Hello guys, i am new to LG, so i saw this:
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
i hope lg v30 will have an unlockable bootloader but..
i was wondering, what is different from Google Nexus or Pixel to LG in factor of unlocking bootloader and getting root Magisk, and pass Safetynet?
I saw that for LG G6 getting root is really hard or impossible for USA version.
So i hope some experts will answer all my and LG community doubts
The TMobile version will most likely be bootloader unlocked unless LG decided to lock it down just like Samsung did
Most TMobile phones are boot unlockable
For europe instead? I know that g6 was unlocked only for Europe
I live in Europe, so that will be OK for me, but still, once unlocked bootloader, did you pass safetynet?

I am in the US, and I must have root, so I don't have the G6 yet, unless root comes.
Once the bootloader is unlocked, flash TWRP. Then flash MAGISKs newest version. Then set up masgisk and you should be fine passing safety net
Really interested in this. I have a Note 8 on order but if the v30 is Bootloader unlocked and rooted then it may be enough for me to jump ship. Having Resurrection Rom on the v30 would be amazing but not keeping my hopes up being that the V20 was not as bootloader unlock friendly as before and required Dirty Santa unlock. Don't think the simple OEM UNLOCK command will work.

Root has come to the U.S. version of the LG G6, if you buy the U.S. carrier unlocked version, which is also eligible for bootloader unlock. LG G6 US997. Don't buy carrier branded versions.
Here's the OFFICIAL LG bootloader unlock list:
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
See the U.S. LG G6 US997?
Here's even a custom ROM specifically for the LG G6 U.S. carrier unlocked version:
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][7.1.2]Dirty Unicorns 11.6[US997]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/development/rom-dirty-unicorns-11-6-t3659943
So, same deal with the LG V30. Wait for the carrier unlocked version, which comes a few weeks after the carrier stores fleece the suckers.
I'm predicting mid-November.
Whenever it's released (carrier unlocked version), it will also be on that bootloader unlock list and can be rooted.
Apparently the carrier unlocked U.S. version which is bootloader unlock eligible will be LG V30 US998.

NO, the T-mobile LG V30 version will NOT be bootloader unlocked. (At least not in the way we need.) That's all in the past. For instance with the LG G6, you have to buy the U.S. carrier unlocked version (LG G6 US997), not the T-mobile version which is still effectively bootloader locked. There's still no root for the T-mobile LG G6 released MONTHS ago, because all the fastboot commands have been disabled.
OK, to get technically granular the T-mobile LG G6 bootloader can be "unlocked" but nothing else can be done:

In effect, the phone is still locked down. So, months later still NO root, no TWRP, nothing can be done.
There's 23 pages for root bounty on the T-mobile LG G6, but of course no root yet because all the fastboot commands have been disabled. 23 pages of people BEGGING for root and pledging money for the T-mobile "bootloader unlocked" LG G6.
Two devs even ported ROMs and posted them to the T-mobile LG G6 thread and everyone is like, "Why are you posting that stuff here? We can't use it!"
Whereas, the U.S. carrier unlocked version of the LG G6 (US9978) has TWRP, root, ROMs, etc. and is compatible with ALL U.S. carriers. Same with the European carrier unlocked version (H870) of the LG G6. Here's one of the ROMs for those UNLOCKED versions, which are also on LG's BOOTLOADER UNLOCK LIST:
The LG V30 carrier unlocked versions will be added to that list when LG releases them, a few weeks AFTER the branded carrier versions. Do NOT buy a carrier-branded LG V30 if you care about bootloader unlock, root, TWRP, custom kernels, ROMs...
I know this thread if for the LG V30, but I'm saying LG will probably do EXACTLY the same thing they did with the LG G6. They will LOCK DOWN all the bootloaders for all the carrier versions, but will then release carrier-unlocked U.S. and European versions which will be eligible for "real" bootloader unlock. Those phones will get root, ROMs, etc.
The TMobile v20 was bootloader unlockable via adb oem unlock. And as I understand it, the tmobile G6 was the same.
So most likely the TMOBILE V30 will be the same, but much the current G6, security will be tough to obtain root
I would not be surprised if the V30 is boot locked this time and they want to compete with Samsung, especially with the use of flash signature and anti rollbacks lately

NO, the T-mobile LG G6 is not NOT bootloader unlockable. At least not the way we need here on XDA. (You can "unlock" the bootloader on the T-mobile LG G6, but cannot flash anything on it.) I provided proof in the links above. Instead you just repeat the same incorrect information? Please don't do that. At least read before replying? See the blue underlined links? If I say something and there's a blue underlined link, it's direct proof of what I'm saying. NO root, no TWRP, nothing for any T-mobile LG G6 which was released MONTHS AGO.
As I said, that's all in the past, about T-mobile having "unlocked" bootloaders. They no longer have it for Samsung phones nor for LG phones.
There's 23 pages for root bounty on the T-mobile LG G6, but of course no root yet because all the fastboot commands have been disabled.

