Teaching Bixby to swear. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I generally have the tendency to swear at my voice assistants. I just attempted to tell Bixby 'F you' though, I pronounced it like a real person and not a Mormon. She heard that as 'suck you' and responded with;
I am just trying to be a good sidekick for you

Brilliant! Though when I asked that language filters be disabled, it took me to the camera application and stated that I didn't have any filters activated...

I always wanted to train and hack maps. To be like "you missed your turn dumb$ss" or "f-in turn at the next light f***er" lol that would be awesome.

So...you spend 1K on a smartphone to swear at it?
Like I have said before the Note 8 has a much higher IQ than some of its owners. Living proof here eh!

Garmin XT on my old Nokia's I used yoda voice.surprisingly it's better than other voice because yoda says "turn left, you shall" or "turn right, you will" rather than the please turn left.. And occasionally it will chuckle a bit to replace the "go straight"

Why would you want to?

Has anyone gotten the thing to work where if bixby misunderstands a command, you can teach it what you actually said? I've been trying to get that to work, teaching it the same word (a contact name it keeps misspelling and then telling me that contact doesn't exist) over 30 times now and it still hasn't changed how it hears me.

unfortunately working with Samsung about this issue they have confirmed that bixby is not integrated to have the profanity block removed at this time, unlike google now or google keyboard.
My issue isnt necessarily swearing at bixby but having her type in my message the way i am saying it, sometimes you just need to tell someone to hurry the F up.

Looking for app to track my wife?

I'm looking for an app I can install on my wife's phone that is hidden so that I can see where she is or has been via cell towers or gps. Doesn't need to be real time but I need to know if she has been where I think she has been. She is pretty dumb when it comes to her phone but has never had gps enabled and would probably notice the enabled icon. I'm pretty confident she is cheating on me and just need to know for sure before I confront her. Is there such an app?
I don't need a lot of features. Basically location history. Some place called spectorsoft has something but it is $70. ANy freebies out there?
Thanks!!
Just go to Google maps and sign her up on Latitude. Latitude will tell you where she was and is. Then after that, install Dexrex on her phone and you can see any, and all, texts she sends and receives. The best part is that it's all free. Then you can use Overview (which used to be free) to do similar things. Also, if you want to catch her on your PC, just install a keylogger.
Does she have Android smartphone? If she have, you can find such apps on Market. I needed that type of app before but unfortunately, we haven't got android on all device. Google Latitude is good too.

I don't condone your method.... But, I know where you are coming from.
Tasker is an amazing app. Not any type of tracking system specifically. But you can create a set of profiles and tasks where you could do something like send a txt to her. Something like "I love you." Or "how are you" or something inconspicuous. You can then program it to, upon recieving said message, turn on GPS for 1min, get a lock on her location and txt you back her location and then shut off GPS. You can also make it so if she looks back into her chat log. It won't show that her phone automatically sent that txt with her where a bouts.
I have something similar in case my phone is ever lost/stolen. Except my setup will also lock the phone, flash the leds, the camera flash, and make a loud noise.
Or you could just sit her down and talk about it....she will appreciate you more, because if she finds the apps you install.....theirs nothing worse than denying it was you who installed them (lying to her) when you have no proof she is lying to you. Your situation is nothing that can't be sorted out by talking about it. Have you got concrete evidence she's playing away? If you don't trust her....I'd learn to and quick because lack of trust is a killer for all relationships. Don't snoop around fishing dude....talk to her!

I have teenagers, so I definitely know where your coming from. My solution is an annual subscription (I think $12 per year, no more than $19.99) is "WaveSecure" by McAfee. Which I do admit if I EVER lost my phone, it is a blessing to have! I can go to a certain locked website by McAfee and not only be able to see where my phone is (without the user knowing) but I can lock it and send a alarm with a custom message. I can even pull pics and content from it. And you can't get into it or uninstall it once its set up on phone without a 6 digit password. Its mainly used if you have you phone stolen. It even notifies me if the SIM card is removed!
Latitude also works, but you have to configure her phone, and (like my teenagers) will eventually know how to turn it off.
Damn kids get smart like that.

I would check your local laws before doing this. I believe it is illegal. I believe there was a recent case where a husband did something similar and was held on wiretapping charges. I do believe it was key logging and not cell phone tracking.

SIRI on Android - Now real

So, i just came across this where the protocol of siri has been cracked and can now be ported to the original ipad + Android devices.
Looks like this can be done by an experienced developer, so posting it here.
Hope some genius can come out with some good results for all of us, and make his money too
http://applidium.com/en/news/cracking_siri/
hoping for this too
hmm.... i just found out that siri user apple server for 'her' artificial intelegence.
i though it was on iPhone 4, so 3gs can't taste siri.
anyway, this is great effort.
i really can't imagine android use apple server for using siri xD

Why would anyone port siri for android? Ever heard of google search? Come built in with android os since android came out to the market. Use the voice action of the app and it will do the same thing that siri does.. without the sarcastic answers that apple thought will save the craphone. Siri is just apple's varsion of google's google search. But if you are looking to ask her to marry you or find you a spot to dump a body, you should look out and see that there is life beyond sitting infront of the computer and hoping it will answer.

