Screen smashed on my Moto Z, phone is still working and even the touch screen works fine. But there's no image at all. I have a new phone but I'd like some of the data I have stored on the Moto Z before I wipe it.
Anyway I plugged it into my PC and opened the phone its recognised by the PC and opens a folder but its empty. Which is because unfortunately I need to enable file transfer on the phone to allow access to the files, but I can't do that with nothing visible on the screen.
Any ideas how I can get the data off the phone?
Might even help if someone could post a image of the screen you have to use to select file transfer, then I can just hit the right area on the blank screen to enable it..
You need to get ahold of the projector mod so you can see your screen and then configure it. I think the Moto Z2 Force should be a phone you might consider with it's guaranteed shatterproof screen
Don't know anyone with the projector, or even with a Moto Z. I can't even delete the data now, as google won't find the device for a remote wipe (my new phone being logged into google has logged my Moto Z out maybe?).
Would be great if someone could post a few screen caps of the Moto Z plugged into to USB asking for input to enable USB file transfer, then I could use the image to enable it and just copy/delete data with my PC.

Could I maybe put the phone into download mode (should be easy enough even blind). Then use Odin to flash a stock Moto Z ROM which would also wipe all data?
I managed to enable Wifi, which I realised was what was stopping google locating the phone. I then used my google account to erase all data.

Odin? Lol.
Edit: I realized my previous response was a bit dickish. Here is a more appropriate response...
Odin is an application developed by Samsung for Samsung phones. Moto uses an application called RSDLite or simply Fastboot.

Hi everyone,
I am in some trouble. I have accidentally deleted all my photos from my Samsung Galaxy S2 before a couple of hours. They were stored in Camera folder of my phone Gallery. Plus I have deleted one hidden folder as well which contained my personal data (videos) which was very important.
I know I should have been more careful, but I cant help it now. I searched on internet about how can I recover my lost data, but didn't come to any conclusion. Now, you guys on this forum are my last hope to get my data back if I can.
Is there ANY way its possible to recover the data that I have deleted? Please let me know guys, I need your expertise to resolve this problem.
I am having Samsung Galaxy S2 [GT-I9100 model] [ Android version: 2.3.3]
Thanks a million...

Hi Jokesy,
Thanks a lot for the link. I went through it, I installed that software as well. but the problem is that, the software shows ONLY my computer hard drive. it just doesn't show my mobile disk.
Means, I have connected my mobile through the USB cable. So it shows "connected" on my mobile screen. But that software just doesn't pick it up. I can restore the files that I have deleted from my PC but not from my mobile. I haven't kept the option for USB debugging ON, its OFF. But I am not sure if that has anything to do with this. Because when I tried with USB debugging: ON, it still doesn't show my mobile storage in the software console. I don't have any external SD card, I have lost my data from my PHONE memory, the one we get inbuilt [11GB].
Is there a way I can make the software detect my phone memory and try to restore my deleted data? Any help would be appreciated

You need to connect your phone as mass storage.
Enable USB debugging under application settings, then reconnect your phone again to your Pc

I did that, but for some reasons, its just not showing my mobile as external storage. It just shows me 2 new drives like Removable Disk H: and Removable Disk I:. But when I click on them it asks me to "please insert a disk into drive". So basically when I do the debugging: ON, my phone is not getting detected a a storage unit. But on the phone it says that "USB Connected, select the files to copy from your computer". But the photorec software, still doesn't pick it up.
Is there anything that I am missing? Attaching the snapshots... :crying:
Do you really know how to use your mobile phone?
When you connect your phone, open your notification drawer and turn on USB storage!

Got it now, I am so sorry. Stressed up
Will let you know how it goes...
Way to copy & paste from here (Yes it was that obvious the words weren't yours).
When you deleted something in your phone, first remember not to use your phone again, including text, calling, and try to recover the data you want first. After that, you may use you phone.
I also recommend using google drive and google+. All my photos and videos are there. 15 gigs on standard and if you download quickoffice on your device and link with google drive u will receive another 5 or 10 gigs. I presume 20 -25 Gb is more than enough. The best part ? A good wi-fi connection and google drive installed on the PC and phone and you can access your files anywhere. Add astro file manager for transfering files from internal memory to google drive and viceversa.

