I just picked up this tablet a few days ago, so far it's very nice - although maybe a little slow - Has anyone worked out a method for root on this yet? The best I can dig up was a bit of info in a German forum: https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/acer-iconia-tab-a3.1801/root-fuer-a40.797192.html - however it refers to A3-A40.
I haven't found a thread on this device so I figured I'd start one up and see what we can come up with - I'll happily provide any info needed on the tablet.
Please guys help us! Just got one too and this thing would be amazing with root. Donations will be given!
I too will provide donations!
Just got mine. I wish we could root it. I guess it also has a locked boot loader too. Dayam!
Need root; Willing to pay; Any interest?
I just got this tablet today for evaluating for a kiosk project.
I also have an A3-A30 on the way tomorrow, in case this B3-A40 couldn't be rooted (we're short on time).
Root is a must-have for our kiosk/messaging app that we're developing, so we can do reboots and other advanced stuff remotely.
I have now tried every "one click" solution, none of them work. Tried unlocking the bootloader manually which was unsuccessful, contacted Acer about it and they told me to check online forums which was of no help at all. Even tried gaining root through bash on linux but that didn't work either. I have now ran out of options so guess I'm just going to have to give up trying to root it
hi
has any one any luck rooting the acer iconia one 10 b3-a40fhd
i just tried kingo and king root but without succes
i was wondering if any one has been able to root it
the german site i dont think i have enough experience for that unless someone
makes a for dummies guide
See post below
I was just searching (wife finally decided to let me try and unlock it) saw this thread for temp unlock, and perhaps more:
Temp root for some MTK devices - Need help getting permanent root on Acer B3-A40figured it would be VERY good to put here too!
PS: I have included a snapshot of MY B4-A40 Status screen for fun (and knowledge)
btw, the Acer web site DOES have the originaal image version # on their site for downloading
Hope this X-reference thread helps!
Oh yeah, someone somewhere mentioned there's no IMEI # . That would be because it's NOT a phone, and IMEI is a PHONE ID 'thing-y' (yes, that's a technical term!).

I bought a brand new photon 4g and upon activating it.. I made the mistake of accepting the OTA 45.3.6 because now, despite all my efforts to root the device using AIO's, torpedo method, and even using the relatively new method that apparently works well with the Photon
@ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235376
Im about ready to give up. Ive had plenty of experience rooting and flashing my HTC Hero CDMA and Samsung Epic however, i was not expecting this.
It seems the main problem with the AIO's is that they are outdated and I am only receiving error messages upon clicking the batch file (yes i have debugging while USB on)
If anybody could help me or give me an alternative rooting method I would be greatful. Would unlocking the bootloader before trying to root make a difference? Again any help would be super appreciated because I've ready the forums and used TFSE and im still coming up stock.
So I'm really new to the Photon too (came from an Evo4G), and had updated to the latest OTA as well. I just rooted using this method, it worked great:
[ROOT] Photon Torpedo, dockless root access
More specifically, I followed the directions here. Note: I did get an error message near the end of that process, but just kept going, and it worked just fine.
I haven't unlocked the bootloader, so someone else will have to chime in for advice on that....
That worked! And I happened to find another set of directions that made things even easier:

Hi Guys, I'm in a stupid situation and I hope you can help me.
I tried to root my new ZOPO ZP500+ Plus MTK6577 following the instructions from this russian forum: http://forum.china-iphone.ru/viewtopic.php?p=758619#p758619 by using the SP Flash Tool. It was successful, so I got root. But now I have no WLAN and no Bluetooth. :crying:
So I downloaded the original Zopo 500+ Firmware from here:http://www.zopomobile.com/fuwu.php and flashed it. Unfortunately the problem hasn't been resolved.
I try my luck at http://www.zopomobileshop.com/en/content/9-download-zopo-mobile-latest-rom but especially the file for the ZOPO ZP500+ is no longer available.
Please, can someone help me to solve the problem? I know, there are a lot of smart people here. Thank you.
ZOPO ZP500+ PLUS original Firmware / Boot Image
Okay, I got it with the firmware from http://www.zopomobile.com/xiazai.php
Attention for all others: there are two versions of the firmware. Only the version from 20121009 worked for me.
There is also a paper as a pdf on the page that describes the different versions. There is probably a sticker on the back under the battery that indicates the version. For me, this sticker is missing completely, so I could't determine the version.

