i have a cellphone repair store and am addicted to new cellphones and trying them out. i currently have the i9300 and love it, but am wondering if there would be anyway to hack it to receive 3g/4g T-Mobile USA. I have switched over back to T-Mobile because they have the best speed for money and coverage ratio where i live. I also have the galaxy note sgh i717 and have it rooted and running ics with the blaze radio hack and it works beautifully on T-Mobile. So what im asking is, will there be a way to flash a radio the same way it was done on the note for the i9300? i really like the way my phone is and prefer the quad core over the dual core that will be coming out here in the us. I don't want to have to sell my international i9300 to get the USA T-Mobile version just so i can have working 3g/4g. Im Hoping for a answer yes you can flash a radio and someone can try to do it. I wish i had more time to play around with these things and be more knowledgable about what im saying, but with my job and two kids i try to learn as much as possible.
Nope. The hardware for the international version doesn't support LTE. Unless you're a superDev and manage mod the system on a chip support it, you'll have to use the US version to get 4G.
It's only the the main reason that the US version isn't getting the quad core. Not that the S4 + 2Gb of memory isn't just as good if not better than the exynos.

What about the hspa+ or even 3g on T-Mobile. I can't see the note that has the same bands as the i9300 being able to do that why not the i9300?? I guess maybe I'm missing something?? Cause the only thing missing is the 1700 band. From both phones and they added it to the att note somehow

He's not asking about LTE, he's asking about getting T-Mobile 3G. I'd like to know if this is possible as well....

No.
The AT&T Note has an SoC that has the 1700mhz band. It is the same SoC that is in the T-Mobile SGSII.
The international Note has the same SoC as the i9100 and i9300 and it does NOT have the 1700mhz band, and it never will.
The only way is when tmo start reusing the 1900 frequency for 3g later this year.
Apparently they are trying it out in some places already.

Haha yeah it is much better. I have been using mine on T-Mobile and 2G isn't the worst thing in the world, especially when I'm around wifi all day long at school and home, and you can't even get the T-Mobile versions anywhere here.

here is an interesting link showing these 1900 locations coming up http://www.airportal.de/
I don't think there is any hack or mods, just have to wait for T-Mobile to expand their 1900mhz coverage.
Luckily, I'm in the area where T-Mobile offers 1900mhz coverage and I can connect to hspa+ on my i9300. It's so much faster than what I'm used to when I was on AT&T. I was only getting 0.5-1.5mbps on AT&T but now 5-6mbps on T-Mobile. When I'm in area that lacks coverage, I do get only EDGE though which is pretty darn slow

Unlimited 4G plan with no cap or throttle.
I'm probably going to switch i9300 to new tmobile branded note 2 or S3 though. There is no coverage of 1900mhz when I'm around home area. Using EDGE is so painful...

Yeah.. I'm using the 200 Mb data plan with my i9300. Since we only getting edge for now , it is a waste of paying 25 dollars a month for 4g if we can't use the speed.. I'm in New York Brooklyn , and still can't get any 3g signals...

Brooklyn new york here . in nyc ATT is the fastest for mobile data no question about it. I get an average of 6 mbit/s . some times up to 11 mbit/s I tried t mobile and the best i got was edge. under 100 kbit/s could barely make calls. I dont know about other cities or regions but in nyc ATT is king even though they suck .
You'll never get more than 2G. Unless you're in one of the new areas where they have out their new towers. You'll get 2G most of the time... There isn't a "hack" and there never will be... Its a hardware limitation.

The Sprint rep doesn't know what he is talking about. If people keep sending requests to Sprint for information trying to grasp for straws, someone is bound to mess up and tell the wrong thing. If anything I believe the tweeter meant to say that it supports 800/1900 MHz for voice only.
Just accept that the Note 3 is single band LTE and that there will be no further hardware modifications to the phone to enable other LTE band support.
The Note 3 has been handling 1900 LTE like a champ in my opinion..I have 4G in my house and in my office.Never drops to 3G ever in either of those to locations. And out on the road I see 4G more than I ever have on my HTC One..I'm a happy camper and don't see a problem at 1900 until 800 becomes more widely available in Florida..
But the rep is probably confusing it with SMR

The 4g on my note 3 goes in and out. I can wake the phone and as soon as I do the 4glte icon disappears and the 3g icon pops up. No stable 4g connection at all. Haven't been able to test the speeds because of this. Now my gs4 is sitting right by my note 3 and it has full 4g getting speeds up to 24mbps. Yet the note 3 is still only showing 3g. Both on the same prl. Both has lte enabled.

