Samsung s8 storage problem !!!!!!! Help me please ;_; - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys I am very new here. I created an account for this problem.
My Internal Storage says that im already occupying 51.89 gb out of 64. So Im wondering why is that since i dont have much movies and games in it.
Then i checked my internal storage and checked it's overall data via highlighting all files and folders and clicking details it said 28.81 gb overall.
SO I DONT REALLY KNOW WHERE THAT PRECIOUS 30 GB IS ! SOMEBODY HELP ME. IM LITERALLY CRYING RN.
Was searching someone who has the same problem but i cant find one ;_;
Update:
Just found out the storage breakdown (Lel pretty dumb sorry)
System Memory: 10.02 gb
Used Space: 24.48 gb
Other: 16.93 gb
cached data: 1.94 mb
Is it normal that the used space is separated from the "Other" AFAIK the used space is everything in the internal storage. Now whenever i select the other it also leads me to the internal storage so I am Very confused. I need Halp

Internal Storage Question

From what I understand, the 8GB of internal storage on the DX2 is divided into 2GB for apps, 4.3GB free to do whatever with, and the rest for Android. Right now out the 4.3GB of free storage I have ~800MB unused, which implies I've used 3.5GB. However, when I connect my phone to my PC and scan the contents of that 4.3GB of free storage, it shows that there is only 2.2GB of data on there. Where is the remaining 1.3GB and is there any way I can access/delete it to free up space?
I thought around 2gb was set aside for application storage.
I have no idea how much stuff u have on ur internal storage but u may want to move storage for pictures and.music to external storage..u can just move music files and the DCIM folder to external sd card and reboot which should free up some space...also try clearing cache from stock recovery to see what that frees up if u have never done that...
also in camera app settings to make ur pics store directly to sd card there is a setting for that so u don't have to manually move them...
Hy Drippis Welcome to the forums,
First off let me say if you want to solve a problem with your phone if you follow what ashclepdia says you'll never go wrong he has a great deal of knowledge on these phone's.
Second I never liked this type of labeling system for the storage on this phone.
Third a short explanation of the storage on our phone's.
Our phone has the following, according to VZW and Moto:
- 8GB of internal storage. This breaks down as 2 GB secure memory and 6 GB of usable memory.
- 8GB of external storage which refers to the removable SD card behind the battery.
In the 2 GB lives the Android system files and installed applications with most of their associated data. Some programs are accustomed to using the "sd card" which I will get back to in a minute. You can look at the status of this 2 GB in 2 different ways: 1. Settings - Storage - Application storage, "Available Space"; 2. Settings - Applications - Storage Use - All - Application Storage (on the bottom of the screen).
The 6 GB can be viewed by: 1. Settings - Storage - Internal Storage; 2. Settings - Applications - Storage Use - Media Area.
When you move things to the Media area, you are taking a portion of the installed app from the 2GB and moving it to the 6GB, which is similar to the way in tho older phones, you moved apps to the SD card. So, the question is why do we move apps to the SD card? In older phones there was far less "internal storage" and you would literally run low on memory for apps. New phones have much more space, so unless you are installing lots and lots of apps, it shouldn't be a problem.
With our phone, they have included internal, hard wired, SD Card-like storage, which can be used, mounted/unmounted, just like an external SD Card. The Media Area is simply a folder on this remaining 6 GB area. In some cases, this is automatically done by some apps, for backup purposes or caches.
Hope this is of some value 2u..

These aren't the droids you're looking for.
Thanks for the responses. Although informative, they didn't answer my primary question so let me clarify. Not enough storage isn't the problem. I've already set up and moved all my pictures, movies, music, etc. to my 32 GB external sd card. My issue lies with the 4.3 GB of free-to-do-as-you-please storage on the internal sd card.
Out of this 4.3 GB
I've used 2.2 GB
And it says I have .8 GB free
Which leaves 1.3 GB missing
I guess I'll boot into recovery and wipe cache to see if that does much.
Not sure if this matters with regard to this issue, but I had been running P3's pre-rooted GB since I got this phone and earlier this week I flashed Eclipse 1.3 (loving it). I did wipe data before applying the zip.