You KNOW there's the T-mobile LG G6 is still locked down. So WHY here are you saying here it's not?
I'm educating people before they screw up. You NEED the carrier unlocked version, which qualifies for LG's bootloader unlock list. (REAL bootloader unlock.) The U.S. and European LG V30 carrier unlocked will appear on that list after they are released, probably in mid-November...

T-mobile H872 G6 doesn't have root yet and will only have root once they have a method to get TWRP onto the device. Fastboot boot/flash commands are disabled so it will take an exploit of some sort to get TWRP flashed to the recovery partition.
The only other G6 device that will have root is whatever device LG adds to the official bootloader unlock list which can be found here: http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
The models added to the bootloader unlock list will be the models to get for proper bootloader unlock, TWRP and root without jumping through hoops like the Tmobile H872 variant does. (currently U.S. and European unlocked carrier LG G6)
For all the other G6 variants without bootloader unlock (AT&T, Verizon, us cellular, canadian, australian, south american, korean, chinese, etc..), a new root method of some sort would be needed but there is nothing public yet. Once a public root arrives and if a debug bootloader image is leaked (like the LG V20) then other G6 variants might be able to have an unlocked bootloader allowing TWRP and permanent root.
Just laying out all the current info to this date. I have no plans to work on any of this as I do not have the device.

He had even posted in that same LG G6 "useless" ROM thread you did! So it's not like he's unfamiliar with the locked-down T-MOBILE LG G6 situation... Therefore, I don't know why he keeps saying the T-mobile LG G6 bootloader is "unlocked".
(At the risk of confusing people, yes the T-mobile LG G6 bootloader can be unlocked, but all the other fastboot commands have been disabled. So, it doesn't do you any good. I'm hoping when the U.S. carrier unlocked version (LG V30: US998.USA) is actually released to the public for sale it will have the 600mhz band.
Or that you can flash the T-mobile radio to it to enable that band 71.
I'm pretty sure the hardware (antennas) will all be the same on all the U.S. models. The differences then would be firmware.

That makes me cry reading that, because #1 it's true, and #2, the whole reason I came to T-Mobile a few years ago, because they were the last carrier still releasing new flagships with unlocked bootloaders.
Absolutely blows they stopped too, now all 4 major U.S. carriers are locked down today The old days of buying a carrier version Galaxy Note, rooting it and installing TWRP, and then flashing the latest Cyanogen ROM are gone. Really is sad. Imagine the S8 or G6 running Lineage 14.1 now

No one is working on an unofficial way to unlock the bootloader or bypass the locked one, AFAIK, so yes, we have to wait LG to add the G6 to the official bootloader unlock program, mind that usually only the european international model will support this method.
On G5 there are three models with a bit of modding: European H850 (Official bootloader unlock), T-Mobile H830 (Tot Exploit) and US Unlocked RS988 (Official Bootloader Unlock), also the G5 SE has is present in that program but there is no TWRP ATM.
If you have an European H870 then just wait for LG, if not and if you need root then there is no ETA and no information about a possibility to obtain root.

What's the reasoning behind this?
Is it akin to LG's absurd decisions regarding which region gets what hardware / features?
This doesn't sit well with me, I'm used to an OEM fully supporting open development... I've had a Sony Xperia Z2 for the past 3 years and both the phone and the XDA community have been awesome.

Yep, I've been reading through the V20 forum as well as here, more than 6 months after release and there's still very little development on the V20.

Indeed they do. But, now they strip out all the fastboot commands, which is what makes twrp & root so difficult. Same on the g5.
I personally, would like to think based on LG's previous Bootloader Unlocking... That it will hopefully only be a matter of time for the G6 to be officially Unlocked.
It is something that I personally can wait for..
But it does ask the question?... Who or what/how are the bootloader decisions made @ LG as to what handsets are given the full LG Bootloader unlocking?
I hope so, but the g5 and v20, which are close to the same in this respect, haven't been cracked since a december pacth that blocked "recowvery". There are ways to keep root from previous versions, but we have no previous version.
Edit.. EU/International variant I was talking about.

Just bootloader unlock won't help for the carrier branded models. Here's why... the T-mobile LG G6 already has bootloader unlock, but LG removed all the other ADB flash commands. So, bootloader unlock is useless on the T-mobile LG G6. Six months later, still no root, no TWRP custom recovery. Even if you could unlock the bootloader to the other carrier-branded models, LG has probably removed the ADB flash commands from those phones as well? Only the official carrier unlocked versions are eligible for REAL bootloader unlock, the way you are thinking about.
Look down in the development section here for the official carrier unlocked LG G6 (which is eligible for REAL bootloader unlock with ADB flash commands present). TWO pages of ROMs, kernels, custom recovery.
Yet, over on the "bootloader unlocked" T-mobile LG G6 forum, there's 23 pages of root begging thread, which has now been abandoned as a lost cause.
Not only would you have to get bootloader unlock from LG, they would have to add back the ADB flash commands -- or a dev find some exploit to get TWRP custom recovery installed. And that's not been possible yet on the T-mobile LG G6, even though it's bootloader unlocked!
If you are interested in dev stuff for your phone, sell your LG G6, and get one of the official carrier unlocked models -- either the LG G6 or even the new LG V30.

