The Galaxy S III unit is certainly big enough. When they said they would improve the battery life on their next Galaxy, I was thinking at least 2,300 mAh. A small gripe, but something to be desired.
I can't complain with 7 hours of screen on time..
How long do you need your phone to last? A bigger battery would always be nice but I'm definitely not complaining. I average around 4-5 hours of screen on time from one charge on complete stock with good brightness. Do we really need more?

The question is, do we really need less? There's already small 4.3" display phones that run over 3,000 mAh. With the size of this unit, they simply could have taken to task their claim of wanting to improve battery life a little more sufficiently. The more powerful these devices get, the more demanding their battery life is.

lol do i miss the days of nokia..my battery used to last almost 4 days. but alas all good things come to an end..its the era of android now nokia iphone and the rest are just old news

The DROID RAZR also has a non-removable battery which probably contributes to that.
Removable or not, it's still been done. I'm not saying this phone should go 3,000+ mAh; as that would sacrifice body thinness, but they probably had more to work with that they didn't utilize.

Possibly, but apparently the general population cares more about thin devices than battery life.
Either way, I'm generally not going to use the phone for 7 hours everyday so it makes no difference to me.
Honestly, I expected less than what I am getting from the battery life, so I am more than happy. You also have to remember, battery life is a big selling point for the next models. I am certain they could have easily tweaked the design/battery and given this phone another 10+ hours standby or something like that, but that limits the sales features for the next model. You want to make your new device good but not so good that the next new model doesn't seem as impressive.

Same. I've been using mine plenty today since 7 in the morning (can't call it heavy usage, but definitely was not "light") and it still has over 60% (its now the end of the day here). Couldn't be happier with the battery.
Well... obviously I could, but I definitely can't complain.
I wish mine was gd too.. but kworker processes are draining my battery life yet no ideas how do resolve yet...
I get 11 hours at 60% yesterday, so that's excellent on stock Rom with all the bloat, sure cm9 Rom at same hours and same use was still 86% and I always leave bt gps wifi and full brightness always on

Probably Samsung will bring an extended battery(+modified back cover) just like they did with the sgs2... having said that I have no problems the battery life with the stock battery

Don't forget The SGS3 battery is 3.8v, whereas the SGS2 battery is 3.7. If you look at the watt hours, SGS3 is just under 8, where as stock 1650mah battery is just over 6. 33% increase in batter size!
I'm rooted and running stock Vodafone rom (OTA update), but I've frozen a lot of the rubbish (and installed siyah kernel!). I'm getting very good battery life with 3-5 hours of screen on. Basically, it's not ever once not "got me through the day", even when I first got the phone and I was abusing it.
Standby times could be slightly better, and there are some other issues that are draining battery (fast dormency is a pain in da ass!!), but considering the SGS3 is fresh out the battery life is amazing!
When I use the internet I'm using about 12% of the battery per hour which is pretty damn good and fairly close to S2 so I've got no complaints, and the last update made a noticeable improvement on battery, but the only real complaint is the battery takes over 2 and a half hours to charge so more than ever I do need a spare battery for those times I get caught short on charge.
I noticed a big improvement in battery life with the stock rom I9300XXALF6 + modem I9300XXLF5. Using only for calls, on average, by 10 hours consumes 10% of the battery.
This battery is big and enough for day to day use but when i want to watch some episodes I'm always carrying a backup charger.

Some here - 1 hour/1% with moderate use (a few calls, messages, random goofing). (att, stock rom, int. version, sync off, auto brightness)

Do battery cases exist in the nexus 6 world?
I've searched a lot and couldn't find any.
I've really had it with the battery life of this phone, a battery case would save me from going back a 6 plus.
Tons of way to optimize battery, most people get a couple days worth and you probably could too with a simple Google search. There's no battery cases for this phone, it's too big and too niche.

Battery life when you use the phone is pretty bad IMO. It drops pretty fast once it gets below 50%. I highly doubt mods and tweeks will get you the battery life of the 6+, maybe closer to the note 4

I've been to the battery life thread in general. You're talking like there's some magic fix to make this phone match the 6+'s battery life, there isn't. I'm a very heavy user and I accept this phone's battery is average at best, that's why I was looking for a battery case.

As for the battery life, do a little research and educate yourself on how to manage efficiency, you can easily get more battery life than the typical 6+

The nexus 6 has obvious battery shortcomings that are well documented in the general section, one thread has over 200 pages of complaints. If you're such a guru why don't you go there and share your 'optimizations' so we all can benefit from it? Do they include turning off the phone? Lol

if you think battery life is bad with this device, then i dont recommend trying a LG G3 or LG G Flex 2, they have horrible battery life, like maybe 2 hours screen on time if your lucky. the G2 had the best IMO. so coming to the Nexus 6 was a pleasant surprise when i get around 4-5 hours of SOT
I'm pretty content with that battery life. Google made changes in 5.1 kernel to improve it some more by turning off a Qualcomm "feature" and just having the 4 cores on all the time. My wife has the 6+ with a mophie case. I personally don't see much difference in battery life between the 2 phones. We both come home from work with about the same amount of battery left. Mine is a little less when I have yo go to a part of the hospital that gets poor reception. I've never thought to myself. OMG I need to bring my cable to work. Just the other day I forgot to charge my phone over night and had 43% left. Plugged it into a 2.1 amp charger while I got ready for work. Hooked it up to my turbo charger in the car and voila. 90% by the time I made it to work 30 minutes later.
I get that the battery life can be piss poor. I haven't done any "optimizations". You can try rooting and installing Franco kernel or some other kernel if you want to give it a shot though. I feel like battery cases are for those worried about battery life while going camping or something. I would just turn on power save mode at that point.

Agreed. It's so frustrating to be told that optimization can solve the problem from someone who probably lives under a cell tower and has never needed a 10,000mAh battery. Out here on the fringe, bouncing in and out of service on the farm, my 9,000 mAh on my G3 barely got me through the day. I don't want to have to find a charger at noon or 8 pm, I want a phone that works from 6 am until 10 pm when I get home. I've made huge improvements with optimization, but no tweaking is going to get my N6 past noon on the farm, so don't say that we're silly or unreasonable when we want to duct tape a car battery to our phones to get through the day.

I just ordered a Anker 10,000mAh external battery and I will glue it to the phone protective cover. Let's see how it will work, the battery is smaller than the phone so it will only add some thickness and of course, weight.

Sounds like you should stick to phones with a removable battery. Why would you get a phone with a 3220mah embedded battery when the ZL on your G3 wasn't enough? Even if a company did come out with a battery case, which isn't happening, it would never be anywhere near as big as that.

As someone who is eagerly waiting battery case I agree, if a G3 battery with ZL extended case is not sufficient neither will a battery case. Battery cases charge significantly slower than charging them through the wall. I had one for my m8 and Nexus 5.

Not to mention you lose 30% of the capacity of the case just through the inefficiencies of USB charging. So he would need a ~7500mah battery case to really have a comparable capacity overall. Which has never been made before for any phone with an embedded battery AFAIK.

He said that he gets crap service, which does impact battery life. Perhaps looking into another carrier. Verizon and At&t tend to have better coverage. If the price is a deterrent then he should look into an MNVO and probably stick with the g3
I don't understand how people aren't able to get through a day on a single charge (unplugging around 8am) when I'm able to do it with ease working 8-10hrs while my phone is constantly searching and jumping between no signal and poor 3g/LTE. Having Wi-Fi helps but I'm able to get through the day without it while at work. It was no different with the Note 2, original Moto X, and G3 over the past 2 years.
If you're on the fringe of service areas, perhaps consider a range extender? If you get poor reception where you spend most of your time on a daily basis, perhaps consider a different carrier? It's unfair to complain about battery life because all phones will suffer if you're usually in areas where your carrier doesn't provide good coverage. Other than that, consider a different phone that better suits your needs (i.e. removable batteries) as suggested above or invest in a portable charger. I rarely ever need to use my portable charger but I always have it with me. With larger capacities in slimmer form factors at lower prices, there really is no excuse for a power user to not have one.
What kind of battery life are you guys getting? Total and screen on time.
I was thinking of getting this phone for my wife, who could care less about root, but I heard the Snapdragon version has pretty poor battery life compared to exynos. That could be a deal-breaker.

I'm a fairly heavy user of my phone. Using it has a hotspot for work, email, listening to music, watching YouTube, etc etc. I unplug my phone at 6AM when I leave the house. Usually, by 1-2 PM, I am down to around 30-35%. I don't really manage my apps, but I do occasionally go to the recent apps and clear them out.
I owe a note 3 with a 9600mAh battery that lasts up to three days. I bought the S7 Edge thinking it would last at least one day. Well...it doesn't. Best I get is 9 hrs. So by 5:00 pm I have to charge phone. Which led me to my decision to return phone. A phone that doesn't last a day is not ok. Hope the note 6 has better battery life.

