annoying bug / handwriting and text prediction - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

hello fellow samsungnites,
I disabled all options under Smart Typing, yet blank spaces are being automatically added when handwriting. Please check this video and screenshots.
https://vimeo.com/231505708
My specs:
SM-T820 fully updated
latest version of samsung keyboard
I also cleared it's cache.
And there you go, another bug just reared it's head. No matter what, it insists in adding an apostrophe when none is required and prediction is disabled.
it's instead of its.
Note: the bug doesn't happen if I add a comma or period after a word.
does the same happen to you?
thanks!

I'm trying what you did it's adding in its own spaces when I lift the pen. It did do its and it's depending on where I dotted the i.

I have an open ticket with Samsung support. They allege they couldn't replicate this bug in their lab.
They insist I should do a "hard reset", or reload factory defaults, which I declined because it's drastic, time consuming and, more importantly, it does not guarantee to fix the issue.
Is your tab S3 loaded with alot of apps on is it "clean" in the sense that it's similar to an android that was reset?
thanks again!
note: I just had a fantastic idea. I am heading right now to the nearest Best Buy store and test their samsungs on display.

I have quite a few apps but nothing really out there. mostly I read and play a few casual games. I'm pretty sure this is just the way the sensor works in order to allow people to just write.

mission accomplished.
I just got back from the Dundas Square Best Buy. The same bug happened on their tab S3 demo. There is another store not far away which I will visit tomorrow.
on a side note tab S3 spen works on the Note 8, though I didn't test the handwriting bug.
Stay tuned...

I understand. But other handwriting apps do not add a blank space if I resume writing right next to the last letter.

If the Spen is working differently in different apps, Samsung must be controlling specific parts of the api as default behaviour.

I believe there is confusion.
This problem happens on my tab S3 (sm-t820) in handwriting mode regardless of app.
With your test and the additional tests i performed today at Best Buy, I am convinced it's a bug with the Samsung keyboard driver (or app).
The Same issue does not happen if the handwriting tool is google's handwriting app or MyScript.

another Best Buy, another tab S3.

Samsung DIVE

Has anybody tried to activate Samsung Dive on their Note? I created the Samsung account but I don't see any options to activate the remote control settings on the note, even though it says in Samsung's site that the options will be enabled automatically when the Samsung account is created.
http://www.samsungdive.com/DiveMain.do
I got to the samsung site logged in, but then to add my phone, nothing happens.
It will not let me register my phone.

To be honest, the feature doesn't work very well even for non-AT&T versions. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 wi-fi and I was never able to let DIVE find my tab at all. Another crapy buggy feature from Samsung.

That's what i meant, Thanks At&t...
I came from a windows phone, and microsoft has that feature enabled for all their phones just by going to windowsphone.com and signing in with your live id. and before that, on windows mobile, i had my phone setup with creeper and it got stolen and i wiped it remotely but before i wiped it, i sent it a couple texts telling the thief where he was and that if he didn't return it i was going to call the police. the next morning the phone was sitting on my desk...
I used that Windows phone feature to locate/spy on my kids iDevices have the similar functionality. Not sure why Google left this one out?
DIVE was left out of the i-717 because AT&T offers their own called Mobile Locate and surprise...they charge for it! It is an add-on to the phone insurance.
My Samsung Galaxy Noteā„¢ is smarter than your Honor Student.
Well Lookout could be an alternative.

Really, no love Cerberus?
You can snap pictures from the website control panel with the phone's front camera and have them emailed to you, or record audio from the mic and send that.
You can make it so any SIM put in the phone that isn't the current SIM will only call a phone number you specify.
You can wipe whatever you want from remotely and track the exact location of your phone at all times.
It is AMAZING!

I saw Cerberus on Twit.tv and think it is a great option. I'd love to know if any of you Note folks tried it. I don't have a Note... yet.
Cerberus is one of the first things I install on a new phone. If you are rooted you can install it into the rom and it will survive factory reset. It blows away anything else out there right now. You can record audio, video, have it call a number, take a picture, snap a screenshot. Remote lock / wipe. It is just amazing.

[Q] Pen mode not working- boost mobile

Hello, I purchased HTC View 4G that has been flashed to use in Boost Mobile service.
So far, I like the device, and happy with the purchases.
However, I came across with a problem and in need of support.
One of the main reason that lead me to purchase this was the integration of pen/stylus to draw/write freely. I tried various ways to make pen mode to work, but it seems that function isn't working properly.
I pressed a green pen-mode button located on the bottom right corner, and there's no response.
I also went to settings--> pen--> tutorial, but I can't draw anything in the box.
I have no clue what the problem is.
Any comment/suggestion would be much appreciated.

i think you need to be more specific with your problem,
- what kind of pen do you use?
- which kind of ROM do you use?
Have you inserted the batteries into the pen? If so, try with a different AAAA battery, perhaps the stock one is drained.

Of course you can add it. You can also increase the resolution of the phone, the size of the screen. And last but not least this site will show you how to get your phone to make you a sandwich!

