it can take 1080p240 Video which uses the same bandwidth .
What version and settings of Gcam are you guys using?

The IMX582 doesn't take 4K60 but only 30 frames. If you go full HD then 60 fps is ok. It is the snapdragon 730 that can't and it's the only difference with the pro version (snap 855)
Here are from my "Redmi K20"

FilmicPro team still working on issue for Mi9T, just got invitation beta tester, they say will update it soon.
Do you guys have autofocus issues while recording videos? Mine aren't smooth at all, few sporadic lags and a lot of "bounce" effect caused by the lense that fails to focus.

yes, autofocus was or maybe still is broken, especially in 60fps mode - not sure how it is now on stable roms, as am using betas.
4K video are nowhere at 30 fps, more around 20fps.
I can see that EIS is working at 4K res on 9.8.8 beta
Honestly my Pocophone is much better in video recording than Mi9T.
Still photo wise - I have made many nice shots with pocophone in past, not a single one as nice with Mi9T so far...
pro mode, 32seg expó. beautiful night
Night mode stock cam.
