Internal memory size - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

I had my internal memory messed up after restoring a nandroid backup and was showing 28GB in size when connected to PC. After wiping the internal memory via TWRP, the problem was fixed. But I forgot what was the actual size of internal memory
Can someone tell me what size shows up on PC when RN4 is connected via USB?

Mine says 23.4GB of storage. it is 32gb version

28.5 left on 52.1GB (its a 64GB version)

internal Storage

QUESTION
the size of my internal storage is 11.4GB (which is 12GB from 16GB, so the phone uses the 4GB as system)
BUT when i format it, it says only 10GB (9.9GB to be exact) is available.
WHY? and what is using the 1.5GB rest of the storage?
Can it be cleaned up?
Another Question
So, as you can see i did a full format of internal storage to START OVER CLEAN
and i copied every thing to "A folder" in my external memory
BUT after i formated the internal memory i went to the External memory to find that my folder turned into a NON recognizable sort of file with 0kb of size.
the memory size shows that my files are in there but WHERE?
my little girl's birthday videos and pictures are in there so i really really need them back.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

No idea what you are doing but to recover files you can try RECUVA .
Looks like you formatted external sd card .
jje
Take the card out and plug it into your computer.
(Or use my Usb mass-storage mode scripts around here somewhere if you're rooted, it makes no difference)
This is a known issue with the phone and exFAT, Fat32 seems to work fine.
Should the file really be damaged (and not only non-readable by the phone) you can use Recuva as suggested by the parent.
Thank you Guys for the help, and I GOT the whole thing back.
when i removed external memory and put it in my windows laptop (because i did it with mac the first time) i found the folder there.
i renamed it and put it back in the phone and it was OKEY.
QUESTION THOUGH:
as my first post i did this format to have a clean Empty 12GB of internal memory BUT i end up having less than 10GB even after format.
What is this and why can't i empty the rest?
You can't just format the internal memory as it is using a shared file system with the system. Can you tell us what you did to format it?
Sent from my GT-I9300
i connected it to the computer and did a format.
it was totally fine but it shows the Total size is 11.9GB and after format it still uses about 2GB and says 9.9GB available (2GB used)
the total size of the internal memory is 16GB and 4GB is used by the System but why 2 more is taken from the 12GB too
Probably installed apps. They share the available space with the folder you see as /sdcard/. Check your storage in the settings.

Problem with internal and USB storage

Hi, I'm using a n7000 Slimkat 4.4.4 rom, with slim kernel 3.0.80+ autobuild.
Previously I used link2sd to create a partition on my SD card to get more space on my internal, and after a while I realised my USB storage is being recognised as an SD card. I tried a full wipe and reinstalled my rom but now even the internal storage is messed up. Not even the reformat works anymore
It's too complicated to explain in words so here are the screenshots. So how f**ked am I and how do I salvage this?
Each time I link files into the card (700mb size, it worked previously) it freezes the whole phone
From the storage option I can see this:
1. Internal storage 2GB (normal, nothing wrong with it)
2. Internal storage 11GB (this should be USB storage, and it has a erase SD card option at the end)
3. SD card 2GB (It was 4GB but I used link2sd to create an internal partition. MTP and mass storage is not detected but using card reader it is fine)
4. USB storage (there is only a mount and erase SD card option which is greyed out/unclickable and does not has any space indicator)

there is nothing wrong at all.
just repartition and reformat your sdcard and dont use external sdcards for app storage.

But what about the greyed out USB storage option? I don't remember seeing it in that way

it should be grayed unless you connect usb storage to your phone.

Corrupted internal memory

So a while ago I noticed that when I do a factory reset on my phone, the apps that I HAVE INSTALLED remain installed. Even if I delete them I don't have access to the rest of the memory, I have about 2,4GB free of 4GB. (Note: The phone has and 8GB internal storage, and before I encountered this problem I had access to the 4GB)
Now for the other part. When I connect my phone to my PC, it should show 2 drives well mine doesn't show the second one anymore (which is the internal storage) just the SD one. If I remove the SD and plug my phone back into my PC, it shows the Partition of the internal memory, called G:, but I get this error message, G:/ Is not accessible. Incorrect function. .
I've tried to format it but it doesn't work. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

sdcard0 Listed as 'Portable Storage'

In storage & USB the device storage says 1.27 GB Total used of 10.34 GB. However, Internal sorage says 797 MB used of 2.95GB, whilst sdcard0 is listed under 'Portable storage' and it says 283 MB used of 9.99 GB. I've had to subsequently format the external SD card to use it as internal storage because the internal storage is listed as portable. How to I change the sdcard0 to internal storage?
Help much appreciated,
Inf

Hi,
By any chance was your internal sd encrypted?
If you can access your internal sd via PC, backup all your files onto your PC then format your internal sd using recovery (listed as sdcard0 or internal sd) using the default settings if your are using CWM. Make sure that the filesystem is vfat or fat32.
Saber.

Hi
Just looked into my storage (which is repartioned to 1 gb system and 4 gb data) an saw the following:
the internal storage is 3,94 gb (which must be data)
the rest of the sd0 is listed as portable storage 8,99 gb
also listed as portable storage is the sd1 (which i choosed as external storage on first setting).
so i believe the rest of sd0 (after having partioned) is just called "portable storage" .
in my thinking to make this portable sd0 to internal storage would mean to make it to data partition.
maybe i think completely wrong (and i dont know the size of your partitions)

Sorry I've taken a while to get back. After a lot of trial and error I've realised that both the internal an external SD card partitions were corrupted. I relashed the pit files and reverted back to CWM recovery and reformated all partitions.
The only problem I faced after was after installing CM13 Gapps kept telling me that storage space was still insufficient, even though I had relashed the internal memory with a new pit file.
I've heard that you have to revert back to a stock ROM after flashing the pit before your increased storage is recognised for the installation of Gapps, so I've reverted back to a stock ROM and I'm soon to factory reset and reinstall CM13 to see if the increased partition size is recognised for the Gapps installation. If though I've tried installing Nano Gapps it's given me the insufficient storage error.
I'll keep you posted.

Hi
It does'nt make any sense at all to go back to stock-rom after repartitioning.
Please correct me If i am wrong but i think you are just trying and not following a proper guide for repartitioning and installing cm13.
Do understand your problem and provide help you could give detailed information which exactly Files you flashed in which order and which method.
You are also talking about cwm altough you need isorec recovery twrp 3..... in the process of flashing cm13. Besides in this recovery you can change with lanchons repit tool all repartition-sizes just as you like.

micro sd as internal memory show full from pc and can't restore data

Hi,
In my lgg4 beat I was using a 2GB micro sd as internal memory. As it is full, i back up the data to the PC and put another larger one, but when trying to restore the data from the PC (windows or linux), it sees the memory as "full". From the phone, Android sees the free capacity ok
What is happening? How i can restore data?