Have you gone to Google play store and done a search for "undelete".
I have accidentally deleted stuff in the past and this worked for me. I can't remember which on I used... Will search and edit it in. undeleter by fahrbot. I even shelled out for the premium version. So must have liked it.
Dear All,
I have accidently deleted the Home launcher app of my Android 2.2 mobile (Chinese H3000 model); as a result it is not going beyond the screen saver at all, the screen just turns blank with no widgets/shortcuts/buttons appearing at all!
Although it rings & receives calls when called.
I have already tried factory reset option.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem

Dear Mr Akshay,
Thanks for responding but none of the two options work - Couldn't see play store in the launch on pressing & holding Home key; was able to access play store via gmail login on my PC & tried downloading - the message did appear that it will be loaded shortly on the device but thereafter nothing on the Phone. The main problem is that I'm not getting any menu buttons at all, it's only a blank screen as soon as I unlock the screen saver i.e I have no settings button or any other button. While connected to PC only the sd card gets read in the windows explorer on PC, but there's way to open sd card on phone!

Moborobo can install apps

Missing launcher fixed!
Hello to all!
I note a lot of inquires on this site many of users using programs's like Titanium backup and other "advance" users just deleted Launcher as soon is they get there hands on the root!
Then they find out that they can see only black screen. Many of you try to replace it with dozen of software's but find out that Debugging mode is off. And is no way that can be enabled.
Well not all that bad as it shows. Firs at all if you are still log in to your Google app go to your account on Google go to apps and download, it will stated online that item is available on your phone now it over, top bar you can see it and install it come to the phone via Ethernet - WiFi or 4G.
If you already reset your phone or hard reset and you still see the black screen watch my video on how to get launcher in to your phone very simple, using dongle, other Bluetooth enabled laptop or smart phone!

I has face the same problem as you and i has done it right way
Since you has root your android phone,I know that you are very excited to remove those unusefull apps same as me.I got the same problem as you that I also used China Mobile phone and can't done any of the suggestion here(suggested such as flash those .zip in recovery) that won't work on china mobile type. When I has delete my home launcher, one thing for sure, the screen is black after turned on and I did reset factory data in recovery mode(worst move ever cause my wifi connected password has totally gone). So,my first effort was I take my moms tablet and start downloading any launcher (.apk) .Okay, since before I get into black screen,If I press lock key,the ring menu will appear right?.I used those ring menu as a door to get into my bluetooth connection. At the ring menu,I drag it towards 'camera',and then click on the pictures that you have captured(gallery in camera).Just pick any random photo and click share (via bluetooth) after that,I send a photo to my moms tablet(actually just to make pairing cause can't go to bluetooth settings). After paired,I try to send the home launcher.apk from my moms tablet using bluetooth connection that has been paired this before.Eventually, after receive the apk file,I can't open it.It says "no application can perform this action"(but, maybe you should try it first.Maybe it'll work on you.If not, try another one of my step). So,I was frustrated having an unsolved solutions through internet source information and I almost dump my phone in the dustbin. But then,I try another way. This time,I use the same door/way(through camera in ring menu). But this time I try to send through gmail(I don't think that I have any wifi or data connection after reset factory data eh?!).But boom !! The idea comes to me that I try to send the photo through gmail account just to make a wifi connection(again, because I can't go to settings). So,after I try to send it through gmail, the Sign-In screen will appear(but remember,I don't have any wifi/data connected. What I'm going to do?!!).I just filled in my email and password and click Sign-In.Of course the connection can't be made because there is no connection at all.But the trick is,when you wait for a few seconds, you will be asked to make a wifi connection(automatically the wifi around you appear in the list). So,make a connection through any wifi and sign-in(yeay!!connection established !).After that,I try to send home launcher.apk through gmail using my mom's tablet to my phone and a few moments later you will get a gmail notification through notification bar.Click on it,and click install. There you go.You are safe again.

