Hey everyone!
Currently a user of an RR rooted oneplus 3. Love the phone but I keep hearing good things about Xiaomi.
I must admit I'm curious, especially with the Mi Mix 2 coming out. How are Xiaomi phones on US cell networks? I would mainly be using AT & T. I have no problem putting custom roms etc on my phones so that's not an issue.
I just wouldnt want to be stuck with a phone that had bad 4G/LTE support.
Pros and cons of going with a Xiaomi phone vs say the one plus 5, or a true US supported phone like the LG V30 or upcoming pixel XL2 or even the asus zenphone 4 pro?
Curious to see what everyone has to say .

I'm using Redmi note 4 global Version in USA on T-Mobile. You just need to do a little research on what frequency at&t uses. Or what bands they use. For me I'm only getting 1 LTE band supported which is band 4. I get lte everywhere and it's fast. This is what at&t supports 17(700Mhz), Band 5(850Mhz), Band 2(1900Mhz), Band 4(1700/2100Mhz) currently. You can use this http://www.china-prices.com/phone/bands/7131/xiaomi-redmi-note-4-64gb to check compatibility with Chinese phones it's pretty accurate. So I just looked it up the global Version of Redmi note 4 you would get 2 LTE bands. Better than what I get. You can research other xiaomi phones as well.

Also switch service to mint sim for $25 a month with unlimited talk text and 10gb of data. Redmi note 4 global Version 3gb around $150 and the 4gb version around $200.
There are some xiaomi phones that support more bands but they do cost more. A unlocked phone in the USA you should be getting at least 3 LTE frequencies support. Like on T-Mobile there are 3 main bands. 2 4 and 12. 12 is for when your inside and it penetrates through buildings. At&t might have the same type of thing with 850mhz. Lower the frequency the farther it can travel.
Feel free to direct message me if you have more questions I've basically researched all available xiaomi phones. I can help you with compatibility
You don't have to worry about bands support, if it doesn't support bands on USA, You can unlock all bands on Mido, 1-41 bands can be unlocked

So basically as long as the soc's modem supports it then there are ways to unlock it. I am unfamiliar with Mido. What is that? I am going to be targeting a Snapdragon 835 phone here in the next month or two. Hopefully we will see on the 11th the mi mix 2 getting that Soc.

I'm not sure about the first line, but here on RN4 it can be unlocked with other version of RN4 who had All bands unlocked
Mido is code name for Redmi Note 4, every devices on Xiaomi have their own code name
I think yes it will be getting 835
I think it will be support for Mi Mix 2 on USA, i know someone who had mi6 basically had same soc, and he can used it in USA
Unlocking bands is not easy at all.. it's possible in theory, but it's extremely complicated and dangerous you can completely brick your phone.
Dont even consider this, i dont know what this guy above is talking about. Maybe he will present us unlocked all bands if this is so easy?

It's easy and it will not brick your phone, only signal loss and you can restore your backup if anything happened (signal loss)
I have the redmi note 4x international with snapdragon soc on cricket (att prepay service). I cant say about the mi max 2 but my device works great with att network. The phone came with the global rom installed and all I had to do was put a sim in it. Network was found, data worked, sms and mms both worked. Have had no issues with the phone on cricket/att.
Just like to follow up with my post. Did some digging and apparently mi mix 2 will be fully capable in the US as the mi mix 2 will ship with a global version that has Google play support. Very cool stuff if this article is to be believed. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fo...ix-2-was-built-with-the-u-s-audience-in-mind/

Make sure your sim is in Sim slot 1 which is the one that goes farthest inside phone that's the only one that works for LTE.
Looks like your carrier runs off the t mobile network. You have lte band 2 4 and 12. There are also multiple versions of redmi note 4. If you have redmi note 4 global version which runs the snapdragon processor you should be ok and getting LTE on band 4.
Also depending on what area you are in and the cell towers in your area you could be to far from LTE cell towers. Good luck
Go into sim apn settings there should be one already setup called fast t mobile. Because I'm pretty sure your on t mobile network you can select that and get LTE.

A good app from the play store is called LTE discovery it will tell you what band or frequency you are on I posted a couple screen shots on a different phone though running MIUI 8 but should be about the same. Also what plan are you on maybe you have used all your data? Also check with your carrier you might have to supply the IMEI number for them to activate it. Are you able to make calls?
Are you able to use the Sim in a different phone and LTE is fine?
Are you sure your not on redmi note 4x?