Well siri seems better at recognising voice commands... I used Iris which uses the wolframalpha database just like siri, and the only problem seems to be with the google voice recogniser api (probably cause i'm not american and it's not optimised for anyone but)... would be nice if it could recognise perfectly atleast but i guess that's google's work to do....

Deviation from topic???? that too from a MOD????
Actually google's voice search api is pretty good.. only not so much at recognising other accents.. which isnt really google's fault really... I mean there's no accent that u can TRULY call 'Indian" for instance... based on the latitude, I can see around 5 accents quite different from each other really....
American users: does it work well for you? I mean does google voice search generally transcribe voice to words correctly???

Well it works pretty well most of the time, however I do sometimes have to intentionally mispronounce some words, names for instance, and then sometimes the thing is totally in left field; still it is pretty good most of the time. I used voice dial in front of one of my many iPhone toting friends recently, and his jaw dropped...( and voice dial isn't exactly new...)

GV works 80% of the time for me as well and I have a 'midwestern' accent, or no accent. Sometimes the results are just weird
What really pisses me off is that I can't get it to understand "Mimi's Cafe" for the life of me, it interprets it as "Nini's Cafe".
Why it's trained to come up with a single restaurant close to Google HQ instead of the name of a decent sized chain restaurant is just too Bay Area centric.

Hmmm for me it's actually pretty terrible actually.. I tried English (Generic) and English(India) accents in GV settings.. and in both cases it generally doesnt recognise a word i say... it is quite entertaining at first but annoying eventually... I remember saying "Forum Mall" (like..."fohrummma mawla") and the best it got is "Form One"
So actually if Siri's voice recognition is better... and Apple does NOT mind (and they WILL mind) we could probably use only siri's VR engine.. (I say "probably" cause i'm not a dev.. just an enthusiast)

There is an app in the market and I'm sorry I can't remember the name but i downloaded it a while ago a.d it did most of what siri does. You could ask it random things and it would answer it would also preform actions on the phone just by speaking. But in talking to it I pissed it off then he wouldn't talk to me for 5 minutes. So my response was uninstalling it
Was it called iris?

Those nicknames sound about right, and remember, computers are suppose to magically work. There is no back end servers that manage everything, it just works.
My drive isn't available yet. The funny thing is that I was interviewing with Dropbox a few weeks ago when this was rumored. During the second interview they asked "what feature do you think could completely revolutionize Dropbox?" my answer was the ability to store media and stream it to your devices, they said it was a good idea but would probably create problems with the DMCA/MPAA/RIAA/any other four letter asshole groups or laws. I just saw on G+ today that someone mentioned this was a feature and when I asked them about it they confirmed it worked!
I have a feeling that once this matures, Dropbox is going to lose a fair amount of users.
Have you guys seen the verge article? Basically, they could possibly use, modify, and profit from what you store in the gdrive. I went ahead and downloaded it, and it works pretty well. Just waiting to see how Google responds to the complaints. I dig google, and all the stuff the put out. Just sayin.

Not nearly as bad as the headlines we are seeing.
Source:

Just got mine activated today, it's neat, but nothing mind-blowing yet. The only thing that is awesome right now is if you upload a video to your drive you can watch it on a mobile device.

There's a little trick to "forcing" activation. If you have 2 google accounts on your phone, download the app and keep switching between accounts in the app and it will activate. Did it yesterday and it worked. I now have 2 active accounts 10 minutes after signup.
not really liking drive though..or the app I should say. Lacks image thumbnails and can't create folders. To view an image it takes time to open where dropbox is almost instant and you can swipe to next pic just like in gallery. IMO, dropbox is still the winner. But I'm sure its only time till those issues are addressed.

Let's discuss that here, so we could build our experience of possible use ways of S-Voice for the time when we'll get our hands on the phone
I don't see much practical use except maybe for apple fanboys...
Besides in a car I find voice controls hardly practical and sometimes obnoxious.

It doesn't look very stylish to type silently on your phone while waiting in line at Starbucks. So have a conversation with your phone while you wait in line. The Galaxy S3 is just like an old friend who is ready to strike up a conversation with you. All you have to do is say "Hi Galaxy!"
You can shout obscenity at it while you're pissed off at work. There is a market for anger management apps.
LOL, i thought of real usage suggestions, not laughs

^^^That ^^^ but otherwise I don't think I'm going to use it much. I don't particularly feel the need to have a conversation with my phone.

The SGS2 is no fun to talk with because it is just a phone..
But the Galaxy S3 is a different story. She is natural and human. She knows when I sleep. She watches me every moment of the day. She always knows what I want next.
I think it depends what its capable of. Can you ask it to do calculations? can you ask it to create a shopping list? can you ask it to play a certain song? or could you ask it to read out a text message, ask it to call someone.

also really curious of how much it is capable of
The key will be extending it to other apps unlike the POS that is Siri which only works with Apple apps. E.g. Can I use SVoice to send messages or make calls using custom dialed or SMS.
I hope to be a greek version otherwise it is useless for me
I have uninstalled vlingo. Google voice search is handy, when I search for something but don't know how to spell it.
Svoice could be useful while driving in my car to trigger a phone call.

I see it working with my Bluetooth in my car. I get in the car forget to turn on Bluetooth and just say hi galaxy turn on Bluetooth . And I'm all ready to receive calls and my music starts to play automatically.
Other then that no use at all. Im from Australia so it probably won't even understand me, I don't care don't want the phone for that may freeze it lol

Creepy... Perhaps it will delete your contacts in anger if you stop looking at it when it talks with you.

yes voice apps are useless if they dont understand your own language. i use my phone in english so phone part may not be important but cant have my all frinds have english names to start a voice call
I'm on the road a lot for work, and listen a LOT of music. Driving and scrolling through tracks can be a bit of a hazard sometimes, so I'm really hoping I can just tell my phone to play a track or album and it does it.
That alone would be a selling point for me.

Yes, I want this too...
even if it doesn't cone built into the phone, shouldn't we be able to find a mod for it?

if there is going to be a gps reminder thingy ill be extremely happy. nothing like pulling into walmart and having your phone remind you to get the toilet paper you have desperately been needing for a couple days. it can be quite the cleansing experience.
i am also wondering if they are going to throw in the sheep reference towards apple users. i know its petty, but if i could get the phone to make fun of some of the tree huggers that hang out in starbucks... i might get a laugh and it would make my purchase of the phone all the more worth it.
If it's extensible enough so other apps can use it them it may be really useful. Google Voice hasn't done this. e.g. 'forward this email to my Tennis group and upload all attachments to Dropbox'. Or 'Play TuneIn channel ABC'. Complex voice commands could really be useful. We know Siri is nothing more than a simple keyword recognition engine so I'm hoping Samsung has done something better.
Agree, until we know what its capabilities are there is no way to make a guess at how useful it might be.

S voice "hi galaxy" doesn't work

I thought on the s3 if you said "hi galaxy" when the phone screen was on it was suppose to go into s voice ?
Even if I double click and say hi galaxy it says it doesn't understand what I mean ?
Do I need to enable something ?
Thanks in advance
You have to program it to recognise your voice first..

Probably being thick but how ?
Also do u say hi galaxy when screen on or when u double click ?
Thanks in advance
I'm from the UK and in my experience S-Voice answers **** all if you ask with the language set to English, it really is shockingly bad. It'll answer basic questions such as the weather but almost everything else it doesn't understand. If you want to ask it more questions switch the language to american.
I've asked numerous questions with it set to UK and it just says it doesn't understand what I mean but if I ask the same questions with it set to USA it'll give answers to all of them. It's really weird.
S-Voice - Soft edit key - Settings - Language
See if that helps...
Tbh I'm mega disappointed with s voice it's as bas as siri . I'm in Manchester UK and asked for my nearest petrol station it came up with getta inAmerica wtf ?

Same issue with an Australian accent. There isn't an option to use English Australian yet, so perhaps that will help. I would have expected an accent to have less of an impact on the voice recognition, seeing as other apps seem to work better.
Word on the street is Google are going to do something about Siri officially so to speak, so maybe samsung don't need to fix it.

HaHa well at least the petrol will be cheaper.
If you set it to English US it gives funnier answers LOL
I like the fact the interface actually covers the whole screen so you don't realise its using the network to determine what you said...
And just for fun, I asked where the nearest perol station was and it returned "Getty", when I hit the more option it gave it gave me a map of New York. Fine and all except I'm in Newcastle Australia... Bit far to go for petrol...
Same with me
The other day after many questions and it failing to pick up what I was saying, I said "you are so unreliable" and it replied saying "Thank you for saying I'm reliable"
I could have thrown it against a wall
Perhaps only getty petrol stations are paying google to advertise

This is what I got with the petrol station question (I've got s voice set to UK English)
Edit: here's something *really* stupid: if I tell it "drive to Island Gardens station" it immediately loads up nav , shows my location and the route perfectly well. If however I tell it "walk to Island Gardens station" then I get the "sorry I don't understand what you mean by... " reply

Worst program ever
^^^^ obviously not then
I wouldn't bother even trying, It's pointlessly terrible. Rather than release a phone with this, perhaps samsung should have made a stand against voice control that nobody uses rather than give Apple an open goal to rip S Voice to shreds?