Hi all,
I may sound stupid with that title for this thread....I was recording a video and apparently my S3(32GB) went extremely low on storage and konked off. It used to freeze after every boot and just wouldn't move. (the screen along with the h/w buttons)
I tried connecting it to the laptop where I thought I could delete some stuff from the phone through the laptop but it just wasn't recognized. It showed charging but never connected. Tried all the drivers but didnt work. I cleared the cache in the recovery mode, connected in safe mode, download mode etc but the MTP driver never got installed. Eventually I had to do a factory reset. Its working fine now...but obviously I lost all my data...I really need the pics real bad. Is there any way I can retrieve them...? I tried a couple of recovery s/w but with no luck.
I'm using a GT I9300, 4.1.2, XXEMB6. kernel: 3.0.31-1071725.
Please help, those pics are really precious, from my own wedding and honeymoon (before I could take a backup this happened):crying:

So here is what i suggest you do.
Since your phone is working fine now, and it can connect to a pc, try using a recovery software. Try not to fill your phone storage with clumps in the mean time. Nothing is ever really deleted unless it's overwritten by new data.
Try. ht tp :/ /w ww. ea se us .c om /d at ar ec ov er yw iz ar d/ fr ee -d at a- re co ve ry -s of tw ar e. ht m
Since i am new here, the rules doesn't really allow me to post links yet. Remove the spaces in between the link i posted
It used to pull out data from accidentally formatted USB drives, but then i consider my phone an external storage device.
Good luck and let us know
Cant without backup, sorry

I tried various softwares on the phone itself but nothing worked, couldnt run these softwares on my laptop coz the phone is connected to my laptop as a portable device & not a storage device, hence it is not picked up by the software as a drive that i want to scan.
I think I have tried everything to transfer my Tab Z to a new Z2: Both are on the latest O/S.
1) I have tried to back up the old tab but when I "migrate" the data to the new, I get a failure message telling me the backup file is faulty and that I should re-do the backup
2) I have tried the Transfer app and the two devices get to the point of talking but then I get a message that they failed to pair
3) I have tried NFC but I get the same "failed to pair" message.
Am I missing something? Is there a setting I need to change on either machine?
Oh, and I don't want to root!
Cheers
Try helium for app transfer with data. For everything else, you logging into Google account should take care of it with auto sync
Got it, many thanks
Is there any way to exit Ultra-Power-Saving-Mode while locked out of my S5 using recovery mode, installing some update, etc? I have a lot of development experience with several languages and tools, but not Android.
I've been using my fingerprint for access for over a year and now I have no idea what my alternative password is... since I've never used it regularly and can't find any record of it. I usually right document such things, but apparently not this time.
Unfortunately, this last Sunday while in Ultra-Power-Saving-Mode something went wrong with my phone and now it only asks for the alternative password... which I can't recall. I've used the Android Device Manager 4 times since then to reset the lock PUK/PIK. After each time resetting it, the lock screen does show the new greeting I set via the Android Device Manager, but it still asks for the alternative password... instead of asking for the PUK/PIK that I just reset.
I am suspecting/hoping that if I can somehow get my phone out of UPSM that the lock screen will allow me to use the reset PUK/PIK to get back into my phone.
So, I am asking if you know of any app that can be installed remotely that will allow me to get my phone out of UPSM? Or, if there is any way to get it out of UPSM by rooting the phone, but installing an ADM update, etc.
Normally I would just do a factory reset because everything is synced up to my Google account. However, apparently my SD card, which was my primary storage, filled up on May 2, so everything since then has been stored on internal memory and thus will be lost if I do a factory reset. I've taken a lot of pictures and video of my 2 1/2 yr old boy and I am trying to avoid losing everything since May 2.
Thanks for any help.

Only option I can think of would be to install TWRP custom recovery and use the built in file manager to rename the UPSM app. This wouldn't work if you have an ATT or VZW model, as the bootloaders are locked down, not allowing installation of TWRP, but pretty much any other carrier model should be fine.