Yea but like myself and most other it's just a risk that im not planning to take with the note 3 on a single band cuz one day you will never know when would that band get clutter up with other customers. See for me in Miami in the city im struggling to pull 5mbps down on my note 2 at work and 2mbps down at my house which to me its useless.
I woul wait for the LG G2 but no sd card slot and non removable battery and 5.2 inch screen is a big deal breaker im already used to the nice big screens can't just downgrade that easily so what I'm planning to do is get the note 3 on Tmobile for 14days try it out in all the area's that im at the most because so far I seen nothing but good results with lte and hspa speeds in the Miami area from couple of friends plus I'm always switching phones every couple of months so jump would be great for me.

In regards to the Note 3 not having tri band capabilities would you still purchase this phone if you lived in my area?

It is single band because right naw, the 800mhz band is not LTE, hence single band of 1900. Once LTE is deployed on 800mhz we should be picking it up off that frequency, too, right? That is my understanding. If you say that is not how it works could you please source some info as to why it will not work.

I think a G2 is now in order.
I barely get 3G at work, so I don't care about that. My concern is when I'm hanging out and want to get online and have to crawl with everyone else in 1.9Ghz. I'm sure tri-band will not have a lot of devices for a few years until everyone upgrades.
Plus, since I have SERO plan, I upgrade on contract pricing, hence I don't want to be stuck with a device not capable, I'll hate myself for 2 years...

From what I understand based on FCC docs and what it says in the box, the radios are not included. There's been examples where the radios are not "included" in the docs or advertisements yet an update enabled the radio.
There are smarter people than me on the forum who would better answer that question. From where I sit, if they just did a refresh of the Galaxy S4 for Sprint to include tri-band in the FCC about 2 days ago, I expect the same will need to happen for the Note 3.

As I mentioned above, it was most likely something they planned to implement, but didn't have time to finish. Go check out the 900P thread @ S4GRU for more info on this.
Edit - What I'm saying is that there is no hardware for Band 26 or 41 LTE.

This was also touched upon in the thread I mentioned above. It was an entirely different situation with the N4 and this gets brought up several times in the thread. The N900P doesn't have the needed hardware.
Here - http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4318-samsung-galaxy-note-3/
PS - Also worth noting is that the S4 will be rereleased as SPH-L720T and will support tri band LTE. Current S4 phones will not support this and who knows, maybe there will be a N900PT aka a Note 3 rerelease in the future that will support tri band LTE.
Proof - http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-356-teaser-samsung-galaxy-s4-2-3/
Edit - If I had to guess, I'd say Sprint will never actually announce the SPH-L720T, but rather will start selling it when they run out of SPH-L720 stock. As for future Note 3 with tri band being released? I have no idea and I doubt it, but I'll obviously be searching the FCC website for new Samsung devices on a daily basis

No you cannot. The Note 4 only has 1 radio whereas there are 2 in the Note 3. That's why users that have the Note 3, such as myself, can be on a phone call and search the web at the same time on LTE. That is one of the reasons I have yet to upgrade. I actually use this feature a lot and Sprint did away with it in exchange for clearer voice calls and faster data speeds. I may get the Note 5 regardless if the specs I've read about come to fruition.

Actually all spark phones are completely capable of simultaneous voice and data as long as they're on the spark network. If only on regular 4G/3G then your statement is correct. I too made the uninformed mistake of upgrading to the S5 only to immediately switch to the best non-spark phone I could (note 3). Sprint says they had to remove the secondary radio that allowed simultaneous v/d due to the power requirements of the faster spark chips in order to conserve battery. Either way I don't have spark in my area yet so it was a no brainer to switch.

I got about 70 mbps with ATT in an area that I only got 30 to 40mbps with my Note 3.
Im on tmobile and I'm actually having the reverse. I upgraded from a Note 3 and when I run speed tests in the same places that I did with my note 3, the 6p is on average 50% slower. Can't be because of the lack of band 12 because the note 3 didn't have that band. Hmmm
It seems Sprint just updated the network today. I'm in San Antonio TX, I've always compromised service for price but if this stays consistent then I'll finally have both.
