Dual SIM ringtones with CM/LOS/RR/Viper/etc on Nougat - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I've tried to find the answer for my own, but looks like I'm stuck.
Both MIUI and LOS on Android Marshmallow allows me to set different ringtones per each SIM card on Kenzo - very important feature for me (I thought it's quite basic stuff really).
All the Nougat-based ROMs I've tried so far (LOS/RR/Viper/etc) lacks mentioned feature and I'm allowed to set one and only ringtone, despite which SIM card receives the call.
I've tried to use apps from google play like Dual Ringtone Setter, etc. but none of those apps works.
Do any of you know a way (or ROM based on LOS) that allows me to set different ringtones per SIM card?
Thanks in advance,
musek
P.S. I know it's not impossible since MIUI based on Nougat have this feature.

I'm pretty desperate for this feature as well. Haven't been able to find an app that does it either

[Q] Andoid phone with call recording support

Hi, i plan to develop some app, which will be recording calls, and i would like to use class MediaRecorder with parameter VOICE_CALL. I dont need this app to work on multiple phone models, i need to find just one model which is able to record calls. The best choice would be model which has "native" support of call recording and no customizations(root, custom roms, kernels) are needed.
This app has list of supported devices, does it mean that all listed devices are able to record calls with MediaRecorder?
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schass.recording.call&feature=search_result
sry, cant post links
Ty for help
Experiencie
I try many apps in the past for some my problem, and :
Auto Call Recorder: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder&feature=search_result
Call Recorder: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=polis.app.callrecorder&feature=search_result
(and others apps too, but this two are the best in my opinion)
The best option (for me) is Auto Call Recorder, so I bought that apps (the version without ads). It's a very good apps with many configurations. I recommend you look the apps al take an idea of the options. It's simple, and powerful (great combination).
i am not looking for existing application, i am trying to find some phone which is able to record phone calls using android Class MediaRecorder.
I recommend Chinese phones. That apps say in the "about us" and in the "FAQ", they use android Class MediaRecorder (not Root Requiered)
But have a problem, in brand phones (like motorola milestone 2 or samsung) only record from the speaker and not from the Call
I don't have that problem because I use Chinese Phone (Star x18i and LT18i) and work perfect the record from the Call. But in a Milestone of a friend have that problem. Also we root it and try again, so the problem continue.
Try to research that, maybe I'm wrong but maybe not. Search include the Google Play and you found in the comments many persons who say the don't work in "brands phones"

[Q] Audio profile manager with Dual-sim support

Hi folks,
I'm a happy Desire V user since July 2012. Still using the stock rom, haven't rooted or anything, but sure miss Play store & full google sync capabilities, so I'm about to root & flash my phone... (hints welcome, how to take backup of apps, sms, contacts, calendar, etc, how to safely flash, because there are so many "guides" everywhere...)
However, I started this thread to know if you guys have found a good Audio profile manager, that supports dual-sim support...
I have a work + private sim in the phone, and would like to be able to put for instance call on sim2 on silent, sms on medium, call on sim1 loud, sms on sim2 loud... assign different ringtones to the different sims (call/message, sim1/sim2), etc... all in 1 nice application. Support for profiles, so you could make a profile "week", "weekend", "holiday" for instance... We also have guard duty, so then work-sim volume should be enabled, also during night & during weekend...
Anyone found a good application for this?
Kind regards.

I'm looking for exactly the same thing as you do. But, so far without success. It may be necessary to contact profile applications developer.
Hi friends,
Don't know about good sound profile....
But you can use Dual SIM Ringer to set different ringtones for different SIM's

Call Recording Tone implemented on Android Pie

Hello everyone,
So I upgraded my phone and as a result went from Marshmallow to Pie, and was told by my call recipients that they can hear a beep (couldn't be heard before). After little research I found this: https://www.xda-developers.com/android-p-call-recording-tone-support-record-phone-calls-lawfully/ Looks like Google has done what they've promised...
The tone is a 1400Hz note that will play every fifteen seconds if the carrier enables it. It works by detecting the package name of a call recording app using the previously linked API. If any such package is detected, then the outgoing call will have the tone played to warn the other end that their call may be recorded. The tone will be automatically played depending on carrier configuration, which is determined by the SIM card.