Wow, big difference vs. what those with Exynos are saying. I'm seeing up to 2 days and 7 hrs screen on time for the Exynos S7 edge...
I use mine with LTE and GPS always on, I'm getting 14 hours with about 6 hours screen time.
Optimized will last much longer, but I don't like being limited on the features just to save battery if it already lasts a day.
beezar, where can you buy the Exynos model. If you're getting that much battery life, then i must have that phone. I can still return my Edge.

I'm saying those with Exynos are reporting incredible battery life. I doubt the Exynos version works for Sprint without some major tweaking, and even then maybe not ever.
It's sad that the Snapdragon battery life is so much worse

SD820 with Android System/OS as highest battery drain
So, in the main S7 forum, it was discovered that the Snapdragon S7 versions (such as Sprint's) have the highest battery usage coming from Android System/OS, whereas for the Exynos S7 version, it's Screen. This leads directly to the Exynos having MUCH better battery life than the Snapdragon.
Either it's a bug in the software used on Snapdragon S7's (hopefully), or its the inherent inefficiency of the Snapdragon chip. Any which way, some people are tweeting Samsung USA to put pressure on them to look into this issue. We should all put pressure on Samsung to fix this. Hopefully it is a software issue that is easily corrected and which will lead to much better battery life for the Snapdragon S7's.
Battery life since update?
Any improvement in battery life after the Sprint update? What kind of stats (on-battery and screen-on times) are you guys getting after the update?
Some people are reporting much worse battery life. Mine seems to be about the same (very good) as it was before.
I had a severe CPU drain issue once after the update. I had a theme loaded during the update and at one point the phone lagged so badly it took almost a minute just to swap between apps. (I don't keep more than 5 apps running at a time - usually Twitch, CoC, and Facebook). Never had issues before the update, but it's only happened once so far.
Battery life seems unchanged. I don't use haptic feedback ever (not a fan) and keep screen brightness limited to what I feel is necessary (usually between 25-30% brightness) for the day.
I keep GPS turned off and am on LTE for 8-10 hours a day and listen to Twitch (audio only majority) for 6-8 of those hours.
In the end, my S7 lasts from 6am to 3pm on a single charge with Twitch streaming on LTE with about 20% screen on during that time. While at home on WiFi, I can easily get 2 days out of a single charge with casual use (personal choice).

Rooted mine and battery life is crappy, though it wasn't great before either I think it's about the same or probably even a little bit worse on stock but maybe it's just me. I get like a little over 2 hours screen on time with 9% left on mostly wifi so I know for a fact that something is wrong. Standby time is also awful.
Android kernel and os draining more battery than my screen lol definitely should not be happening.

I'm really impressed by the battery on the A7. I've had 3.5 hours of sot and 20% left even after caning it with DS Audio, 4 hours of internet radio, 50 photos plus editing and lots of surfing.
Doze is extraordinary. Check out last night's battery consumption (I really must get to bed earlier).
Best battery life on a phone that I've had so far.....Well, since smartphones. I had some flip phones that could last a week.
It seems to be a bit better than the Nexus 6P I came from. Definitely not as good as the Oneplus One, much better than the Moto X Pure.

The main thing I've noticed is that this phone doesn't get excessively hot which seems to kill the battery very fast (both issues I've had with almost every smartphone owned: Nexus 6p and Oneplus One included). Apps that use GPS, camera use, gaming etc don't seem to get the phone as hot and this seems to correlate with better battery life under use. The only time I feel the phone warming up is if I'm using the Quickcharge charger while doing something else. It's barely warm though.
If I babied my Oneplus One (Sultans ROM) I managed to get 8 hours SOT which was crazy but it didn't charge the way the Axon 7 does and it certainly wouldn't have coped with the stress I'm putting on the Axon 7. I remember things like constant GPS + Spotify + Bluetooth would mean my Oneplus One wouldn't be able to charge as fast as the battery was being drawn. Not an issue at all with the Axon 7.