I CAN say that if u are running 1.3 eclipse on p3s GB u are on the wrong kernel and that may cause some problems ...
not sure if that's what's causing this issue for u or not. .
also when on eclipse the sdcard and internal storage are flip flopped. to see what space u have on internal storage go to settings>storage>sdcard....that is ur internal storage space when on eclipse....
bootstrap does not recognize that flip tho fyi....
my first recommendations is getting on the 2.3.4 kernel by sbf to 2.3.4
if u flashed 1.3 over p3droids rooted gb then u are still on 2.3.3 kernel ..
which can cause issues...since any eclipse 1.0 or later needs u to have the 2.3.4 kernel...only way to change kernel is sbf or OTA update.
there is a sticky on how to sbf in this forum...don't be intimidated...it is very simple...follow instructions ...
edit::: how bout a screenshot of ur storage setting screen and also ur about.phone screen.((screen shot er (or er2) from market works just fine))
Look in a file manager and see if you have a file named ".trash-1000" or something similar. If you are viewing your files on a PC, it will be a hidden folder. See if you have any files in there. When you delete something it creates a .trash folder and keeps it on your storage device like the recycle bin does on your PC. I think its supposed to "empty" itself but may not have. If you have files on there, you can just delete the whole .trash folder. Just a thought.

[Q] Low internal memory

Hi all,
I've just received my HTC desire x, checking the specs there is written
that the internal memory should be 4GB, but I have just 1GB.
the total space shows 1.09 GB (screenshot attached)
on the HTC website there's written
Total storage: 4 GB, available capacity varies*
and then *Available storage is less due to phone software.
Is it possible that the OS takes 3GB? Seems a bit too much for me...
Any idea?
Thanks all in advance

This is correct man. There is no issue or problem. The system takes ~3gb. Cos imagine when you are factory resetting your phone. The original OS file (called ROM) will reside in that memory with a whole lot of other backup stuff which you cant access.
This is why ppl use CUSTOM ROMS, cos we remove bloatware and other things.
What you see in that screenshot is same as mine and as other. Just buy an external card and it will rock
and please go to about > software update > PRESS CHECK NOW even though "Scheduled Check" is ticked cos there are updates and possibly u have one waiting also.

^ +1.
anyway i cant see why 1gb isnt enough for apps and games. if you have a sd card, it will be more than enough because of the ability to move apps to sd.

Thanks man all doubts vanished now,
does it mean that once rooted (I haven't seen any good rom around yet, please advise if you know any)
I can partition the internal memory? Or it's better not to partition anything for a smoother and faster phone?
Thanks again
Yes 4GB in these mount points:
dev - 303MB
cache - 251MB
data 1,1GB
internal memory (emmc) - 1,1GB
system/942MB
Plus a few more like radio boot and / mount point. It's up around 4GB.
i think you want this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD
with that app. you will no longer have to worry about low internal storage again. i use that all the time on my previous phone who has low internal memory (400mb below). but with des x i dont need it. 1gb internal memory are a lot!

Is it possible to reformat partitions? Why not to have internal memory (emmc) - 1,1GB and system/942MB merged? I'm not using emmc, cuz I have SDCard for all my stuff, so 1,1 Gb are empty, but I have insufficient space on system.

THL W100 Where did my internal storage gone?

hi
i have an un rooted THL W100 since 2 months.
it works great except i has only about 50 mega left in the internal storage.
Now, it suppose. to have 4 GB ROM.
what i actually have according to android system, (and other apps) is 2 GB of ''phone storage'' (internal sd for data), and 0.9 GB of ''phone storage'' for the system.
(i also have an 16GB micro SD card, which is only 50% full, and that is also my ''default'' for data writing).
Now, out of my 0.9 GB, only 450 MB is used, but i have a ''low storage''massage ,and all the storage apps indicate that i have only 50 MB left.x
So where did the other 500 MB out of the 0.9, gone?
(and where is the missing 1Gb from the 4GB ROM, for that matter).?
i shifted all the shiftable Apps to the SD Card.
and i have only very small size apps in the ''phone only'' section.
i also cleaned all the cash and data, that i could.
i try to attach some screen shots.
also, the phone crashes some times, i think because it is almost full (it crashes very little when i try to un install some apps to free memory).
pls. help
W100 owner ?
hi
2 days without comment.
if you are a w100 owner, can you pls.
post here how much storage (both for data, and system), you have total (according to ''setting''- ''storage'' - like my 'black' pic attached ) , how much you have used, and how much you have left.
this way i will be able to locate my problem.
thanks a lot.