Now I need to stop this beeping, and coulnd't think of a better place than XDA to ask for help. Any ideas?
Google Pixel 3, 181205 update, rooted, Vodafone UK, using ACR Pro to record.
P. S. The tone can only be heard by your recipient and is network dependant, like the article said. Tried EE SIM and it doesn't beep, while Vodafone does Hope this will help someone to come up with solution quicker.
OK, so a month later I can say that I was unable to find any solutions online, and only a few people reported this issue (all on Vodafone).
According to the commits, Vodafone Germany is the only carrier that this call recording tone support will be mandated (for now), as the MCC/MNN combination mentioned in one of the files matches Vodafone’s carrier identity: 26202.

What do you think, is it possible to change my MCC/MNN numbers while staying on Vodafone, so this new feature wouldn't engage?

Or maybe I could do something here? Like hiding those packages, or renaming so they wouldn't get detected?
Thanks
Call recording is a bit of a thorny issue when it comes to privacy. There are also different rules in different places, making it hard for Google to implement a standard in Android without falling foul of the law in certain jurisdictions. Android's official call recording API was removed in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, so third-party app developers have had to be creative since then. As of Android 9 Pie, it looks like Google has put a stop to it altogether.

You can still use 3rd party apps for call recording, but now carriers have an option to turn this 1400Hz tone to let other party know you're recording. Germany is two-party consent state therefore Vodafone decided to opt-in on this bloody tone worldwide even though most EU countries, including the one I'm in, doesn't require consent for recording calls unless you're a business. I believe in android community, we have overcome bigger issues
I did not expect that literally nobody else would find this beeping to be a problem... There must not be too many Vodafone customers with rooted Android Pie wanting to record calls then

Kyocera KY-01L Android-based e-paper smartphone

This device caught my eye recently (Kyocera KY-01L):
https://uncrate.com/kyocera-ky-01l-card-phone/
Points of interest:
* Android-based
* e-paper display
* ultra compact
Personally I feel Kyocera made a huge mistake by not including the Play Store, or at least including an e-Reader application. A pocket-sized e-Reader that is also my phone just sounds awesome in theory (although the 380mAh battery might prove otherwise in reality...)
Since I use Hangouts and Hangouts Dialer for all my communications, I can't really use this unless I can get gApps installed.
Does anyone have experience hacking Kyocera phones? How difficult would it be to get root, TWRP, and gApps working on this thing?
I googled that phone and found your post. Most intriguing idea, but overpriced imho. I would like to test my developer skills on that but without adb or at least apk installer its useless
Android is not fully compatible (out-of-the-box) with e-ink and screen sizes under 3", unless it's heavily modified. Which is not worth the investmet, considering the target market. And even if Android were adapted, many apps wouldn't run anyway. They wrapped a layer around it to run essentials services. Note that there is a real browser though.
KY-01L Information
So i bought one of these myself out of curiosity and here's what i've found:
ADB can be enabled from the phones settings (the option is called "switch usb debugging") once it's enabled you can sideload APK's
APK's cannot be installed on the phone itself, when doing so you get the message than unknown sources are not enabled however as kyocera have modified the security settings there is no way to enable this afaik
The apps use AOSP icons and have some normal screens present which can be accessed with an activity launcher
When using installed apps the E-ink screen switches to a high refresh rate mode at random and the only way to get it back to normal is to launch cardphonehome (the default launcher)
The phone won't connect to any UK networks (i've only tried vodaphone and EE sims in it)
Bluetooth media audio seems to be removed entirely, even when sideloading a music player
The stock keyboard uses a 9 key input for text, you can sideload something like gboard but i haven't found the option to set it as the default input method
If you intend to buy one then i would suggest looking on YAJ proxy sites like buyee as they tend to go for ~£160.
Apps i'd recommend sideloading:
Activity launcher - lets you get into hidden menus and back into the stock launcher
Stealth music player - Plays music through the phones earpiece, can also enable the earpiece for use with audio from other apps
i'd also suggest lowering the DPI as some apps may be cramped
Dialer codes
*#*#4636#*#* - Android Testing menu
*#*#3878#*#* - Qualcomm FTM menu
*#*#225#*#* - Calendar info
Update: i've noticed the soc that CPUZ is reporting conflicts what others have said, ADB's CPU info command reports it as a wear 2100
I'm really curious if/how an ebook reading app would work on this. Did you try that out?
I'm considering buying a used one to try out as an ultra portable ebook reader.

I tried the kindle app, Whenever it's opened it spams an error saying something about not being able to download image files for a few minutes, after that it works fine.
Phone density is set to 210 and kindle text size is on default

Amazing. Thank you so much Harry, this is great. I'm going to give my experiment a go!
any idea how to make it connect to EU 3g/4g ?
I have the Light Phone 2 which is very similar. I was able to root it and sideload apps on it. Harry is it possible to send over APKs from your Kyocera Card phone so I can test them on the light phone?

You can try, i used apkextractor to extract them but they won't install on another device and trying to install them on the card phone itself gives an error saying the package is corrupt

Hi
First of all, I appreciate the above information where I could find customizing about KY-01L. I was able to install Gmail, Chrome, Line lite, Gboard, and other utilities into my KY-01L!
To be honest, it was quite a stressful process to load apk`s and configure them a number of times.
The first step, I installed the Square Home launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.squarehome2&hl=en&gl=us) and the Quickshortcut maker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut&hl=en&gl=us) that I am able to configure 10 times easier (Maybe some similar types of the app should work). the default setting of KY-01L is not able to configure app by the screen that is how it is designed by Kyocera.
After setting those 2 apps, I can configure launcher/shortcut in the home menu.
My KY-01L is not stable yet... still need to minor adjustments of configuration but it works what I was expected.

Hi there,
Can you explain how you managed to connect it to the network? The one I have is SIM unlocked, I can see available networks but it won't connect. The X.... symbol is displayed in the status bar ("Out of service area") but I am quite sure that the frequencies match.

Hi
I am using NTT Docomo carrier (in Japan) which is the preferred carrier for the KY-01L. KY-01L has limited bandwidth using LTE bands of 2.0GHz and 800MHz only. You would better check with your SIM carrier that uses those bandwidths or not.

Thanks for replying!
Well, it seems that my carrier doesn't offer the exact same frequencies. 3G is at 2100 MHz (B1) and LTE is at 2100 MHz (B1) and 1800 MHz (B3).
Too limited, indeed. I've been using Docomo and SoftBank and AU phones for over fifteen years now and they all worked but not this one

Hi I just ordered my KY-01L off ebay, and looking forward to doing what you're doing!
My question is - after you installed all these things (Square Home Launcher, Quick shortcut maker, Gmail, Chrome, Line lite, Gboard and other utilities), does the battery drain faster even when idle? If so, how much faster vs the vanilla version.
And what other utilities were you able to install on the KY-01L? Music player? Kindle? Youtube? Just curious to see what works...
Lastly, was the Square Home Launcher the only launcher that works? Or there were others that work but this is your preference.
Thanks!

Question Nokia X10 (X20) Android 13 chances of new ROM/ some-any ways to override settings/ "jail-break"???

In short : X10, UK, Android 13 - thanks, no thanks!
0 actual improvements as per discussed to some degree on Nokia "support forum".
Silly bloatware "features" added, but nothing what would be useful.
Have tried 50 apps of different kinds, enabling permissions (+ "developer mode"), yet still haven't found any that would record other person's voice, even thus is being transmitted via speaker or loudspeaker (heard).
Turns out down to legality issue, where's google has decided to undertake... 4'th party "responsibility, (3'rd would be Nokia), (1'st would be myself) and 2'nd party in it is the person who is to be it warned or not being recorded. Utter nonsense!
Looks like I cannot even downgrade back to neither Android 12 or 11 and custom ROM is the only option without any guarantees it'll work...
Deal breaker, and if I'll fail to find a fix or "jail-break this "feature"" will mean me binning my X10 for the older phone WITHOUT restrictions for recording, as google got scared of legality in CONTROLLING features and abilities of what it deemed as "their business" in EU and UK.
Turns out the back-up I've created is locked too- can not access it to upload for someone to have a play on virtual machine.
Deleted disabled most of google "feature" apps- still absolute the same my phone, but NOT mine, as OS is so great, it takes care of everything, including any chance to change permisions or the way it is set up.
Disappointed is understatement.
If anyone has ANY ideas how to fix this problem- I'd love to hear or if anyone would find a working bootloader for me to upload back up files- I'd love ANY suggestions,
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there's a Magisk module that helps you with that problem. Requires you to unlock your phone's bootloader, though, which requires you to wipe your data on the phone.
Right (wrong so far)