Does LTE actually continue to work for you after you make a voice call or when it otherwise switches to something other than LTE?
Because I'm on cricket as well and mine never goes back to LTE once it switches to H+. I've gotta go into preferred network and switch to to Prefer 3G and back to Prefer LTE to make it work again.
I've tried it with an AT&T prepaid sim as well. I've also done a factory reset, tried the nano sim in slot 2 and also in a micro sim adapter in slot 1. All with the same result. I've got good LTE signal on band 4 all over the place which works perfectly when it's connected. But if I make a phone call or walk into the center of home depot where the signal drops for even a second, it will go to H+ and literally never switch back.

oh OK. Im on 8.5.4.0. I should probably try 9, or Lineage soon.
I did actually witness this thing switch from H+ to LTE today, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was out in the middle of nowhere, and the LTE signal showed 1 bar, so apparently the H+ must have been even worse.
Guys H+ is fast too, I think it's like up to like 168mbps. Personally I have no problems with LTE but I prefer to use H+ because it's enough of speed for everything you could think of, obviously the signal is better then 4g and it's easier on battery.
Edit:
Actually it seems like H+ can be even faster then LTE.

Question for you guys!
Brief background:
I live in MN, USA and currently have a Nexus 6 on the Verizon network (works great as it's unlocked).
Just got a SIM card on T-Mobile (the $30 a month plan). Also works great on the Nexus 6.
What I am hoping to do is use the T-mobile SIM for Data and the Verizon SIM for voice calls. By looking at the frequency bands, it "looks" like this should work. What do you guys think? I am planning on installing some kinda of custom ROM on the 5X also. Something like CM12/13 if possible.
Not sure but with Verizon, I am assuming that the Honor 5X will only be able to use the WCDMA frequencies on Band 1.
I cannot post external links, so I've taken some screenshots of the frequencies and Bands.
Thanks!

I don't think the phone supports CDMA at all, I would be surprised if Verizon will work
Verizon wont work, it's CDMA not GSM.
Doesn't work very well on tmobs either. I don't know if I have a bad device, but the signal is horrible compared to other devices (S7e, HTC 10 and Galaxy Prime)

Hi, the Note 3 Pro is stating the following frequencies for LTE 1800/2100/2600MHz and according to Google, Koodo is 1700/2100 MHz (AWS). Only 1 of the frequency matches, does that mean that the signal reception will be bad or not working at all? Is there a way to fix this?
Thank you!
The Note 3 Pro works perfectly fine on Koodo. I didn't have to config anything with the APN and such, just popped my sim card in slot 1. Haven't had any issues.
IT may work as you say, your more than likely speaking of 3G. . . What about 4G LTE ?
I know that Fido/Rogers are not using the same frequencies so it's not exactly an answer to your question but with Fido I got strong LTE signal everywhere I went so far.

There are three versions, the one you found, there is one with band 4 (1700), and Kate special edition with band 4 and a bunch of others.
You need the one with band 4 or Kate or Lte will be really spotty and won't work indoors at all.
I have the the one with band 4 and LTE works really well with Bell. All big 3 carriers use band 4 (1700) Lte.

There was also something else I read (virgin user here to - currently non 4G) about having to wait until your next billing cycle until you can begin using 4G services. Annoying and I've seen lots of people complaining as they have to wait to their refresh date which could be anywhere up to a few weeks.
Probably stating the obvious but have you selected the LTE option under (preferred network type) mobile network settings?

Yep LTE set as preferred
Also I ordered the sim before my last billing date. The sim turned up about a week after the billing date.
Maybe the next billing date?

Have u checked to use another provider?
i have a similar issue, not all providers that have these bands listed use them in all locations, i am with Rogers in canada who does have band 7, which this phone has, but they only have it in certain areas, not the full coverage, so i sit on 3g a lot.
Check this site, i shows that your provider also has limited coverage on the available bands. willmyphonework.net
I have the same issue. I'm with Three and it keeps dropping to H+ far too regularly.
Had this sim for a while and worked perfectly well on my Jiayu S3.

Band 7 should be supported and usable but I doubt the hardware supports band 4.
You should have gotten the Redmi Note 3 instead, the Chinese version supports band 4, 7 and 40 out of the bands used in Canada, and the Special Edition ("international version") supports bands 2, 4, 7 and 40. The Chinese model also supports 3G on band 4 (1700/AWS).

Hi there I have a Redmi Note 4x International version Snapdragon, 3GB + 32GB). And I have this phone since 3 or 4 weeks. So far so good. But one (BIG) downside: I haven't been able to connect to 4g so far.
I know the a phone ain't capable of 800mhz 4g, but 1800mhz should be possible.
I am in Utrecht, Netherlands and my carrier, Vodafone should have 4G via 1800mhz here. 4G works instant on my broken Oneplus X.
Anyone ideas to help me out? Thanks in advance

There is no international version of Note 4x. This is asian variant and is missing some frequencies used in EU - for example B20. International version is Redmi Note 4 Global. (why didn't you get it instead?)
As for your question, from what i see majority of antennas used by Vodafone in NL uses 800MHz (B20) so maybe you are not in range of 1800MHz.
You can also try to setup your VPN's manually.