More on ZP500+ rooting
Further to the above excellent post (noting the firmware differences which is important to know when updating the PROM) I also noted that the root process has caused some users problems. There is a thread on Android.net that I quote below, noting how a ZP500+ was rooted recently. Note it refers back to an xda-developers.com thread about one method for generic rooting a phone:

I have a ZP500+ but in my case the supplier (Etotalk.com) rooted the phone for me prior to shipping the phone too me.
For everybody who has a ZP500+, I'm almost sure that, if you don't have the sticker, your version is 6620 (if you have the sticker, it could be 6628 or 6620, which it is ticked).
I'm having a lot of problems rooting the phone... Teorically, it is rooted, but a lot of apps don't work (root uninstaller, adaway, adblock, root xplorer, etc). In fact, the only app with succesful root access in my phone have been Apex Launcher... Toooooo weird :S
any ideas?? thanks!
/// NOTE - the phone this question is referencing to is NOT bricked or bootlooping. It works fine...however...
Hey Photon users! I'm new to the Motorola Photon (my cousin's phone) and I have recently just finished rooting his phone for him. Now as I am no stranger to rooting, I have an HTC T-Mobile G2 rooted and blinged out, I AM however new to the Motorola phones..specifically the photon. After tons of research and dead end tutorials (due to out-dated or dead links or methods) I am running into an issue to fix this "Failed to Boot 2" Issue. I made the mistake of assuming rooting it was in essence the same thing as unlocking the phone. After little research I found this to not be true. Now I am stuck with the dilemma of trying to find a working Unlock Method for a rooted Photon 4G. Does it matter that I rooted his phone first? Am I going to be able to unlock his phone for him? I'm simply trying to install a custom ROM for his rooted Photon, yet seem to not be able to have the ability to install zip files through the typical recovery method as this would be his only option for installing new ROMs on his own. If I missed a thread where this issue has already been addressed, I do sincerely apologize and would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. I've also uploaded a screenshot of his stats for reference. Thank-you in advance for any help that might come my way. I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and hope you all have an even better new year's eve!

You cannot unlock a photon running android version 2.3.5, sorry. Rooting and installing bootstrap recovery to flash locked roms is the best you can do. You'll have to look or ask around for that process since I've never done it - I avoided the 2.3.5 "update" like the plague. Best of luck.

Recently purchased this phone (April 2016 ZTE Imperial Max). Love the screen quality but do not like the fact that it can not be rooted. I have consulted an app on Facebook (Root Without PC) over the past 3 months and have been given the run around. Is anyone aware of rooting this phone? Never done rooting so it would be something new to me. If anyone could lead me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated . Mod Edit: personal email address used. This site gets crawled by spambots so please do not post your personal email!
same here, i recently purchased the zte imperial max and havent been able to find a root for it yet. is there any way to know if xda is working on it?
Root for April 2016 ZTE Imperial Max
I have imposed the question to xda forum and hopefully we will be able to get a rooting method for this. I am sick of bloatware and not being able to hack my games. I want control over this phone, not this phone having control over me. I have heard that as long as the boot loader is unlocked, then any method can be used to root the phone. I don't know how true this is though. I have tried kingoroot, iroot, and towel root, and they aren't working... So I guess it is sit back and play the waiting game
I would also be interested in seeing a root method, especially since there is an issue preventing me from updating to the B05 update.

Sorry, found this thread from a google search, I wonder if a moderator will be able to move it to the right place, since it seems the OP made the thread on August 6 2016.
Hello all, I've come with an interesting problem.
I've recently purchased the incredibly cheap TracFone ZTE Z233, running "3.10.49-gdac61ef-00512-ge30dd04 zte-kerne;@Zdroid-SMT" and have decided to try and root it. After having gone through conventional methods, I would like to ask for your guys's input. I started by attempting the traditional methods, specifically downloading and attempting to run KingRoot.apk on the phone. The resulting message, "Cannot find an app to open this file" sent me to find the google play store. Upon the discovery that there was no google play store, I downloaded and ran the windows version of KingRoot on my PC after connecting the phone. Unfortunately, even though my PC recognized the device and was able to move files on and off of it, KingRoot could not find the phone.

Next, I tried to step through the directions Kingroot gave for enabling USB debugging as you can see in the second image. Unfortunately, I parsed through every single setting in the settings menu of the Z233, and no USB debugging option exists on this device. Upon discovering this, I attempted to find other means of rooting ZTE devices and discovered https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319257&page=1 was quite popular. However, this method also requires USB debugging. I won't bore you with the five or six other methods I tried, the issue always boiled down to the solution requiring a feature this phone did not have. The point is, as far as I can tell, there is no way to root this phone by conventional means.
I don't absolutely need to root this, (I bought it as a burner phone) but now I'm interested in rooting it as a project. I'm genuinely curious as to whether or not it can be done. I was hoping you guys would have some leads. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty or do stuff that would risk bricking the phone (like I said, it was cheap.)
Any thoughts, questions or leads? Thanks!
I have ZTE Cymbal Z-320, which is quite similar to this. I can reach USB debug only in FTM mode (when phone is off, PWR ON + VOL DOWN and you in). Root apps are founding phone, tryying to root, but can't. It running android 5.1.1, read more https://androidforums.com/threads/zte-cymbal-z320-root-hack.1290564/