Have a nice day!
Quite a few years ago back when cameras on phones were starting to become the norm, a friend was looking in a phone shop. He was looking at a fairly basic phone which didn't have a camera. A salesman then came over and told him that whilst the phone he was looking at didn't have a camera, he could download one afterwards. The same salesman told me that the phone's screen could display 64k colours. I told him that I don't think I could even name 64 colours, let alone 64 thousand. Fun times.
I heard you can download a bigger battery onto your phone too (full instructions here)

No, s2 plus has different hardware, it's not using exynos chip and the camera sensor is different too.. so yeah, we just can't add zero shutter lag to old s2 cause it's hardware thingy.. (though it would be great if it can lol)

Experience PRO "Tap to Wake" function

Hi everyone,
since I rooted my Ultra I tried to find something useful besides using Titanium Backup to restore all the apps I had on my S3...
I found out some time ago that the tablet Z has the "Tap to Wake" function, and began searching for a solution for the ultra: the app in the title seems to fit perfectly, as it doesn't require any special kernel or framework (it does need busybox installed, but hey, I'd have installed it anyway) for any of its functionalities to work.
BUT, I actually don't want to spend even 2 bucks for the app if it doesn't work.
As I read in the specific thread on XDA, support is a little bit lacking, and while starting the test app it says my Ultra is compatible, several reviews say they were supposed to have compatible devices but the app has never worked.
Anyone has already tried it? Or has any alternative?

Yeah I do know that, but I also downloaded the test app, and it said it was compatible but not yet listed as so...
Guess I'll stay away and wait for a kernel that supports it...

very good question
I'd love a tap to wake option.
I have been using Automaton for a day or two. I use a simple sunglasses sleeve(large-stretchy) while I wait for a slow boat case.
Automaton uses proximity sensors to give wake features like the S4. When I pull it from the case or pocket, instant on. I haven't figured out getting it to go straight to home screen. There is an option.
Also just setting it upside down on a flat surface will then put it to sleep.
I hope this helps.

IR Remote App

Hi all, I'm sure not everyone uses the IR blaster and the quick remote app but here's to those who use it daily.
The LG quick remote app, isn't really that quick - no widget, or quick access from your homescreen, afaik. Other apps I use to find handy was the anymote but somehow, it shows that the LG v20 is unable to learn new codes, which is totally false since the LG app is able to do that.
Does anyone have a better recommendation of the app they use? Feel free to chip in please!

Galaxy remote looks pretty sleek! Fingers crossed it learns code on the v20 too!
I use anymote from the play store. Out of all I've tried, it's the best one so far
I'm definitely one of those who use the IR Blaster daily and it was a major factor in getting the v20, but unfortunately from what I've read LG doesn't follow standard IR protocols so most universal apps claim to not support LG devices. I used to use Smart Remote (which eventually turned into Anymote) and none of my devices work with it so can't use it, and I haven't tried peel yet but I have tried a lot of other different IR apps and the couple that actually worked seemed to be spotty at best. I was really disappointed that I can't use Anymote because I loved the way I had it setup and I've been forced to use quick remote which like the OP said basically sucks, so I'm really hoping someone figures something out or is able to find a universal app that works the way it should with this phone.

Ok thanks for the info I'll definitely give it shot and post my results whenever I get a chance. I was also going to edit my previous post because I came across a decent IR app on the Play store I had never heard of before called "Sure", and I haven't had a chance to see if recording is available or not and if it works or if includes any widgets yet. I can say it does cover a huge amount of devices and all of the ones I've tried so far work exactly like they should, I only had a few minutes to mess with it this afternoon but so far it seems like a pretty decent app.

and i'll be Sure to take a look at that too. Haven't had time to tinker with the app yet. Yeah, anymote needs to have the alternate ir control thing on for it to work.
another thing is the blaster's ranges seems to be intermittent at times, or perhaps just a very narrow direct pointing field. most times it has to be direct for the commands to work.

Just from using for 2 days I can already completely agree with you on that! What really blew me away was the ability to create a custom button that you can manually add the hex or decimal ir code to! I've had this hdmi switch that I got a long time ago (and of course it was missing the remote) that I had all but given up on because I could never find it listed as a device on any of the apps I've tried, and when I figured out you could manually enter ir hex codes with Galaxy I looked it up online and found them.. and then Bob's your uncle I can control it with my phone now! I'm sure there are probably other apps that also let you manually add the ir codes, but that along with all of the customization options and being able to add widgets makes Galaxy the best one imo too!

haha, yeah. on that note, i must say the quick bulletin doesn't really serve much use. i miss the old days of my HTC one with the quick feed and integration.
i'm currently trying to figure out how to decode the ir commands since galaxy does not learn the codes or have the codes to my devices. T__T

Have you tried using the code scan feature that Galaxy has to see if it finds it? I'm kind of in the same boat with an oscillating floor fan that I have in my room, and after 2 days of searching online I finally emailed the Galaxy devs last night to see if they could send me the code. I was surprised because they actually responded pretty quickly and they suggested I try the scan option and see if it finds it (I knew it was there but I completely forgot to try it so as soon as I get home from work I'm going to give it a shot), and they said if that doesn't work then they should be able to find the code I need and send it to me. So I have to say Galaxy Universal was worth every penny and I can't say enough good things about it!
As far as ripping codes off of other apps that would be awesome and yeah I wouldn't even know where to begin. One thing I've been wondering ever since I found out quick remote can record IR codes (meaning that our IR blasters can also receive), is if it would be possible for someone to create an app that could show the IR hex codes of whatever remotes you point at it because that would be forkin awesome. I have no idea what the limitations are though I just figured if quick remote can duplicate an IR code from another remote, you'd think it would at least be possible to create an app that can display the code info instead of just duplicating it. Anyway hope you get it figured out and if I'm able to get mine working I'll post the results.