try cleaning cache and dalvik cache
and double check is there any file on internel use any explorer apps
thanks a lot friend sangalaxy
The cash is cleared many times.
I am a beginner so i read just now about dalvik chache.
If i understand Correctly, since my phone is unrooted, i can clean it only from recovery, which in my case is still not usable because its in chinese.
I will install CWM soon, and then...
About your last remark, about files being Used, i am sorry, i don't understand, but my low mem. Condition is since 2 weeks, so mabe that answere it ?
I will try to post 2 new pics of info.
I see in them that i do have almost 0.5 '' internal ''data'' folder , and almost 0.5 of ''system'' folder , full.
If the system, and data, are 2 different folders, then i do have my 0.9 of internal storage.
Is it so?
Then there is no ''missing'' storage space.
Just 2 full half gig spaces.
Is it so?
Then i just need yo find how to clear some
Thanks again.
My phone is 8G ROM, but can use only 3.2G, what procedures are occupied so much memory?
the 500mb is mysteriously missing
i have compared my pics to my other phone, and it seems like the black pic of my internal storage is telling the story.
if you add the green (apps), and the cache, and the grey (''available space''), you should get the total which is 0.9 gb.
and i am getting only about 500 mb.
i have now only about 70mb. left available , instead of 570mb.
So 500mb IS missing !
WHERE ??
End of the story factory rest
Hi
After I could not find a solution, I did a factory data rest, and that seem to solve my problem.
I reinstall all my apps and now I have 500mb. Space available, instead of only 50mb.
I don't know what was the problem, but its gone for now.
Thanks.

[Q] LiFe 0.9 eating my storage

Question moved from General. Hope the other thread will get deleted quickly.
A lot more details added in another thread.
I installed LiFe 0.9 and have a problem with internal memory. While total partition size is 1006,90 MB, files are taking up 8,96 MB, I have only 109,69 MB available (897,21 MB used). And that's a result after wiping data partition day before. Previously had exact same problem, but files were taking more than 100 MB. I wanted to test wiping it and see what happens. Just after wiping. about 200 MB were used by this mysterious something. Then I installed some apps and I can't install them any more (insufficient storage). Clean Master doesn't help. Do any of you know what is happening?
When researching this I found that people with similar problems (and mostly samsung devices) do "delete dumpstate/logcat" but I can't do this and I don't have log folder on media partition.
Somewhere I also read that on those samsung devices flashing another modem prevents it from happening, and since my WiFi signal is weaker than on my nexus and blade I thought of doing that before. Is worth the effort?
What is happening and how to deal with that?
On a sidenote: I don't plan to use internal memory for my own files like mp3s, movies, books etc (have memory card for that). Can't I just merge those internal partitions? I don't see a point in them being separate.
Memory issues
I took me a while to figure mine out, to merge memory partions in the settings but does get a bit confusing to start with because memory card now becomes main storage and internal becomes memory card, if you can understand!! What I mean is default storage for apps is now internal sd you use in what ever apps you use. That's what you use hopefully screen shots explain

Unbelievable much system memory

After installing Lineage Os the System takes 36 GB of the internal Storage. Does Anybody have this Problem or better a solution to fix it?

It's a known bug in all Los based rooms, the amount of space shown taken up is incorrect. You should have noticed that when it says system is using 36GB on a 32GB phone lol. Instead of showing true system space used it shows total space used on phone memory (internal memory) plus what's used on your ext SD card. Mine shows 96GB used for system, so don't pay attention to it. Los actually only uses about 1GB of space. If you want get a root file browser and check for yourself
THX jeffsga88, didn't know this Bug, but that explains everything. :good:
