Forcing solid 30 fps shooting; Rooting without receiving the unlock SMS - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Is it possible to force the camera to record at solid 30fps in 1080p (without rooting)?
My previous phone was a Galaxy S2 and I was under the impression that variable framerate was a thing 6 years ago. I was sadly mistaken, unfortunately.
Question #2: is it possible to root without giving Xiaomi your phone number? Yes, I read the guide. I'm just hoping there's another way because if there isn't, I'm not going to bother.

Try different camera apps like one plus camera or modded Google camera found in the below section

Rooting requires you to unlock the phone followed by custom recovery flash. Unlocking requires a Mi account registered with phone number. Try online VoIP numbers temporarily to register and unlock the phone..

By taping about phone the required amount of tines to become developer.
Developer options then show on the main settings.
In there is a switch to unlock bootloader per the manufacturer.
From there you could work your magic, but I highly doubt any of these gurus would be making a custom rom for this 30 U.S.dollar prepaid device
Given that this particular model is relatively cheap, a great deal for the money and is now the standard issue phone for millions of SafeLink (Obama Phone) subscribers in the U.S., I'm surprised is hasn't received more support from the rooting community personally.
I am also trying to figure out how to root this phone...
i didn't want to start trying just anything.
anyone get this phone rooted ?
I am also looking into it. I am going to purchase a new phone next month and I want to use this one as an MP3 player for my car. If I have any luck, I will be sure to post.

I checked mine (same firmware level, v6f29-ut90) and it does have an "OEM Unlocking" switch (currently ON) under Developer Options. I'm using mine as a PDA/notepad, have never activated it as a phone (although it works fine with Google Hangouts). The major problem is it won't even check for firmware updates over WiFi.
I want this phone rooted too so I can make complete backups with Titanium Backup.
same as I, need to unlock it for a customer.....but practically failed to have it rooted!
Any luck for root? I am about to click return.
I tried Kingroot as well and it didn't work.
Wow i have looked every where for a root solution and haven't found a single one. This phone is useless

I too would like root!! This is an activated backup phone we have. Surprised there's no development. It's up to us for this development.
No one working on root?
Did you guys give up on rooting this phone or just forgot to tell everyone how to. I also have this phone and would like to root it. Why for gaming purposes, its small and goes perfect with my gamepad(Bluetooth controller). Keymappers require root though. Hope to get it rooted soon or the gamepad will become another useless thing bought online.:fingers-crossed:
Nope gave up. Buy something with better support.

Goophone S8 & S8+ Support Thread (Unofficial)

Since I can find no support for these phones anywhere on the internet, I am creating this thread here in hopes of answering any questions anyone might have on this phone to the best of my abilities.
Important: These phones show fake RAM, Storage, Signal, and CPU. To reset this, use either ADB or Terminal Emulator, go into a shell and use the following command "am start -n com.android.ext.instruction/com.android.ext.instruction.DefaultValueActivity" without quotes. It will open the hidden settings. Note: Phone will require reboot, and will look like factory reset, however, all your data is still there.
All in all, it's not a bad starter phone. For someone who is just getting into smartphones, or coming from an earlier gen phone, it is perfect.
If you are looking at buying one of these phones, please read this thread first, it will provide some helpful insight to some of the issues you might have with these phones.
If you are buying one of these phones in hopes of rooting it, or a custom ROM, I would suggest not to buy it. I have not been able to successfully root it myself, and there's nobody else who has posted anything, anywhere about it.
Problems
Fingerprint Sensor - It will appear to work, but any finger can unlock it, no way to fix this, as the hardware is fake.
Heart Rate Monitor - Fake as well.
Bixby Button - Bixby does not come on this phone, just a knock off. The button works, bringing you to "Briefing" which just has a few shortcuts to other apps.
"Curved" screen - The screen is curved as you'd expect if you've had or seen an S7 Edge or S8. The glass is simply curved on the edges, giving it a curved look. However, what it does have is a pretty nice edge slide out feature as the S8 has.
Specifications (real)
MTK6592 1.7 Ghz Octa-Core CPU
1 GB RAM
5.6" or 5.8" Screen Size
8.0 Megapixel Rear Camera
3.0 Megapixel Front Camera
3G Capable - WCDMA:850/2100MHz, 2G - GSM: 850MHz/900MHz/1800MHz/1900MHz
WiFi 802.11B/G,GPRS/3G
Bluetooth Bluetooth 3.0 Version
FM Radio
GPS Builtin GPSA-GPS
Headphone/Microphone Port
USB C Port - Charging and Data (the original cord does NOT support data, only had luck with genuine Samsung cord - came from old Note 7)
2800 mAh Battery, Non-Removeable
A few have complained about slow boot times for any clone phone, however, I do not notice much difference in the time this takes to boot and my old S7 Edge.
I will update this with important information as I see fit.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to make a reply.

I also have the S8 clone, and while there isn't much information about the phone, I was able to gain root access using KingRoot. The phone becomes a million times more fun once you have root, enjoy!
I tried KingRoot and it didn't work for my goophone s8. Maybe they will find a root solution though.

If that's not working, download KingoRoot and run it once. It'll reboot the phone during the process, and the root won't go through, but after running KingoRoot with no success, go back into KingRoot, and try to root the phone one more time. If it still won't work, then I'm not sure what else to suggest.
Nope didn't work. Thanks for the help though. Maybe king root will find the root eventually. I'll keep trying.
I can only run kingoroot once? Would it have told me whether it worked or not or just reboot?
Thanks,

You can run KingoRoot as many times as you want, but it doesn't ever work, at least in my case. All it ever does is reboot the phone, and afterwards, you'll still have no root.
Where can I download the stock firmware for this phone? I can't seem to find the correct files anywhere. BTW I was able to get root with Kingroot after running it 3-4 times. I was not able to replace Kinguser with Supersu no matter what I did but I did have root and could use a handful of my root apps until I bricked it. :-/
Maybe someone here can help me. I got my S8 plus about a week ago and my sim card is not working in the phone .. any ideas how to fix this problem?

Just an update. After begging the manufacturer for months they finally uploaded the stock firmware and sent me the link. Can be flashed with SPFlash Tool. I was able to use it to unbrick mine. Hope this can help someone else that may need it.

Hello All,
Please help. Does anyone know the code for these Goophone S8 clones for my scenario?
I am locked out of this model Goophone s8 because of a message that says; "Please enter the Privacey Protection Password to unlock".
Does anyone know if I have to flash a new ROM to get around this problem?
Or since the phone is legitimately mine and not stolen, is there someone here in the USA I can contact to get the "Password" (the kepad is only numbers) so i doubt it is a "word" but that's neither here nor there.
Please hElP!!!!!
How to get my "Privacy Protection Password"?

Mate 10, four basic root questions

Hi, I used to jailbreak every Apple product because without JB they are junk.
However since moving to Android I've not needed to root as it's so cool anyway. However I may have to root my Mate 10 to get over the awful widget updating issue. I can either do that or return it.
So I want to ask
1) Is one root better than another? People are talking about having fixed the widget update issue using a magisk root. Are there better roots out there?
2) Apart from Titanium and developer type apps, I can't see an awful lot of reason for rooting for me other than sorting out Huawei's widget bug. Are there other cool reasons? For example... I'd love to be able to record phonecalls - will there be root-only apps that allow me to do this (only for recording me taking the piss out of scammers!).
3) Mine is a Chinese Mate 10 which has had its ROM changed to ALP-L29 C636... the palce I bought it from said it shouldn't matter with a root but I just want ot check that if I root it, it won't somehow get rid of the ROM and make it Chinese again?
4) Lastly... I've read abotu cyanogenmod (meybe there are better ones now). Am I right in thinking though that if I run something like that then I will lose all the camera benefits like the wide aperture post processing, the huawei speed thing where the phone gets faster with use (it actually works- my old Mate 9 is faster now than it was at start, amazing!) etc...
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help with any of the above.

Is it likely that the S9+ SnapDragon will never get bootloader unlock and root?