I agree on all points. This is one of the coolest running phones I've ever used. Only thing I've done that creates noticeable heat other than charging is +30 minute phone calls on Bluetooth in car. And it charges unbelievably fast. Very happy!
Got ,5 and a half hours yesterday. I honestly average 5 hours. Battery life has improved significantly with this smart power voodoo on. It doesn't affect performance unlike it does on tw.
I notice more apps are closed in background when I have smart power on.. Like I'll be able to have about 5-10 apps open with smart power on.. But 15-25 with it off.
I get an extra hour sot with smart power on.
And I took quite a few pictures that day.. Totally thought I was going to toast my battery.. But it held up better than any of my samsung devices..
The Axon ZTE 7 A2017 has the most smart power!!! I dont have to worry for the whole day charging my Monster!!!

Agree! On at 6:30 am and still at 86% - light use. 1 phone call, a few texts and 10 or so minutes checking the news. My note would have been 70-75% by midday with about the same use. Power save mode on both phones. Very happy with this phone.

Sounds like you've got a rogue app in three background that's forcing your CPU to max out and keeping it there even when not in use. There were a couple kernels on the oneplus one (including stock) with bugs like that, but it's not a kernel issue with the axon because otherwise others would have seen this. I'm betting it's a bad app.
I had just installed Kayak. Battery back up now. I'll see if I can reproduce the issue.
I cannot see the usage of apps. Any solution? I also can't see it in the system battery settings.
My buddy has this phone and literally flawless. i mean it works. it lasts. its powerful. has amazing SQ. and im over here with a friggin note 7 barely squeezing 16 hours out of it with3-4 hours DOT/SOT.
Not to mention XDA and everyone gets it wrong. its a 3250mah battery not a 3140mah

The battery on my a7 lasts over a day with regular use, no gaming or heavy video watching but do cruze the net and google + that's my take on the battery

The battery on my a7 lasts over a day with regular use, no gaming or heavy video watching but do cruze the net and google + that's my take on the battery

I use spotify or pandora via BT. we drove the same distance. same time etc. i lost 17% he lost 5%. both were fresh rebooted and waited 10 minutes. closed all apps and screen NOT in use. no wifi no nfc no nothing.
Can't wait for the battery life to further improve with android 7.1 and maybe even eventually a custom kernel
I'm getting minimum 6hrs of screen on time and i'm very satosfied with this performance
I've not seen any discussion on battery life since the launch of the Note 10. Would people please share:
1. How is it now that there's been time for Samsung to fix early issues
2. Did Android 10 upgrade help?
3. Does it last through a day of heavy use?
4. Snapdragon or Exynos?
More info: I'm considering buying the Note 10 but the original reviews are mixed. Some say battery life is good but most say it's disappointing. It would be to replace an iPhone XS that is 12 months old, battery health is a shocking 84% and the SoT time is less than 3 hours, so I won't be buying any more overpriced junk from Apple. I'm in the UK so would be getting the Exynos unless I take a risk and grey import a Snapdragon, and live without the warranty.
More battery life is *always* better, but I really have no complaints about my Note 10 battery. It lasts all day, every day. I average 5.5 hours SOT, but it would get a lot more if I pushed it below 10% charge. However, I rarely let it drop below 30%, or fully charge to 100%. I try to take it off the charger between 60-80% to preserve long-term battery life. So while 5.5 hours SOT may seem low to other Note users, I am averaging 5.5 hours SOT from only a 50-70% charge, which is pretty damn good imo.
I disabled some apps that I'll never use, but otherwise I don't need to gimp it to make it through the day. I noticed a slight improvement in battery life with Android 10. I don't do much gaming, but I do a lot of web browsing, YouTube, and listen to Google Play Music and Sirius XM, and it has no problems lasting a full day.
I have the Snapdragon model. I don't have any experience with the Exynos model, but if you are in the UK, then I would recommend going with Exynos just for the warranty. There may be some YouTube videos comparing the battery and performance differences, you may want to look for those. I remember a couple of years ago the Exynos models were noticeably worse as far as battery, but I think the latest Exynos chips have closed the gap.
If battery life is a top priority, then you should consider the Note 10+ which has 23% larger battery (4300 vs 3500 mAh).
One last thing to consider: The Galaxy S20 models are right around the corner. I am not trying to talk you out of a Note, but if you can live without the Spen, you might want to wait for the Galaxy S20 Plus and Ultra. The Plus model is supposed to have a 4500 mAh battery, and the Ultra is rumored to have a massive 5000 mAh battery.
Edit: Btw, congrats on graduating from iOS. You'll love the customizability of Android, and now that RCS is available, you won't miss iMessage as much :good:

Thanks for taking the time to reply - appreciate it. Sounds like our usage patterns are similar. I don’t really game but I use web and media on public transport for a couple of hours a day, in poor signal areas so every phone I’ve had struggles.
Am trying to keep phone size down, the Note 10 Plus is definitely too big! I like the fact that with the standard Note 10 it’s almost the same size as my current iPhone XS, just 5mm taller.
Re graduating (haha) I’ve had android before. Before this iPhone I had the OnePlus 5T and really liked it until I changed cars and it completely refused to talk to the audio system.
I found a YouTube video comparing the Qualcomm and Exynos Note 10’s and in his test he got 7 hrs from the Exynos and 8hrs from the Snapdragon. Wow, bit of a difference.
Will see what the S20 (standard size) is like, and then decide whether to risk an imported Note 10 [emoji106]

Correction, the video of the Snapdragon getting another hour of screen time is the S10, not the Note 10, which means the Exynos is the 8nm 9820 rather than the 9825 in the Note.

So i got my Exynos note10 (not a new one, a used one but in a good shape) a week ago running android Q, and the battery drain was a little bit higher than average (compared to what people claiming in the battery section). So i decided to do a fresh reset by flashing a firmware using odin, after that i did some optimizations, disabling features that i dont really need, debloating some apps and waiting for the phone to learn my battery usage pattern (it took me around 4-5 days).So now I can get 7 to 8 hours of SOT using Chrome as my web browser, social media apps, and youtube. So yeah i think the 3500 mah battery is doing a pretty good job.
That’s really good, lots of owners don’t get that out of the Plus model

So the first thing i did was to flash a stock firmware and root it using magisk. Then i charged my phone until it get 100%, i use it until it dies and cannot get booted again (when the phone dies keep rebooting it until it cannot get rebooted again). I did the charging and discharging thing twice. I think this step is like calibrating your battery, correct me if I am wrong.
Then thanks to this post : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10/how-to/galaxy-note-10-note-10-plus-debloat-t3964225 i debloated Bixby, samsung pass / pay , samsung sticker center... Do this step at your own risk because you can brick your phone if you didnt choose correctly what to debloat.
Then i enabled Adaptive power saving, put unused apps to sleep, Optimise Battery usage and i restricted background activity and i use dark mode all the time.
I disabled Air action and all features related to S pen ( i only use s pen for writing).
You may not notice a big difference in the battery life until your phone learns usage pettern ("Learning pattern" usage becomes "An estimated time" in device care battery's section)
If you are on a rooted phone then you can use greenify to hibernate other apps.
Additional information, my phone battery drains from like 100% to 80% much quicker and then it start to go slower and slower because each battery behaves in a different way.
Took another look at the Note 10 today and think it's an absolutely stunning looking device. Best looking phone around for me. I noted in the Samsung store that they don't offer any sort of satisfaction guarantee, which is disappointing. Would have been tempted to take one if I had some insurance on the battery life not working out.
But the S20 has now launched, and it's impressive from a specs point of view. Time to see how the S20 reviews play out.

Yes, the S20 phones are phenomenal, especially the S20 Ultra. Which means the Note 11/20 will be an absolute beast

You are wrong this is really old battery habits. For several years and actual battery tech it's not recommended to fully discharge , the best way to improve battery life is to stay over 20% and avoid fast charging. That is also not how phone calibrates batteries.

Battery life on the Snapdragon Note 10+ has been great. It stayed consistent with the Android 10 update. I had the Note 8 before this phone, and I'd have to say the 10+ is better.
Indeed the difference is not so abysmal as before

Actually, there is a comparison for Note 10+ Exynos vs Snapdragon and indeed, the difference in battery is now minimal, of course the weak point for the Exynos is still the Mali GPU. So it looks like for power comsuption is now more even between Exynos 9825 and Snapdragon 855 (which is kind of obvious since both are 7nm)

Interesting thanks.
One of the things I’ve been bitten with on iPhones is the effect on battery life of the inferior Intel modems they’ve been using for the last few years. I went from an iPhone SE to an Xs and the difference in signal strength was definitely noticeable, and that will affect power consumption too.
I’m not saying this is the same with the Exynos modem but do tend to think that at this point, Qualcomm modems are the better
