i have never managed to use encryption and being able to update on this phone. i need encryption so i have to reinstall everything from scratch everytime i want to tupdate
some people says you can use encrytion with LOS but i ve not seen any difference !
that sucks because it s a really good phone but this is making it a pain in the ass for those who needs encryption...

If you enable encryption then sometimes you may face issue in flashing the roms as well.

yes, you do need to unlock the bootloader and you will lose your data during the process
this is for those who got the bootloader unlock already
if you're rooted use titanium backup and restore your data afterwards
-=-=-
as an alternative you can wait for the OTA to arrive on your phone , it will be updated and your data will be preserved

Technically yes, but it's really easy to avoid that. There's an app that lets you unlock the bootloader without using data and to install the factory image without losing data you just edit the install script and remove one little switch ("-w") from the last command.
It's not recommended - but it's easy to do.
How would I go about flashing this if I have everything stock except the kernel?

Sorry cant answer to that special recovery, but i did

I tried flashing with the included batch script with the removed "-w" to keep my user data. It did not work. After flashing it was stuck in a boot loop. I had to flash again with the "w" to get my tablet running again.

Easiest is to use either mskip toolkit n you can choose to keep your data. Copy the whole zip into the put your google image folder n choose flash google image from the menu. Whole process just takes about a minute

Nougat could introduce more issues (e.g. Xposed doesn't work with Nougat as of today... Magisk & SuperSU... who knows?) but in theory steps should be the same...
More: this is unknown to most (and I don't have a clear explanation for it... only some hypothesis...) but even TWRP could have issues...
On another phone I've found (only one time to be honest... ) that an updated firmware required an updated TWRP to have it working (older one simply doesn't booted anymore even if reflashed...)

I don't like OTAs at all... I'll prefer going with flashing full images by fastboot (if stock images) or TWRP (if custom ROMs or zip flashable version of stock images...).
They are safer and cleaner than OTAs...

Are you able to restore all the changes you made to /system, to successfully install the next OTA-update?
Or you just reflash the whole stock image before the next ota?

Probably it could be possible to restore all as stock from my backups, but I will surely update (when I'll decide to...) using fastload or TWRP (depending of image formats...) as you said...
I recently rooted my device using this tutorial:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/how-to/guide-root-using-magisk-stock-recovery-t3718203
The guy who posted it says that since we keep the stock recovery we can safely install OTA updates without any problems but he doesn't mention how. Is there a way to install OTA without getting bootlooped or bricked and of course without wiping everything? Also, Flashfire doesn't work on my phone (it kicks me out after loading). Besides I've heard that it can really mess up your device. Just please help out here because I really want to keep my phone updated without losing my data.
Thx in advance

There is a version of TWRP which is compatible with encryption/decryption which you can try.
Not as good as other Xiaomi Phones
When you compare other Xiaomi Phones like Redmi Note 5, 6 or 6 Plus, it doesn't stand tall. People who use it are not that quite happy with the phone. My friend has one and he felt like he could have gone for Note 6 Plus.

The bug is in Pie. If you set a pin/password for encryption, it will ask for a pattern and vice versa. Simply do not set a pin/password/pattern.
Hello guy, I was trying to add new custom ROM of lineageos 15.1 in my phone. So I flashed TWRP and successfully installed custom rom lineageos 15.1 with root addon on my phone.
It was working very well, but due to lots of apps, it is getting slower. So I downloaded titanium backup pro (Cracked One) to remove the pre-installed apps of Google.
When I just installed the titanium backup pro app, it restarts my phone, and my phone stopped working (stuck at TWRP recovery screen). So I thought to reinstall the lineageos 15.1. But this time whenever I try to install the file, it sends me back to the starting point of TWRP recovery mode.
So I got pissed off and opened the SP FLASH tool to remove TWRP, but I don't have any idea how to remove it, so I go to the format section of sp flash tool and format the phone.
Now I tried to power on my device, but it wasn't showing a logo of TWRP or Lenovo it was just a black screen. So I figure out by googling that my phone is hard bricked so I tried to flash the Lenovo a7000 framework with SP Flash Tool, but nothing worked out.
So here I am asking for help in XDA Developers Forum. Please help me out I will not get any other phone till my JEE Advanced Exam