Let's ignore the Chinese SnapDragon variant that has BL unlock and root.
For all the other SnapDragon versions, is it possible that they will never get bootloader unlock and root? I'm looking at the S8+ which has been released well over a year now and the SnapDragon variants also seem to not have root or BL unlock.
EDIT: Wow, even looking back at the S7, LineageOS is only supported on the Exynos models and none of the SnapDragons:

It's unlikely. It takes finding an actual exploit to unlock the bootloader which comes with tradeoffs. You will trip Knox which will permanently void your warrenty, as well as make it so Samsung Pay never works again. In the S8 it also cripples the battery to never charge over 85% I believe.
It's possible that someone may find an exploit to achieve root / unlock bootloader. I wouldn't hold out hope though. If you really have to have root / custom roms, don't get the US Snapdragon device. Or get another phone altogether.

Thanks. For me root is necessary. I've used Samsung ever since the S2. Besides being very very slow to release OS updates, they are notorious for no longer supporting and updating a phone that hardware-wise still has a TON of life left in it. When this happens, instead of being forced to upgrade I simply install something like LineageOS on it and get years of extra use out of it.
So for me root is very very important and I'm pretty mad that they stopped it for SnapDragon since at least the S7. Sound reasonable?

it's a kind of "in the eye of the beholder" thing really.
Your not forced to upgrade phones. You don't have to actually root the phone to get use out of it once Samsung decides to stop issuing major OS updates, you can easily use the same OS for a long while. I know some brand new phones that are still being sold with older android OS's on them, and I know quite a few people who are getting a lot of use out of them.
Also it's not that they stopped it for the snapdragon phones as much as it is Samsung made the phone to be secure. If there is no exploit that can be found to install root on the phone then it means Samsung did what they were supposed to do when designing, creating and updating the phone. While I would also like the ability to root the phone at some point in time and customize it as I wish, I also do prefer to maintain the ability to keep my phone secure. Rooting the phone strips away some/most of that security by allowing full admin access to the phone's software (something that it was not originally intended to be sold with).
So like I said, it's an eye of the beholder thing....

As the other person said, there's nothing wrong with running an older OS. I typically upgrade every year or two, so I'm not too worried.
I used to always root and usually run something custom. The S9 Plus is the 2nd phone I haven't rooted, the LG v20 being the other. Honestly, the only thing I was missing was Titanium Backup. Google has gotten better about backing up app data. It isn't perfect, but it's a lot better. Samsung also included a decent backup app for restoring.
As for OS updates, we are already seeing Treble pay off. Sure, being able to use a GSI image would be nice but the alpha builds are further along than in previous years at the time from what I've read.
If you truly care about root / custom roms, you should probably get a pixel. They are the easiest to unlock, have the fastest updates, and will play so nicely with GSI images.
I wish I had researched this aspect of the 9/S9+ more before buying one.
I came from the S5, and the Galaxy S before, and didn't realize that the phone hadn't had root for a while (and was looking so doubtful)
Titanium Backup *was* a favorite root-enabled program, as well as a few others, and I liked LineageOS.
But I will probably stay with this phone for a while, now that I own it. It has been a good phone -- I just liked the freedom of a rooted phone.

Due to nobody trying to work on it actively I don't think more than likely not. We'd have to try to bring in somebody

how to root?

is there any method to root this device?
The device just came out. There is no root yet
at least you are smart enough to look here first. i've looked around on the internet and there is some ass hat who has tried to convince people to use ODIN to root their devices and got his friends to say yes this worked in the comments. so many people having troubles and the guy is pretending to "help" in the comments. for people who haven't fully bricked their device to ensure that they have. i mean i guess if you are dumb enough to think a device has a working hack a week after it came out then you are doing it to yourself
i'm sure with enough know how they can fix their phones but as it is they are stuck in a boot loop
lesson to the story: always check with a reputable source before you do something which can potentially soft-brick your multi-hundred/thousand/ and in some instances multi-thousand dollar device

You don't need root to use gcam. All the recent gcam development has been on the rootless variants. As for roms, there aren't any available yet, but now that these are starting to get into more people's hands it's only a matter of time.