Thanks for your reply. I got this phone because in my region there should be plenty 1800mhz antennas from what I saw on the map on that very page you mentioned. Even in Amsterdam I had no 4G reception.
Check attached map from Vodafone site. If iPhone 5 has 4G mine should have it as well, right?

No difference unfortunatly
You cannot return it anymore? I would just replace it with Global variant with B20.
On the other side do you really need LTE? H+ can be as fast and even faster than 4G (download), LTE has just much higher upload speeds.
Hey guys any help with this would be amazing. I grabbed this for really cheap the other day and thought it would be able to use ATT LTE since others have had success but no matter what it will only connect to H+ even when LTE finder finds the band I wanted. Really frusted as I thought I got the right model. There is only ONE international one right? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks you guys. Hopefully I didn't mess up and get a wrong version or something though I can return it if I did.

What I can't understand or just not knowing is the amazon version I have does 1,3,5,8 and up but the listings on Ebay have them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,12 etc...basically all bands which I can't seem to figure out. Is there a difference? I have the UK model which is the Worldwide model not the chinese one but are there OTHER regional differences that unlock more bands? Is there a way to manually force this if so? I figured return to amazon and then get the ebay version but that is stupid if they are incorrect and they really dont' cover 2,4,5,12 for ATT that is needed.

I figured return to amazon and then get the ebay version but that is stupid if they are incorrect and they really dont' cover 2,4,5,12 for ATT that is needed.

I searched around today and found this. Scroll down to the connectivity part and you see that the phone supports 1 of 5 ATT LTE bands, and 0 of 5 T-Mobile LTE bands. However, I'm not sure if this information is accurate since my phone detects a neighboring band 4 LTE cell tower (which my old phone instantly connected to), but does not connect to it. Also, why is the rest of the forum quiet about this issue? Is it really just me and you that are experiencing it (or that live in the US)? I also am very confused why Huawei removed the USSD code menu option wherein you could force it to LTE. I've heard that changing something in the build.prop can force it, but you need to be rooted for that, and I've gotten bored of rooting phones lol (and the risks involved).
Luckily, for me, this isn't that big of a problem as data still works (albeit slowly), and in the beginning of September I'll be in France for at least a year. So, I made sure that this phone's bands matched up with what the carriers are on in France, so hopefully I should be fine. Otherwise, it's a sleek, awesome phone.
Honor 10 isnt made for US and US bands, even if its the global version. The bands in US are different from those in EU or Asia.
As the guy above confirmed this, the it has just one LTE compatbile band at ATT.
the one on ebay global version from Singapore is not what u think. there's a misprint on its ad. these are the actual bandwidths it supports ;
col~L29
Primary SIM card:
4G LTE TDD: B38/B40/B41
4G LTE FDD: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B19/B20
3G WCDMA: B1/B2/B5/B8/B6/B19
2G GSM: B2/B3/B5/B8
Secondary SIM card:
4G LTE TDD: B38/B40/B41
4G LTE FDD: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B19/B20
3G WCDMA: B1/B2/B5/B8/B6/B19
2G GSM: B2/B3/B5/B8
I want to tweak the build. prop, too, but root is required but, unfortunately, Huawei pulled that recent maneuver everyone frustrated about.

Yeap its a bit dead end without unlocking the bootloader. I dont know if by building and compiling original firmware from released sources and make the changes there, if it would allow you to install it.
Yes I too can pick up band 4 on LTE finder on my phone but I cannot use it, if I could then I would have fine coverage. If I go 5 miles away the other half of the city has full ATT LTE 5 coverage so I was bummed LOL when I went up there and saw full bars LTE+ LOL. Yeah the ebay guys are just putting false info then. I have my bootloader code to unlock as I have done to my V10 but not sure how that would enable the other band 4 I need. I don't have quite that much experience.
I don't know if there is something comparable to this available to be done (since Honor 10 has a Kirin and not a qualcomm), but I'm just going to leave this here for now.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059
I don't know if Honor went the route of having a few more lte bands and just disabling them in software since my phone does detect band 4 lte, but can't connect to it, but what do I know.
I have the same issue on t-mobile network.
From all the research i did it looks like the US bands are software locked. P20 supports all LTE bands (including US) and it runs on the same chipset, Kirin 970. Also as few people said, they are able to see band 4 in LTE discovery (and other apps), I can see it as well, but can't connect.
As for the software to unlock lte bands, there is nothing like that for Kirin right now.
The only option for now is to find the right modem files, edit them and flash to the device. At least that's the only thing that comes to my mind.
I'm digging through source files, which were released by Huawei, whenever i have a chance, but i'm not even sure what I'm looking for.
really sucks because of all the phones I have (a lot LOL) this is by far my favorite one to use, the way the backing was slightly curved and everyting is just perfect except for that pesky LTE issue. I know they are software locked like you said but have no way of getting it unlocked. I hve picked up LTE 4 here as well but cannot use it at all. I can get full 4g LTE when I drive 5 five miles up the road LOL but only 3g+ here at my home which is the issue. Argggg.....i have about a week left before i have to return it or keep it so I'm on the fence. My honor v10 with 970 has all bands, and my P20 lite has all LTE bands too I just don't get it.

This is my favorite too. I guess Huawei really just wants to push the more pricier p20's in the U.S, even though they aren't really in the U.S. market to begin with anymore. With very similar specs to the P20 pro, the honor 10 would easily take away sales from the P20. Can't stop gearbest though, lol. Anyways, the extent of my modification to an android device was decompiling a rom (I think?), editing in specific MCC/MNC values for an AT&T MVNO in a certain file, recompiling it and flashing it to get 4gLTE back, since my phone thought it was roaming. I'm assuming the software-locked band information is a lot harder to find (or fix). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that HajmeR or others manage to find what we're looking for-maybe I'll even give it a go.
The question is whether LTE bands are only locked in software on your device or whether there really is a reason in hardware (missing antennas and such) that prevents you from using your preferred bands. People seem to disagree on this topic. Some claim that hardware reasons will prevent you from changing the set of allowed bands; however,
with respect to the Honor 6X, it seems that altering the oeminfo partition (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/help/debrand-to-enable-lte-bands-indian-t3663359) can make a difference with respect to allowed LTE bands.
I have a Chinese Honor 10 (COL-AL10) which I rebranded to COL-L29 C432 by adjusting (not completely replacing) oeminfo, more precisely by carefully editing model number etc. Everything works well, but I noticed that the device does not connect to LTE band 20 towers that are in my neighborhood - even though I can connect to them when I put my sim card into a different phone. The Chinese COL-AL10 does not have band 20, so this lock or unavailability of band 20 seems to have survived the rebranding. A real COL-L29 C432 would be able to connect to band 20.
So, to investigate this further, one would have to study the oeminfo partition of a real COL-L29 C432 and investigate where information on the available LTE bands is stored - if this piece of information is hidden in the oeminfo partition. I can share the oeminfo of the COL-AL10 but have to make sure that my IMEI number cannot be extracted from it.
yeah i got my refund already from amazon and looking for a replacement, I don't like phones that are 72 mm or wider they are hard to hold, so my view 10 is tough at 75 mm..........the lg g7 is only 71 mm wide and 6.1 screen which is incredible but VERY pricey and it's LG, we know how they are on updates of ANY kind. I have the P20 lite too, which get's every single band in the USA on GSM, I don't get why the honor 10 was hampered so much because I'm not gonna buy the more expensive P20 i've used one and they are not nearly as nice feeling as the honor 10, the body is totally different not curved at all on back and feels like crap.
So the search is on, lenovo has an 845 with samsung super AMOLED on amazon for 450 with 6 gig RAM and 64 ROM and all the other bells and whistles edcept it's not glass on back which is actually like. I really really wanted the nokia 6.1 plus which is perfect in every way except once again 1,3,5, bands only LOL. So not go again. The Xiaomi A2 lite is interesting, metal back, 4000 ma battery which is insanely big, but then only 2.4 wifi and microusb LOL? 625 processor but only 200 bucks so really a good value and get's every band like the p20 lite.

I just happened to trade my Samsung Galaxy S7 to Honor 10 andit happens to be that what you're looking for. Can you help me out to help you how to get that information.
I uploaded screenshot where to check its correct build.
Hope this camera beats Galaxy S7 as thats the only reason to change phone at the first place.

Do you have an unlocked bootloader? Otherwise, you cannot read out the oeminfo partition.
I'm sorry I don't have it right now. Maybe I'll root this later on then or can I lock the bootloader again?

Wouldn't you need to pay a third party to unlock it at this point? Or do you keep an unlock code obtained earlier from the days when huawei handled bootloader unlocking? Just wondering. I've kind of learned to suck it up at this point since I'm no longer in the US, so the band issues only affect me when traveling back. However, if there is anyone out there with an unlocked bootloader that can share the oeminfo/know how to understand it, it would be nice to finally figure out if this really is a hardware issue or a software lock.
