If you watch videos encoded in high quality resolutions above 854x480, H.264 or MPEG4 and a pretty high bitrate, you might notice that video playback is laggy and not fluid with custom ROMs. This flashable zip package is supposed to fix that.
Tested
Stable - Any ROM based on stock 2.3.3 (Wolfs TW Gingerbread, Blue Sparks, Ultima GB etc.)
Stable - Most xRecovery-based CM7 ROMs (ZMOD, SpaarcMOD, FreeXperia Sony UI Achotjan etc.)
Stuck on boot - MIUI ROMs
Untested
FXP CM7 (won't work anyways since it uses CWM)

EDIT: I've uploaded a test video to check whether video decoder lag is present or not.
http://puu.sh/5j8h/SmoothnessTest.mp4 (854x480, H.264, 5 mbit/s)
If it stutters during playback, that's an indication that the video is lagging.
This fix will not eliminate the problem but will reduce the lag by a huge margin.
I noticed this while watching videos with camera panning, they looked very juddery.
Anyone tried this? Just wondering what the original problem was.

So, this should enable me (us) to play 720p Youtube vids?
never notist a problem and if there whas a problem, Z would have notist and came with the solution.
I think i would not flash this before making a back up.

Why do you feel like discouraging people who try to offer something to the community?
On the one hand, there are tons of threads in General section
whining about people moving on from the X10 and development stalling,
and then there are post like yours... It's just not right.
Anyway, @OP, I played the test video and noticed no lags.
Could you explain what is it that you changed in the .so libraries please?
And why some people have the issue and others don't?
Thank you very much!
Okay. Downloaded the files. Tested the video. It does stutter a little.
Tested with scary gov. Running video twice... 22sec at 128mhz. And none over 500mhz! So its not decoding over cpu
P.s. Yes, also did with performance. Same problem.
Now gonna make backup. And then flash file.
Noticed the lag myself. So maybe it's missing a video codec, so it's not using hardware rendering.
I'll flash the fix and see if it works.

It depends.
On modded stock ROMs, if the dev included z's audio lag fix, this problem will surface.
On custom ROMs (CM7 for example), the issue is already there.
This zip simply replaces the libs with those from stock ROM.
PS: It was one of the reasons why I didn't use Froyo custom ROMs.

Technically, yes. Personally, I rarely get any audio lags while listening to music except when there's CPU heavy stuff going on like installing a large app from the Market.

Not really. We play HQ YT vids aka 480p
Try DL-ing a 720p or even a 1080p vid and play it... see what happens. Not to mention HD divx/xvid content
P.S. regarding audio lag. I still experience it while underclocking to 128MHz. It's doesn't happen while the sleep FQ is at 245, though
Sup guys , after searching and messing with media_profiles.xml alot, finally i found a fix for slowmotion recording with stock moto camera on cm12.1.
just replace media_profiles.xml i have provided and volla .
these are the changes i have done apart from slowmo -
increased 4k bitrate to 65 from 30 mbps
increased 1080p bitrate to 20 from 17mbps
increased 4k audio bitrate to 320kbps
increased 1080p audio bitrate to 256kbps
image quality to 100%
how to - extract the file and copy it to the /system/etc/ , overwrite and give permission 644. you need moto camera already installed, just install it from playstore.
p.s.- it seems like slowmo isn't working exactly same as stock firmware but it's better than not working , it may work on other roms too i haven't tested yet. Doesn't work on cm13 according to some users and i can't fix it since im still on cm12.1 for obvious reasons
Its working thanks
Works great in NX Nexus rom

i think audio can't be fixed in slowmo. think of it like this - when you fast forward/ rewind a video in any dvd player or digital player (pc), either audio gets messdup or it gets mute. that's how slowmo works. it records video @120fps and then plays it back at 30 fps. so it will be pretty slow speed audio . also if you open media_profiles.xml you can see it ignores audio settings for timelapse videos. so it can't be fixed without framework changes i guess. no idea honestly .

Hello XDA, I am user of Moto E and I frequently jump from ROMs to test the stability, performance and bugs of all ROMs I can try.
I watch a lot of TV Series and one of the newer trends is HEVC aka h265 aka x265. This codec enables use to watch HD videos in half the size without losing much quality.
Coming to point, as we know that Moto E as well as Moto G 2014 does not natively supports HEVC playback but all custom ROMs(I really mean all) based on Android Lollipop or above, can play 720p HD HEVC videos smoothly on our device.
It was all going good until 12th May.
I was using Mokee ROM, build 11 May 2016. Then I installed the OTA for 12 May. And bam, HEVC playback is screwed now.
At first I thought this problem was exclusive to Mokee ROM but turns out ALL the ROMs built after 12 May 2016 have this bug.
I have tested and confirmed that the bug exists on: Cyanogenmod 13, Mokee 6.0.1, Resurrection Remix 5.5.9, AOSP CAF, Krexus.
It is a systemwide problem, not just of a media player.
So, I request the devs to have a look at commits made on or before 12th May that affect video playback. or are related to it.
If this is not fixed then many of us will not be using newer builds.
I have attached a screenshot of the problem. To reproduce this bug, just play any hevc video and you will notice a green colored overlapping.

I was talking about HEVC codec. Not about h264 or mkv in general.
HEVC uses h265 which is a newer codec.
Download any 720p h265 based video and you will see the bug in playback.

Try any old build of april of Mokee or CM or any. HEVC playback was worse before, they did some upgrade and frame drops were heavily reduced. But on near 12th may there was a commit to main source which completely broke the playback.

Our phone does not natively support HEVC videos but custom roms have kernel enhancements and/or changes in framework_av which made playback possible.
Bug Reporting Process
@piku 123 - Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I don't browse the condor forums regularly, so I don't see these reports unless I'm told about them.
I don't have my condor on me, but I was able to reproduce this issue with HEVC playback on the latest nightly for otus, and can confirm that this issue is not present on the older snapshot build. Since this issue is easily and consistently reproducible, and would have had a clear last known good and first known bad date, this would be classified as a nightly regression. Nightly regressions are reproducible issues that worked properly on a specific recent nightly and no longer work on the current nightly. The proper way to report nightly regressions is on JIRA.
I understand that the JIRA bug reporting process takes a little time, as you need to be clear and specific about the nature of the issue. However, reporting it through JIRA would ensure that the all the relevant developers are made aware of the issue in a timely manner, have proper descriptions of issues, and specific last known good dates. It also allows tracking the progress of the issue and follow up. Due to the nature of Android's version control (a bunch of separate git repos), it can become difficult to reproduce a month old build. The sooner an issue is reported on JIRA, the easier it would be to debug.
With regards to this issue with HEVC, since I am now already aware of the issue and working on it, it probably isn't necessary to create a JIRA ticket. However, for future reference, please report new nightly regressions on JIRA.
Yes, I was facing this issue on 9 may cm13 build. And great to see that squid2 was read this thread and will fix this issue.

Heyyo, eh I'd recommend using MX Player. It's pretty much the only video playing and streaming app for Android that works properly with hardware acceleration. Back on my OnePlus One it was pretty much the only way to watch 1080P videos properly.
Amigos kernel was good but development stopped quite a while ago as Shivatejapeddi has moved onto Oreo development. I'd recommend a different kernel such as BS or BSi Kernel or Darkobas (OmniROM) kernel found on other ROMs.
About kernel - ROM Slim7 is working on BlackScreen 3.6.2, ROM and kernel works very good, maybe worth trying?
Hey everyone this would probably be my comeback for posting a thread after like 5 years. and previously i did some development for Samsung's Galaxy Core 2 G355H and after that i got myself a oneplus 3.
Now coming on to the Topic. I have been feeling that the stock Oneplus Camera encoder is taking way too much space as it should because it uses H264 encoder. and i suddenly felt that i have to do something about it.
So i searched through the internet. and found that it is not availabe for Pie though it was available for Oreo here.
but then that thread got me an idea and i edited the xml file myself and made it work.
This module enable HEVC/H265 video recording on OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.
The bitrate values are the same as original.
The audio codec it's still AAC and the audio bitrate is doubled to 192kbps.
For Half bitrate i ll use heaac which uses less space without losing quality
Why should I use HEVC instead of H264?
Basically, HEVC provide the same quality as H264, but using half the bitrate, this means that you can record videos with the same quality but using less space, or, if you're more inclined to that, record video that use the same space but with better quality (less compression, therefore less artifacts and more details overall).