For the carrier-branded models, yeah probably no hope.
My point is LG will say if you are interested in REAL bootloader unlock, they already provide that for the official carrier unlocked models.
Removing the ADB flash commands on the carrier-branded models was very devious "security" method so that cracking the bootloader on carrier models with an exploit (like Dirty Santa) still wouldn't do any good.
With the T-mobile LG G6, devs have has six months to try to find some method of installing TWRP on that unlocked bootloader and not been successful. They may do it some day, but when? Meanwhile the carrier unlocked models have bootloader unlock AND ADB flash commands. If you were a dev, do you go through the already open door or try to break through the brick wall?

Why? They said that they don't make the policy of what to unlock.
LG provides two phones that are unlocked and you can develop on.
Most carriers do not want you to have a rooted phone.
Samsung has KNOX which is even worse. If you try to root the phone you can trip KNOX and brick the device.
Samsung does not unlock devices unless you buy a, wait for it, developer version.
HTC is fairly easy if you find someone to S-OFF the device. But that's not HTC.
Mototola will not unlock the bl on branded phones. On other phones it's hit or miss.
LG with their carrier unbranded phones and Google seem to be the most supportive.
If you buy a Pixel from Verizon, the BL is locked and you can't unlock it.

Glad you found a solutions.
IT varies from country to country and sometimes I forget that.
Here in North America (US and Canadian carriers) getting a Samsung unlocked phone just isn't normally possible.
You can't get a version that supports North American LTE with a boot loader you can unlock.
LG and HTC along with Google phones that are unbranded usually can be unlocked here.
Never buying or getting an lg phone ever again...not even for free. Biggest mistake I have ever made...
Can we flash us997 version over the t mobile version, turning it into a rootable version?I

Can we start a petition to at least unlock the boot loader for Non carrier branded G6 versions ?
I am losing more and more confidence in LG on supporting our device after their concentration on V series and branding change for G series.
We definitely need software support to our phone to justify all the initial hypes and the money we spent.
Please clear my mind, if someone is officially unlock the bootloader for LG G6 (H870 or US997), then the phone will just lost the warranty. So LG will deny the device.
Than why the other types has not got the possibility to unlock.
If they do so, then we (customers) will have just one way - not to buy phones from them in the future.
Hello,
I just started the petition "LG Electronics: Unlock boot loader for all variants of unlocked LG G6 Smartphone" and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name.
My goal is to reach 100 signatures and I need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here:

Thanks!

Same pinch.
I am coming from LG Google Nexus 5x and I am already suffered a lot for coming out of Nexus line.
I assumed that we can at least Install custom firmware and can be in the bleeding edge.
But LG has prevented that as well.
I would also never buy an LG Phone again.

You need the right file sent by LG because content of the file depends by your IMEI and Device ID. Each unlock.bin file is unique.

Same here. I don't do much dev work or CFW now, but I hate that it's not even possible with this variant. I owned a Google Nexus 6P that started having battery drain issues at just over a year. Nexus Protect will send you another phone for $75, but since they refuse to acknowledge that the battery issue exists, if it starts having issues, they expected me to pay $75 to get another defective one. No thanks.
This phone can't be unlocked, but I suppose I'm just thankful that it doesn't drop to 20% battery in 2 hours and then shut off 10 mins later!
does anyone know if there's any way to unlock bootloader with this model was thinking about purchasing this and wanted to see if there was a way to do so and possibly get TWRP too.

That's the Sprint phone. Unless you're a Sprint customer, best to stay away from it. And even if you're a Sprint customer, you're never going to unlock the bootloader.
No carrier branded North America LG V30 variants have bootloader unlock, TWRP and root.
Only three models have that, the ones authorized by LG.

H930G is V30+. Single SIM.
Sold in Italy (even available for official LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list) and Israel (not eligible for the LG official bootloader unlock).
This new exploit does not need LG's permission, of course.

Doesn't matter. It's already on US998. If Nougat, update to Oreo, bootloader unlock and root.
If already on Oreo US998, then just bootloader unlock and root.

So I am buying the one form B&H Photo listed as
LG V30S ThinQ 128GB Smartphone (Unlocked, Matte Moroccan Blue)
Will I be able to unlock the bootloader via the method provided on this site for unlocking bootloaders? Do I have the capabilities for an official unlock from LG? PLZ let me know, last thing I want is another phone I cant unlock the bootloader on.
Also one last question, if the phone an be bootloader unlocked, would I be able to flash roms that are for the v30, or do they specifically have to be for the v30s?
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR TIME!!!

Yes, you will be able to unlock the bootloader on your V30S, in fact, I own a rooted one. You would have the official unlock, however LG doesn't always honor their promise of providing unlocks for all US carrier-open phones.
Your phone will be practically the same phone as an ordinary V30, you'll be able to normally flash any rom - be careful of flashing non-stock ones however(strong likelihood to bootloop). No roms need to be specifically for the V30S. You just have an updated version of the same V30 firmware. I have the same exact phone as you.
